| My radio lost all the lights to it..the display lights for the radio no longer works. apparently ford knew of this defect as hundreds of owners complained as early as 2001 (one year after the car was sold). i complained and they said i would have to pay for a new radio. seems they should have replaced the radio back when they saw the problem in 2001 while still under warranty. | |||

| When i bought my 2000 ford explorer xlt 4dr the radio display on the mach rds cd/tape radio did not light up. the dealer said he fixed it and indeed it worked for about five minutes after i drove off his lot. i did some research into this problem and have discovered that it is a common problem with this type of oem radio. supposedly, fixes are available from technicians advertising on ebay or at this internet site: http://www.shareamemory.com/radio/ (the radio pictured at this site is exactly the one i have). i am a qualified electronics technician and discovered the details of the suggested do-it-yourself repair from an internet news group. i followed the procedure to reflow the solder joints on the smt resistors and common grounds on the diplay driver board but it did not fix the problem. i quess i will be sending my radio off for questionable repairs from one of those ebay technicians gettting rich off of ford's poor quality radio. this is a known common problem, yet the ford motor company refuses to recognize it as such and make the neceassary repairs free of charge (or even at a reasonable cost). | |||

| The display on my ford explorer radio quit working, the radio/cd/tape all is working properly, but the display light is gone. after informing my mechanic, i was directed to a specialty shop, that works on radios for vehicles. three seconds into my phone call with them, they let me know they work on up to five ford explorers a day, for this same problem. they said it would cost $125.00 to fix this, they also said ford was aware of this problem and has issued a kit to fix these radios. this to me should be a recall. but, as i was informed this problem is not a danger to the consumer, so we should pay out of our pockets. i've never experienced any problems like this before, and maybe i'm informing the wrong people. if so, please direct me in the right direction with this complaint. thank you for your time. *la | |||

| This exlorer/eddie bauer was leased brand new. i have had nothing but problems beginning with the first week of having it (ie. stalling, shutting off, engine failure, excessive wind noise, window/radio replacement, inaccurate fuel readings etc..). i have been bounced back and forth between the service and sales dept. of the dealship. their favorite answer to a problem is, we are unable to duplicate consumer concern. hello!!!!, this is why you get paid the big bucks! i am not an engineer or savy with vehicle terminology. however, i think i'm smart enough to know there is a major problem here. i am a single parent who is concerned for myself and child's safety. this has been a nightmare for me and i am reaching out to whomever will listen to my concerns. *ak | |||
