Engine was losing power under load (only while accelerating). no check engine light ever came on. at 88,000 miles figured that not only will i replace all 8 spark plugs, but would replace all 8 coil packs as well. upon removal on the spark plugs, 1 spark plug broke (so far) leaving the bottom piece inside the head. ford knows about this problem, as it can lead many like myself with an outrageous expense to properly remove the broken spark plug and can in the long run damage the aluminum head too. they are motor craft platinum (ceramic inside) spark plugs. napa sells a tool to extract the broke plug out. why in the world this is allowed to continue on without a recall is beyond me. ford knows about these issues and should have a massive recall for the any vehicle that contains these spark plugs, like my 2006 model with a 5.3l does. i have called ford and filed a former complaint and many others need to do so as well. i am also going to file a complaint with the bbb, as i spent a huge chunk of change and properly maintain my vehicle on a daily basis. if my truck has to go into a repair shop to have this plug removed, i will be very disappointed in ford's customer service. i have 4 fords today.......nothing has ever been this costly! i have a 71 bronco, 98 explorer, 01 ranger, and 06 expedition. i guess this will determine if i will stay as a ford owner in the future.

The vehicle has done this twice. driving along, it goes into fail safe mode and stops dead. the manual states this is a coolant issue which was not the case; there was adequate coolant. doing some research on various internet sites, this seems to be a common problem with 2006 expeditions. i called ford customer service and was told they were unaware of a problem. i find this difficult to believe given all the sites reporting this same issue.

False activation of engine failure mode system. engine went to idle speed, all gauges read normally and no warning lights came on. engine temperature was in normal range. engine failure mode message was displayed on message panel. i was able to safely coast off the road and stop the vehicle. i turned the ignition off, and observed that the engine coolant level in the coolant tank was normal. i then restarted the engine, and vehicle then operated normally.

'06 expedition went into engine fail safe mode as my wife was attempting to make a left hand turn crossing 2 lanes of traffic at a busy intersection. after coasting into a parking lot, she turned it off and turned it back on. it started right up and she went on her way. took it to a mechanic who said he could find nothing wrong. upon further investigation, i have found 100's of '06 expeditions with the same problem and it seems to point to the throttle body. a recent ac repair to this car was almost $800.00 and now i am hearing to repair the throttle body is upward to $700-$800. $1500 of repairs on a car with only 45,000 miles is unacceptable. the throttle body problem is very dangerous and ford should recall these cars and find out why this is happening before someone gets hurt or even worse, killed.

I am filing a complaint due to my 2006 ford expedition. over the few years that i have owned the s.u.v., for no apparent reason the vehicle just quits running, enters a fail safe mode, and all power is lost to the vehicle. this has happened now on many occasions and without any warning. its happened on interstates, bridges, as well as crossing multiple laned highways. this is a tremendous saftey issue that needs to be addressed. at first i thought my case might be isolated, but then after some research, i found that thousands are having the same problem with their expedition as well. i feel ford should find the problem and fix it before lives are destroyed. my wife and children are in this vehicle everyday. please if theres anything you can do.....help us!!

2006 ford expedition, engine fail safe mode car has shut off while driving 5 times in the last 6 months. the only way to get the car moving is to start it again. extremely unsafe. this vehicle was covered under an extended warranty and has gone in for service to correct the problem. ford cannot identify the problem! comes up with no code. i'm now off warranty and stuck with a very unsafe vehicle! ford needs to address this problem immediately!

I have a 2006 ford expedition eddie bauer under 5 years old that the tailgate is severely blistered all over, paint has even popped off of it. there is also some on the hood. the local ford dealership admitted that ford had a problem with the blistering paint and told me how bad my vehicle was. they took pictures and sent to ford. ford rep denied it and i was told that even if holes appeared as a result now they would do nothing for me because they had already denied and only look at a claim for one thing one time. i pursued further by calling customer service and emailing them as well. the customer service rep also admitted there was a problem with paint blister but could do nothing for me because it had already been denied. i have owned fords all of my life and even worked for a lincoln mercury dealership for several years. i am continuing to pursue this as far as i can and ask for any help that can be offered in this matter.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford expedition. on four separate occasions, while driving with the accelerator pedal depressed, the vehicle shut off. a wrench symbol appeared on the instrument panel and the vehicle had to be restarted. the dealer could not duplicate or determine the cause of the failure. the speed was unknown. the current mileage was 64,749 and failure mileage was 63,000.
