 Vehicle was parked on a residential street and engine had been off for 30 minutes. driver was sitting in vehicle making phone calls when he smelled smoke and saw flaming wire under driver's seat. driver escaped unharmed and was able to remove some contents but vehicle was fully engulfed in flame within a few minutes, destroying vehicle entirely, melting pavement, burning nearby grass and trees, and melting bumper and paint on a nearby parked vehicle. fire department arrived to extinguish vehicle. *tr

 1995 ford explorer. consumer states seat back failure in rear -end collision *tgw the consumer stated while sitting at a red light, he was rear ended by another vehicle traveling at about 30 mph. upon impact his vehicle was propelled into the vehicle in front of him. the consumer stated he was thrown backward, after the impact, the consumer realized he was out of his seat belt, lying across the second seat. the front seat was at a 45 degree angle and had broken brackets on both sides. the consumer sustained a serious back injury. *jb

 On our 1995 ford explorer 4 door xlt, the main vertical support of the driver's seat back broke under normal stress (leaning back). a similar problem was addressed by ford recall #03504 (nhtsa 03v281000) for model years 1998-2002. ford is saying that there is no recall in effect for our model year and is providing no help. *cb

 At 5,000 miles a popping sound is coming from steering column. dealer was notified, and replaced steering column on two separate occasions. but, problem is still reoccurring. *ak clip for upper bearing was out, dealer replaced and also retorqued bolts for lower shaft bearings, upper and lower steering shafts were replaced, lower was replaced twice , consumer states there is still problems with the steering. popping noise in right front seat. radio inoperable, dealer replaced, radio failed again, dealer replaced and repositioned wiring. console assembly replaced. *slc

 The rear seat frame locking mechanism fails to work. need to use a tool to release locking mechanism to remove or fold seat down. manufacturer gave okay to repair seat. dealership refused to repair, even under warranty.

 While driving driver's seat automatically reclined, laying the back of the seat completely down. there were no accidents. however, there was recall 03v281000 on this issue. *ak

 The drivers side seat bolt on my vehicle broke, while i was driving across a school parking lot. this caused my seat to quickly fall back to the recliced position. i was able to maintain controll by pulling myself back to the upright position. this is a scary situation. thankfully i was not traveling at highway speeds and no one was hurt.*ak

 The recliner on the drivers seat broke, which caused the seat to recline backwards, the dealer replaced the bolt. *jb

 Drivers seat collapsed while pulling over to side of the road. manufacturer was notified. *ak consumer stated while pulling into a parking space, the driver seat suddenly snapped. he was propelled backwards into the rear seat, as the back of the seat broke. passengers were in the vehicle, and could have been hurt. also consumer was about three spaces from hitting another vehicle. consumer feels that the design should be corrected, and concludes that if he were going any faster, this incident would have caused an accident and possibly a fatality. (the chair is secured w/only one screw, which was a tor-x head screw: ford part#805885-558) *scc
