While driving at 40 mph engine stopped working making brakes and steering fail. limped off busy road luckily! engine light showed electronic throttle failure. now check engine light is on. going to dealers for repair today-since this is an obvious problem for ford why haven't they addressed it! could be deadly if fails in heavy traffic conditions.

The spark plug broke in the engine costing a lot of money to repair. now another one is stuck and i cant afford to get it fixed. this could possibly cause fire and create a safety hazard. there are numerous complaints out there and this really needs to be a recall situation. *tr

First time it occurred i was traveling to work the car stalled while driving approx. 20 mph and there was no control of the car - was able to move to side of road and restart. fault on the console was electronic throttle. has happen approx 4 more times at various speeds and conditions with three different drivers. no problem ever found by dealer. has happened at high speed on the freeway complete loss of steering and power occurs more concerning it can happen at any time without warning. i find this to be extremely dangerous and a death trap waiting to happen. the last time it occurred when by teenage daughter was driving she was scared to death refusing to drive it home. this reminded me of toyota prius so i took it upon myself to report my incidents. looking at the internet i now find it occurs frequently and it is not an isolated case. *tr

The air conditioning unit is leaking excessive amounts of water under the carpet and the water is pooling under the rug and flowing into the channel where the wiring harness is located. this wiring harness does not look to be protected from water and it is a mater of time before the insulation on this wire breaks down and shorts out to the frame. *tr

Warning light said electronic throttle control, this is the third time i have almost had a major accident and ford tells me to call them when i have an accident or the code shows back up. they admit that they are aware of this issue but it must fail completely before it can be replaced under warranty or recall. also the truck cuts out at 60mph and jerks until you speed up. they advised they are also aware of this problem and come back when it breaks down.

Traveling along congested city street during morning rush and vehecial looses all power. instament cluster lights are all on. message say check electronic trottle i was able to ture the vehical off and back on twice before the error cleared. i have an appointment at the dealership in the morning. but these other reports don't give me much hope. and i just paid off the note last week.

2005 expedition randomly stalls at various speeds usually around 45 - 50 miles per hour. you have to try to get to the side of the road, stop and give the car a couple of minutes and crank it again. i have taken to ford dealership and i need a throttle position sensor. it will be $700 to fix. the person that owned the vehicle before me had already replaced this same part. my concern is i spend the $700 and still have the same problem. this is a serious safety issue, i stay in constant fear that it is going to stall at any minute. i can't believe ford has not recalled this. this is my second ford but will be my last.

Our vehicle is a 2005 ford expedition limited. on two occasions this vehicle has unexpedtedly lost all power with the message check electronic throttle appearing. on one occassion we were making a left turn on a busy road. when the vehicle lost power we were stuck in the middle of the road with oncoming traffic having to stop suddenly to keep from hitting us broadside. turning off the ignition and restarting the car made the problem go away. last week my wife and son were in the vehicle coming to a stop at an intersection. when applying the brake the vehicle suddenly accelerated. my wife had to break hard and narrowly missed hitting the car in front of her. the vehicle was brought to the dealership where i was informed that they will need to replace the throttle body. after resaearching this issue on the internet it appears that both these problems are common with the 2005 expedition. if this vehicle has not seriously injured or killed someone yet it is amazing and just a matter of time before it happens. i do not understand why this problem is being ignored by ford!

We wife has a 2005 ford expediton, it is used mainly for her to haul our kids to practice and school back and forth. the truck is constantly dying while driving it. the display shows check electronic throttle control. this morning she was taking the kids to school when it died while going through an intersection. i have talked to several different dealers who say they never heard of this problem, but can check it out for $$$$$$ yet i can search the internet and find the same problem happening to these expeditions. my questions is why isn't ford being responisble and getting these recalled and repaired before someone is killed in these vehicles. can you imagine driving with your loved ones and loosing full control of your vehicle at anytime.we have expericed the shutdown at all speeds. it is getting worse. where is the recall ford?? before someone is killed.........update changed out the tps quess what didn't fix it still doing it..what now ford??

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford expedition. while driving at various speeds, the contact heard a beeping noise and then noticed that the check electronic throttle warning light was illuminated as the vehicle lost power. the failure recurred on four separate occasions. the vehicle was towed to a private mechanic who advised the contact that the electronic control module had failed. he removed the battery terminal, reset the computer, cleared all codes, replaced the throttle position censor, and cleaned the throttle body. the dealer was notified of the previous failures and did not offer any assistance. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the current mileage was 110,000 and the failure mileage was 70,000. the vin was unavailable.

Cars shuts off while driving! i have experience this four times at various speeds. the car shuts off and the check electronic throttle control light comes on. twice have been on the freeway at 65 miles per hour without warning. both times i was able to start engine by putting it in neutral while driving. although i would not recommend performing this technique as you may accidentally put the car into reverse and at that speed it could be risky. however, i had no choice because of the lane i was in. as most have mentioned, this is serious problem especially when driving with family in vehicle. my wife will not drive the car because she's afraid...i don't blame her. ford sells itself as a family oriented company so lets protect our families and fix the problem. these complaints date as far back as 2005. are they waiting until some of their customers start getting in serious accidents? this is a life threatening problem and needs to be addressed! if they do not want to perform a recall then they should at least tell us how to fix it since their dealers are not.

Driving at 45 mph vehicle just turns off and has no power. hard to steer and brake. dash says check electronic throttle control. after pulling over vehicle willl restart. this has happened three times now and dealer says there is nothing wrong.

I was driving up the highway with my two kids in my car. i was traveling about 40 mph. all of a sudden i hear the beep on my system and it stated that i needed to check electronic throttle control. i laid off the gas and went thru a light when i attempted to hit the gas again i realized i had no power at all and i was coasting. i got in the turning lane and had to pull in front of a car just so i would not be stuck in the middle of the road where my kids and i would have been in an accident. i waited about 10 minutes and the vehicle fired up. i was in tears trying to make it to my office because i felt like it might happen again. the whole mile it took for me to get there the truck felt like it was going to shut off again. it felt like the truck did not have gas and was riding on fumes. it was shaking and moving slowing. i will not drive it like this and will probably trade it in now. i cannot drive a vehicle that i do not feel is reliable for me and my kids. this is the first time that this has happened and the truck has 83k miles on it. i also had problems with the catalytic converter at 46k miles. my mechanic said that the throttle body could have failed as a result of the catalytic converter not working properly. i might try to fix the problem depending on costs associated with it or might get another vehicle.

I was traveling w/b on i-96 near the okemos exit when my 2005 ford expedition's engine suddenly shut off. a warning stating, check electronic throttle control came on. i exited the express way. the engine still ran in idle, but would not run any faster than that. i pulled into a parking lot and shut off the engine. i restarted the vehicle and it began running normally again. approximately five minutes later, while i was exiting a parking lot, the same thing happened again. this time the engine would not run at all and the power steering stopped working. i restarted the vehicle again and it ran fine. however, the check engine light is now illuminated. i have researched online and have observed that this is a problem for many people. there are forums of complaints about this exact same problem found on countless websites. furthermore, this is a very dangerous problem. if i would have been traveling through an intersection when this occurred i could have been hit. this expedition has had many electrical problems including: turn signal failure, fuel pump module failure, lights and signals randomly not working, wipers randomly not working, etc. i have spent a lot of money repairing these issues. i am fed up with them and i am contacting you today because the electrical issues in this car are finally becoming unsafe. i have also contacted ford and am waiting for a response. my vehicle only has approximately 92,000 miles on it and is still under an extended powertrain warranty.

This is the fifth incident regarding this vehicle. in each case, the car was traveling at a normal rate of speed under ordinary traffic conditions. without warning, the car either lost power and shut off suddenly or lost the ability to accelerate and slowed to a stop. in each case the dashboard message center warning check electronic throttle control (or something similar) appeared. in each case the driver turned the ignition switch to the off position, waited several minutes, and then started the car. the warning message no longer appeared and the car ran fine without any further immediate incident. in this particular case (incident #5), the car was traveling at approximately 25 mph south on 14th st nw in washington, dc, when the car lost the ability to accelerate, and the check electronic throttle control warning appeared in the dashboard message center. due to traffic and street parking conditions, the driver was unable to move the car out of the active traffic lane, thereby temporarily blocking traffic. the driver turned off the ignition, waited approximately 3 minutes, and then started the car. the dashboard warning light was no longer illuminated, and the car was able to accelerate normally. incidents similar to this have been reported on various websites.

While traveling 50 mph on busy street car power failed, shutting off completely including loss of power steering. engine failure light came on. restarted after that and drove fine. since then it has occurred 3 times over last month. last week occurred at when i was attempting to turn with a turn signal but shut off before i could make the turn. this is a life threatening problem and needs to be recalled. thought it had to do with low gas tank but had plenty of gas last week.

Stopped at a traffic light intersection to make a right turn. while i was making the right turn about 5 mph, the 2005 ford expedition stalled and all the lights went on. i waited for about 10 seconds to turn on the car. the car started. i stopped 5 minutes later to stop the engine to see if everything was ok. it took two tries to start the engine. i took it to a ford dealer the next day to get it inspected. they claim it was the throttle position sensor. i got that replaced for ~$340.00.

I own a 2005 ford expedition and have experienced losing all throttle control on the freeway. i was lucky enough to make it safely to the side of the road. i was scared . there were 5 people in the vehicle including two yound children. very dangerous! this happens without warning. after about 5 minutes, the vehicle started up again without any problems. today i have a different problem. o/d led flashes on dash and vehicle will not accelerate properly. i had it towed to the nearest mechanic. they suspect a transmission fault. i wish i never decided on getting this suv. i should not be scared to drive my car. ford needs to fix this problem asap!!!!!

This is incident 3 of 3 with respect to this vehicle. in each case, the car was traveling at a normal rate of speed under ordinary traffic conditions. without warning, the car either lost power and shut off suddenly or lost the ability to accelerate and slowed to a stop. in each case dashboard message center warning check electronic throttle control (or something similar) appeared. in each case the driver turned the ignition switch to the off position, waited several minutes, and then started the car. the warning message no longer appeared and the car ran fine without further immediate incident. in this particular case (incident #3), the car was traveling at approximately 25 mph on a two-lane (one lane in each direction) dc city street. the car lost power completely, and the driver was not able to move the car out of the lane of traffic, thereby blocking the heavy line of traffic behind her. after several minutes, the driver was able to restart the vehicle.

2005 ford expedition. while driving on the hwy the check electronic throttle control light came on and shut down my car.. i had no accelerator pedal control. this occurs on average once a month. when this happens ,you have no power. you have to coast to the side of the road and call for help.

I was driving 55mph on highway, when all of a sudden there was no power to gas pedal. the check electronic throttle control light flashed, i pulled over three lanes to side of road. i sat there trying to start vehicle continuously, finally after 10 minutes it started.

Our 2005 ford expediton has shut off without warning twice now. the first time this happened we were driving back from missouri to virginia after the holidays in january of this year. we were on the interstate driving about 70 mph when the car just stopped and the check engine light came on. we called ford and they said to let it sit for 30 minutes and then try to start the car again. we did and it worked. the technician explained that it may have been the cold weather. just yesterday 12 sep 2010 my wife was driving home from work when the car shut off on its own again and the check engine light illuminated. she waited a few minutes and the car started again. the cold had nothing to do with it yesterday. both times we were forced to coast to the side of the road in heavy traffic. living in the dc area and using interstate 95 on a sunday afternoon is always a challenge. having your vehicle just stop running is insane. i am unable to find anything about a recall, but in a search of the web i found numerous owners having a similar issue. what is ford doing about this?

2005 ford expedition - electronic throttle problem. this has been an on-going problem since 2008, a very dangerous problem. will the notification warns you the car dies in mid-traffic causing you to coast and then the engine dies. i have had this fixed in 2008 and in 2009 and 2010 is having the same issue - someone will end up with a death due to this problem. please investigate.

My 2005 ford expedition will suddenly turn off while in motion with no warning. there is no pattern to determine when it will turn off. in the 6 months i have owned the vehicle, it has turned off close to a dozen times, at speeds ranging from 20 miles an hour to full freeway speed. the electronic throttle control light turns on. i have taken it to a reputable mechanic who was unable to replicate the problem as the code reported that the error occurred while the vehicle was turned off - which is technically impossible. research has shown this is a common problem with this vehicle, and it is obviously dangerous for a vehicle to turn off while it is in motion. i would hope this vehicle is recalled before information leaks that people have died as a result.

While driving my ford 2005 expedition the car stops responding to the throttle and losses all power. the dashboard warning system displays check electronic throttle control. after shutting the engine off and waiting several minutes the car can be restarted and driven. we have inquired about this issue with no satisfaction

My 2005 ford expedition suddenly lost all power while driving in roseville, ca on saturday february 13th 2010. my family of four was in the car, and luckily, we avoided an accident. a engine fail safe mode light came on, and i had to pull on the side of the road. i restarted my vehicle with no problems. *tr

While traveling at approximately 60 mph in morning rush hour on a major highway a message appeared on the display board stating check electronic throttle sensor vehicle then immediately died and i was unable to accelerate. i was able to coast to the shoulder attempting to avoid any collisions. once i came to a stop i placed the vehicle in park and turned the ignition off. after a few minutes i restarted the car without any problems. the message on the display screen was no longer there but the check engine was on. for the remainder of the day i had no further issues. the following day after work it happened again in 5:00 traffic. once returning home i began to do some research on this issue. to my surprise i am not the only one having this issue. there are 100's of post on line in multiple places inquiring about this issue. my concern is the safety of my family and others that may be on the highway when this issue occurs. when this occurs you are unable to accelerate. this could cause severe accidents as well as deaths if this issue is not addressed. *tr

Electric throttle control went out while driving ast 60 mph also ignition fuse went out so car was dead leaving me stranded in the middle of no where with 4 girls in the car. the engine literally stopped while i was driving at 60 mph. could have been very dangerous if on a crowded interstate. *tr

While driving our 2005 ford expedition the check throttle light came on. the car immediately quit running and fortunately i was able to coast to a stop. we called our ford dealership and was told they thought a recall had been issued for this problem. we took the car to the ford dealership and was told then that they could not find a recall for this problem. it costs us $626.37. we have since learned that there have been numerous complaints about this same problem on 2005 ford expeditions. was told when we called ford headquarters that we needed to file a complaint. *tr

This is the 5th time this particular malfunction has occurred within a 4 month period. while cruising at low speed (5-15 mph) in stop and go traffic, the engine light illuminates and the vehicle shuts down. with the vehicle engine off there isn't any power steering and driver must maneuver safely to the side of the road and come to a complete stop, place vehicle in park and restart the engine. the error message is about the throttle control and the vehicle is only 4 years old with 64,000 miles. this is a safety concern especially at high rates of speed and the part is not covered by the vehicle warranty. i went to the ford dealer where we purchased vehicle and was charged $684.00 to replace the electronic throttle control. that's when i learned that this malfunction has recently been occurring on several 2005 ford expedition vehicles in the last 6 months. apparently, there is no ford recall for this part and it is a true safety concern for all ford expedition owners. *tr

I was driving 55mph on highway, when all of a sudden there was no power to gas pedal. the check electronic throttle control light flashed, i pulled over three lanes to side of road. i sat there trying to start vehicle continuously, finally after 10 minutes it started. my 9 month old daughter and i was almost killed on the highway due to this problem. my vehicle is now running terrible. i came home to see if i could find anything on the internet and found that this is common in the 2005 ford expedition and nothing is being done. is it going to take someone getting killed for ford to recall this problem? it obviously is a manufacturing problem and they are doing nothing about it. i will be contacting ford tomorrow to see about getting my vehicle in and fixing this. *tr

As i was driving to my office shortly after noon today, an alert appeared check electronic throttle system. my expedition would not accelerate, i coasted into a parking lot and tried to accelerate, but nothing happened. i turned off the engine and restarted my vehicle - i could then accelerate my vehicle and continued to my office. this is was a very scary incident, thankfully i was the only one in my vehicle today; my grandson is sometimes with me. i am also thankful that i was in the right lane, so i was able to coast into the parking lot. *tr

On my 2005 ford expedition i have gotten an alert of check electronic throttle system. on two occasions when this alert has sounded, the vehicle has died out in the middle of travel and i had to get to the side of the roadway to restart. on two other occasions when this alert has sounded, the vehicle did not die but i was not able to accelerate. i had to stop and restart the vehicle. this is very dangerous when you are traveling down the roadway and your car either dies out or losses power. after the second occurance i took it into the dealership and was told that they found nothing when hooked up to the computer. they could do nothing. the vehicle runs fine other than this. there is no warning whatsoever that this is going to occur. *tr

While driving, check engine throttle control light comes on. the car essentially shuts down - loses acceleration, power steering, etc. this has happened three times...december 10, 2008, february 23, 2009, and march 2, 2009. the car will start again if you turn it off and re-start it. this can be extremely dangerous if it happens at a point where it's hard to pull over. after reading message boards, it seems to be a fairly common problem in 2005 expeditions. *tr

I was driving on the freeway at 65mph and the check electronic throttle control light came on and then my vehicle engine shut off. i had to pull over with no power and little ability to turn before vehicle would restart. it has done this now three times. i have researched the cost for repairs but due to the high expense ($500) i am not able at this time to fix. *tr

I was driving about 70mph when the message center tone sounded and the message read check throttle control. the engine continued to run, however, the accelerator became inoperable. it seems as if a lot of 05 expedition owners are having the same problem. this is just way to dangerous to drive with this issue. i never drive in the middle lane on highways now for fear that this could happen at any time. *tr

While driving the vehicle will have not have any throttle response and check electronic throttle component shows on dash. after pulling to the side of the road, or coasting into someone's drive-way on a curvey road, turn the ignition off and sit for a few minutes and restart engine and is fine. has occurred 3 times now, all 3 at speeds less than 45 mph. took the vehicle to ford dealership where they charged me $75 to tell me the battery needed to be replaced because that is all the codes that they came up with. then i would have to return the vehicle to have it checked again. on my description of service codes p-1867-2f, b-1317-2f, b1318-2f, b2477-60, b2486-20, b1318-20, u1900-20, p0121-ff, p2104-ff, p2112ff, b1318ff, were all found. *tr

I bought my 2005 ford expedition in march 2007 with 21k miles on it. i have had to replace 2 different injectors in 16 months because the vehicle will start cutting back and acting like it wants to cut off when it stops at a light . the most recent replacement came when i drove it 5 miles from home and it jerked continuously the entire inside of the vehicle smelled like gas very strongly as well as the exhaust. the truck stays parked most of the time because im too scared to drive it and its a gas hog!!!!!! the replacement of the injectors are not cheap!!!! the inside lights will come on and go off at anytime for no reason. i tap the brakes and they come on, i roll the window up or down and they come on. i have also had to replace the battery due to this happening even when the truck has been parked for hours. i have replaced the oxygen sensor and a coli pack. its never ending and i feel like i should not have to continue to replace these things when i am obviously not the only one with this problem. ford needs to step up and take responsibility for their crappy products. i have 5 more years @ $515 per month to pay for this piece of crap!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr

My wife was driving our 2005 ford expedition with 50,000 miles. she stated that the radio quit working and then the vehicle quit running. at that point the horn began to blow continuously until smoke started to come out of the right side of the dash. at this time she exited the vehicle with our boys and called the fire dept. by the time they arrived the vehicle was fully involved with fire. needless to say the expedition is totaled from the fire. the entire interior is burnt up and melted. i have found similar complaints on several forums. *tr

I have a 2005 ford expedition, eddie bauer. most recently (2 weeks ago), my check electronic throttle light came on, i called my local dealer and planned to take it in the next day. i work close to home and have limited driving distance. on the way home, the throttle went completely out and the vehicle cut off on the side of the road and was unable to be restarted and had to be towed. my local dealer did fix it in a timely manner. however...this is not the first problem. we bought it brand new and within a month the fuel injector went out when i was coming back home from out of town, my drivers side seat adjustment went out twice and had to be replaced. i am short and had to drive with my seat all the way back. 2 cam phasers had to be replaced back in the summer and then most recently this. i have 2 small children and would prefer a dependable vehicle. i filed a formal complaint with ford and heard from them today of which i was told that having 49,000 miles on my vehicle it was not unusual for parts to go bad. i live on a hard surface road and drive to work, normal day to day activities and of course vacation. the only thing they would do was upgrade my warranty to cover the transmission. it already has the extended warranty. i am disappointed they would not stand by their product. i have owned 2 toyoyta's in the past and plan to go back to a toyota and a ford could not be given to me again. *tr

George newcomb landers mclarty 2609 south walton bentonville, ar 72712 i purchased a 2005 expedition from you a few weeks ago. on 11-23-05 i brought it over to have some defects repaired. defects that were to be fixed. transmission. when stopped on a hill if you remove your foot from the brake the vehicle will roll out of control. this happens if you are stopped with the vehicle in reverse going down a hill of in drive going up a hill. the transmission will shift at odd times as you are driving. rear passenger dome light flickers when you turn in on with the switch in the back. right turn signal flashes very fast. tires are very bad out of balance. driver door does not latch unless it is shut hard. i told jesse that they had to be done by 5:00 pm. after keeping the vehicle all day nothing was fixed. during my visit in your office on 12-9-05 you assured me that the transmission would be replaced. you also stated that ford was aware of the bad tires and would replace them now that i had complained. in addition to the above the following new defects have been found. turn signals will sometimes not work at all. when making a sharp turn the rear end will slip. you can fill it not holding the road. outside fumes are sucked into the vehicle. any smell or exhaust from this or other vehicles is pulled inside. the leather on the front seats has turned black. the transmission, rear end problem and tires are all major safety problems. these must be fixed. i feel that having my wife drive a vehicle with these problems is putting her in danger. the turn signals and light problem are possible fire hazards. the uncontrolled air intake is a problem that could cause people inside the vehicle to be gassed by a passing vehicle. my wife has very bad allergies when these smells are pulled into the vehicle she has trouble breathing. i have never owned anything made from leather that has changed colors. *nm

I was driving my 2005 ford expedition, 85,000 mile driven, was traveling on level ground in traffic at 45 mph when the engine speed went to idle and i could not accelerate. the engine was still running and both power brakes and power steering still functioned. the message on the information panel stated something to the effect of electronic throttle dysfunction. fortunately, i was not in heavy traffic and in the right hand lane and was able to coast to a stop on the side of the road. the ignition was turned off and allowed to set for a few moments. upon restarting everything functioned properly and has continued to do so since. this could have easily been a fatal problem if the timing had been poor. my ford dealer service manager stated this is the 3rd. one like this in the last two weeks. my vehicle is presently being repaired by replacing part of its computer. unfortunately, ford does not see fit to assume responsibility. *tr

Tl* - while driving a 2005 ford expedition at approximately at 5 mph she noticed black smoke coming from the interior of the vehicle. the contact stated she had her phone charger plugged into the cigarette light adapter. the contact initially thought the fire was coming from under the hood, she then discovered the fire was coming from inside the car. the plastic around the phone charger caught fire. the contact poured baby formula on the flames to extinguish the fire. the failure mileage was 39,000. the vehicle was towed to a ford dealer. the vehicle failure had not been diagnosed at this time. the contact has pictures.*ak
