As i was closing the back door window of my 2000 ford explorer the window exploded spreading shattered glass into the vehicle, over and under the vehicle, over and under my second car parked next to it, on me, the driveway and throughout the garage. we have found glass particles as far as 25-30 ft from the vehicle. we are shocked and stunned that something like this could happen and don't think ford realizes the seriousness of this incident. this isn't a warranty issue !! it's a safety issue. i could have been blinded and if this had happened in a crowded parking lot it would have resulted in injuries to others as well. *jb

The ford explorer was parked in our driveway at the time of the incident. the rear window was open and we were standing behind the vehicle when without warning the window exploded throwing glass fragments over 10 feet in all directions. the entire back window broke into pieces no larger than 1/4 inch in size. there were no previous mars or cracks in the back window and nothing hit the window before it broke. my biggest concern is that if the window had broken while we were driving on the freeway, our animals that are contained in the back of the vehicle could have been hurt by flying glass not to mention possibly jumping out of the vehicle. *ak

Shortly after purchasing the vehicle the left rear window began leaking during the rain. after two repairs the luggage rack was replaced and the seals around the windows were replaced. the tail light casings began to collect water after the second repair. after close inspection the case surrounding the tail lights were rusted. i have had the vehicle at the dealership 4 times for the leaking and it has not been fixed. water is gettiing into the electrical system of the vehicle through the tail lights. i have also taken the truck in 3 times for a grinding noise when braking. the dealer reported that it was an issue with the rotors and the problem was fixed. the brakes continue to grind during braking at slow speeds as well as fast braking. the lights and windows in the back of the vehicle are leaking to the point that the vehicle smells musty because of the water leaks. the dealer will not do anything about the water damage or the leaking. i am concerned that this will short out the electrical system on the vehicle and possibly result in a fire. i have asked for a representative from ford to inspect the vehicle and the dealer refuses. i have also contacted the customer assistance center for ford motor company. please provide assistance with this issue.

My 2000 ford explorer's passenger-side rear power window shudders when it is rolled down. yet ford has instructed me through our local dealer that it is a common problem in explorers, hence it is deemed normal. i had followed the proper channel to complain to ford's vp of customer relations but they just notified me by mail the matters considered closed. following are more details. 1. first visit on may 7, 2003. dealer claimed weather strip was too brittle. part ordered. 2. second visit on june 4, 2003. weather strip replaced. problem persisted. 3. third visit on september 12, 2003. lubed regulator. problem persisted. 4. last visit on october 22, 2003. dealer contacted ford technical assistance and was told to check for loose bolt, which was replaced. problem was still there when i picked up the car. 5. service representative was instructed by ford to inform me that the shuddering is common to all explorers and is considered normal. hence, though problem is not fixed, ford will not authorize any more repairs. indeed, an examination of other explorers in dealer's lot prove that many have the same shuddering problem, while some shake even more violently than mine does. in all cases, the problem seemed to be confined to the rear windows. even the dealer representative admits the operation of those shuddering windows is not normal. i submit to you that an ill-fitted window that binds can shatter and seriously injure any passenger sitting next to it. if all explorers have a loose bolt in the seat-belt assembly, they wouldn't consider that normal just because it happens with high frequency. be it a quality or design oversight, ford cannot be allowed to use a low standard as excuse to renege on a warranty repair. *la

For approximately two weeks prior to december 5th, 2004, the heat element in my 2000 ford explorer driver seat would become painfully hot under the left leg near the torso to the point where it needed to be manually turned off each time. it was turned off as it became painful, and we were concerned we would become burned and would the seat catch on fire. my other concern for this is someone, such as a diabetic, with neuropathy wouldn't feel the intensity of the heat and become burned. 2) approx 2 weeks after the initial event the seat light will come on but no heat is produced. why did it take 2 weeks for the element (assumed) to burn out? 3) the car is scheduled to go to an independant mechanic as i do not trust ford to do the right thing. the dealer is not concerned that my driver airbag light goes on and off at will for days or weeks at a time. they recalled the 98 and 99 models for a tensioner pulley problem and issued a service bulletin for the '00 but the dealer wants to charge $500 for the repair......most defects i took in for warranty repair remain unfixed, (mostly electrical in nature) including a rear wiper that rarely goes on, radio stations and clock display that occasionally can be seen and a rear passenger door handle that after 5 attempts (ford went against their engineer recommendations to do a recall) will unlock with power lock but the unsuspecting or in a hurry will just about rip a hand off to get it open.*ak

The first time i had a problem is when my car wouldn?t start on my way to work, and the check engine light came on. it was a few days after i gotten it. so i took it in and they said they checked the engine and turned off the light. they told me i should have it serviced. so i did. the other time i took it in, it had died on me while driving down my uncles apartment hill. they said they were getting some weird codes from the computer or something. they said they would get me an appointment with ford. then they call later that day and tell me they will bring someone in to look at the car who specializes in ford models. i needed a car so i had to rent a car while they had my car in the shop so that i could take my son to the sitters and have a way to work. only to find out when i got my car back, that unfortunately they didn?t have the tools to fix the problem so they will be sending my car to ford. so far its been about a week, they have not called me with a confirmed date on when i can take my car in to fix. yesterday, (nov. 11) the engine would lug, once in a while my car will die out. when i started it up again about 5 minutes later, my check engine light wouldn?t go off. i called it in when i got to work. they told me that i could still drive it if it doesn?t seem different from before. i am still driving it, mostly because if i take it in, i won?t have any way to work and back home. they said they don?t give out loaners. i?ve been told that the car has multiple problems, and most of them different every time i go in. one time it was some kind of code stating that it thinks it?s a stolen car, now it some kind of timer. the first time it was cause i needed a service. it seems like the longer i drive my car the worse it?s getting. but really i have no choice. they won?t give me a loaner. i am paying major bucks to rent a car since i?m only 19. it cost me $65 the time i rented one cause i wouldn?t have a way to work.
