Vehicle was havin jerkin issues and check engine light was on, took to shop and it was about to blow out the spark plug, i was lucky and caught it and got it replaced but i have done research and seen that many others haven't been and that this is an ongoing issue. my next problem was acceleration, the gas pedal accelerated and cause me to crash into another vehicle and the vehicle fled the scene, there was no major injuries but 4 kids were in the vehicle and are now scared to even ride with me. mental stress is a major injury in my concern cause it hurts my heart to know my own children are scared that i wont protect them. my third problem is that just yesterday we parked on the side of the side of the road and the vehicle died and wont start, talked to mechanics and they say 01 fords have this problem, we now have a broke down vehicle and not too sure what the defect has caused more problems to be worse. due to the defect now the starter solenoid is out and we are unsure if possibly even the fuel pump. ford knows of all these complaints from other owners and has done nothing. just in my family i have 2 others that have the same vehicle and have had the same problems, why is it that ford is not doing anything about these defects that can cause major accidents and injuries??? *tr

On 02/13/10 at approximately 10:30 a.m., i was driving my 2001 ford expedition with the 5.4 liter v-8 down us highway 151 north of fond du lac, wisconsin. the throttle/accelerator stuck and the expedition accelerated to over 60 miles per hour. i applied the brakes to slow down to avoid an accident. the engine continued to race and the back tires spun on the ice and the front tires stopped as i came to a stop upon the ice. i turned the ignition off. after a few minutes, i started the 5.4 liter engine again. the engine raced again with rpms reaching over 5000 rpms. i quickly turned off the engine ignition again and opened the hood and checked for obstructions. no apparent obstructions. after a few moments, i started the engine again and the engine idled down to normal rpm. i had an adult passenger in the vehicle that witnessed the throttle/accelerator stick.*tr

My 2001 ford expedition recently suffered a total loss engine fire -- according to the fire department's investigation, it was likely caused by a cruise control problem/malfunction that was due to faulty manufacturing by the ford motor company. the vehicle was turned-off and parked in the parking lot at my office at eglin air force base, florida when the fire started. after the fire, i learned that there was a recall for my ford truck because of this exact problem -- as a 20-year active duty military veteran, i was never notified by ford about this potential hazard. i thank god that this didn't occur in my garage where the truck was always parked -- my garage sits directly below the bedroom where my two young boys sleep. my expedition, which i bought new in 2001, was a total loss. it was in excellent condition until the day of the fire -- i reported the fire to my insurance company, usaa. unfortunately, ford has not provided any assistance or support after this horrible and life-threatening incident. *tr

My ford expedition 2001 is stuck in park position and the interior roof lights are dead along with everything else riding on that circuit. i called the dealer and they advise it's a defective brake release switch. i replaced the switch and that did not resolve my problem as the 5a fuse keeps popping. according to internet sources, other customers had this problem and it's affiliated with a ford recall # 05v380000 (vehicle speed control). i took the vehicle to the dealer this morning they replace the faulty component as instructed by the recall notice; however, the problem still exist. further investigation pointed out that now, the cruise control servo and plug is what is causing the short in the electrical system. when i received the recall notice a few years ago the dealer the dealers resolution was to disconnect the working cruise control and now it become problematic perhaps from having an exposed plug creating a fire hazard. ford motor company refuses to pay for the related damages resulting in a short in the electrical system thus resulting in a potential creating a fire hazard. the technician mentioned the switch was leaking and it appears my vehicle was about to catch on fire. now they insist i should come out of pocket to pay over $850 to clean up the mess resulting from their design flaw and current recall. i called ford

Several times, usually at stop lights, while idling with foot on the brake, the engine surges up to approx 1000 rpm for approx 3-5 sec. if foot was not on the brake, the truck could have accelerated into the car in front of me, or into the intersection. every time i'm at the ford dealership i have them investigate, but nothing is found on the computer code search, and the symptom is very irregular and rare, so it has not reproduced while at the dealer. i've seen this reported before on mycarstats.com. *nm

Dt: the contact complained about several problems with vehicle. first, the accelerator pedal stuck. the dealer cleaned the throttle body which seemed to solve the problem. the vehicle would sometimes surge forward. she thought the surging was related to apparent transmission problems. she finally had the transmission rebuilt. part of the cost was covered under the extended warranty. secondly, the seat belt in the middle row did not retract correctly. the dealer could not duplicate the problem. therefore, no repairs were made to the seat belt. thirdly, the left rear door actuator had to be replaced because the power locks were not working. fourthly, the rear passenger child safety lock did not work properly. once the child safety lock was deactivated, and the door handle was raised from the inside, the child safety lock activated. the contact's husband corrected this problem by taking apart the lock and cleaning it. she had to push very hard on the exterior key pad to get it to work. the dealer did not think this was a problem since she was able to get it to work eventually. lastly, the right front power window worked intermittently. the dealer could not duplicate the problem, and no repair was made.*ak

New 2001 expedition. started lurching forward in 2002. this happens when i was parking in the garage, the foot is not touching any of the pedals its coasting very very slowly cause your going to put your foot on the break to stop. all of a sudden it lunges forward at the same time radio goes louder and the air conditioner or heater speeds up, its like a power serge. it has taken a while to figure that out, it happens so fast and is not predictable. when it does happen like last week it had been months, i had completely forgot about it. i was in the driveway parking by our chevy truck and almost hit it. one time in the beginning it happened at a stop light i almost hit the car in front of me but i always have a few feet in front of me. however if i was at stop light and a pedestrian was walking across and this happened , i'm sure it would hit them cause they don't always walk between the white lines. in 2002 i did take the truck into ford dealer they ran a test and it didn't acted up on them they said that until it would do it for them they couldn't fix it. so now my son will be driving next year if the problem isn't fixed we will have to get rid of it . it is a nice suv and we wanted to have it for at least 200,000 miles. *nm

I own a 2001 ford expedition. in the years since i have had it i have experienced sudden acceleration numerous times. i have been fortunate in that when the sudden accelaration happens i have been at a stand still at a traffic light or heavy traffic and therefor already stepping on the brakes. the engine will rev up all of a sudden, it has caught me off guard a couple of times because it does not happen often but when it does you can of course hear it, feel the vehicle reving up and see the needles on the meters go all the way to the other end. the times that it did catch me off guard the truck jumped forward in the second it took me to apply the brakes. it has not caused any crash or injuries but i watched a report on nbc channel 2 news in houston and felt i should probably report this in case this is happening to more people with this type of vehicle it could be a serious problem.*ak

I own a 2001 ford expedition 5.4l and on at least ten different occasions the vehicle has suddenly accelerated. luckily, every time this has occured the vehicle was at a full stop and my foot was on the brake pedal. the vehicle would surge forward and the tachometer would jump to about 3500 to 4000 rpm. the surge only lasts for a few seconds, but it is enough to lunge the vehicle forward. after the second or third incodent we took it back to the dealership where we bought it (dub miller ford in rosenberg tx.) and they said they could not find anything wrong. i don't know what is wrong with this truck, but i would like to get it fixed before my wife or child are injured, this is my wife's primary vehicle and most of the incidents have happened to her.*ak
