My first ford f150 had a engine fire as a result of the faulty brake fluid switch. i was told this truck was not part of the recall and didn't have this problem by ford customer service when i called to report it. since then the recall was expanded. my current ford f150 has a leaky brake fluid switch and my cruise control doesn't work. this switch is the one that was put on by ford after i brought it in for the recall. ford said this is not an additional recall. i am concerned that this will result in another fire and then unfortunately be recalled later. there are numerous articles online about brake fluid leaks continuing to cause fires in ford vehicles. please help me resolve this simple problem now before it becomes a large problem. p.s. i choose fireball in equipment because i didn't see ford listed as the manufacturer.

On october 7th my ford f-150 started on fire and burned under the hood. i had taken my truck from one side of town to the other about 12 miles. i parked and started to unload some tools out of it and went inside. after about 5 minutes the man i was talking to said what is going on with your truck it is smoking. i ran out to the truck and smoke was billowing out of the hood up the windshield and sides. i pop the hood and flames shot out about 4 foot up from the engine compartment. i was able to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher and a bucket of water from nearby, just plain luck. i had contacted the fire department as the fire was burning and they came out to make sure everything was alright. the tow truck driver came the next day and said this looks like a ford fire so that brings me here. i need to start a complaint and find out where i find a person to investigate the cause of this fire. *tr

On 7/10/09 (friday) my ford 2001 f150 supercrew was parked at my residents around 7:30pm. about 30 mins. after the vehicle was turned off, smoke began to come out of the hood, drivers side. it smoked for about 5-10 mins. i lift the hood and saw the wires and connection plug to the speed control deactivation switch was still smoldlering. after it cold down i disconnected the plug from the switch (the total damage at this time seems to be the faulty speed control deactivation switch, the switch connection plug and some wires leading up to the plug). on 7/13/09(monday)i had the vehicle towed to my local mechanic to inspect and repair the damage.i also placed a claim with my insurance co..along with calling the nears ford dealer(about 50 miles away) and got a will call you back answer, also they were suppose to have disconnected the switch three years prior when i had the vehicle in to them for routine maintenance ( i was sent a notice of recall from ford motor corp. along with the dealers computer flagging it too for this problem), i also called ford's 800 customer service hotline and filed a report with them (they said i did not have to take the vehicle to the dealer since i had already filed a insurance claim and had it already towed to a repair shop. as of 5:00 pm pst, on 7/13/09 i am waiting for my insurance agent to look at the vehicle and authorize repair. i am having the repair shop save the old parts. *tr

I was driving from santa barbara to lompoc along highway 1 around 6:30 p.m. when i first smelled smoke thinking there was a brush fire, but quickly it started to smell like electrical burning. looking around the truck for the smell while driving i looked out the side mirror to make sure no one was behind me, only to see sparks or small embers flying from my truck onto the highway. pulling over to the side i jumped out of the truck and pulled my tool box away from the bed to see if something in the back bed was on fire. i could only see flames underneath between the bed and the cab. fearing explosion i ran to call 911 from my cell phone. within minutes my truck was engulfed in flames. nothing left but a big pile of metal. tools, and golf clubs, gone. *jb

My 2001 ford f-150 caught on fire around 2:30 a.m. on august 5,2007 it was parked in my drive way and it had not been moved that entire day . we had the police come and make a report along with the firefighters and they told us that the cause had been the deactivation switch of the cruise control that made the truck get on fire. we have those reports so we contacted our insurance they told us that even though we had full coverage the insurance did not cover the damage that was caused. so they recommended us to talk to ford to see what they could do for us. but when we contacted them they took our information. they requested pictures and the reports that had been made we faxed them to carmen from the ford consumer affairs department. but we never received anything back from them that is when we sent them a letter notifying them how disappointed we where. the next day carmen contacted my daughter elisa rodriguez and told her that they still hadn't been able to do anything for us but that she would let us know. as the days passed we would not receive anything from ford so we would call them over and over again but now they not only didn't give us information but they would not return our calls we left various messages. but there was no answer . until one day my daughter called and carmen finally answered and told us that they could not do anything for us because the vehicle had been to badly burned in order to see what had caused it to get on fire. but ford never sent anyone to make investigations or a report they just didn't even try to help us in anything they just assumed everything they said . *tr

1 month ago my 2001 f150 would not crank. i checked the fuse and the #6 fuse (5 amp) had blown. i replaced it with a new 5 amp fuse and it blew again. i called our roadside assistance and asked that the truck be towed as we wanted to know why it was blowing the fuse each time we replaced it. the repair shop had the truck for 2 days and could not duplicate the problem about 10 days later it blew a fuse again. this time it was the #15 fuse(still a 5 amp fuse) and this time the truck would crank but would not go out of park. called a tow truck again and had it taken to a different repair shop that night. i spoke with the repair shop owner on sat july 1 and told him it was a secondary vehicle and as this was a holiday weekend not to rush. just when they opened back up after the holiday if he could get it fixed then. on the morning of july 4th 2006 we were called around 10:30 am by the repair shop owner, who was also a tenant in this building, that our truck had caught on fire during the night and was a total loss. he asked that we come right over. we called our insurance on the way as we luckily still had full coverage even though our truck was paid for. the auto repair shop had all the bay doors cut open by the fire department during the night(july 3rd) and there were several other cars in the building that were damaged also. at least one of which was a total loss also. the building had water and smoke damage even in its restroom. the repair shop has not been able to open all week and who knows how large his deductible, etc is. i have since found out my ford 2003 excursion has a fire recall on it. i am terrified to have my children in it or have it near my home or someone else's as i don't want to be responsible if it happens again. i have also found out that in my neighborhood of 26 houses. the man 4 doors down had his f150 burn down in his driveway during the night. it happened the month prior to us moving here. *jb

Woke up in the morning to truck on fire..called the fire department right away as vehicle was parked close to home they were able to put it out...thankfully only damage outside of vehicle was to the pavers on driveway..did call ford company and my name was not even listed as owner of vehicle...old owner was...probably why i never received the recall notice. *nm

Recall of ford f150 pickup for underhood cruise control defect. the last communication said the repair would be made by feb 15, 2006. this was the third date set. the dealer disconnected my cruise control at the manufacturers request last fall. i have had no communication from them since. *jb

2001 ford f150 super crew cruise control issues when using the cruise control at highway speeds (50-65 mph), if you encounter an incline sufficient for the transmission to downshift the cruise control begins to accelerate in a runaway mode. it will not shutoff. during one of these events i allowed the vehicle to continue accelerating to determine if the cruise would eventually shut down. it did not and i reached a speed of over 90 mph. whereas there was a recall on this vehicle for fires related to the cruise control i waited until those parts were available before mentioning this to my ford dealer. the dealer insisted that the recall would not fix this problem. that is, the sudden acceleration was unrelated to the recall. on 2/16/06 i took my vehicle to the dealer for the sudden acceleration complaint. he test drove the vehicle and was not able to duplicate the problem so his contention was that if he cannot duplicate it, it does not exist. nothing could be further from the truth. this is a dangerous situation!*jb

Preliminary data.. ford f150 2001 supercrew was left unattended while shopping. upon return i noted a puddle of fluid that was not present earlier under the vehicle. upon leaning down on the drivers side front to inspect for the source of the leak small flames were noted in the engine compartment. upon opening the hood for further inspection it was noted that the rear driver side of the engine compartment was on fire (appearing to me and other observers to be electrical in nature) with the brake fluid reservoir completed melted. the flames first observed were forced by the molten plastic dripping down into the engine compartment. the fire department was notified but thanks to some employees of the shop and the availability there of an approved extinguisher, the fire was terminated before the arrival of the fire department some 7 minutes later. comments were made by others and later by internet research that the damage has all of the appearances of being forced by the speed control deactivation switch issue. the vehicle is currently under evaluation by a ford dealership and my insurance company. fortunately the vehicle was unoccupied at the time and was in the middle of a strip center parking lot with no vehicles around it should the fire had time to develop further. earlier or later, it could have easily consumed my home.*jb
