Defect SummaryCertain aftermarket fuel filters sold under the purolator brand name, p/n f65277, shipped from january 16 through june 2, 2006, for use on the above listed passenger vehicles. due to incorrect design, the quick connectors may not fully seat with the tube interface, even though the person making the connection may believe that the quick connector is fully attached.
Consequence SummaryFailure of this connection could lead to fuel spillage and, in the presence of an ignition source, a fire could occur.
Corrective SummaryUfi will notify owners and replace the filters free of charge. the recall began on august 4, 2006. owners may contact ufi filters usa at 800-230-5876.
NotesThis recall only pertains to ufi filters usa (purolator) aftermarket fuel filters and has no relation to any original equipment installed on the listed passenger vehicles.customers may contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

Defect SummaryFord is recalling certain 1997 through 2003 model year ford f-150, 2004 model year ford f-150 heritage, 1997 through 1999 model year f-250 less than 8,500 lbs. gross vehicle weight rating (gvwr), and 2002 and 2003 lincoln blackwood vehicles manufactured from june 20, 1995, through august 4, 2004, originally sold, or currently registered in, connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin, and the district of columbia. prolonged exposure to road deicing chemicals may cause severe corrosion of the fuel tank straps which secure the tank to the vehicle.
Consequence SummaryAs a result of the corrosion, one or both straps may fail allowing the fuel lines to separate from the tank, or in some cases, causing the tank to contact the ground. either scenario may result in a fuel leak presenting a fire hazard.
Corrective SummaryFord will notify owners and instruct them to take their vehicles to a ford or lincoln dealer to have the fuel tank straps replaced with straps that have increased corrosion protection. early in this campaign, if replacement straps are not available, dealers may install a cable support under the strap as an interim repair or a steel reinforcement over the existing strap as a permanent repair. any repairs will be performed free of charge. the safety recall began on september 16, 2011. owners may contact ford motor company customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332. ford's recall campaign number is 11s21

EA11006FORD MOTOR COMPANY05/04/201108/19/2011Fuel Tank Strap Failure Due to Corrosion11V385000
One or both of the steel straps holding up the fuel tank and attaching it to the truck frame can corrode and fail (break or separate).if one strap fails, the tank may tilt and drop and possibly contact the road surface.if both straps break, the entire tank may drop to the road.if either failure occurs while the vehicle is being driven, contact with the road can abrade the tank and create a hole from which gasoline can spill.when the tank drops, it remains attached to the vehicle only by the fuel filler hose and/or supply lines, or in rare instances, by the skid plate, if present.in some cases the weight of the tank sufficiently strained the hoses and fittings and caused separation and subsequent fuel leaks from those connections.the fire hazard created by leaking gasoline is increased by the possible presence of sparks created by the metal tank being dragged along the road.corrosion of the straps appears to be caused by prolonged exposure to road deicers, frequently road salt, used to treat snow or ice covered roads.states in which large quantities of deicers are applied to roads during the winter season (salt belt states) account for the predominant portion of strap failures.vehicles in these salt belt states are prone to experience corrosion related failures more frequently and earlier in a vehicle

A plastic cover over the rear part (towards the axle) of the gas tank has caused a rust hole in the tank. the piece is held on with 2 strips of double sided adhesive and attaches to two clips on the tank. the rust damage is under the adhesive strip on the bottom causing a very slow leak. i'm not sure what the function is for this plastic piece and i can't imagine that my vehicle is the only one affected by this design flaw?

On 11/11/11 i was driving home from work in my 2001 ford f150and was approximately 1 and a half blocks from my house when i hit a pothole and heard a loud bang and then some metal grinding or dragging which i initially thought was my exhaust the way it sounded, so i stopped the truck and looked underneath. this is when i realized the magnatude of the sutuation, a strap that holds my gas tank in place had broken off from what appears to be rusted and the gas tank was hanging by one strap . at this time i was about 100 feet from my house so i had my son come out and i pushed the vehicle to in front of my house. the tank is grinding on something when you move the vehicle or when turning the vehicle.

I have not seen this posted anywhere. i have received the ford recall for the fuel tank straps. my local dealership called me when i took the truck in for the repairs and said my fuel tank is leaking. the fuel leak is right behind or around the rear tank strap. i do have pictures if anyone wants to see it. the ford dealership didn't hesitate to tell me that it was not part of the recall and gave me a qoute to replace it. i feel it should be added to the recall procedure. it sure seems likely that the rusted strap caused the rust and eventually caused the leak. now i have a truck that shouldn't be driven, won't pass state inspection and ford says i'm on the hook for a new fuel tank. they know they have a problem and should step up to the plate and look into this some more. i'm not the only guy that has this same problem

No warning at all. i was driving 10-15mph coming to a stop when the entire gas tank fell off my 2001 ford f150 crew cab truck. an entire tank of gas leaked all of the road and required the fire department to be called for safety and clean up. i had to have my truck towed to a repair shop, where it awaits diagnosis tomorrow. it appears that the straps and tank had completely rusted. i'm lucky nothing ignited since i was able to pull over and was driving so slow.

On 6/10/2011. my 18 year old son had borrowed my 2001 ford f-150. he had stopped to fill the fuel tank and continue on his errand whe the gas tank straps suddenly failed, dropping the fuel tank onto the ground while in motion. no injuries or fire resulted from the incident but a full tank of fuel was spilled onto the ground creating a hazzardous material situation, closing down the road for a significant period of time to allow for cleanup. i don't have the final cost for repairs or cleanup and i don't know if and how insurance would cover the cost. i was surprised to learn that this has happened to other similar year ford trucks yet no informational warnings were issued.

The gas tank strap on my 2001 ford f150 lariat supercrew has rusted completly through and broke, making the gas tank loose and unstable. if i would not have heard the squeak of the loose tank that i thought was my spare tire, i would have eventually lost my tank which could have resulted in a fire or injury. i think the strap should be made of a material that is not so susceptible to the elements.

After purchasing this used 4wd f-150 i filled the tank and noticed the smell gasoline. inspection of the fuel system revealed the rear gas tank support strap had rusted through. this allowed the tank to drop down and rest on the rock guard for the tank. operation of the truck in this state caused vibrations to wear through the tank resulting in the fuel leak. were it not for the rock guard (on 4wd models only) the tank may have fallen off or at a minimum left hanging from the front strap and the fuel line connections.

Gas tank straps failed on my 2001 ford f-150. i was leaving work when the gas tank just fell on the driveway as i was traveling about 25mph. i am very fortunate that it happened at this location as this situation could have been disastrous, luckily i was able to tie it back up with some nylon straps that i had with some help from a coworker. i was able to drive home and replaced the straps with new ones, the old straps apparently just rusted through and failed. ford should have a recall on this problem before someone is seriously hurt!!!

While driving my 2001 ford f150 down the highway, a spark plug blew out of the head and damaged the ignition coil. gas/air mixture was sent into the engine compartment, and if the plug had not damaged the coil, it could have ignited the gas. the fuel line is also just above the pug, and could also have easily been damaged.

While driving on the highway the straps on the fuel tank broke and the fuel tank fell off spilling approximately 25 gallons of gas. this was caused by the straps rusting away.

I have a 2001 ford f150 crewcab truck. on my way home from work, my vehicle started making an awful noise and the truck instantly started working rough. i pulled over and turned off the truck. my huband came to check on me and when we popped the hood and when i turned on the truck he saw the spark plug coming out of the cylinder. i have yet to have the mechanic look at it. afer reading up on this, i see this is a recurrent problem on ford trucks. i do not understand why nothing has been done regarding this matter. i simply do not have the funds available to pay for this if it is a major repair job nor do i have the means to purchase another vehicle due to the current economic state and were barely getting by as it is. i want something to be done and this issue with ford investigated further. it is a design flaw and this is getting ridiculous. do someone have to die in order for something to be done. thank god i did not pick my kids up yet . thank god i was just starting off from a light and hadn't even got back up to 20 mph. thank god it happens to me and not my husband that drove out to orlando today and was going to use my truck. he would have been severely hurt or worse if this occured at 70+mph. i have read that this could cost in the thousands and when i get an estimate i will update this matter further.something has to be done, there are no more excuses.

While driving my 2001 f-150 at approx 35 mph, the gas tank suddenly fell off when both tank straps failed. hoses and filler neck kept tank from totally separating from truck. towed to garage and had both straps replaced. $272.91. looks like a frequent problem after looking up on line.

I found one of the gas tank retaining straps broken on my 2001 ford f-150. i am currently checking with suppliers for replacement fuel tank straps and found that these straps are being investigated as a vehicle defect.

On friday, september 17, 2010 the fuel tank on my 2001 ford f-150 truck broke free of the undercarriage and was dragged approximately 200 meters before i could safely stop the vehicle. at the time of the incident, i was traveling 60 mph. upon exiting the vehicle, i smelled strong gasoline fumes and observed gasoline running from underneath the truck. i moved away from the vehicle and called the fire department and a tow service. from a distance (approximately 150 feet) the gasoline tank was clearly resting on the road surface. once help was on the scene, granular absorbent material was added to the gasoline which had spilled onto the road. the now empty gas tank was secured by rope to the truck undercarriage, revealing a large hole in the gas tank. upon further investigation, it was noted that the straps holding the tank had broke. the truck was removed from the scene on a flat-bed truck. the total cost associated with the gas tank straps breaking is $841.00.

I have a 2001 ford 150 pickup and while driving home from work on the beltway my gas tank straps broke and my gas tank was dragging on the road. i didn't know this until i pulled over because i heard a weird noise under the truck. after inspecting on the shoulder of the road i noticed the gas tank was laying on the ground, both straps had broke due to rust. i had to strap up the tank with two tie downs and then order new straps from the dealer and replace.

Throttle sticks after steady driving in cold/snow because of ford's poor design, they even state it in ford article no. 01-21-5. has happened may times to me. i just finally got an answer to the problem. the fix is over 500.00, and i don't have the money. it is their poor design, this just does not seem fair. i have had several close calls due to this problem, there really should be a recall on this. *tr

Apparently the straps holding the gas tank on to my 2001 ford f-150 pick up rusted. today the tank fell off while i was driving when one of the straps let go. fortunately there was no fire, however i spilled a full tank of gas when the tank split. the mileage is 101,000. ford says it's no longer in warranty even though this seems to be a growing problem

Gas tank strap rusted and broker and hanging, dragging. as a consiquence the rear of the tank has dropped considerably. as a temporary fix, another strap was fabricated using the old strap as a tracer. this happened before any talk of complaints or investigations was heard about.
