| The cable that holds the spare tire under my truck broke while driving. i happened to look in my rearview mirror and saw my spare disembark from the truck rolling down the road. fortunatley i was travel on a lightly used road and there was no one behind me. can ony imagine what may have happened if it occurred on the freeway. i currently have it in for repair and am told at my cost. ford should own up to this flaw before someone is seroiusly hurt. *jb | |||

| I own a 1994 ford explorer and on two separate occasions within the last 18 months, smoke has poured out of the air conditioning system, smelling like burning leaves. on the first occasion, i had the vehicle serviced by gainesville ford and they cleaned out leaves from the system that apparently had been sucked in through the air intake. they cleaned it, but did not fix the root cause. now, approximately 18 months later, i had the same issue. again, gainesville ford cleaned debris out of the system, but have not done anything to prevent recurrence. i have spent approximately $400 on repairs for both occasions. ford knows that this is a design flaw, but refused to make any allowances on the repair cost and worse yet, continue to take no action to keep this from happening again and again. i feel i was lucky that the system did not actually catch on fire. my vehicle is not parked under trees and is actually garage kept, so this issue is absolutely a result of poor design and not due to abuse or lack of attention by the owner. *nlm | |||

| Check engine light comes on at times when the vehicle is towing a small trailer and using the transmission in drive instead of overdrive. vehicle mileage and driveability/performance suffer. o2 sensors have been replaced by dealer with new yet problem still exists.*ak | |||
| A piece of carpet developed a split which trapped the metal arm causing the accelerator to stick to the floor and rapidly speeding to about 75 mph before consumer turned off the ignition, consumer cut away this material behind the accelerator arm eliminating the problem.*et | |||

| Engine check light illuminates after driving an excess of 200 miles. computer diagnotic test indicates nothing is wrong. when inspecting vehicle, there is an gaseous odor and the vehicle begins to sputter. there are no problems if driven less than 200 consecutive miles. thank you. *ak | |||

| The floormat on the drivers side can easily slip in front of the accelerator pedal and result in full throttle. the first time this happened i thought i was going to crash and ended up slipping the ignition into neutral and shutting of engine in traffic. it still happens occasionally, but i know to check the floormat. i saw in the usa today that you were looking at sticking throttles in ford explorers and thought my experience might be relevant. | |||
