Driving in city traffic, at approximately 35 mph. the electronic throttle control light came on and engine died. we were able to coast to gas station. the vehicle started right up and everythings worked fine. the next day took vehicle to ford dealership. after troubleshooting, they were not really sure of what was the problem. but they suggested changing the throttle body. we decided to take vehicle home. vehicle worked fine until yesterday, the problem occurred again. this is an unsafe condition. there is a large about of e-mail traffic about this same problem, and ford has not issued a recall. *tr

First time it occurred i was traveling to work the car stalled while driving approx. 20 mph and there was no control of the car - was able to move to side of road and restart. fault on the console was electronic throttle. has happen approx 4 more times at various speeds and conditions with three different drivers. no problem ever found by dealer. has happened at high speed on the freeway complete loss of steering and power occurs more concerning it can happen at any time without warning. i find this to be extremely dangerous and a death trap waiting to happen. the last time it occurred when by teenage daughter was driving she was scared to death refusing to drive it home. this reminded me of toyota prius so i took it upon myself to report my incidents. looking at the internet i now find it occurs frequently and it is not an isolated case. *tr

I was driving, when i tried to further accelerate, the car did not respond and a warning check electronic throttle control. i pulled over and was able to restart the car and continue to drive as normal. the internet indicates this is a common problem in 2005 expeditions. this is obvious a highly dangerous situation to not be able to accelerate while already driving. *tr

2005 ford expedition electronic throttle control light will come on and the engine will stall. this will happen at any time, any speed and without warning. unfortunatley someone will have to be severly injured before ford takes a look at this.

Transmission on 2005 expedition is slipping. when the vehicle is placed into drive and the foot throttle is depressed the vehicle hesitates to move forward, but then jerks forward. other times it seems like it doesn't want to upshift when driving on the freeway. i must also state that the paint on the tip of the hood and on the tailgate are starting to bubble /blister, the vehicle is only 5 years old and the paint is cared for through polishing and waxing twice a year. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford expedition. when he attempted to drive the fail safe mode warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel, and then the vehicle stalled. the throttle also disengaged, which caused the vehicle to drive in neutral gear. he usually has to restart the vehicle to resume normal operation. no repairs were made. the failure mileage was 51,195. the current mileage was 61,000.

While driving with a small child in the car - less than 15mph near a residential area - my 2005 ford expedition ltd suddenly flashed an error message check electronic throttle control and immediately lost acceleration, braking and steering. i was able to veer the vehicle to the side of the road without causing an accident. i used the emergency brake to stop the vehicle at which time i manually turned off the ignition. waited a few moments, and managed to get the vehicle started and running again. there was absolutely no warning and the vehicle gives you no opportunity to get the vehicle pulled over safely before disengaging. this appears to be a very serious and dangerous sudden mechanical failure. *tr

My 05 ford expedition was recently in the shop several months back for electronic throttle issues. tonight the check electronic throttle light came on and caused a total loss of acceleration. i put my hazards on and coasted to the side of the road. after turning off my engine and restarting my vehicle runs like normal again. luckily it was very late at night and no other cars were around. this is potentially very dangerous if it occurs in fast moving traffic. i have researched this issue and see countless posts on internet forums from 05 ford expedition owners detailing my exact issue and temporary solution. when is this going to be officially acknowledged by ford as a serious defect and recalled? *tr

Driving my 2005 ford expedition limited in the morning. after about 2 miles the car powered to a crawl and and gave engine fail safe mode alert. pulled to side. powered down car and the restarted without incident. a week later the same thing happened again. this is apparently a defective throttle control unit. this description is all over the internet and is a known safety problem as people are reporting that it has happened to them on the freeway. car is unsafe to drive and even though the problem is well known, ford company is taking no responsibility. all nhtsa has to do is google engine fail safe mode and see the number of problems that come up with same issue. this is definitely a well known safety problem but yet there is no recall. dealer says throttle control unit has to be replaced at a cost of $514.61 + tax. this problem may also have taken out my air conditioning. it went out at the same time as the second failure, but dealer (vista ford in oxnard) is saying there is no relationship. others have reported a/c shutting down when engine fail safe failure occurred.

George newcomb landers mclarty 2609 south walton bentonville, ar 72712 i purchased a 2005 expedition from you a few weeks ago. on 11-23-05 i brought it over to have some defects repaired. defects that were to be fixed. transmission. when stopped on a hill if you remove your foot from the brake the vehicle will roll out of control. this happens if you are stopped with the vehicle in reverse going down a hill of in drive going up a hill. the transmission will shift at odd times as you are driving. rear passenger dome light flickers when you turn in on with the switch in the back. right turn signal flashes very fast. tires are very bad out of balance. driver door does not latch unless it is shut hard. i told jesse that they had to be done by 5:00 pm. after keeping the vehicle all day nothing was fixed. during my visit in your office on 12-9-05 you assured me that the transmission would be replaced. you also stated that ford was aware of the bad tires and would replace them now that i had complained. in addition to the above the following new defects have been found. turn signals will sometimes not work at all. when making a sharp turn the rear end will slip. you can fill it not holding the road. outside fumes are sucked into the vehicle. any smell or exhaust from this or other vehicles is pulled inside. the leather on the front seats has turned black. the transmission, rear end problem and tires are all major safety problems. these must be fixed. i feel that having my wife drive a vehicle with these problems is putting her in danger. the turn signals and light problem are possible fire hazards. the uncontrolled air intake is a problem that could cause people inside the vehicle to be gassed by a passing vehicle. my wife has very bad allergies when these smells are pulled into the vehicle she has trouble breathing. i have never owned anything made from leather that has changed colors. *nm
