Defect SummaryThe offset toe adjusting pin can fracture under conditions such as torsional loads, flexing motion, impact loads, and overtorquing.
Consequence SummaryThis can result in loss of vehicle steering control andan accident.
Corrective SummaryDana will pay for replacement and labor costs of the adjustment pin without charge to the installing facility and the vehicle owner. these pins should be replaced by a ford original equipment pin assembly. owner or installer inquiries concerning this recall campaign should contact dana service center at 1-800-248-9606.

 The consumer noticed fuel leakage from the tank. the dealer diagnosed a hole in the tank. the tank had leaked again. the consumer contacted the manufacturer who advised her that the v.i.n. was not included in the related recall 92v117000. ts after the purchase of the vehicle, a suspension bar was needed, and within the first year, the ignition switch was replaced. the consumer was advised to keep the fuel at half full. scc

 Brakes go all the way to the floor-loud engine noise. tt both rear michelin tires, p175/70r13, dot b3f253ax102 showed signs of abnormal wear. warped discs, drums and shoes found glazed, brakes squeal and cause steering wheel to shake, brakes do not operate properly under emergency braking situations. loud knocking sound in engine upon cold start ups, dealer replaced timing belt, however on both occasions same noise was heard after repairs. an improperly installed 1/4 inch hex head screw holding the cosmetic cover to the lower steering column caused buzzing sounds. bearing failure. parking brake cable stretched. *slc

 Part on left rear axle missing causing alignment problems which wore out tires.

 Problem first noticed on 10/16/99 while tires were being changed although it is unknown how long rear springs have been broken. mechanic advised that his shop had replaced rear springs on at least seven other escorts. i am the original owner of the vehicle. *ak

 Both rear axle leaf springs broken. took car in for brakes to be serviced and brake mechanic noticed that both springs were broken. i had to replace rear tires because they were cupped badly in the spring of 1999 at which time tire center mechanic said problem due to the balance of the tires. brake mechanic said it was probably the broken springs. tires are starting to cup again. estmate cost to repair at $500.00 per adams tire center

 Rear springs, i run a repair facility and almost every 90,s ford escort we see has broken rear spings, this seems to be a very common problem and i believe it warrants a recall of some sort to find out why so many break the rear springs in half, i do not own one of these cars and i would not buy one for this reason, please look into it for the saftey of all those who drive one. *mjs
