I own a 2000 for expedition and have had nothing but expensive problems. first the caps on the spark plugs go bad everytime it gets washed or goes through puddles on the road. then when it rains water seeps into some control box and causes the radio and air to run when the vehicle is turned off and the key removed, it will even go as far as engaging the anti theft so it won't start. i have even lost control of the windshield wipers while driving, the rain drips on my feet and soaks the floor mat even if it just sitting. the latest issue is with an ejected spark plug which fortunately did not start a fire just leaving me stranded twice in one week. i am told there is no good fix for this problem and i am getting estimates as high as $3500. most say that this vehicle has one design flaw after another and that ford only gives one excuse after another. so many people seem to have the same exact problems i can't help but to think the fault lies with ford. so many other things have gone wrong with it to fix them all would be replacing every part, wire, and device on it. i think it's just a lemon designed to create revenue. surely some must have the power to investigate on behalf of the consumer. *tr

I have a 2000 ford expedition with the triton v-8, 5.4 liter engine that had a spark plug pop out of the head while i was driving, destroying the fuel injector. according to my ford dealer, this is a common issue. i have never heard of this before and can't really see how you can use the word common with a spark plug ejecting itself, but oh well. anyway, ford does not have any kind of warranty on this. how can this be?? a spark plug ejecting can lead to the very real possibility of fuel coming out of the cylinder and igniting. this seems pretty dangerous to me. the dealer will have to have the spark plug port re-threaded and a new injector put in place for a total of 590 dollars. upon doing some research, this is a very common problem with ford. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford expedition. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle began to vibrate and the abs indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. immediately following, the odometer, heat, and radio became inoperable and the vehicle began idling loudly. upon entering her driveway, the vehicle stalled. the brake pedal was depressed, but there was no reaction. the contact rear ended another vehicle in the driveway. the vehicle did not sustain any damages; however, the vehicle that was rear ended sustained damage to the rear bumper. there were no injuries or a police report. the vehicle was towed to a local repair shop and the mechanic stated that water entered through the windshield and drained into the fuse box, which damaged the g.e.m module. the dealer was not notified. the manufacturer stated that they were not liable for the repairs. the current and failure mileages were 120,000.

I have a 2000 ford expedition with the triton 5.4 litre v8 engine. this vehicle has a little over 100,000 miles and is used for personal transportation only. today we had a spark plug blow out on the vehicle and had to have it towed to the local ford dealership. the mechanic at the dealership quoted me a price of over $700 to have a temporary fix of a heli coil placed into the spark plug hole to replace the stripped threads caused by the blowout and to have the coil replaced. he mentioned that this temporary fix is not something that he can guarantee will work so he also offered me a $5000 permanent fix of having the entire engine block replaced. unfortunately, due to my financial situation, i cannot afford the permanent fix and am having to opt for/gamble with the temporary fix attempt. according to the mechanic and research information i found on the internet, this is a common occurrence problem. we are in the process of having the mechanic at the ford dealership attempt the $700 temporary repair. with the fact that this is a known issue to ford and consumer affairs, this issue should be part of a recall from ford motor company. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford expedition. the contact stated that the vehicle would sporadically stall. the dealer stated that the coil pack located near the air compressor, could develop moisture, which would cause the coil springs to fail and the vehicle to stall. secondly, the technician stated that in rainy conditions, condensation under the hood could cause the coil springs to fail spontaneously. as a result, the risk of a crash is increased. three coil springs need to be replaced at the cost of $500. the manufacturer did not assist. the failure and current mileages were 120,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford expedition. a week after the vehicle was tuned up, the contact heard a loud pop while driving 20 mph. she drove home and had the vehicle towed to a dealer. the dealer stated that the spark plug burst out of the second cylinder in the engine. approximately one year later, in june of 2008, the contact's husband heard a loud pop again while driving. he pulled over and noticed that the spark plug was loose and detached from the fifth cylinder. the dealer stated that it was a manufacturer defect and due to the failure, the entire engine head would have to be replaced to decrease the likelihood of the issue recurring. the current mileage was approximately 114,000 and failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 ford expedition. the contact stated that the vehicle has an exhaust leak, the electrical odometer flickers on and off, and there is rust at the bottom of every door on the vehicle. also, the fuel gauge does not work and the vehicle would stall while driving 50 mph. the dealer stated that the contact would be liable for 50% of the repair costs, and the other 50% would be covered under warranty. the failure mileage was 109,000 and the current mileage was 109,150, which was difficult to determine due to the failed odometer.

Ford has recognized a loss-of-power problem with its expedition and f-150 models in the 2000-02 model years with the 5.4 l. engine. simply put, in ambient temperatures over 100 degrees f, the engine computer will alter timing (in a misguided attempt to reduce engine temperature) which radically reduces engine power. ford has a purported fix under its tech bulletin no. 02-12-3, dated 06/24/02, authorizing reprogramming of the computer and installation of some body plugs. problem is that the problem remains after the tech bulletin work is performed. on my 2000 expedition, i continue to experience power loss of roughly 30% in stop/go driving and the hot summer temperatures in the phoenix area. this poses an extreme risk in city traffic, such as when you attempt to clear an intersection or avoid an accident. i've had several close calls this summer, post-fix, when temperatures hover around 100 degrees--i hit the gas, and barely move. *nm

We have a 2000 ford expedition that blew out a spark plug about 6 months ago and this weekend it blew out another spark plug. the first time it happened i was driving to town and my truck started to run rough and sounded awful. this time my son happened to be driving it and it did the same thing. we had to get it towed back home plus have someone to fix it. the garage that fixed it used a helicoil repair kit. i guess that they will do the same thing this time. i sure am disappointed in the fact that it keeps costing me money to fix. i think that ford needs to recall the suv. *tr

I have a 2000 4.6 ford expedition with approx 150,000 miles on it. i drove it from los angeles to san francisco. when i arrived in san francisco i was greeted by a loud pop and an accompanying rattle and sputter. the front driver side spark plug had blown out and broke off the ignition coil. the spark plug stripped the threading of the aluminum heads. i took it to a ford dealership in san francisco and they blamed faulty installation of the spark plug. in researching the problem i have found that many others have had this similar problem not specific to changed spark plugs. i have also learned that some class actions suits have been filed against ford in regards to this problem but have not been successful. i am out a couple of thousand dollars and an extended stay in san francisco due to this problem that i am learning what is happening far to common regardless of the age or the make of a ford product. i am thankful this did not occur in a desolate or dangerous area but i am extremely upset in what seem apparent to me and many others as a factory default. *tr

On 05-04-06, was driving 35 mph down a city street during normal driving conditions when there was a loud explosion, then my 2000 expedition began to sound as if it was sputtering or missing. wife screamed, kids started crying, i swerved as i thought initially it was either an explosion or engine blowing up coming through the floor board / firewall. the expedition was then slowly driven to the house (was only a few blocks away luckily) and called a local mechanic to make an appointment to bring in vehicle for inspection and repair. found it was #7 spark plug blown out of the head, coil was damaged etc. the mechanic then repaired the engine for me and i got it back after a week. the repairs included the top half of the engine being disassembled, the head taken to a machine shop and being repaired, then the remainder of the engine being cleaned up and reassembled. also had to have the coil and coil mount replaced etc. (not a mechanic, there is an entire list if items ordered for replacement during this period of time) and just received the suv back today. my wife is now totally scared to drive the expedition as she is now weary of the quality of the engine since we have now found that spark plug(s) flying out of ford engines are a common thing. she has had nightmares of the incident and has been afraid to drive due to the explosion and how violent the entire ordeal was. *nm

I do not know if this is the place to voice this complaint, but since i have tried contacting ford via email with no response, i did not know exactly where else to turn. we have a 2000 expedition. the timing chains went out and we replaced them. the vehicle was driving just fine before we replaced them--just noisy. so we had them replaced. we received the truck back on the 12th of october and drove it approximately 20 miles (that's being generous). it was running fine then sounded like you hit a rock. the engine blew. lucky for us that it was on a side road and not on 465 which we drive every day. can you imagine what could have happened at 55+ miles per hour in rush hour traffic? i believe that this is a defect in the engine design because i have since learned that it happens alot in these engines. i feel that replacing the timing chain should not constitute replacing the engine. since it has happened in ford dealerships as well, i believe that ford is aware that this is a problem and has chosen to ignore it. a four year old engine should not give out because the timing chains have been replaced. i have been in contact with customer service at ford and with a dealership in our area--speaking to them is how i found out that this has happened in dealerships also. please advise me on where to go from here if i have contacted the wrong place. i have filed a complaint with the attorney general's office in indiana also.

Owned the car for ten months. during this period, the vehicle repeatly looses power without notice. lately this has become a safety problem. while driving south on i-75 and the intersection i-475 (hauling travel trailer) the truck lost power up a slight incline. truck downshifted 2 gears and engine shot to 4500rpm, while the speed dropped from 65 to 40mph in less than 100 yards. 18 wheelers swerved to avoid hitting us from the rear of the car. in the past ten months the car also exhibits other anomolies, such as seats and mirrors move and loose their position without command from the remotes. once this happens, computer must be reset. other anomolies that happen in conjunction with the mirrors and seats are the reverse sensors fail to work properly, and the alarm activates. vehicle has been turned over to the dealer no less than 8 times without success in finding the problem.... help. *ak

The events leading up to the failure included startup of the vehicle and on the second occurrance merely driving the vehicle - a 2000 ford expedition eddie bauer 5.4 ltr triton v8 with 90000 miles. the failure was of 2 separate spark plugs being blown from the cylinder head (both on the drivers side) a total of 3 times. the consequences was having the vehicle towed to a repair shop. the most recent repair was a recurrance of the same blown plug which happened in 2005. to correct the issues, the spark plugs were replaced and reinserted with repair kits to hopefully prevent future blowouts. additional consequences are that i no longer trust ford or my vehicles reliability. in researching this issue online, this is not a rare occurance and there have been vehicle fires where the spark plug has ruptured the fuel rail which sits directly above the spark plug holes. consumeraffairs.com has this report: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2007/03/ford_spark_plug_fire.html. do we need to wait until some actually dies before action will be taken to have ford do the right thing and repair this obvious defect?
