How can a company as ford claim to be an honest american car company...they should be stripped of their title of american and given their own identity of corporate cause they obviously do not care about the safety or their own integrity with the united states the people and we the people are just dollar signs to them. i have two fords and lets just say i should have learned after my second found on the road dead vehicle to not have been suckered into buying the american made ford again. i own a 2000 ford excursion and have had four spark plugs blown in the last two months...two in the last week. my truck barely hit 143,000....work trucks, dependable family vehicles...not so much. my truck has been taken care of immaculantly since 2000 and many who are not familiar with body details mistake it for the newer versions. this is a common problem that has been in existence since the truck came out...so much a problem ford came out with a special repair kit for it that will only be warranteed if you go to ford to fix it...sounds like a racket to me. a racket the government has looked into and approved. i have a family and am trying to get through this recession but seem to be going bankrupt not on gas prices from overseas or inflation but from repairs for an american, excuse me corporate american made vehicle that has taken almost every pint of blood my family has collectively. after a decade of continued complaints ford and the safety agency does nothing...my truck sits in my drive way because i choose to buy school clothes for my children and groceries vs. repairing it again. beyond disgusted on behalf of the american ford owners...who have walked in my shoes. after so many complaints how can the government and consumer affairs allow this corporate company not be held accountable? *tr

While driving the vehicle made a loud bang and smoke began coming out of hood. once we got the engine turned off and the emergency was over we discovered the spark plug had blown up. when it blew up the head became stripped and we had to have a plug installed into the defective head and replace the coil. i have since found out this is a very common problem with ford excursions

The power door lock electric motors freeze up and do not operate with the electric switch. the frozen power door lock does not allow the door to be opened properly and quickly in an event of an emergency. the manual door lock release knob must be utilized in order to unlock the doors. this safety issue affects all four doors of the vehicle. this is not an isolated safety hazard, we currently have 2 in our fleet and all the power door locks dont operate safely or properly. we have had other ford excursions which all were affected with the defective power door locks. the front door manual release knob is flush with the door panel which makes it even more difficult to attempt to escape from the vehicle in an event of an emergency.

2000ford excursion 7.3 l diesel no start when key turned. originally told it was a pats issue and needed new keys. problem was intermittent then was continuous. all lights on dash came on but the starter would not turn over. was a starter solonoid that was fried.

Windshield wipers running in intermittent mode. started to smell an electrical burning smell in the interior cabin. windshield wipers started to move very slowly. i tried to turn wipers to on-slow and on-fast mode and they worked erractically. i pulled off road and stopped vehicle and smoke was pooring out of drivers side on outside of windshield where wiper motor is located. i ran for my fire exstingusher but did not have to use it. wipers are not functioning at this time. i have not replaced any parts at this time and i am filling a complaint. i see there is a nhtsa campaign id# 01v258000 that i believe involves my vehicle. i called ford motor company and they noted my concerns and said there was no recall on my vehicle at this time.

I purchased a 2000 ford excursion last month from private seller. after fixing all of the door lock actuators ( which is apparently is yet another non-recalled problem) affecting most of these ford vehicles, i discovered that the former owner forgot to tell me the gem unit had been swapped out for one found apparently in a salvage yard. the gem controls 4x4 function, and a ford tech tells me, it appears this one came from a 4x2 vehicle. the plot thickens. this integral electrical component of a formerly $45,000 vehicle has been declared obsolete by fo mo co. . it cannot be found. there are none available...anywhere. no after market company has them either. this vehicle is virtually worthless to me.. i live in colorado and must have a 4x4. i thought parts for vehicles had to be available for 20 years. ford customer service hirelings have been totally worthless. we're sorry, there is nothing we can do.

2000 ford excursion 7.3l diesel 4x4 we've experienced intermittent failure of the generic electronic module that affects electrical safety components of the vehicle while raining heavily. the safety components affected are windshield wipers and lights on our vehicle- water leaking through the windshield was blamed by the dealer and a faulty gem was replaced to the tune of about $755. *tr

While driving down a steep grade, engine cut out and set a ses code. had a hard time getting the suv to stop and almost lost control of vehicle, but due to the slow nature of driving i kept it under control with 8 occupants in suv. once stopped, i got out code reader and found out that the cps (cam position sensor) had failed. i had a spare in the suv and replaced it. contacted ford main office and they have known it to be a problem with the diesels and nothing is being done to get a recall or replacement part to fix cps problem. *jb

I purchased my 2000 ford excurion in summer 2003. the interior lights have been repaired several times times for staying on randomly. the backup beeper has never worked and when i tried to have both items repaired under the $2000 extended warranty i bought they told me it was not covered. i also have seen the records for this vehicle from the previous owner (that the dealership accidentally sent me) and the vehicle had been in for the same problems as i have before i ever purchased it and that was not disclosed. the paint in the winter of 2003-2004 started peeling off of the area bove the windshield and the roof of my vehicle. i took it to the dealer and they told me there was nothing they could do because it had been repainted. i took it to a body shop and they told me that the paint lines show that the vehicle was never repainted and that they have seen several ford vehicles with this problem, and ford is very relucatant to help people in thi situation.. my husband now has a ford truck too which he purchased used, and has the same interior light problems i have. the last time i contacted the dealer to have the ford representative contact me, i never even received a phone call from the service manager or ford. they ignore my contact and calls, especially randy in the service dapartment. the original complaint i made to them was 2 1/2 years ago and they have done nothing to help me or resolve my problem. *nm

At 76000 miles the spark plug blew out of my v10 excursion. the excursion is a 2000 model year and in very good condition. the plugs have never been changed since new. ford will not fix it as it is out of warranty and the warranty company, (heritage insurance) will not cover it as they say it is a defect with the design of the head and plugs from ford. they say there is not enough threads in the head design. this seems to be echoed on the internet in many forums and other articles. appearently ford knows about this and still does nothing, except chage their customers thousands to fix the problem. furthermore the fix of replacing the head is not a permenant solution.*ak

Recently purchased a 2000 ford excursion. blew spark plug right out of head. took back to dealer where i purchased it. they put in a heil coil. 5 months later same thing happened only different spark plug. took to ford. told it was going to cost me 3500.00 to replace new head. did some research online, this is a very common problem with 1996-present ford trucks and even ford mustangs. ford is refusing to acknowledge the problem. meantime everyone who it happens to usually ends up shelling out $3000.00 plus.*ak

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - FUSES AND CIRCUIT BREAKERS
07/28/2001203/01/2000
1st failure: pulling out of my driveway and noticed that my security system theft light was blinking. this shouldn't be blinking while i am driving. all of a sudden i realized that i had no power when i pressed on the gas pedal. then noticed that all gauges had failed. the engine continued to run but with no power to drive. turned vehicle off and would not start again. towed into covert ford and their explanation was a blown fuse that controls the pcm (power control module). this affected the gas pedal because it is controlled by a chip instead of a cable. covert ford replaced fuse, checked out all wiring harnesses and could not find additional problems. returned vehicle to me. 2nd failure: 2-1/2 weeks after 1st failure i was driving down the road and had turned off the overdrive at the end of the gear shifter. when i turned the overdrive back on i immediately heard a pop from the fuse box and noticed that my gauges had failed and the theft light was blinking. i continued to coast until i found a fairly safe area to pull off. because i was going downhill at the time of failure i was able to get off the road. this vehicle was towed into covert ford and is still with them. i am concerned that this is an intermittent electrical problem and that it will never be located. this is very dangerous because there is no prior warning signals. all of a sudden your engine is still running, but provides no power to the vehicle. the reason that i am reporting this is that there is a service bulletin addressing a similar problem. service bulletin # 14044, seq # 136, date: 0004, nhtsa # sb613701 makes reference to a #19 blown fuse. *ak

Driving approx. 40 mph, heard a pop and suddenly vehicle lost all but minimal power. pulled over, opened hood and noticed a spark plug dangling outside the cylinder head. took to local ford, said oh, yes it happens all the time....but its not a recall. vehicle has 82k miles, off warranty, last spark plug change 9k miles ago. they wanted 5k to fix it. went to another ford service, same story, same price. called local mechanic friend, oh yeah happens all the time with that vehicle. all you have to do is carefully tap a slightly larger hole and insert appropriate spark plug ...$400. if everyone who repairs these vehicles is aware of what must be a production defect, why are there not more reports and a recall? how can i best identify others similarly affected and make ford, nhtsa or other appropriate agencies aware of the problem? *nm

My vehicle, a 2000 ford excursion limited, v-10 gasoline engine, was parked in my driveway on 3/3/07, locked and everything turned off and had been there for quite a while, when i heard a loud explosion and i ran outside to find the vehicle on fire under the hood on the driver's side. the hood release did not work and i tried to put out the fire with a water hose. when the fire department came, we pried the hood open and extenquished the fire. but everything was burned and the vehicle is a total loss. *jb

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - WIRING - FRONT UNDERHOOD
01/11/20071
2000 ford excursion, cruise control recall performed in dec, 2006. on 11 jan ,2007 smoke coming from engine compartment. unplugged brake switch at master cylinder, connector was plastic and had brake fluid dripping from it. pulled 20 amp fuse from fuse panel, smoke stopped. the main concern is that ford performed recall(installed fuse jumper) but did not replace switch, when brake fluid leaked through switch, fusible link modification failed to protect electrical system. i am concerned that others that have had this recall performed are still in danger. this is not my vehicle, it is my cousins. he is not sure if he will file a complaint or not so i thought i needed to. i am a witness to the whole incident and can provide more info and pictures if needed. *jb

My 2000 ford excursion caught fire in my driveway last night and burned. the entire engine compartment was in full flames when my daughter heard the alarm going off. the fire department says the fire started under the hood on the driver's side. it burned the entire front half of the vehicle before we got it put out. i don't know what started the fire but it was about 45 minutes after we had come home from having dinner at a local restaurant here in boerne. there was no previous warning that would have pointed to any potential fire. again, the fire department suspects the fire started on the driver's side underneath the hood based upon burn patterns. i have heard this is the same vicinity that other ford fires that have something to do with the cruise control have started. *jb

Electrical harness (which includes the cruise control, horn, etc) caught fire and burned.we were able to replace the burned out parts. i went back recently to the local ford dealer to ask if it was related to the recall and they said that excursions were not part of the recall and it was just coincidence. i am now concerned that it will catch fire again.

The past six weeks my service engine soon light came on. after checking engine fluids and changing fuel filter the light would go out. i have also noticed my headlights going dim quite frequently. after third occurence, i took my vehicle to independent service shop. after checking for two days, they determined that the main wiring harness has again been melted through. this was reported to you on 2-17-2004 when the first fire was discovered. confirmation number is 10081075. you can contact this service shop. they have replaced this part on many fords. they had one vehicle which became fully engulfed in flames while driving down the road. does someone have to die before ford is required to recall this. the wiring harness is placed where engine fluids frequently drip on wiring harness and causes it to melt and eventually starting on fire. i have another ford with same engine. i would like this fixed before it costs me another $2500 for that vehicle. the repair shop is valley diesel injection located in neenah, wi . please call them with questions. ford dealers will not truthfully state they have a problem. if there is not a problem why are the wiring harnesses not available. last time it was a national back order.*ak

Vehicle fire. 2000 ford excursion. in the same wire/switch as the recalled vehicles. i parked in a mall parking lot, and prepared to wait a few minutes until the store opened. i saw puffs of smoke from under the driver's side of the hood. i got out and cautiously lifted the hood. the wiring nearest the driver's side burst into flames. i closed the hood to limit airflow and a bystander called 911. the fire truck came and put out the fire. arrangements were made to tow the car to a ford dealership nearby. the repair shop replaced the wiring and said that it was not covered under the recall because it did not have a constant current through it. i have the burned parts. *nm

While driving my check engine light came on. after checking engine fluids and verifying everything was okay. the engine started losing power. we called the local dealer and they weren't able to get it in to check, so we trailered it to a neenah repair shop. after checking various things he indicated there was a fire in the wiring harness of this vehicle. i have retained the parts which the ford dealer wanted to have. this was my third ford vehicle which started on fire. i've had an ltd that was totaled while parked in my driveway. a ford conversion van which the auxiliary power started the interior on fire while i was driving it and this ford excursion. i also have a 2002 f350 which has had every problem that my excursion has had. both these vehicles have the same motor. both vehicles are on the third alternator. there is a problem in the electrical system of these ford vehicles. the repair costs for the excursion have exceeded $2500.00. *ak
