AIR BAGS

Air bag flashing a code and the horn no longer works. local dealer reported the clock spring has failed and is not covered by warranty or current recall, repair costs would be around $150. dealer reports that the air bag may or may not work in an accident. i did not have the repairs done. recent research at your site noted other '94 fords having the same problem. wanted to add to those reports because, like me, there are probably thousands of other owners that are driving around with a flashing air bag warning light or paid for the repair that should have been a recall because of some defect.

3 replacements of the clock spring in the steering column of a 1994 ford f-150 pickup truck. the horn stops working and the warning light on the dash comes on for faulty airbag. a ford technician informed me the airbag may not properly deploy if not corrected. continued problems with the same part seems to indicate a munufacturer's problem. serious consequences if the airbag will not properly deploy.

Got into our 1994 f-150, the air bag light came on on our way to town we found out the horn wouldn't work either. when we got home looked it up and found 818 other complaints on the same problem.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle was operating normally when it was taken to the dealer to have the cruise control disconnected under recall #05v38800. after the dealer disconnected the cruise control, the horn began to work intermittently, and the air bag light flashed intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that during the initial disconnecting of the cruise control switch, the battery should have been disconnected, but wasn't and this resulted in damage to the clock spring and the horn assembly. *ak

Incident date 7/24/2007; mileage 158,487. product failure of the circular steering switch on my 1994 ford f150 truck. failure of this switch deactivates the airbag deployment and the horn. two prior incidents of same failure on 4/4/2001 mileage 105,900 and again on approximately 5/11/2001. these failures may indicate an systemic issue possibly requiring a vehicle recall program. *tr
