	Consumer's concern over the handling by ford motor companies of the cruise control deactivation switch recall.*mr one nov 11, 2003 the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer because the brake light illuminated, brake fluid was leaking and the cruise control no longer functioned. the dealer quoted the consumer $5000 to fix the vehicle. the consumer declined the repair, purchased the part himself and replaced it himself. the consumer recently heard about the recall and contacted the manufacturer to see if he could recover the money he spent to replace the faulty parts. the manufacturer indicated that the consumer's vehicle was not included in the recall. the consumer's vehicle also experienced stall during acceleration, excessive tire wear, pulling to the right and transmission failure.

	Ford motor company offered to reimburse the consumer forty five dollars for repairs done installing the front sway bar links. ford motor company would only do this if the consumer executed and delivered a general release for any and all claims that she may have had against them. * ph *jb

	Front stablizer and sway bar have broken in the past 4 years, front tires can not be aligned and wear out faster because of this failure. ak consumer states front stabalizer links were replaced due to on going complications, both front wheels bearing hub assembly failed, the front brake pads and rotors were replaced, and the front ball joints have some play. yh

	Actually had two very similar situations although one was on ice and the other due to hydroplaning. was traveling on interstate in both instances at below speed limit and car seemed to float off to the right and then go into uncontrollable spins both instances were nearly identical with the last one resulting in car careening into ditch and striking guardrail i do not feel i was traveling at high rate of speed in either instance but am not frightened to ride in vehicle during any kind of inclement weather. thanks daniel. *ak( dot number: tire size: 15 )

	Pe00 020; consumert was traveling about 75mph on highway and felt heavy vibration inside of vehicle . he went to pull over onto the shoulders. and vehicle took a 270 degree spinn out. then, vehicle hit a road sign, and it flipped into a ditch. there were minor skratches. *ak

	Tl*the contact owns a 1995 ford explorer. the contact stated that his vehicle was previously serviced for recall 00v402000. while driving at approximately 30 mph, the contact heard a grinding noise from the front driver side wheel. the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where the contact was informed the stabilizing linkage pin broke causing the bearings in the wheel to become defective. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the failure and current mileages were approximately 127,000.

	Initial failure due to very minor dip in i-80 from bridge to aspault transition. failure resulted in uncontrollable vehicle oscillation and subsequent spin-out including tire, bumper and minor injuries from spin. vehicle was unstable and would start oscillations above 30 mph. a second spin-out occurred when taking vehicle in for inspection at around 35 mph - no damage from accident. replacement of front stabilizer link resolved stability problems.*ak( dot number: tire size: 16 )

	On june 7, 2003 the right side torsion bar broke collapsing the frame onto the right front tire. a metal inspector has inspected the part and indicated that it is a manufacturing defect. i went to my ford dealer, the parts manager at the dealership said too bad it happened now because my car is a 1995 and the warranty is up with no coverage for replacing this part. we will need to purchase both the right hand part as well as the left hand part #s f57a-bc rub & f57a-bc lub and have them installed. i can send pictures of the defective part. *jb

	The sway brace has two broken studs, which allows the bar to rotate forward and then the two studs protrude from the front of the vehicle. this requires us to manually rotate the bar back to rest on the attachment points. *ak

	The actual date and mileage is unknown. i just discovered the problem last week. both link pins that connect the front sway bar to the wheel assembly were missing. with the sway bar disconnected, the car sways severly in cornering or hard manuevers. i had the pins replaced at my expense. i contacted ford and they had issued a customer notification on 6 nov 2000 #00m11 that identified the (link pins breaking)problem for 1996-1997 ford explorers. however, the limit for mileage for ford to replace the parts was 100,000. i had at the time of discovery 102500 miles on the car. this problem, i believe, occured back in the summer because i started getting a lot sway on cornering. i figured that the shocks were bad do had them replaced in about september 2000. this didn't solve the sway problem. last week i was changing my oil and noticed that the sway bar was loose. after replacing the link pins my sway problem went away. i contacted ford customer relations, mellanie hall, and relayed my problem. i was told that ford would not pay for the repairs since my car was 2500 miles past their limit. i believe that this is a safety issue and may have been a contributing problem to the tire problem causing roll overs. this car, with out the sway bar attached, would definitely be unstable in hard turns and i am convinced that it could lead to a roll over. mellanie hall for ford, did not agree. i believe that this time of failure should be added to your investigation on tires and roll overs. i also believe that this should be safety recall and not be limited to a certain number of miles, consequently i should be reimbursed.

	While driving on 93 south, a major massachusetts highway, at 55 miles an hour on 11-1998, i swerved to avoid hitting a car that was going to come into my lane.my suv felt like it was going to tip over on its side.it felt like i was riding on two wheels.had i not been calm and steered correctly, the suv would have tipped over on its side.the second time, 8-2000 was on 95 south, in massachusetts.upon getting off the exit ramp, my suv again felt like it would tip over. i was going about 25 miles an hour.both times the sway bar links had to be replaced.i was charged for the first repair.i have replaced the five original tires which were part of the recent recall, with the same type of tire about a year ago.the cid sensor is a part that should last the life of the suv, according to the mechanic that worked on it.it had to be replaced on my suv.( dot number: tire size: p235/75/15 )

	Since leasing the vehicle, have had persistent problems with the front end, which resulted in wearing out several sets of expensive tires. reported same to seller ( r. brown & sons, inc. ) but no resolution. involved in a crash in august, 1998, front end impact causing $2500 in damages, buckled hood, shattered bumper brackets, etc. but neither air bag deployed. took vehicle to a different garage because front tires again seriously worn. mechanic discovered right front stabilizer missing -- and no indication that it had ever been present. it is my belief that the vehicle was in a front end collision prior to our leasing it, a fact the seller did not divulge at the time. the salesman involved was terminated from employment at brown's shortly after we leased the vehicle. thank you for your time and consideration. *ak
