The radiator leaks on almost all 2006 models from the factory. ford acknowledges the issue was from overtightening, yet does not issue a recall. *tr

I have been having some misfiring spark plugs on my truck. we are pricing them out and are finding out that they are very hard to replace and they break off inside the engine! dealers do not recommend replacing them yourself and it costs $300 to have them do it, then $100 for every spark plug that breaks during that process, plus the $19 for each motorcraft brand plug! this could cost us up to $1500 just to replace spark plugs?! this is insanity!!! not only does it build up carbon but it is also a 2 piece plug and it breaks apart! this needs to be recalled! people are spending a fortune just to replace spark plugs! its sick!

The vehicle has harsh upshifts when accelerating from 1st to 4th gear, creating momentary loss of control. the vehicle will stall, then jerk forward a few inches unannounced, which has the potential of causing a wreck or hitting a pedestrian. the same will occur when shifting from drive to reverse, and vice-versa. also, sometimes the rpm will increase drastically on its own without an increase in speed. i'm afraid this will cause an accident if the speed decides to increase.

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 ford explorer eddie bauer edition. the contact was driving approximately 45 mph when the check engine warning light illuminated. the contact then realized that the vehicle had overheated as it proceeded to stall. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they advised her that the radiator and thermostat failed. the vehicle was repaired but the check engine warning light was illuminated again after two weeks. the vehicles was taken back to the independent mechanic where they informed the contact that the head gasket was blown and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was contacted but offered no assistance to the contact. the failure mileage was approximately 84,000. kmj

This 2006 explorer eddie baurer car started making roaring sound when trying to accelerate. tried backing off the accelerator as much as possible. thermostat gauge temperature went to hot and displayed red and a/c started blowing cold air. thermostat then went from hot to cold multiple times. checked coolant levels and they were fine. the engine and car finally shut down completely and the car then overheated. coolant blew out at the hose at the thermostat. towed the car to a nationwide repair shop where they replaced thermostat and pressure tested cooling system but car will no longer idle and engine now has major problems. towed the car to the ford dealership and they are now saying it may have a blown head gasket ($2200 or more) and or engine needs to be replaced ($5600). they are going to check with ford to see if they can provide assistance. this vehicle has 68,000 miles on it (less than 15,000/year) and should not need a new thermostat and engine. there appears to be a major problem with this year/make with radiators/thermostat issues. please issue a recall.

We purchased our 2006 explorer used with 61,000 in summer 2009. the dealership did a complete inspection and replaced everything we found as defective or as a recalled item. the coolant system wasn't one of these issues. drove vehicle all summer and into the fall without issue. by late fall of 2009 vehicle had anti-freeze leak, just after the first frost in ne. local auto service providor replaced radiator twice in one month with napa parts without remedy and then eventually they had to replace with an authorized ford radiator to get it not to fail. also replaced the water pump, all hoses, pullies, and fluid to make sure there were no other issues. still leaked but minor and finally was corrected in spring of 2010. by late fall 2010, again after the first frost the vehicle was leaking anti-freeze again. took it to ford dealership this time where they went through the entire cooling system and replaced the thermostat and upper intake housing they said was leaking. they also flushed the entire system again and added what they deemed was the correct antifreeze for the vehicle assuring that this would stop the problem. vehicle still leaked and we had to periodically tighten the hose clamps but by spring of 2011 the leak again stopped. just brought vehicle back to ford dealership fall 2011, again after the first frost. was told the now 2 year old ford radiator was failing at the joints between aluminum and plastic. this was the same failure as originally noted in fall of 2009. there appears to be an ongoing problem with 2006 explorer radiators with over 50k miles. along with environmental issues, this condition affects the transmission and the safety of the occupants if the engin runs out of coolant.

While driving the vehicle, the smell of antifreez started coming into the car. my fiance' checked the radiator and overflow bottle and found out it was gas mixed with the antifreeze. my car's milage is 80100. i do not believe the car should have this issue at only 5 years. this problem/complaint should be investigated and damages should be covered by the dealership or manufacturer.

Engine stalls. stalls whenever it feels like it, hot or cold, slowing down to stop, turning left or right, on the street roads and freeways. starts and go again after 5/10 minutes but this is ridiculous. i paid so much money and time for diagnostic and parts already and yesterday was the worst. my 2006 ford explorer stalled in the middle of the freeway. date: nov 1, 2011, time:1550, and my wife was driving, when she's not happy, nobody's happy....she almost got ran over as she open her door, she could not go anywhere but wait for time to either cool off or reset on the engine.

My 2006 ford explorer has 44,000 miles on it and needs a new radiator, after checking complaints online for the same problem, i have found many complaints about this issue.i believe ford needs to recall this vehicle for the radiator issue.the leak from the radiator can seep into the ground and into the underground water system, not to mention any animals that would drink from the puddles left behind from this very toxic anti-freeze.the replacement of this item cost almost $1200 at a ford dealer, these trucks are only 5 years old and i know people who have replaced 3 or more radiators since they purchased their explorers.it seems to be a bigger problem for the 2006 model when ford changed the radiator to plastic.i wonder how many accidents where caused when the radiator failed and seized the engines while people where driving?

This vehicle constantly overheats. i have to add coolant every few days. it first started during a day trip. prior to leaving i had my oil changed and all my fluids were filled. after leaving the highway the car completely shut off. i had to go to a gas station and add more coolant it was only a three hour trip and it was completely dry. shortly after the transmission became shifting hard. it jerks and seems to miss gears. at the time it only had 40,000 miles. now i have to be extrememly careful with the transmission and must keep coolant in my vehicle. i have 4 small children and i am afraid this vehicle is a fire danger because of the radiator. i am fiancing this vehicle and don't have the money to get a new one. this vehicle today has 54,000 miles and if built correctly i should be able to get 100,000 without any major repairs. ford should be responsible and recall these vehicles and show they stand by their products. their saying should be ford flimsy not ford tough!

2006 ford explorer - radiator failure - vehicle has 70,000 miles on it. this is the fourth time the radiator has had to be replaced. ford motor company has refused to offer any assistance regarding the repair of this problem. however, in april 2009 they issued a tsb regarding radiator leaks occurring in certain 2006 explorers made before 8/8/2006. it should be noted that it is not a leak in the radiator but a complete failure of the part. they are currently on their fourth design of radiators for this specific vehicle. my question is this, with all of the complaints registered regarding this problem, why hasn't nhtsa launched an invesitgation regarding this problem and why hasn't the ford motor company stepped up and acknowleged there is a problem and done something to assist the owners of all vehicles that are subject to the problem. this vehicle needs to be put on the recall list and fmc be held responsible for the problem. they either come up with a definite solution for the problem or buy back all the vehicles and see that everyone is compensated for all of the repairs they have had to pay for and that they are freed from any loans on the problem vehicles. it makes sense to me if fmc identified there could be issues effecting vehicles manufactured before a certain point in time, then it clearly has recognized there is a problem and they should stand by its product and do something about it. my guess is, they know there is a problem but they don't have a certain idea what is causing it or if the tsb and fourth redesign of the radiator will really correct the problem.

About 3 weeks ago, while returning from the park with my dog, my warning light for temperature illuminated red and i saw that the temp. gauge had spiked to hot. i pulled over and as i was going to shift into park, the temp. gauge fell back into the normal operating range very quickly. i thought it was just an anomaly. about 3 weeks later, i noticed that the fan was running loudly and shrtly thereafter, the temp spiked again. i did soe research on-line and found out that this model explorer has been having issues with radiators failing. i brought my truck in to my mechanic who found that my radiator was indeed compromised and was leaking from the bottom of the unit. a new radiator, thermostat ad water pump were installed costimg me close to $1000.

I have a 2006 ford explorer and recently had work done. after that work i noticed that colling fan was coming on constantly and that it was extremely loud and sounded like engine was roaring. they determined that radiator was leaking so they replaced entire colling system. problem still persists and vehicle only has 60000 miles on it. i am so upset and think they dont know what wrong. they had car ffor 5 days and they cant fix it. now i read all this bad info and ask wht is there no recalls and how does ford have the ordasisty to charge all these people for a known defect... this needs to stop and shame on ford...

Developing coolant leak below ford explorer 2006 radiator. my mechanic has declared the radiator defective and is failing. this is the second failed radiator. the first fail was in oct 2009, aprox 48k mileage, and was considered a problem known by ford. now i face a second replacement of excess $800 estimate march 24th 2011. my estimated mileage was 24k between repairs. this needs to be solved or our future cars will never be ford!

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford explorer. the contact stated that the radiator was replaced june of 2008, but the failure was not corrected. the vehicles coolant level was low. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test which determined that the failure was located in the radiator seal and caused the engine coolant to leak. report 1320050701 was filed with the manufacturer and they will not assist with the repairs, because the vehicle warranty expired. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 62,000 and the current mileage was 105,000.

I began noticing a coolant smell after use, then noticed a leak that progressively became worse. i added coolant to keep desired levels. i had a mechanical shop inspect and it was determined the radiator was leaking. i purchased this vehicle as a demo from a local ford dealer w/ 11k miles on it. at 30k miles the radiator was replaced w/ oem by ford under warranty as it was leaking in a seam. i had the radiator replaced again, so the vehicle is on its' third radiator. milleage at last replacement was 73k. so 3 radiators in 73k miles. the mechanical shop contacted ford about parts and was told there had been problems with these radiators and anupgraded radiator is available because of the issues. i went with the upgraded oem version, parts/labor was about $800.

Car radiator ran hot, light never came on. radiator drained of all fluids while on highway, blew head gasket on engine, damaged engine had to replace engine and radiator. this is the third redaitor on car, first at 33,000 miles, second at 67,000 miles, last incident vehicle had 87,000 miles. i had extended warrantee, if not cost would have been over $ 7000.00 dollars.

Noticed leaking under 2006 explorer. taken to dealer and told radiator needed replacing for $980. vehicle has 65,000 miles on it. told radiator was leaking from the fins and that this was common. in checking this out, this is not common for a car of this age, however, it seems 2006 explorers are prone to this problem. this is clearly a ford problem and ford should replace the radiators at no charge.

Radiators on 2006 ford explorers. my first radiator was replaced at 37,318 miles. i now need a new one at approximately 65,000 miles. this will be the third replacement on just my vehicle. ford has offered no help as to the cost of replacing an obviously defective part. checking on line, i see other ford explorer owners are experiencing the same thing from ford. i request a recall for this defective vehicle.

Noticed low coolant level and shortly after the vehicle overheated for about 10 secs, then went back to normal temp. took to the dealer to get checked out, and they said i needed a new radiator because there was in fact a small leak. repair costs were $1100 to replace a radiator, yes a radiator that had 50k miles on it. radiators are not supposed to go out that easily, and after researching on the web i have found dozens of people with the same sort of issues. ford has already released a tsb for this faulty part but will refuse to give me any kind of reimbursement, or pay for any of the work done. the only reason i even used the ford dealer was to get the pcm update that only they can do. please help, companies have to be held accountable for the products they sell.

Faulty radiator in 2006 ford explorer eddie bauer 2wd 4-door. radiator leak at 40k miles. it started with the engine rev'ing up after few minutes of drive upon acceleration. took it to dealer who says leaky radiator may be causing engine to heat up and the abnormal transmission function. i see many reports on internet with multiple radiator leak problems with this year model and in some cases upto 5 radiator replacements under 50k. this has got to be a recall from ford.

 1. the radiator on my 2006 ford explorer 4.0l v6 began leaking after just 3 years and 49k miles--despite regular maintenance. there was no warning signs, the vehicle overheated and fortunately we were able to safely return it to the dealer. 2. in taking it to my ford dealer they said it would need to be replaced at a cost to me of $1200 (since the waranty expired at 36k miles). 3. ford's issued a tsb in april 2009 with a diagnosis for this issue and have a redesigned radiator they recommend replacing any failed raidiators that year with. in contacting ford motor they take no responsiblity for this issue since it's out of warranty.

2006 ford explorer eddie bauer v6-4.0l noticed antifreeze leak at 62000 miles took to my mechanic and he told me that the radiator was bad leaking at seams. told me that it was a very comman problem for that year. replacement for new radiator is $750 . he told me to call ford and see if they had a silent recall on these as there is a tsb out for this, they said there is nothing they can do about it. checking different internet sites this is a very comman problem as he stated.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford explorer. the contact stated that the radiator leaked and failed. the radiator was replaced twice before and the dealer was replacing it for the third time at the time of the complaint. the manufacturer informed the contact there were no recalls or warranties on the vehicle. the failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

Once the vehicle reaches 35,000 to 40,000 miles, radiator failure is common. radiator had to be replaced on my 2006 ford explorer v6 at 39,000 miles. apparently this problems is known to ford motor company, as they've created a tsb for it stating to replace the radiator with a new design and to update the computer software on the vehicle. radiators should not fail this soon on new cars.

A friend with 2006 ford explorer had their engine seize ($5000) on the highway during a family trip over the christmas holiday due to a defective radiator and no engine temperature sensor warnings. the failure mileage was 41,000. i began checking my 2006 ford explorer because we were going to take a spring break family trip and noticed low anitfreeze on my truck overflow tank and leakage on the lower driver side of the radiator. i took it to the local car mechanic and he said he called the ford dealership parts department and they wanted $800 for a new radiator. my mechanic fixed the truck but his parts contact said the radiator is on a nationwide back order because of the all the defective radiators in 2006-2007 ford explorer type vehicles. i called the ford dealership and they said they repair about 4 or 5 a year and it is not covered under any warranty or recall. after the repair i found out there is a tsb recommendation from the manufacture in order to get a lifetime warranty. the ford dealership can only do this and for $95 the tsb will correct the temperature computer settings so the cooling fan will turn on sooner. the higher temperatures may be the reason this radiator is failing because they should last 10 plus years of the life of a vehicle before needing replacement. the gasket seal between plastic and aluminum on the upper driver side is the causing the problem, so it's obvious there is a combination of improper temperature settings and defective part. this part should be investigated for a defective issue that could cause direct or indirect deaths and/or injuries. it cost me $530 installed at a local radiator repair shop. the failure mileage was 71,000.

I own a 2006 ford explorer which i purchased new from the dealer. in july of 2008 with 38,000 miles on it the radiator had to be replaced because it was leaking. ford would not cover the cost because it was out of warranty. i now have 75,000 miles on the vehicle and the radiator is leaking again and will need to be replaced. i see other complaints in your database about the same issue and if this problem is searched on the internet many complaints can be found. i would like to state that this is a safety and environmental issue that ford should address. from a safety standpoint, if the cooling system fails completely at highway speeds and the motor stalls or freezes up a crash could easily occur from loss of control. environmentally, i wouldn't think the epa wants leaking antifreeze coming from hundreds (thousands?) of vehicles every day? environmentally, antifreeze is highly toxic to dogs and cats, and puddles of it in on garage floors should make ford want to take care of the problem? *tr

In late december 2009 i noticed liquid pooling on my driveway from my 2006 ford explorer so i took it to my local ford dealership. i was told the radiator was cracked and the vehicle was unsafe to drive. i had an after-market radiator installed due to the ridiculous price of the radiator from ford. on february 19, 2010, i again noticed fluid pooling on my driveway and immediately took the explorer back to the ford dealership. i was told the o-ring leading into the radiator had failed and it was leaking transmission fluid. the dealership said yet another radiator would have to be installed if they could not order the o-rings individually. i was again told the vehicle was unsafe to drive. the o-ring was replaced on february 24, 2010 and i was spared the extra expense of another radiator. the vehicle has 55,000 miles and all regular maintenance is performed on time. *tr

First the check engine light came on and the thermostat was replaced within a week the radiator was leaking. this caused the vehicle to overheat again. the dealership said they were replacing several radiators on this vehicle due to a weak spot in the radiator. ford refuses to acknowledge an issue without you confirming it first. getting stranded on the highway with children is not pleasant, when you have your vehicle serviced regularly. *tr

I believe the ford explorer 2006 radiators need to be recalled! first of all, let me just say that on carcomplaints.com there are 47 complaints about radiator leaks and having to replace radiators. i believe this to be a safety issue because if it overheats...it could leave someone stranded on side the highway, or even explode or catch on fire! please look at carcomlaints.com and review the complaints about ford 2006 explorer radiators! many people have gotten this same radiator replaced more than once! ok, now to me...i bought a 2006 ford explorer in january of 2006. in march of 2008, i was told that my radiator needed to be replaced. i couldn't understand why a vehicle with 40,000 miles on it, which get scheduled maintenance checks regularly with a mechanic could have such a problem. well, needless to say...i got it repaired out of pocket because my 36,000 mile warranty had expired. it was very costly. well,i continued to get my vehicle maintenance as scheduled. well, just a couple of days ago or less than 23 months(less than 2 years) later, i experience the same problem. another radiator leak! i hardly even go any where! the new radiator was yet again another ford radiator! i could have been left on side the road or had some sort of explosion! i believe there are defects in these radiators and i believe that ford motor company is issuing out faulty equipment. i believe that we, the consumer, or suffering the consequences due to their need to stay afloat. afterall, they too needed a bailout and what agreat way to save money if radiators or builtto last only a short time, and people go to keep paying for new ones! please check on this. i believe a recall is needed!!!!!!!! p.s. while writing this letter, just received a phone call that a technical alert has been put out on 2006 ford explorer radiators, and because of the complaint ...the model is not being made anymore! please check into this! *tr

2006 ford explorer has cooling systems problems. the engine light and gauge would suddenly rise. the engine would rev and the heat would blow cold air. in july 2009 i had the radiator replaced and was told by a ford dealer that would fix the problem. seven months later the same problems have started again. engine suddenly overheats, then suddenly drops, cold air from the heating system. i am taking the truck back to the dealer. dealer says they will not warranty the radiators, fans, etc., because of the steady problems they are having with them. *tr

I have a 2006 explorer with 42000 miles. i purchased the vehicle new off the lot. i have had numerous issues. it began 2 years ago with fluid leaking. i took the vehicle in to ford and i had cracked hoses. i then called this past summer to make an appointment concerning leaking fluid and my engine fan constantly coming on and off. i was told that was normal in the summer. now a few months later...my radiator is bad and also now out of warranty. had i listened to myself in the summer and forced the issue it would have been under warranty then. there are a lot if issues with 2006 explorer radiator failures which i have come across in the internet. *tr

I have a 2006 ford explorer xlt with the 4.0 v6. i have the famous radiator problem that it seems 90% of 2006 owners have. ford has issued a tsb, but no recall. i know people who have been through radiators every 5,000 miles. mine didn't fail until about 75000 miles, but it still failed, spewing antifreeze all over the driveway, and causing a lot of hours of labor for me. the part was about $300, but i spent over 6 hours installing it, so i didn't have to pay the dealer $1,000 to do so. this is definitely a safety issue, especially if you are on the road when it fails. so many people have hadthis problem, and it should be a recall by now. *tr

2006 ford explorer 4.0 liter. radiator started leaking at 42,000 miles and just short of 4 years old. leaking from the lower tank seal. must be replaced, can't be repaired. ford will not take care of this known defect. this failure isn't due to corrosion, it is an engineering defect. many explorer owners complain about this known defect and can only get help if they are fortunate to still be within the 36k mile 3 year warranty. *tr

I am currently having a problem with the vehicle the radiator is leaking, and i have to check the water level in the vehicle every two days to make sure that i do not completely run the vehicle hot and take the chances not having a vehicle by messing the motor up. this problem started just before i made my first payment on the 2006 ford explorer (may 25th) the vehicle began to making a loud noise like a fan continuously running whenever i would come to a complete stop and start moving again. then one day the air conditioner just stop blowing cold air and the temperature gage started to rise to hot my husband checked the radiator and found that the vehicle needed water bad. we have noticed water under the truck but we thought that it from the air conditioner the water under the truck is due to the fact that the radiator has a leak. we have had to replace the battery on the car as well this cost $79.00 this had me late for work as i did not find out the battery was dead until i was on my way to work one morning. i have check to see just how much this is going to cost me to have the radiator replaced and it is in the ball park of $400 -600. *tr

Radiator failure at 46,000 miles. mechanic said no reason why failure occurred, just started leaking radiator fluid. drove through rocky mountains, failure may cause engine failure due to overheating. *tr poor materials and workmanship.

I have a radiator failure on my 2006 ford explorer, 4.0 l v6. this is now the second radiator i have had to replace in less than a year. i have done alot of research online and have come across hundreds of blogs and forums with people with the same problem. ford will not acknowledge there is a problem. if so many of us are having the same problem there should be a recall. people are having to pay alot of money over and over for something that is a manufacturer defect. *tr

Had a radiator failure the first year. had a second radiator failure 36,000 miles later in the same spot on the same style radiator. looking at the complaints on one of the ford chat boards it looks like there are hundreds of us with the same problem from 2006. dealer admitted they knew of the problem but that replacement was not yet covered by ford and the radiators were currently on back order due to heavy demand. *tr

As vehicle was being driven, engine died. no lights on dash to indicate problem. no smoke from engine at that time. vehicle pulled over, hood opened, lots of smoke poured out. had towed to closest dealership. both head gaskets blown, heads warped, one piston broke. needs entirely new engine - estimated cost $6000. bought vehicle used with limited powertrain warranty. per ford a clamp on a hose to the thermostat missing caused breakdown and not covered by warranty. did research, there was a tsb about clamps to radiator hoses (should include thermostat) for replacement due to faulty coating which could cause engine failure. had my vehicle history researched and does not appear that mine were ever replaced. neither ford nor the dealership where purchased are doing anything to fix problem. also do not understand how powertrain warranty can cover the thermostat but not the hoses and clamps that are part of it. also believe that since no lights on dash to indicate problem that could also have prevented this from happening if the vehicle had been inspected properly prior to sale to me by dealership. *tr

2006 ford explorer eddie bauer - had leaking from the radiator -- took to a mechanic, he stated that there was a crack in the seam of the radiator and we would need to replace it at our cost of $650.00 because ford has not recalled the equipment but is more than aware there is an issue. *tr

I have a 2006 ford eddie bauer explorer with 47k miles on it. i just had to have my second radiator put in. my first went around 20k miles and luckily was under warranty. today, i had to spend over $600 to replace this. based on the number of complaints i see and what has happened in my situation, there is clearly a problem with these radiators. even my mechanic was aware of the issue prior to looking at my car. ford needs to address this asap! *tr

My wife noticed a large amount of liquid under the front of our 2006 ford explorer. we took the vehicle to town and country ford. they diagnosed the problem as a leaking radiator. the radiator was replaced at a cost of $611.69. i questioned survive advisor as to why a radiator would fail with approximately 46k miles. i asked if this is a known issue on this vehicle. he said no. by the way, my comprehensive extended ford warranty expired two months ago. ironic isn't it? i contacted ford motor company customer relations on 2/27/09. i asked to be reimbursed the $611.69 i spent to repair my vehicle. based on that conversation with kevin i didn't get the impression that they were going to do anything to stand behind their product. i was informed that the dealership will be contacted and i should hear from someone within four business days. *tr

I have a 2006 ford explorer that was leaking fluid on the front driver side. we took the vehicle in and were told there was a pin hole crack in the seam of the radiator. we had to replace the radiator. cost $600.00 there is 61,000 on the vehicle. i noticed many other complaints about this issue and brought it up to the repair department. they were not aware of the problem. *tr

The radiator in my 2006 ford explorer - eddie bauer edition failed on 01/17/09 and the vehicle only had 21,800 miles on it. it's quite obvious that ford should be recalling the radiators in the 2006 explorers since it appears that many people are having the same problem. i had my new radiator installed under the manufacturer warranty, but i know others have had to pay out of pocket to have the radiators replaced. *tr

2006 ford explorer, eddie bauer 4wd v6. radiator failed at 45000 miles. leaking from cracks along inside top seam. it is a manufacturing defect caused by poor design. bought the new unit from a local ford dealer and installed it myself. $303.00 for the new radiator. this seems to be a very common problem with the year and model referenced. ford needs to step up and admit there is a problem and assist the owners of these fords. *tr

On jan 6 2009, i noticed a puddle of antifreeze on the ground underneath my 2006 ford explorer. the explorer is equipped with the 4.0l v6 engine. i took it to the dealer as it is still under warranty, and they said that the radiator had cracked. i had it replaced under warranty, and afterwards i did some searching through the warranty history that was provided to me when i had bought the vehicle, and found that the radiator had been replaced on feb 18 2008 also. this means that two new radiators have gone into this vehicle in the last year. i spoke to the ford customer service line and they have told me that this is the first they have heard of this problem, with no plans for a recall in the future. this seemed strange to me as i know of at least 10 other people who have had radiators replaced, sometimes three times, in their 2006 explorers. i believe that there should be a recall on these vehicles to have the radiators replaced with a better designed part. this would have been an extremely expensive repair had the vehicle not been under warranty. i appreciate anything you can do. *tr

Leaking radiator in 2006 ford explorer at 40,000 miles. dealership made my buy a new radiator. *tr
09/30/2008378001
I noticed coolant leaking under the driver side of the radiator at around 37,800 miles. dealer initially said it was a loose hose and repaired for $75 (9/30/08). leak continued. returned to dealer and was told that the radiator was cracked (10/12/08). i have done searches on the internet and this appears to be a very common problem with the 2006 ford explorer. ford should put a recall on the radiator so that if the radiator experiences problems, the repairs are covered. dealer quoted $630 to replace the radiator. contacted ford and customer service indicated they would arrange a discount for the repairs at my local dealer. this places the burden on the dealer, who is independent of ford. ford should furnish this part to the dealer free of charge and reimburse them for the labor in order to take the burden of a faulty part off of their dealers and the consumer. a radiator should not crack with 37,800 miles on the vehicle (1,800 miles out of warranty!). this is when i noticed the problem. it was probably happening prior to the warranty expiration. *tr

I bought a 2006 ford explorer used in dec. of 2006 about a year later i was having problems took it in and needed a new water pump it was covered under warranty. in june of 2008 the gear shift would stick when trying to get out of park also the engine would race and not shift gears it was also making a knocking noise in the engine. took it in for a routine oil change and to have all problems looked at they said there were no problems and it was a glitch in the computer its just not resetting itself they said it was fixed on nov.08 again went in for oil change they said coolant was low and top it off didn't see any leaks in hoses or radiator. and 9 days later my engine blow now i got to pay 5,500. to get it fixed because the warranty is now expired. i was told the coolant was leaking into my oil tank and exhaust which when oil changes were done should have been detected. *tr

Failure #1--gear shift selector very difficult to move from park; dealer said ford redesigned, but not covered by them. failure #2--leak in seam of radiator (between plastic & aluminum). again, not covered by ford or by extended warranty. *tr

Around the beginning of oct i noticed antifreeze leaking. on nov7 2006 i had to have the radiator replaced. my explorer had 47,227 miles on it but the leak was discovered before the mileage got to 47,000. i have been told that it never should have happened. we have 2 other explorers with about 120,000 and a 130,000 miles and never have a bit of trouble. the years on those are 1998 and 1999. mine is a 2006. i am glad this was caught early. i have heard of other radiators leaking on explorers of the same year. it cost me almost $400 to have it replaced. i feel that this needs to be looked into. *tr

I have had a slow leak in my explorer for a week, we changed the over flow tank and then the leak became a more serious one. my dad looked at it and my radiator is leaking about two different places. it is going cost me about $300.00 to get a new or if it can be repaired the price of it. a owner of a shop has informed me that he has had to repair several radiators with the same year and make as mine. if this is such a big problem for everyone why hasn't there been a recall yet. *tr

I began to notice leakage under my car. it appeared to be antifreeze so i kept a check on it. after two weeks, there was a gush of liquid. i took it to the local ford dealership. the radiator was bad and needed to be replaced. i bought my ford explorer new just 2 years ago. shouldn't a radiator last more than 2 years? it cost me $80 for the diagnosis and $545 to replace it. i have the old radiator. in the upper right corner there is corrosion which indicates that there had been a malfunction over a period of time. *tr

The truck make a horrible ticking noise when you start it up. it will do this until the oil gets thru the motor. ford states that it is the nature of the motor for normal wear and tear. it is embarrassing to say the least, as it sounds like a ticking time bomb that is waiting to go off. after the truck has been running for a few minutes than the noise goes away, seems that if i spent this much money on a vehicle, it wouldn't sound like an old cluncker.

Ford explorer 2006 engine overheating. outside air temperature 118 f', was stranded with infant in the car. had car towed, and discovered this is a recurring problem in the radiator, coolant and hose parts on this model, as shown on http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/explorer/2006/cooling_system/radiator_failure.shtml apart from heat exhaustion, no injuries to report.

Over the last 18 months with my explorer i have had it die on me 4 times and had to get it towed to the dealer. 4 times they have told me that it was some sort of component in the throttle body that is causing it to die. it has died twice on me on the highway while doing 65 mph. this is not acceptable. the last time it happened was on thursday april 15th. i brought it to the dealership and yet again they said it was a sensor in there and for the 4th time the replaced a component of this instead of the whole thing. they can not guarantee that this will fix it which is very disconcerting to me. i no longer feel safe driving this vehicle. i do not go above 45 mph because i do not want it to die on my on the highway again. that was extremely scary. something needs to be done before anyone else has to go thru what i (and based on the online comments many other people have gone thru). ford has a problem with the 2006 explorers and something needs to be done.

My suv stalls any time the car slows down or it will accelerate on its own up to 60mph so that i have to drive with my foot on the brake. tonight the car stalled in the middle of a major intersection and took 5 minutes before it would restart. when it did restart it accelerated so rapidly another accident almost occurred. i have taken the suv to the dealership three times over three years and the say that it is doing nothing wrong. i have found websites that other consumers are driving in the same hazardous vehicles with no recourse from ford. i am renting a car now because i am terrified to drive mine. *tr
