EA10001FORD MOTOR COMPANY01/13/201004/25/2011Inadvertent airbag deployment11V107000
Odi opened this investigation based on reports of inadvertent airbag deployment.data provided by ford indicated that the airbag clockspring jumper wire, which is situated inside the steering wheel assembly, was installed in a manner that would allow it to rub (abrade) against a sharp metal edge on the nearby horn plate.because the horn plate is electrically grounded the abrasion of an airbag wire on the sharp edge could cause a short circuit condition.as a result the airbag light may illuminate and/or the airbag may inadvertently deploy.inadvertent deployments are most likely to occur during the airbag system's self-diagnostic test that initiates when the ignition switch is turned on.ford modified the vehicle design in late january 2006 adding a protective tape over the sharp metal edge of the horn plate.ford made additional design changes on my 2007 vehicles to the horn plate, the clockspring jumper, and the connector layouts to further address this issue.odi identified 318 deployment incidents with 121 alleged injury reports from subject vehicles.all but one of the incident and injury reports occurred in vehicles built before the january 2006 modification.in addition, there was one incident and alleged injury reported in the my 2006 mark lt vehicles that share the same design. in letters dated february 21 and april 11, 2011, ford announced a recall of all of the approximately 1.3 million my 2004-2006 f-150 vehicles built prior to january 24, 2006, the date the initial vehicle modification was made.in addition, approximately 14,000 my 2006 mark lt vehicles built prior to january 24, 2006 will also be recalled.vehicles built after that date, which contain the modification, are not within the recall scope.accordingly the investigation is closed.
EA10001FORD MOTOR COMPANY01/13/2010INADVERTENT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT
Ford reports that inadvertent airbag deployments are most likely caused by the airbag horn mounting plate's sharp metal edge that eventually can chafe/cut the airbag clock spring jumper wire leading to a short-to-ground condition.two hundred twenty five (225) of the 323 reports were for airbag deployments resulting in 66 injuries with the remaining 98 reports for an airbag light illumination condition.injuries include abrasion, contusion and cuts to the arm/hand/face and/or upper body regions.one owner reported a broken tooth and two owners reported a loss of consciousness as a result of the airbag deployment. ford made an interim design change to the horn mounting plate in january 2006 and then major changes to the horn mounting plate, airbag module and clock spring jumper wire designs in june 2006 for the my2007 vehicles.this engineering analysis is opened to ascertain the impact of this defect condition.

I have a 2004 ford f150. the drivers airbag light flashes intermitantly. i found that there is an upcoming recall by ford to fix the problem for 05' and 06' but not 2004. i read in an article that nhtsa has recommended that ford include the 2004 models. i contacted my local dealer and they said the did not know of any recalls for the f150 airbag problem. i offered to email them the articles but they said they did not have email. i told them the light was flashing and they told me it would cost 49.95 to look at the problem and i would have to pay for the total reapair. i am concerned that the dealer does not have this knowledge and are unwilling to deal with something so obviously dangerous. in one article it said that if the warnig light was flashing i should take my truck to the dealer immediatly. is the 2004 model going to be recalled and when??? if i pay for this expensive reapir i am concerned i will not be reimbursed once the recall occurs. how long will it take for nhtsa to force ford to step up before a fatality occurs?? i have a textbook situation occuring that nhtsa has identified and i can not get anything done about it!

I own a 2004 ford f-150 truck. 3 weeks ago, i received a recall notice #11s18 from ford motor co,explaining that a defect with the wiring harness could cause the driver's side airbag to spontaneous inflate while driving. i called the dealer, sheehy ford of warrenton, va. to schedule service to address the hazard, but they said ford had underestimated demand on the recall and they didn't have the neccessary parts to fix my vehicle, and to call back in a couple of days. that's been their response now for 3 weeks. the letter from ford stresses the potential danger of my vehicle's defect, but the dealer is suggesting ford sent out letters and alerted people to the problem without producing enough replacement parts to fix it. the situation is not being handled properly. 3 weeks after receiving a recall letter, my dealer has yet to act, and nothing has been done to address the problem.

Our 2004 ford f150 4x4 truck was subject to recall 11s18. when we took the truck in for the recall work at the nearest ford dealer service department informed us that they didnt have the parts to complete the recall work on our truck because the service rep said that ford only sends them five of the harness recall parts per day and they have been dealing with over 30 calls per day for this recall work and they have no idea when they will get the part to complete the recall work on our truck but they will call when they get the part. this is unacceptable in a safety recall.

Safety issue, in cab electrical failures. feb 4th 2006, it rained 1.5 inches. my truck sat in the rain with all the windows up. in the evening i opened the door and drove away. as i had jumped in the truck, i had realized i did not have any dome lights. as i drove away (engine running fine), i realized i did not have any readouts on my instrument cluster and several other things not working. about 10 miles later, i hit a bump in the road and all my non-working items began working. the only side effect was my tripometer quit working. at this time, september 14, 2006 i continue to have this problem. specifically when it rains or is humid. i currently have driven my truck approx 200 miles in the past 4 days without any of these items working. during these 6 months, i would approximate this issue as 1x per week problem, with the resolution being a hard hit on the dash while i am driving. however, i am at the point now where hitting the dash does not solve the problem. here is a list of things not working when i have this failure. the air bag light blinks upon start up then stays illuminated. no dome lights no speedometer no tripometer no odometer no tach no fuel no engine temp no operating volts no oil pressue no audible alarm the key is in the ignition no audible alarm when the lights are left on no auto power locks no power windows (therefore stuck in position of last normal operation) no radio no ac no defrost (problem occurs when humidity is high = fogging windows.) i feel i have some safety issues that make this truck unsafe. i am at 50,000 miles warranty, how do i get the mfg to fix correctly, for free. *nm

2004 f-150 3 of the 4 power window regulators have failed. two within a 5 day period while the vehicle was parked. the windows fall to the bottom into the door, this could be a very dangerous situation if a child or pet had been leaning on these windows. i demand a recall as i understand thousands of these regulators have failed and i want this situation resolved before someone is seriously injured or killed.
