I purchased two michelin ltx ms2 235/75r15 tires from tire rack.com, e732381. they were delivered september 15, 2011 with an incorrectly completed omb control no. 2127-0050 tire registration card. the card listed the brand as bf goodrich and the tire identification numbers as betjmx912711. the tires i received are michelin b3dddvox2511 according to the tire sidewalls. i contacted tire rack's customer service department. they advised that there system showed that that i was sent michelin b3dddvox2511 tires and that it was not their responsibility to correctly complete the tire registration card. does this comply with dot regulations regarding tire retailer's conduct regarding tire recall registration?

Uniroyal tire side wall cracks lt 235 75r15 - no failure - just crack. all 4 of my tires had a side wall crack the entire diameter of the tire about 3 inches down on the side wall . i noticed the crack on the inside as well so it appears the tires had some issue. i had never applied tire foam cleaner(armor all tirefoam prior ) but one time this last week i did apply some and found the crack. looking under the 1991 ford explorer 4x4 i did see the same issue on the inside of a front tire as well...i never applied any armor all type cleaner on the inside either. uniroyal factory phone support blamed me of applying tire cleaner which ruins tires and so did the walmart tire store staff . i never applied anything as this is an older vehicle which and no pr or show appeal. walmart replaced all 4 tires on 10-25-09 but the tire pressure was not 35 psi its was around 43 according to my gage..the tires are rated for 50psi. walmart charged the problem to my warranty and then wanted to charge again for a new warranty. this was a tire factory problem as both side of the tires had a crack not a field road hazard issue. kingman az has temp ranges from 110 in july to 9 degrees in winter...this may be factor. *tr

I found several recalls for my vehicle. it is an old vehicle, but i only bought it in 2003. i know some of them expired, and it says to contact fod. i did via web site. they do not show any recalls. but, you showed me over 5 recalls? can i still get them fixed? my tires i guess, have been replaced but they did nit replace the spare tire. i still have the recalled spare tire?? what do i do now? can i do anything? but, i still have bad tires, the 2001 tire recall does not say what brand? i have atx and apt firestone tires. campain #92v113000,91v189000,00t005000 and another tire recall, i did not get the #, but it was in 2001. thank you. *ak

Just a few more data points for the firestone investigation; two of the firestone atx tires that came as original equipment on my 1991 ford explorer experienced tread separation in mid 1995, causing body damage but no accident or injury. we took the tread from one to a local firestone dealer, who claimed it was road hazard damage and that he couldn't help us. the tires were always inflated to the psi recommended on the sidewall; they were not underinflated. *ak (dot number: unknown tiresize: p235/75r15)

Tire failure 8-21-91, 302 miles, 26 psi, right rear, flat tire in parking lot. mitchell tire service in anaheim ca put air in tire & discover a pin hole leak in sidewall. he then dismounted tire to look for hole inside tire. no hole found inside tire, & told me the belt was seperating. he told me that since it was a sport ute, it was not covered under firestones warranty, i had to purchase another tire. i managed to get firestone factory to pay me back for failed tire. tire failure #2, 1-11-92, 4,000 miles, 32 psi, left rear, tire flat in driveway. firestone dealer in el toro, ca put air in the tire & discovered a pin hole leak. he said i had to purchase another tire since it wasn't covered by warranty. i tried to get firestone factory to replace tire, but they refused. so i purchased a goodyear wrangler. tire failure #3, 1-25-92, 7,912 miles, 32 psi, left rear, tire started to vibrate on south bound 5 freeway in irvine. mark c bloom, in el toro, ca spun the tire up on their balancing machine, & then advised me that the tire was severely out of round, a condition caused by the tire starting to seperate, so i purchased a goodyear wrangler. i still have the original fr480 spare. the first two letters of the dot code are w2. the (3) fr480 tires that failed may have had same designation, but i don't know for sure. note: i have had no problems with goodyear tires on any of the (3) sets i have purchased! note: as i listened to jacques nassers testimony, something was mentioned which jarred my memory. rep billy tauzin asked him about hotline document# 71 pg# 3 dated 8-19-96, which stated that a ford dealer had 16 explorers he couldnt balance the tires on. well, i had the same problem! mills ford rebalanced my tires at least 3 times in the first 3000 miles. but it didnt help however, after the failed firestone tires were replaced. the balancing problem went away. *ak( dot number: unknown tire size: p225/70r15 )

The tire peeled away and was flung up and hit the windshield on the driver's side. we were driving on the interstate and were going through two concrete bunkers in the midst of some road reconstruction with an 18 wheeler right on o ur bumper. he didn't see that the tire had exploded and bore down on us and to avoid being hit we had to ride on the rim while trying to control the truck until we could get out of the single lane of construction. we lost control of the truck after coming o ut of the bunker lane and went across the esplanade. we were able to come to a stop before going into the oncoming traffic but it bent the frame of the truck and ruined the rim. when we went to a firestone dealer at spring cypress and kuykendahl road in spring, texas we were told that the tires were our problem and we'd probably just picked up a nail. we had to replace the tires in that town.( dot number: )

While traveling on the local interstate, the tread on one of our rear tires separated. thank goodness it was at night and not much traffic. this occurred before the recall, we just thought that it was a fluke accident. the tire was replaced with the spare, which is also firestone, and another spare was purchased. now, we are having problems with the other rear tire -- we have called our local firestone dealer daily, but they have not received a shipment for recall replacements since the recall was issued. we are not in the position to make a major purchse of 4 new tires, and fear our safety. what in the world can we do? please advise -- i have contacted firestone, but only get their standard scripted answers. i also object to the way firestone is placing the blame of their faulty workmanship onto the customer and hot weather. if their tires cannot hold up to hot texas summers, then they should not be selling their product in texas. thank you for allowing me to vent.( dot number: )

On july 18, 1999, i was taking my daughter (15 at the time) to summer camp from henderson, nc to brown summit, nc. she was driving under her permit, and i was dozing. i was suddenly awakened by a sound like a machine gun, and the next thing i knew, we were spinning in circles across three lanes of i-40/85. we ended up spinning off the side of the road, but fortunately did not turn over. i found that my right rear tire (firestone wilderness at) had lost its tread, and that was the noise i had heard. a passing motorist stopped to see if we were ok, and he said that he didn't know how we avoided being creamed by an oncoming semi-trailer. the next day (monday), i went to a tire dealer in henderson, and forked out $400 for a set of michelin m/s tires. the dealer commented about the firestones, oh, yeah, sometimes tread does come off like that. we were lucky, and all we suffered were psychological injuries, and damaged wheel well. i recently traded in the vehicle and purchased a new isuzu rodeo.( dot number: )

At the time of tire failure we weren't aware of the general problems, so we didn't keep the tire, get info on the dot numbers, etc. april 2000 incident, tire had a big bubble on it after slightly hitting it on the curb at a turn. we replaced the tire immediately. may incident the car skidded after taking a right hand turn and car spun around and hit the curb. we assumed this was purely a skid because of rain slick streets, but now are wondering if the tire failed first. we replaced the tire and paid for other damage (damage to the axle and several other related parts). 4 tires now on this car are the recalled tires, so we believe the failed tires were the recalled tires also. they were both wilderness at tires.it never occured to us to save info on the tires at that time. the car is currently at a firestone dealer having the recalled tires replaced.( dot number: n/a tire size: p235/75r15 )

I purchased this vechicle march 2000. the vehicle has a vibration in the rear end at speeds greater than 60 mph. tires have been computer balanced therefore iliminating this as a cause. this vehicles does have the firestone wilderness at tires and i have been reading and keeping up with the possible recall. to find the possible cause of this vibration i did some research over the web to find that thousands of explorer owners are having the some problem. many of them have written off the cause as inherant to the vehicle. i have a theory that the problem with the firestone tires are not just the tires but also stem from this vibration in the rear end of the ford explorer. the information i have been reading seems to point to the ford explorer being the most frequent vehicle with firestone tire problem. it seems to me there must be a link. automotive chat rooms are filled with explorer owners having this vibration problem.

1st incident: steel belt broke and began flapping against rear left fender with terrific noise, car shaking, until broke off and could stop. was traveling at 74 m/p/h. could have been a fatal accident if faulty tire had been on front wheel.-2nd time car and steering wheel wobbling at 20m/p/h, suspected a similar problem on a tire. at a later opportunity, while pumping gas, discovered r/front tire's steel belt showing thru outer tire (again steel belt breaking). luckily discovered just in time.= 3rd time, car shaking at 65m/p/h. this time went to good year. they found the 3rd firestone tire separating. that was the final straw. ihad all 4 firestone tires replaced with good year , wanted firestone to pay for the damage to my car from the 1st incident. to do so, they insisted on my sending them the damaged tire, which i did not have (left with firestone store when replacing bad tire). i consider firestone tires as very hazzardous, requiring constant vigilance. would not want them ever again. my wife had to replace 2 of her firestone tires, also beginning to separate (car was shaking at 65 m/p/h). same thing happened to one of my relatives. i recommend that you urge that ford changes its brand of tires on itc cars.*ak( dot number: )

I installed a lift kit and bigger tires. knowing that my speedometer would be off, i had a shop check it out for me and found that with the larger tires, the speedometer was almost perfectly matched to real speed (new tire size 31x10.5x15) this means that the orginal setup from the factory was off, therefore increasing the milage shown on my odometer, which has decreased the value of the vehicle, as well a, making the warranty end at a sooner date. *ak

These tires provide no warning on wet or snowy corners before losing their grip. twice the vehicle suddenly went oversteering out of control; only advanced driving skills prevented a rollover. switching to another tire immediately cured the problem. this tire, in my opinion, is unsafe in wet or snowy weather.( dot number: tire size: p235 r15 )

Complete tread seperation from left rear tire at a highway speed of 65mph. the 1991 ford explorer is equiped with original factory firestone p225/70r15 tires. the tire size is not included in the firestone recall. the tread seperation occured at full highway speed of 65mph. the tread looks as if it was peeled off the tire like a banana peel all the way down to the visible steel belt. i was driving in the #1 left lane at 65mph and the force of the tread seperation caused the vehicle to veer radically to the right #3 lane before i could gain control of the vehicle narrowly missing the rear section of an 18 wheel semi truck by 15 feet to the rear. my family and i (and the drivers around me)were extreamly lucky. others will not be so lucky. firestone needs to be responsible and include p225/70r15 tires in the recall.( dot number: w2uu1mx131 tire size: p225/70r15 )
