Electrical: windshield leaking for a few years. first a small leak and did not think much about it. now it seems to be greater leaks into the car when it rains- leading to electrical issues such as dash lights go out, blower stays on, fuel gauge does not read right. radio sometimes will not work right and the lights go out. fuel tank: issues from day one - floats did not work right, now gauge does not read right, one point i could not fill the car - mechanic did something to try and correct it. hood/windshield leak: must be careful not to go to an automatic car wash. water into the engine area. must park at a certain angle during the rain. coil packs go out.

I have a 2001 ford expedition with approximately 130k miles. the spark plug in cylinder 4 blew out yesterday while my wife was driving down the higway. we discovered the cylinder head threads have been blown out also. i am unable to replace the spark plug without repair to the head.

Ford 2001 expedition has a blown spark plug. the engine could have caught on fire while i drove the truck with the vapors pouring out of the plug spot (which flew out of the engine on to the road some where behind me). ford knows this is an engine defect. why are we not having a recall for this problem

Blown out spark plug from 2001 ford expedition triton 4.6l engine during operation on a public road. the second spark plug on the passenger side blew out of the engine while it was being driven on the road. this made a loud bang sound as if a tire blew out. the loud sound continued like a loud exhaust leak and gasoline vapors were immediately present in the passenger compartment. the driver shut off the engine to prevent an engine fire after attempting to safely park on the side of the road while avoiding moving traffic. this required aggressive maneuvering to avoid moving traffic. the car is now awaiting repairs, which is est. at >$3,000. the mechanic reported that this is a very common problem on ford vehicles with the triton engine. i have never before seen a spark plug blown out of the socket like this. the plugs were replaced once at about 50k miles. the engine has about 110k miles today. *tr

On 02/13/10 at approximately 10:30 a.m., i was driving my 2001 ford expedition with the 5.4 liter v-8 down us highway 151 north of fond du lac, wisconsin. the throttle/accelerator stuck and the expedition accelerated to over 60 miles per hour. i applied the brakes to slow down to avoid an accident. the engine continued to race and the back tires spun on the ice and the front tires stopped as i came to a stop upon the ice. i turned the ignition off. after a few minutes, i started the 5.4 liter engine again. the engine raced again with rpms reaching over 5000 rpms. i quickly turned off the engine ignition again and opened the hood and checked for obstructions. no apparent obstructions. after a few moments, i started the engine again and the engine idled down to normal rpm. i had an adult passenger in the vehicle that witnessed the throttle/accelerator stick.*tr

While driving back from new hampshire to virginia, my 2001 expedition popped a plug from its engine. i had to have it towed 200 miles because the smell of fuel it was late friday and there was nothing i could do until monday. i called the customer service line in dearborn, mi. i was told by the female operator (charlotte) to bring my vehicle to bowditch ford and to have them run a diagnostics test. my vehicle went off to the shop via flatbed as to not cause any further damage. i later received a call from the service manager telling me that it would cost $92.50, i ok'ed it because over the weekend i did some research on the triton engine and found that this was a common problem. in the meantime i was still in contact with ford and had even talked to an operator named ralph. i explained to him that i did some research and found that this had happened to nearly 800,000 vehicles and some resulting in death. dearborn, mi said they would keep in touch with the dealership and would contact me thursday. thursday morning came and i was contacted by dearborn again. they told me that there was nothing they could do that i would have to pay for the damages myself. i was also told by dearborn to ask the dealership, who receives certain allocated funds each year for repairs just like this. the dealership refused assistance. after all was done i was charged for an ecsd diagnose (92.50); 2 spark plugs (6.81); 1 coil assembly ignition (103.69); fuel ingestion cleaner (6.47) another vehicle key ? (30.00); misc drivability charge (92.50); pcm reprogramming the computer? (92.50); clean the throttle body (78.75); clean the injectors? (65.00). they also fixed a speed control deactivation device of which was under recall. as a disabled veteran that was half my check for the month. the dealership had my vehicle for 3 days. 1st day, checked engine and found the number 1 and 4 plugs were screwed up and that the injectors were backwards. *jb

I am the owner of a 2001 ford expediton, recently (august 22,2005) i experienced a spark plug blow-out in this vehicle.i was concerned about the cost of repair for this type of problem, and the danger associated with this problem. in a recent article it was stated that if this plug were to pop out it could in fact puncture a nearby fuel line and ignite in fire or cause an explosion so i searched the internet(www.forddefects.com) for some answers. there, i found out that this has been an ongoing problem with ford that they have neglected to acknowledge. i, along with many other frustrated consumers are asking that a recall be initiated by the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa)

I bought my 2001 ford expedition brand new. since then i have had numerous times when my truck has surged. it has happened while waiting at an intersection with my foot on the brake. the truck surges as if someone has stepped on the accelerator. even the radio get louder. luckily i have always had my foot on the brake firmly. it has even happened while driving. all of a sudden the truck accelerates without my changing pressure on the gas pedal. thankfully i have never had an accident. it is very nerve racking and dangerous. i am very nervous having my children in the vehicle. i have taken my truck to the dealership and they have said that there is nothing wrong with it. please investigate this issue since there is a great possibility of accidents. *nm

2001 ford expedition fuel system indicator problem. with vehicle tank capacity at 1/4 full and when parked on an incline (engine down) vehicle has repetitive ignition problems due to insufficient fuel pick up. service technicians from ford dealership indicate they are aware of such, but can only recommend always keeping tank at >1/2 full and they will not/can not repair deficiency. this practice isn't always practical. further research from your website indicates this is a wide spread problem according to nhtsa item #10010731. isn't this enough for a recall campaign?*ak

After 3 service visits, i still have a fueling problem with my 2001 ford expedition. i demonstrate the problem to a ford representative. as demonstrated, we started filling the fuel tank. after 9.4 gallons, the nozzle automatically clicked off, we continued to fuel the tank over the next 10 15 minutes, with near continuous clicking off of the nozzle. at about 15 gallons, the ford rep was uncomfortable with further fueling. i continued to 18.6 gallons, whereupon the fuel finally rose to the filler neck and even spilled over a bit. i have found this is the only way to completely fill the tank. the ford rep explained to me, very courteously, that once the nozzle clicks off a couple of times, the tank is considered full by ford measures. the problem with this is that by that measure, i am reducing my fuel capacity by about 9 gallons, and at highway mileage of 20 mpg, reducing my cruising range by 180 miles. it is unacceptable to tell me i have to refuel my expedition 180 miles shy of where i should be able to cruise and refuel. this is my fourth ford auto in 4 years. i have never had this problem before. i am requesting that ford remove the idiotically designed fuel tank in my expedition, and replace it with a regular idiot-proof fuel tank. fueling a car should not be rocket science.*ak

I have owned this vehicle for only 3 months and bought it from a dealer with low miles. twice now in that three months i have been completly stopped with foot on brake and the vehicle lurched forward as if it had been hit from behind. today in heavy freeway traffic it did the same. almost hitting the car in front of me. i have called ford and talked to the dealership and they say they have never heard of this. i just had it in and it passed with flying colors. i did count 19 complaints on your site with the same issue. does someone have to die first?*ak
