I was traveling on i 69 near indianapolis, in, when left rear tire blew out at the area where tread meets sidewall. i nearly lost control of vehicle but was able to slow and get off road, nearly rear ended by a large semi truck following too closley. these tires were replacement by ford motor because of the problem with firestone original equipment tires. i was afraid to drive with these general tires because of the blowout. i requested the ford dealer who replaced the firestone tires with general tires to replace all 4 tires with new tires, but they refused. i was told that if they replaced tires in these situations they would have to go out of business. it seems they are more concerned with their finances than the safety of myself and my family. i have since purchased 4 new michelin tires at my own expense and feel much safer. i was disappointed with the way i was treated in this matter, it was not through any fault of my own. the dealer even sugguested that i may have caused damage to the tires when parallel parking by hitting the curb, but i do not parallel park this vehicle and i am the only driver. i think ford should reimburse me for the $600 i spent so i may drive a safe vehicle.*ak

I strongly disagree with ford's actions on blameing firestone for the rolling over of the ford explorer. i know on my truck if you hit a bump or are on a rough road the truck is so bouncey that if fills like the rear wheels are comeing off of the ground. the wilderness tires may have some kind of defect but i have not experienced any problems with my firestone tires. i have had my firestone tires for a year and the only problem i have experienced has been keeping the weights on the wheels. the suspension on the 2 door explorer is so stiff that i could see why the truck would roll over when the tire lost air pressure. ford has been blameing firestone and vis versa and nothing has been done to correct the problem except to replace the tires which i dont believe cause the vehicle to roll over. if i have a cd playing in my cd player and i drive down a ruff road or hit a bump over 50 miles per hour the cd will come out of the cd player and the truck will bounce, it fills like the back wheels come off the ground. *ak (tiresize: p235/75r15)

I recently read in the papers about the new 'unofficial' recall that ford will need to do to replace even more tires for ford explorers. i own an explorer and my tires were not part of the recall from last august. however, after hearing that possibly more of the tires are affected. i contacted a ford dealership and they explained that since there is no official recall they would change my tires for me but i was liable for the cost of mounting, balancing, and the cost for the 4 tires (plus spare) also. i find this ridiculous and i'm sure i am not the only one. i have checked my tires and although i am unsure of what i am looking for and do not consider myself qualified to say if the tires should be changed or not, i do have an uneasy feeling about driving on the tires i currently have. i do alot of traveling in my explorer and do not want to be a part of the statistics on ford's recall papers in the future. so, what are my next steps? i was asked to fill out this complaint form. so who can i contact to get the service i am entitiled to? i would appreciate any follow up that you can offer to me. i love my suv but i always have an uneasy feeling about the tires i am riding on.*ak

My vehicle was delivered with firestone wilderness at tires and i was advised that because they were not manufactured at firestone's decatur plant they are considered safe. the recent govindjee report states that the wilderness at tires were equally problematic regardless of the plant in which they were manufactured in, meaning all plants including decatur , joliette, quebec, & wilson, nc. my wife and i continue to be concerned about the safety of our vehicle and the lack of objective evidence that only the decatur tires are at risk. i believe it is time for either ford or firestone come forward and take responsibility for all wilderness ats and responsibly recall & replace. how many more deaths need to occur? it appears that the govindjee report raises enough question for the nhtsa to take the lead and demand an immediate recall of all wilderness ats. based on this report it is clear to me i need to buy non-firestone replacements. the unfortunate situation is that the unsuspecting purchaser must pay the price, when ford/firestone is responsible.*ak (tiresize: p235/75r15)( dot number: tire size: p235/75r15 )

I was traveling on rt 7 at approx 40mph, that was below the posted speed limit because we had just expierenced a snow storm and the roads were not very clear. as i slowed down to better hear what was going on i had started to hear the sound a flat tire makes, so i pulled off at the next exit and saw that my tire was flat and called aaa. they had told me to report the problem because it was a firestone tire and it may be one of the recalled tires. i had my tires checked some time ago when the recall first happened but i was informed my tires were not part of the recall even though they were the wilderness ats. i feel there must be some kind of defect for this to happen because i am positive i did not hit anything in the snow so i don't know what else could have caused this to happen. *ak (dot number: w2hl tiresize: p235 75r15)

While traveling on the freeway, i noticed a slight vibration. a short time later, i felt the vibration again and the tire blew. i was traveling at 60mph. fortunately, no one was injured. i contacted ford roadside assistance and they came to exchange the tire with the spare. i then drove the vehicle to a ford dealer near where i work (magic ford, valencia, ca). i requested that all five tires be replaced along with the rim on which the tire blew. it was damaged beyond repair. i have received a bill for $1,020.00 from magic ford, and do not feel that i should be obligated to have to pay. although the exact model of tire is not on the recall list, it is obvious that this is clearly a manufacturer's defect. i am in possession of the tire and all surrounding paperwork. *ak (dot number: vncu1px080 tiresize: p255/70r16)

I need some assistance. i have contacted bridgestone/firestone on several occasions and other than a list of faqs i can get no one to respond. i live in germany, the driving conditions here are vastly different to the us (speed wise) and i need to know how this affects the tires on my car. i have been told by the local aafes garage that they're ok, but they'd recommend changing them anyway! i drive approximately 45 highway miles each day to and from work at speeds seldom less than 90 mph. are these tires safe, is there any type of plan in place to take into account the different driving conditions? many of us are concerned that the safety of our families and ourselves is in serious jeopardy. this is the exact concern i have expressed to the tire company, followed by two more requests that they either answer our questions or put us in touch with someone who can. i feel that because we are overseas serving our country, we're out of sight, out of mind. please help.

The 2 tires on the back of my ford explorer sport where the side walls, and were the tread of the tires meets, started looking funny. if i would have kept those tires on my explorer sport in about 3 to 5 months they would have started to separate. therefore i feel it is best to have them replaced. so i went up to goodyear's tire and order 5 new tires for my explorer sport and had the firestone wilderness at taking off. i will take the wilderness at tires up to firestone this weekend (09/30/00).*ak (dot number: 8xhl359 tiresize: 235/r75/15)

Had my tires checked at firestone but did not feel comfortable, did not see the tires myself. i felt very unsafe driving my own new vehicle, so i went to a place that my son knows the people very well. goodyear. while the truck was up on the mount, i inspected the tires myself and had notice something on the sidewall facing the inside truck. it was on all the tires sidewall. and outer wall. looks like cracking and peeling. also the outer wall on the outside of the truck is turning a funny color. when i asked someone to look at them, a good friend, they said it was the belts ready to give way. the gentlemen at goodyear, was very concerned for my safety and that of my family. they replaced my tires of course i paid for them. they took the time to mark the reciept of the purchase with the damage of the tires. i then went to firestone and showed them, they told me it was heat damage and could not do anything about it. i then took them to where i had purchased the truck and was told that it was tire dressing and mold. so i preceeded to go to the corporate store where i was told that it was rubberized paint. my tires were and still are unsafe and have defaults. i believe that i am entitled to reimbursement for the 5 tires. i was not about to put firestone tires back on my truck. i would not have felt any better.*ak( dot number: 8xhl tire size: p235/75r15 )

I own a new ford explorer with the brand description of the currently recalled firestone tire, although it did not have the code on the inside of the tire stating that it came specifically from the distribution location currently in question. two weeks ago my right rear tire came completely apart. after much misinformation from ford and firestone, channel 4 news took the story and helped get ford to pay attention to my case. they agreed to pick up the car and replace all four tires for me. the day after the story aired on tv ford (don mclean specifically) called and said that they had changed their minds and were no longer going to replace my tires because they did not come from that specific location. still the tire seperated from my car and essentially making us aware that the problem does not exist solely with the illinois plant. i am a single mother of two little girls and ford and firestone have gone back on their word leaving once again to drive a car with defective tires. i would appreciate your assistance and sincerely hope that you will take this seriously. people with that brand tire, with the code or not, should not drive their car. sincerely, tammy haladwala. *ak( dot number: tire size: p23575r15s )

All three tires, at 26 psi, dismounted in a side collision, causing the car to almost tip over. since then i have received a card from ford sayimg i should keep the tires at 30 psi, cold pressure. i comtacted ford to ask which was the correct cold tire pressure and got an answer saying that a range of 26 to 30 psi is correct. my problem is that i would like the door saftety placard to indicate a correct pressure. 26 pounds - or 30 pounds - or a range of 26 to 30 psi. i am communicating with fmc by e-mail. so far, they do not seem to be willing to supply me waith a correct placard. these tires are not part of the recall. ford has not admitted that the instantaneous dismnounting from the rim of these tires is in any way related to the tire pressure placard on the driver's door. i think that there is a huge diference between a cold 26 psi and a cold 30 psi inflation. i told ford that i would be writing you.( dot number: ? tire size: p23575r15 )

While firestone and even your investigation does not mention the w2 firestone wilderness at tires, three of the four tires on our explorer began to crack radially on the sidewall of the tire at the base of the tread! the firestone dealer here looked at them and said they could do nothing. the cracks range from approx 1/8 to 3/4long and are worrysome to say the least. we replaced the tires on our own as we could no longer drive the car with any sense of confidence. this is the fourth explorer we've had and have been quite satisfied them as a whole. we have retained the tires should anyone wish to inspect them. the cracks are very obvious. thanks mark sanderson. *ak( dot number: w2 tire size: 235/75r15 )

We were on a drive, which is 90 miles one way, to my parents for dinner. it was 1pm on the 6th of march and the weather was between 95 degrees or higher. 10 miles into the drive, i noticed that the truck was not handling as crisp when changing from lane to lane and asked my wife if the ride felt different, especially since she drives it during the week. she did notice also that it seemed to be swaying when i changed from lane to lane but she thought that i was doing it. i, from past experience, thought i should stop and check the tires and just in time because when i pulled to the side of the road, the air rushed out of the tire. i examined the tire and noticed that it looked as if it had separated inside the tire but did not think anything of it. i put on the spare and continued on the trip. i let my father take a look at it and he immediately said that there was a problem with the tire. i asked him if he thought something might have punctured the tire but he, like i did, did not think so,,,,, especially since i stopped as soon as i noticed the problem. my father has 2 18 wheelers and changes the tires on them himself and if pretty knowledgable about anything that has to deal with a vehicle. i had my wife the next morning to take the tire to a local firestone dealer. i called and spoke with someone who told me they looked at the tire and that something punctured it. i asked the guy that i was driving and i know for a fact that i did not run over anything in the road. i am positive. nevertheless, it did not matter because i needed a new tire and they were not going to replace, although the dealer said that it should be covered under the road hazard warranty. although the guy running the desk said that the had a hole in it and puncture inside, the mechanic who changed the tire wrote on the work order ran flat-inside chewed up indicating that this was not just a hole puncture but something really did happen to this tire. contact me if you need more

Suv began to weave and could not be controlled, it was raining and intially i felt that it was hydroplaning but the rt front tire would not grab the pavement. the suv rolled down a 25ft embankment in a densely vegetated area, felled several trees, and flipped. the driver nor passenger air bags deployed, the suv was totalled. due to the media coverage regarding the firestone/explorer tire i learned that one of the first problems experienced is that the tire will lose air. i had been experiencing this loss of air on the rt front tire for several months before the accident and had asked about it when the tires were rotated and was told by crossroad ford, that they found no problems. so, i then went to the salvage yard where the car was being stored to view the tire and the cracks and peeling rubber of the rt front tire was obvious.*ak( dot number: tire size: p235/75r15 )

After issue of recall alert, i checked my tires for problems, i put the recomended amount of pressure in the tires (that was reassigned to 30 psi by firestone) and noticed half inch slits on the side walls just out side the writing on the tire, on 2 of my tires. after seeing the slits i thought that i should refill the tires up to the their normal capacity, and drove 3.5 miles to a gas station to do so. while filling the tires back up to normal capacity, i noticed that the other 2 tires were starting to shows signs of the same splitting. in a conversation with a friend who also has an explorer that was at the same gas station, i found out that she has the recalled tires with the vd code and that her tires are doing the same as mine, but that mine do not have the vd code. i have subsequently switched vehicles with my roommate because he only has a 6 mile round trip drive to work, and i have a 70 mile round trip to work daily. i do not feel safe driving my vehicle long distances, since i live in the florida keys and it is a warm climate. but as of yet, i can get no responses back about my tires, other than to take them to a corporate-owned firestone dealer, but to do so would mean a drive of 110 miles one way. which i do not feel safe doing so. i have submitted a claim to ford via email and have called firestone's toll free number, but to only be told that my tires are do not have the correct dot code for the recall. meanwhile, my tires do show signs of malfunction that appear similar to tires with the vd dot code. because of my situation, this has prompted me to contact your organization. i have also left a message at your toll free number, to the same affect, but decided to also email, so that i could give a more indepth summary of my situation. *ak( dot number: w2hl1py299 tire size: p235/75r15 )

Bought a set of continantal tires for my 2000 ford ranger. after using the tires for sometime (approx 40% ware) i noticed a slight shaking with the vehicle. i took the vehicle into the same shop i got the tires and had them rotated and the front end aligned. the vehicle immediately started to get worse. i was waiting for my next day off but the day before my day off i was traveling at 75 mph on i-95 in palm bay, florida and the tread on the right rear tire seperated. although i was able to maintain control of the vehicle it did turn sideways on the road three times and at one point i was up on only two tires. upon checking i found that all tires were inflated but the tire tread on the right rear side had seperated from the tire. that same day i returned to the tire shop and had the manager look at the tire. he said that the tire shoulg not have done what it did with that short amount of miles on it. he said that firestone would replace the tires and repair the damage done to the right rear area of my truck bed. i was instructed to call the the firestone clames officer which i did on the morning of 06-27-05. also on that date i was contacted by the tire dealer that firestone would not handle the clame as the tires were continantal. i had to call contintal and they were not very helpful. after a very long conversation they finally agreed to cover a new set of tires with a 60% discount. i got firestone tires. they are also insisting that i send them the defective tire for their examination to see if they would fix the damage to my truck. i do not think that i should send the evidence of their defective tire to them and loose custody of it. i asked if someone in florida could check the tire and they said no> i feel that the tire was defective, i feel that my life and safety was in question and i feel that contential tire company is attempting to conceal this by taking, or attempting, to take possession of the tire.

I currently drive a 2000 ford explorer 6 cyl. 2 wheel drive w/ goodyear wrangler rt/s tires. i was recently notified by midas of orland park after having my front brakes replaced that the front passenger tire has a belt that has shifted. my tires were replaced due to the recall of the firestone tires. at that time i had roughly 16,000 miles on the suv. at the present time i have just under 40,000 miles on the suv. i did not notice that the tire was bad mainly due to the fact that the ford explorer is a very rough ride. i do not go off roading with this vehicle nor do intentially hit large bumps or pot holes at a rapid speed. i am not only disappointed with the performance of the vehicle but also with the performance of the tires. since the explorer rides rough (a side to side wobbling motion) i can see were many accidents occured. the owner of the vehicle is unable to detect a default in the tire. the question i pose is, is ford at fault because of there inadequate engineering and unstabe suspension or is goodyear at fault for the manufacturing of faulty tires?

After contacting 4 retailers i was told it would be spring before the tires could be replaced. the waiting list is over 247 customers. i have been told that i can purchase the tires myself and then get reimbursed in 6 to 8 weeks. this will probably take much longer and i will carry the interest on cedit for at leased 3 to 4 months. also what kind of replacement can you get for $100.00 including mounting and balancing. each company involved is blaming the other for the problem. what this amounts to is that the end user is getting the shaft. i believe firestone should be held accountable. i would never purchase one of their products. maybe their future will prove to be as short lived as their customers rolling down our highways.*ak( dot number: vd tire size: 235 )

How many must die before nhtsa steps up to this disaster? this is unexcusable! no safety defect listed within summary. *ak( dot number: )
As i have a vehicle equipped with firestone wilderness at tires i am concerned that i might encounter a problem int he future. i understand that firestone is planning on announcing a limited recall to owners of the tires located in southern areas. my present driving habits are mainly travelling on the highway at speeds between 55 - 65 mph for extended periods of time. this along with what i consider a lower tire pressure stated by the manufacturer of 26 lbs, i beleive this can cause the tires to have more stress on the sidewalls while travelling and with highway speeds could possibly cause the heating& buldging of the tires causing more stress on the sidewalls. presently my vehicle has only 7750 miles on the odemeter, i hope the nhtsa persues firestone in the recalling of all wilderness at tires in all regions of the country not just the southern parts. *ak( dot number: )

I amd concerened about the firestone wilderness tires on my ford explorer. there was an article in my newspaper today (8/4/00) about 21 deaths and 193 crashes with these tires involved. i have thes tires on my ford explorer and i sure don't want to have these tires fail. what's it going to take and how many more people are going to have to die before something is done? these tires need to be recalled! the atricle said ford was replacing these tires free in 6 other countries. does that mean that they're not doing that in the u.s. that's outrageous and ridiculous. i called ford's customer service 800 number and they said i'd have to call firestone. i did and didn't get any satisfaction from them. who can i call at ford to find out why we can't get them replaced here? *ak( dot number: tire size: p235/75 r1 )

On june 12,2000 i was traveling home from dallas to pearland. the weather was clear no rain, cement road in good condition. my right front tire thread separated from the rim with no warning. both sidewalls were still intact on rim. the dealership stated the tires and rim where not covered under warranty. the firestone dealership was reluctant to replace the tire with no cost. eventually the manager could not find any reason to cause the tire to separate and replaced it still charging me for balance and valve stem. he refused to say it was a defective tire but listed unknown reason for failure. it is only because of previous extensive driving classes (police officer training) is why i did not have a wreck and was able to control my vehicle. on the news is a lot of reports of failures of these same tires. both ford and firestone refuse to exchange my tires for safe tires and i cannot afford to change out new tires on a new vehicle. i can go into better detail about this incident if you wish to contact me. do i have a legal course of action at this time? *ak( dot number: tire size: 23575r15 )

My new vehicle has the firestone tires that have caused numerous deaths and a magnitude of accidents. with serious injury. i contacted my local ford dealer that sold me the car and they didn't even know about the problem. the next day the dealer called me and said that they are giving out firestones phone number for inquires. i now have two numbers for firestone to which both remain busy all the time. so i am unable to contact them. on the front page of the usa today newspaper dated 8/2/2000 it reports that 31 people have been killed by these tires bursting. it reports that in 6 other countries ford motor co recalled the tires. i need assistance imediately as i am afraid to use my vehicle. i can not take the chance of having my grad kids killed by faulty tires. i am also in the process of taking my mother each day for radiation 50 miles away. i need my vehicle imediately. i need to know what is going to be done for the citizens of the united states about these tires. does ford motor co care more about citizens of other countries than american citizens??? please contact me imediately, as there is no way that i will ever get firestone on the telephone ,,, and the booklet that came with the car does not give an address for firestone. thank you. *ak( dot number: tire size: 15 inch )
