Defect SummaryCertain aftermarket fuel filters sold under the purolator brand name, p/n f65277, shipped from january 16 through june 2, 2006, for use on the above listed passenger vehicles. due to incorrect design, the quick connectors may not fully seat with the tube interface, even though the person making the connection may believe that the quick connector is fully attached.
Consequence SummaryFailure of this connection could lead to fuel spillage and, in the presence of an ignition source, a fire could occur.
Corrective SummaryUfi will notify owners and replace the filters free of charge. the recall began on august 4, 2006. owners may contact ufi filters usa at 800-230-5876.
NotesThis recall only pertains to ufi filters usa (purolator) aftermarket fuel filters and has no relation to any original equipment installed on the listed passenger vehicles.customers may contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

Defect SummaryFord is recalling certain 1997 through 2003 model year ford f-150, 2004 model year ford f-150 heritage, 1997 through 1999 model year f-250 less than 8,500 lbs. gross vehicle weight rating (gvwr), and 2002 and 2003 lincoln blackwood vehicles manufactured from june 20, 1995, through august 4, 2004, originally sold, or currently registered in, connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin, and the district of columbia. prolonged exposure to road deicing chemicals may cause severe corrosion of the fuel tank straps which secure the tank to the vehicle.
Consequence SummaryAs a result of the corrosion, one or both straps may fail allowing the fuel lines to separate from the tank, or in some cases, causing the tank to contact the ground. either scenario may result in a fuel leak presenting a fire hazard.
Corrective SummaryFord will notify owners and instruct them to take their vehicles to a ford or lincoln dealer to have the fuel tank straps replaced with straps that have increased corrosion protection. early in this campaign, if replacement straps are not available, dealers may install a cable support under the strap as an interim repair or a steel reinforcement over the existing strap as a permanent repair. any repairs will be performed free of charge. the safety recall began on september 16, 2011. owners may contact ford motor company customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332. ford's recall campaign number is 11s21

EA11006FORD MOTOR COMPANY05/04/201108/19/2011Fuel Tank Strap Failure Due to Corrosion11V385000
One or both of the steel straps holding up the fuel tank and attaching it to the truck frame can corrode and fail (break or separate).if one strap fails, the tank may tilt and drop and possibly contact the road surface.if both straps break, the entire tank may drop to the road.if either failure occurs while the vehicle is being driven, contact with the road can abrade the tank and create a hole from which gasoline can spill.when the tank drops, it remains attached to the vehicle only by the fuel filler hose and/or supply lines, or in rare instances, by the skid plate, if present.in some cases the weight of the tank sufficiently strained the hoses and fittings and caused separation and subsequent fuel leaks from those connections.the fire hazard created by leaking gasoline is increased by the possible presence of sparks created by the metal tank being dragged along the road.corrosion of the straps appears to be caused by prolonged exposure to road deicers, frequently road salt, used to treat snow or ice covered roads.states in which large quantities of deicers are applied to roads during the winter season (salt belt states) account for the predominant portion of strap failures.vehicles in these salt belt states are prone to experience corrosion related failures more frequently and earlier in a vehicle

Gas leaking from back end of gas tank. gas tank rusted through on back of tank were a plastic shield was afixed by ford. removed plastic shield and entire end of gas tank rusted and leaking. brushed away loose rust and multiple holes appeared and gas poured out. the plastic shield has a space between it and the tank which collects dirt/snow and road salt causing the gas tank to fail and leak. the rest of the gas tank is sound except for the straps that hold it in place. ford has issused a recall for the straps. ford should consider the entire gas tank for recall because of this plastic cover that cause the gas tank to fail and leak. a very serious danger of fire.

Vehicle is on current recall for strap securing the gas tank rusting. not only the straps are rusting but the gas tank is also rusting. when one of my straps broke the gas tank dropped 2 . both straps were replaced and then gas tank started to leak. i would recommend that the gas tanks also be checked for rusting by the support straps. i had to pay for a new gas tank to get my truck back on the road safely.

My daughter was driving my 1999 ford f150 truck (approx. 145,000 odometer miles) at 35 mph when one (probably the front), or both, gas tank straps broke. she dragged the tank about 300 yards before stopping. both straps were broken by that time and the tank was on the ground with a deep dent the size of a baseball and the metal scraped clean in the front right bottom corner of the tank. in attempting to strap up the tank, the damaged portion was scraped on the ground, which opened a seam up and fuel began leaking. i had to unbolt and take out the fuel pump because i couldn't figure out how to disconnect the fuel line fittings. the fuel intake hose was snapped off. i had to clip/cut the fuel sensor wires because i couldn't unlatch the sensor wires. another small hose came off (fuel overflow hose?) easily. i was then able to pull the tank out from under the truck and drain the leaking gasoline into a gas can and have the truck towed. a used tank was found with the original fuel pump in it to replace the damaged tank and a new gas gauge sensor attached.

I have a 99 ford f150 pickup truck which has two fuel tank straps that are unsafe because of extream rust. one is completely rusted thru and the other one rusted badly. i had them replaced at my expense by ford dealer. i called ford motor co and talked to rep regarding possible recall and was told there were no plans for a recall of this defect at this time. this was on sep 27 2010 by customer relationship center rep. there was not an incindent because of this defect because i inspected my veh and saw the problem myself and went to ford dealer to inquire about possible recall and was told none, so i called ford customer serv.

1999 ford f-150 was towed into shop for a no start problem which was diagnosed as a faulty fuel pump. the fuel pump on this particular truck is located inside the fuel tank itself which must be removed to gain access to the pump. when starting this procedure, the mechanics immediately discovered that both tank straps had rusted through and the fuel tank was no longer held in place by the fuel tank straps and was instead resting on the fuel tank skid plate. if this was a 2-wheel drive vehicle, there would have been no skid plate and the tank would instead have been dragging in the ground creating a dangerous situation.

F150 fuel tank rusted out and leaked - due to rusted tank straps had to replace tank and straps at 130,000 miles
09/12/2010141000
On september 12, 2010, i was driving on a dirt road road at speeds of under 25 miles per hour when i heard a noise coming from under the vehicle. i puilled the vehicle safely over to the side of the road and myself, and the 2 other people in the truck got out to attempt to locate the source of the noise. immediately, we noticed that the front fuel tank strap(the strap closest to the front of the vehicle) was rusted and broken. as a result, the tank was loose and bouncing. that caused it to hit the underside of the passenger compartment. since we were many miles from an auto parts store, we used a small rachet strap to keep the fuel tank in place. the next day, i saw a news story about the investigation, and decided to hold off on making the repair until i contacted the nhtsa office.

Ref: pe10036 this submission has been provided to indicate an additional occurence of the problem described in nhtsa action number pe10036: on or about august 6, 2010, the rear fuel tank strap on my 1999 f150 broke. as a result, the rear of the tank dropped about 8-12 inches. the tank did not hit the ground and did not spill fuel. it remained suspended by the front strap. over that weekend, i noted that the fuel level seemed to drop suddenly, however i did not investigate why. i filled the tank on that day. on august 9, 2010, a relative of mine saw the rear of the tank hanging a few inches above the ground. the strap broke because of obvious excessive corrosion. the corrosion on the tank where it came in contact with the strap was also excessive. as a result, i replaced the tank and both straps with after-market parts.

1999 ford f150 2wd truck with 80,000 miles the fuel tank fell out of the truck. upon investigation, it was found that the fuel tank straps has corroided apart. when re-installing new straps, it was found that the fuel fill tube was coroided, as well, with several holes in it. also, while re-attaching fuel tank it was found that the reaer three cross-members were on there way to corroiding into two pieces, and had already completely broken in other places. upon removal of pick-up truck bed for examination, it was found that the rear spring shackle pins had corroided away, leaving no support. further, the frame rails were coroided to the point that they could be bent by hand- no tools used! this should be a major safety recall by ford as an unsuspecting user hauling a trailer may loose their trailer, despite safety chains attached, causing injury, or death, and property damage. an unsuspecting driver would also be subject to the fuel tank falling off the truck, while driving. it could burst into flames, due to hot exaust, or road sparks. this also poses the safety hazard of fuel spillage on a roadway. this is not the first truck manufactured by ford that has had problems of this nature, but this is the worst i have seen, and there are more than likely more cases known to other mechanics, as well as some that have gone undetected as of yet.
