Each of the 4 door lock mechanisms (passenger & driver) have broken at one time after 100,000 miles, preventing the occupant of that seat from opening the car door from the inside. doors could be open from the outside (by rolling the window down and opening it using the outside door handle). the driver's door lock is currently broken - if the driver is inside without keys (keys are necessary to turn on power so the door window can be rolled down), he must then climb over the center console to exit through the passenger door. as mentioned, the driver side door lock is currently non-openable from the inside, but all other doors have had the same defect. there is a neoprene door lock part that breaks after 100,000 miles or so (i would guess), which causes this problem. *nlm

On the 1995 ford explorer, there exists a problem whereas an individuals could be trapped in the vehicle during an emergency, due to the lock mechanisms high rate of failure (poor quality material) on the rear passenger doors. to date, the doors cannot be opened from the inside, due to the (apparent) lock linkage breaking on each door.

The interior read door latches are not operable from the inside of the vehicle. the rear doors can only be opened from the outside of teh vehicle. there is a child safety mechanism which provides this function, but it is not engaged on either door. it appears that both of the interior door handle mechanisms are defective. i believe that this is a very serious safety issue as a passenger in the rear seats could become trapped with in the vehicle. i have never seen a door handle fail in all my years of driving and working on automobiles, much less two on one vehicle. thank you.

Child proof locks on both rear passenger doors have broken, causing the doors to become inoperable for exiting the vehicle. *ak consumer states the child locks were never used, consumer states that both rear locks failed within one week of each other. *slc

Rear hatchback hinges are buckled, preventing the hatchback from closing. water gets inside because of the 1 1/2 inch gap in the rear hatchback. also, exhaust fumes are coming from the rear hatchback. *ak
