Same as a bunch of complaints about transmission lunges hard jolt when shifting, wrench light comes on and off regarding the 2006 ford explorer, now they are telling me that i need to get a new transmission that will be $3500.00 aprox. i have done some research and there are a lot of complains on this issue.please do something!!

The vehicle was driving at a speed of 40-45 mph and stalled. this again happened on may 25, 2012 while leaving on our vacation. we parked the vehicle and rented one to drive the remaining distance. when taken to a mechanic it was found the throttle body was bad. we have replaced it and in the month of november the vehicle began doing it again. as you drive it will just completely shut off. as the mechanic told us there is no electricity going to the engine and you can coast to the shoulder and restart the vehicle. this will be the 2nd time correcting this problem if this is the true issue. it was read there is a recall on ford vehicles for that year make but not for the explorer model. i have contacted ford and they also stated there is no recall. with the age and low mileage of the vehicle there is no reason this should be happening.

In the past month the vehicle was taking multiple attempts to start up. once i would get it started and drove it down the road at a stop light it would be jolty, vibrating feeling and then turn off. on two seperate occasions while i was driving the vehicle down the road it actually shut off on me. i took it to ford who charged me $100 to do a diagnostic test and could not find the problem and suggested that i take it to transmission specialist. i took it to aamco they found that there was a faulty screw that came apart and was shredded inside the transmission. $4k later the vehicle is fixed and working properly.

When attempting to add gasoline to the tank, gas shoots out of the tank at the nozzle area as if the tank is full. gas must be added at an extremely slow rate in order to fill the tank. even when adding gas to the tank at the extremely slow rate the pump will continue to kick off every few seconds.

Range shifter needs to be replaced, truck is jerking with acceleration and changing going between 1st to 5th gear jolting the vehicle. very big safety issue as i have almost been rear-ended multiple times. ford says no recall on transmission issues. mine is a 6r60 transmission in the 2006 eddie bauer explorer which has the range shifter located inside transmission. will cost $2300 to fix!

This vehicle has been jerking when i am going slow to the point as if someone hit me in the rear end of the vehicle. it is a very strong jerking sensation enough to frighten any reasonable individual. it also has been trying to accelerate when my foot was on the brake pedal and not in cruise control while going well below the minimum speed necessary to use the cruise control. the auto acceleration was while at 10 miles per hour or less and my foot was on the brake. this has become more and more frequent and i am worried it could be the computer, the transmission, the engine, or a control system not functioning properly. this has happened on multiple occasions with passengers in the vehicle. my parents were frightened when it happened. i am worried the thing may accelerate on its own and hurt another vehicle(s) or its passengers. there hasn't be a fire or crash yet but it is my fear that will happen unless this safety issue is meaningfully addressed. i already had certified auto repair of rockville md look at the vehicle and they told me they couldn't find anything wrong following a computer diagnostic. the jerking and auto acceleration are becoming more and more frequent and i am reporting this because i am concerned about the safety of my vehicle and others on the road. also, there are heavy virbations occuring during the idling process and i am not a mechanic but this may have something to do with the safety concerns on the vehicle. *tr

Whenever i put my suv in reverse it jolts and it feels as if my transmission has fallen out. i also notice it does the same when i try to put in drive some times. my car is well maintained and i have always bought ford trucks. i'm scared to drive my children in the car at times because my truck has a mind of it's own and decides when it wants to accelerate and when it doesn't. please give some insight. i've seen many message boards and it seems as if this is a problem across the board for this make and model.

Most of the time, my 2006 ford explorer v8 will jerk forward very hard when stopping. this usually happens when i approach stops signs or stop lights. it feels like i've been rear-ended because of how hard the jolt is. this could cause me to strike another vehicle or crash into a wall if parking inside a structure.the vehicle also sometimes jerks very hard forward when accelerating from a stop. after researching online, this issue appears to be a major problem that ford knows about, and apparently has done nothing to fix it.

My 2006 ford explorer jerks every time i stop at a red light, stop sign or even put my vehicle in reverse. when i purchased my truck it only 125000 miles on it and it strted jerking a few months after i purchased the truck. i have been back to the dealer and they tell me this is a very common issue with the 2006 ford explorer. there is a serious problem with the transmissiopn on the 2006 explorer and ford refused to help or give any assistance. i travel with three small children and i'm really scared that i'm going to get rear ended because of the jerking. i have searched online and there are hundreds of ford explorer owners that are having this same exact issue. we need to have someone that keep speak for us and our right as car owners. i am a mother of 3 and full time worker i can't afford a new car. ford should stand up and admitt there is a problem with the 2006 ford transmission. i came across your website and figured i will try and get some help here. this is really serious because someone can get in a seriou accident. this is a really bad jerk and it just gets worse and worse. please help

The radiator leaks on almost all 2006 models from the factory. ford acknowledges the issue was from overtightening, yet does not issue a recall.

I started to drive my vechile from the parked position my abs light came on and then my a grinding sound came from my front left and a jerking motion began happening to my vehicle. the grinding noise and jerking motioned happened for about 20 seconds. my abs light and traction light began flashing and stayed on permanetly with a wrench light on the dash board.

I discovered a leak in the radiator after noticing that the temperature gauge needle was bouncing around at an idle. after about a minute, the vehicle overheated and started steaming. we ended up having to have the radiator replaced at a cost of $600. (it was also over 90 degrees that day and i was stranded with two small children, the youngest was 4 months old.) then about a month ago, in may 2012, i was at a grocery store and when i went to enter the vehicle i noted a large puddle of antifreeze on the ground and it was dripping from the radiator. we had to have the radiator replaced, again at a cost of $600. the same mechanic repaired it both times and said it was the same issue as the first one. now we are having transmission fluid leaking from the cooling line that leads from the transmission to the radiator. these incidents have caused us serious hardships financially and could have caused physical injury due to the fact that it was extremely hot out on both occasions and i had small children with me miles from home. i have already contacted ford motor company and they have declined to do anything about this issue. i am requesting, as are many others, that a recall be issued. and i also suggest that you research this problem on the internet as it is a major one. it is strange that ford changed the radiator in the 2007 model year explorer.

I have a 2006 ford explorer xlt and this will be third transmission to go into the vehicle. in addition, i have replaced the radiator three times and an engine block seal. these are very costly fixes for a car that is only a couple of years old. i have reached out to ford customer service and they are not helpful or sympathetic at all and claim that they are not aware of any transmission problems. meanwhile, when you search the web it is an issue across the board. i feel their customer service is horrible and so are their cars. i would never recommend a ford to anyone, not even my worst enemy. i could have bought two cars for the money i am putting into this vehicle.

I have done a tremendous amount of research and notice that hundreds of others are having the same issue with the 2006 ford explorer. the transmission is giving numerous issues. hard to shift into reverse, roars, slips when changing gears, etc. the most disturbing problem is the transmission just jumps into gear without moving the gear shifter lever. the transmission stalls at red lights and then just jerks forward after several seconds. please help before there is an accident.

Thermostat/radiator failed causing entire engine failure. there has been several other complaints like this about the explorer. my children and i were in the vehichle when in malfunctioned without any warning a big cloud of smoke and the vehichle shut off in the middle of heavy traffic this could have caused a very serious accident. this issue with the radiator needs to be addressed.

Transmission would slip, temperature gage shoot to hight for 5 seconds then drop back down discoverd low coolant. leak got worse. cracked radiator discoverd this is common problemreplaced radiator, now having thermostat housing replaced. 6 weeks after repair took to ford due transmission fluid leaking ford said it was in quick connect because i used an after market radiator said only way they could fix it was to replace my entire radiator again for $1300. could not replacde fittings had to get it all together.asked them why i would want a ford radiator since they fail. they said yes this is a common problem.

2006 ford explorer xlt w/4.0 l had a coolant leak and needed a new radiator. mileage was 40,005. radiator was replaced on 11/16/2009. two years later (1/1/12) the radiator is again leaking and needs to be replaced. current mileage is 54.435.

We purchased our 2006 explorer used with 61,000 in summer 2009. the dealership did a complete inspection and replaced everything we found as defective or as a recalled item. the coolant system wasn't one of these issues. drove vehicle all summer and into the fall without issue. by late fall of 2009 vehicle had anti-freeze leak, just after the first frost in ne. local auto service providor replaced radiator twice in one month with napa parts without remedy and then eventually they had to replace with an authorized ford radiator to get it not to fail. also replaced the water pump, all hoses, pullies, and fluid to make sure there were no other issues. still leaked but minor and finally was corrected in spring of 2010. by late fall 2010, again after the first frost the vehicle was leaking anti-freeze again. took it to ford dealership this time where they went through the entire cooling system and replaced the thermostat and upper intake housing they said was leaking. they also flushed the entire system again and added what they deemed was the correct antifreeze for the vehicle assuring that this would stop the problem. vehicle still leaked and we had to periodically tighten the hose clamps but by spring of 2011 the leak again stopped. just brought vehicle back to ford dealership fall 2011, again after the first frost. was told the now 2 year old ford radiator was failing at the joints between aluminum and plastic. this was the same failure as originally noted in fall of 2009. there appears to be an ongoing problem with 2006 explorer radiators with over 50k miles. along with environmental issues, this condition affects the transmission and the safety of the occupants if the engin runs out of coolant.

While driving the vehicle, the smell of antifreez started coming into the car. my fiance' checked the radiator and overflow bottle and found out it was gas mixed with the antifreeze. my car's milage is 80100. i do not believe the car should have this issue at only 5 years. this problem/complaint should be investigated and damages should be covered by the dealership or manufacturer.

While being parked on an inclined hill, my explorer would not get into gear. had to call aaa to tow to transmission specialist who adjusted the gear but stated you might have more transmission problems. since then my car has had problems where the gears have been grinding as i'm driving. i'm afraid i might have more serious problems in the future since i've been reading reports from ford owners that this is becoming a major problem with ford vehicles.

The radiator was leaking on my explorer and ford refused to fix it, eventhough it was still under warranty. i see that there are many complaints on the 2006 ford explorer for the radiator leaking.

At random times and not often, when i put the suv in park, and turn off the truck and remove my foot from the brake, the truck will continue to roll. it is as though the suv is in netural, put it is in park. the suv will roll until something stops it like a curb or applying the brake. to fix the problem, i have to place the shift gear to from park to another gear and back to park. at that time, the truck will catch. over the past year or so, it has occured 6 or 7 times. i took the truck in for service and they checked the transmission and gear box and found no issue. the problem occured again last week. since the dealer cannot see the problem, they say there is no problem. however, it is a matter of time of when it occurs and i am not aware of it not locking and it rolls when there is nobody to stop it or a curb. there is no pattern since it has occured at work, grocery store, home, etc.

I own a 2006 ford explorer with only 64000 miles and the tone rings on the abs brakes have both cracked, not costing me over $1000 in repair bills. this is an item that should not crack with only 64k miles of use.

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 ford explorer. while driving approximately between 45 to 50 mph, the contact noticed that the vehicle road performance was extremely poor. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they were unable to determine the cause of failure. the dealer replaced the four tires at the manufactuer's expense. recently, the contact detected the tires premature wear and stated that the tires would need to be replaced again after eighteen months of the new replacement tires. the failure mileage was approximately 10,000. js

Vehicle just cut off one day while driving, lost power, wrench light came on. cut the vehicle off and start it up and off you go. this problem occurs over the next year, about 2 to 3 times a month. have taken the vehicle to the dealer, they said there was nothing they could do because the engine light was not on. finally after several more months of the same problem happening the engine light comes on and stays on. take it back to the dealer and give some more money to them, just for them to come to the conclusion that the throttle body needs to be replaced, and that i have a small leak in the radiator. i do not have the money to get the repairs done. i'am already making payments every month for a vehicle that won't work right. i take care of my vehicle and get all the services done on time. currently i have close to 80,000 miles on my explorer. i have been reading that plenty of other people have experienced both the throttle body and radiator going bad, i have read that it is a known problem for the radiator and throttle body to go bad. ford you need to recall this, and own up to this issue. long story short this will be the last ford i purchase, and i'm thinking about getting rid of this one as quick as possible.
