Passenger side power window collapsed into the door while driving. briefly heard a pop/bang in the door thinking something hit the door, then the window went straight down without control. now i have no way of retrieving the window back up and securing it. plus unable to secure my vehicle or keep the elements of weather out of my truck. i will not use the truck to pick up my you children in this condition. i presume that this could be a significant safety hazard in similar situations with a distracted driver loosing attention to driving or in a severe weather condition. i will take it to a ford service dealer and share my displeasure with this incident. for my safety and everyone else safety, i will get this repair. this incident is severe enough to hurt or kill someone if it is not addressed. i am still shaking with fear while typing this complaint. *tr

Tl- the contact owns a 2004 ford f-150. the contact stated that the front driver side window and the front passenger side window had been replaced because both windows opened and dropped into the door panel independently. in order to repair the failure, the window regulators were replaced. the contact stated that the component was manufactured of plastic and could fail easily. the dealer stated that the failure was common but there were no recalls for the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 64,000. kmj

Tl- the contact owns a 2004 ford f-150. the contact stated that the front driver side window had been replaced and the front passenger side had been replaced once. the contact stated that when the failure occurred the window will fall and not roll back up. the contact stated the window regulator is what failed. the contact stated the part is plastic and breaks easily. the dealer stated this was a known problem. but the part had not been changed. the failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 64,000.rl

While driving on the freeway my passenger side window unexpectedly fell through the door. when i pressed the button to open the window a tad the regulator broke and the window began to fall. a week later the second back passenger window came crashing down also. thankfully it was while i was at the store and the car was stationary. i had to fix this out of pocket last week for about 700.00 for both windows, the repair guy at ford said this wasn't covered or issued as a recall. now fastforward to yesterday, my side driver window comes falling down and i had to use a doorstop to hold it up. i feel this is a widespread issue that ford has not come to terms with. this should have been a recall issued years ago. checking the internet there a numerous sites where angry customers of ford are experiencing this problem way to frequently.(ex. http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/f150/2004/windows_windshield/window_does_not_roll_up.shtml) we have always bought ford, but with the recent problems this might change. *tr

On 25 march 2011, i encountered a loud pop in the door on the driver-side of my 2004 ford f-150 regular cab truck, and the window disappeared into the door frame. i removed the door panel and discovered that the cable mechanism within the window regulator had failed. without further delay i turned the truck into my ford dealer to have the window regulator repaired, and received a repair bill of $301.86 (the regulator alone cost $159.36); the ford advisor stated that they had the part in stock since the window regulator failure was a common occurrence. i did not inspect the regulator to determine why the cable mechanism had failed. after this incident i visited www.nhtsa.gov to determine the extent of the problem, and learned that more than 240 other 2004 ford truck owners had experienced the exact same problem in one door or the other in their trucks. as might be expected when inferior parts are installed in a vehicle, such as the window regulators in the 2004 ford trucks, the passenger-side window regulator also failed. in the second instance i determined that a small, cheap piece of molded plastic on the window regulator had failed because of the immense pressure applied to it when the window was being raised. details of that failure are listed elsewhere on this website. *tr

In late-june 2012 a loud clunk/thud/pop/small explosion occurred in the passenger-side door of my 2004 ford f-150 regular cab truck, while the vehicle was stopped and idling, and the window dropped into the door frame. when i returned home i removed the door panel and discovered that a small piece of molded plastic, 1 1/8 x 1 7/8 (probable cost to ford about 39 cents) on the window regulator had disintegrated/failed, allowing the regulator cable to release the window. i have found a replacement window regulator on the internet for $70 (ford charges $175 for the part) and will repair the defective item myself. i notified ford of the failure of a less-than-quality plastic piece on the regulator and asked for reimbursement. ford responded: there are no factory warranties or programs in effect on your vehicle that would provide financial assistance for your current vehicle concern. however, they did add: recommend that you keep your repair receipts in case ford initiates a recall or customer satisfaction program in the future based on customer feedback or further engineering review of similar complaints. i see from the large number of complaints on this website by ford truck owners that i am but one of hundreds who have been affected, and obviously, there will be hundreds more; the odds are very high that the majority of the plastic pieces on ford truck window regulators will fail sooner or later, and i seriously doubt that the 2004 ford f-150 truck is the only model year that contains plastic parts in the window regulators. $70 to replace a failed piece of plastic that initially probably cost ford about 39 cents to produce is a sad commentary on quality. *tr

I was parked in a parking lot letting my car cool down before i rolled up the windows and once i proceeded to roll up the window it made a loud thump/pop noise and the window fell between the drivers side doorway. i had my local mechanic fix it on 6/30 and right after leaving his shop, i was driving down the road heard a loud noise come from the passenger side (and almost wreaked into a parked car due to the noise!) and stopped to inspect what happened. i tried the window and it slammed right between the passenger side door. now two windows and $800.00 later i have them fixed due to the window regulator going out in each one. this issue should be addressed as i called ford and they would do absolutely nothing. please recall this as this is extremely dangerous.

I have owned this truck since 2004, no serious issues. this past friday i noticed power was still going to my truck when it was turned off. the power accessory relay was clicking vigorously then stopped, no power inside my vehicle. i started the truck and everything worked except for the radio. i went for a drive than and then the reverse lights came on the door buzzer was going off, as i went to stop i heard a grinding noise occur than stopped. was able to get it home. i have 30 years of mechanic experience and tried to find a possible short. when i removed the passenger side rocker panel i found the harness covered in rusty water. now doing research on the internet, i have seen hundreds of people complaining about this issue, that ford wont cover. it turns out many people had to have wiring harness replaced costing thousands. while conducting my research i have found out water is leaking through the windshield the rear window and wiring harness that travels through the firewall. please help, ford will not admit to their mistake

Driving at 50 mph my truck dies. tow to a ford dealership (thomas ford, beverly ma.). diagnostics show blown pcu. dealer replaces pcu at my expense. finds that, or says that, the pcu was blown by the fpdm. ford does not have any in stock and 3 months behind in production due to bad economy. dealer pressures me into buying used fpdm because 3 other trucks on lot has same problem and they will buy part if i don't. 3 months without truck if i don't. dealer also says i should complain to ford motor company direct because (they believe) it should be a recall. fmc did nothing. not even expedite a new part. pcm was $970 part only and fpcm was $343 part only. fpcm cracked because mounted on dissimilar metal under spare tire.

I was traveling on a main boulevard when all of a sudden the drivers side window slid down with a loud sounding bang. the window did not break. however, what seems to be a spring loaded mechanism, must have broken causing the window to collapse down inside the door. the sound was so loud, it caused a nervous reaction in me which resulted in pulling on the steering wheel to one side. thankfully, there were no vehicles to that side and i was able to correct my steering to get back into my lane. as if one experience was not sufficient, it happened again 9/1/11. this time on the passenger side door. the same exact experience repeated except that this time i was driving at 75mph on i-25. i expected to find a recall to this dis-functional mechanism. what are the chances of this happening almost back to back within a 6 week period?

First incident: august, 2009 i was driving down the highway going approximately 65 miles an hour when the back passenger side window started decending without anyone pushing the button. i was then unable to use the window again. my infant son was in the back seat next to the window and it was raining. i took the vehicle to the ford dealership and had the window regulator replaced. second incident: january, 2010 once again i was driving and the front passenger side window went down without prompting and never worked again. i am an attorney and was on my way to the courthouse and was forced to leave my car unattended for a short amount of time and obtain continuances on all of my cases that day in order to have my window repaired. i was informed that it was the window regulator and the part needed replaced. third incident: august, 2011 same scenerio, my husband was driving the vehicle on the highway at approx. 55 mph when his window decended without prompting and we were unable to make the window work again. i had to have the window regulator replaced. besides the cost of repairs ($350.00 each window), i believe that this is a safety hazard. i had an infant by the window in the first incident and driving at speed the window could have shattered. also, all incidents occured while i was driving and proved quite distracting. it could have caused an accident. last, because i was unable to make the window(s) go back up i had to leave my vehicle unsecured.

All 4 windows regulators broke within a span of 4 months. window regulators have a steel cable which adheres to a plastic pulley--who designed this poor compatibility? common sense will tell you that this is not condusive to wear and tear for electric windows. vehicle is in excellent shape accept for this problem which as a consumer is unacceptable due to inferior products used. aluminum or another type of metal should have been used for the pulley--definetly not plastic. reported to ford--can't and won't do anything about this but tell me to take to ford dealer for repairs and pay an outrageous amt for the labor and regulator. i spoke with a local ford service manager and he revealed to me that ford knows this is a problem with several of their vehicles and also the lincolns but because of the cost incurred by issuing a recall that they chose to wash it under the rug. this is an unacceptable excuse as far as i am concerned. 4 window regulators in a 4 month span to break--something needs to be addressed and brought to ford's management and design departments.

In less than one year i have had to replace three windows in my 2004 f-150. the windows would just fall inside the door and the mechanism no longer worked. as i researched online, i noticed there were numerous complaints for this make, model and year. i feel this should have been a recall. i hope ford motor company looks into this and we will all be reimbursed for our expenses. thank you.

Failure of second window regulator in two years. driving down the road this time and nearly swerved off the roadway after i thought that the passenger side rear window had been shot out. turns out it was the regulator failing. ford needs to recall this part as a safety hazzard before somebody is hurt in a crash caused by the failure of the regulators. ford knows they have a problem but apparently will not recall or offer a fix.

While driving in up state ny, going about 30-35 mph, my rear passenger window started to open for no reason. by the time i was able to pull over the window was completely open and fell down into the door. i was unable to close the window and the ford dealership i brought the car to look at to try and fix it told me the regulator was broken and needed to be replaced. the dealership was able to get the window closed and taped it shut. i was 300 miles from home and i had to get home to try and get the window fixed. ps: this is the second time this has happened to me. about 2 years ago the same thing happened to the drivers window and i had to get the regulator replaced ford needs to own up to it's default and announce a recall on all it's window regulators

While i was driving, the rear drivers side window made a loud pop and the window just fell down. the window will not go back up. it is stuck down. i could not find any recall on the window but googled and found that is a problem for a lot of ford f150 owners.

After starting the truck, and having seemingly normal operation. it started to run rough and had a marked loss of power. the check engine light did not initially illuminate, giving no indication of a serious problem. thinking this was a temporary problem, we continued home. the next day my wife took the truck on her normal daily routine. she notified me later that the truck had gotten worse and that it was very rough and low on power, to the point of making merging very dicey. we took the car to the dealer for diagnosis and they found a wiring harness had chafed through due to a riding condition on an air conditioning line. this affected coil number 4. the dealer repaired the chafed wire and returned the car to service. the ironic thing(or disappointing, depending on your perspective) was that we had the car in for a recall campaign for a chafing wire in the airbag system.

I attempted to raise my front passenger-side power window on my 2004 ford f-150 supercab. i heard a loud pop and the window began to lower automatically. when it was completely inside the door, it stopped. i am now unable to raise this window. i was personally at a stop when the window failed, however, there are numerous accounts of this failure occurring in moving vehicles creating a safety hazard.

Faulty window regulator components. i replaced driver side, rear passenger (2004 f150 lariat crew cab) window regulator. seemed to be an old part that had to be replaced, until a few months, the passenger side, rear passenger window regulator also failed. now it is a concern. the reason for the complaint now is because my 3rd regulator busted, this time it was the front passenger window regulator that failed. now this really presents a problem and this needs to be recalled. the only one left to fail is my driver door. the master switch was also replaced at the same time the 1st incident occured, so that can be ruled out. in all instances, i heard a sound coming from the window regulator motor, following with a sudden drop of the wondows. call me lucky but none of the windows shattered from the fall into the door compartment. looks like for d beefed up on the pulley assembly of the new, replacement window regulators. seeking repairs of new incidents and reimbursment for replaced parts.

Currently own a 2004 ford f150 fx4. the driver side window suddenly fell off the track while driving and into the door, thankfully it didn't shatter. took it to the dealership, wasn't covered under warranty. it was the window regulator. cost around $500 to fix it. a year later the driver side window fell of track when shutting the door and fell down into it. don't really have the money to fix it, so we rigged it to stay up, however it falls slowly while driving and we have to keep pushing it up. now the rear passenger window has fallen down- where our child sits and this is becoming a problem. $1500 to fix 3 windows in 2 years is not acceptable on something that is clearly a defect. ford claims they are waiting for the nhtsa to require the recall from ford, until that happens they wont correct the problem. this is a safety issue as well as a consumer issue. please continue to advise ford of this defect and urge the recall.

No sigificant events lead up to.... 3 out of 4 windows on my 2004 ford f150 fx4 had to be replaced because out of the blue they come crashing down. i have spent about 700 dollars so far on this defect and have to go in tomorrow to get my passenger side window fixed which will put me over 1000. ford needs to recall these window regulators and i shoud get every penny i have spent on these pathetic devices back. come on ford, really? i feel like i and everybody else in this same situation have been taken advantage of for ford to make an extra buck. who is going to be the one to raise the bulls@#t flagged and take ford to the bank on this one.

While i was driving the truck on local roads, the passenger side electrically controlled window which was fully up suddenly slowly receded down into the door of the truck and now cannot be raised back up. the window is not broken, and the noise when i press the window control seems to indicate that the motor is still working properly. i have called several repair shops (and the dealer), and the conclusion so far (hearing the description but without inspecting the vehicle) is that the window regulator needs to be replaced.

In 2008 i purchased a 2004 ford f-150 lariat( 4 door). in march of this year ( 2010) the power window mechanism on the front drivers side failed, causing the window to drop into the door panel. the front drivers side passenger door failed in june of this year with the same result. today, sept 7, the rear passengers side door window mechanism failed causing the window to drop into the door. i have done some research on the internet and i find the failure of the power window mechanism to be fairly common. this is a definite safety hazard as an unexpected lowering of the window can cause items inside the truck to fly around inside the cab and create a safety hazard to the driver. it would seem that ford has had an unusual number of this failures and should make the repairs at their cost in order to prevent serious accidents.

2004 ford f150 supercrew 4 door - window motor/cable failure. i started to roll the passenger door front window down and immediately the window just dropped all the way inside the door leaving no window available on that door. no window, no protection from the weather, no security, etc. the window would not come up and remained down inside the door. i've read about this as a common problem that looks like a real obvious recall situation. please make ford responsible for this failure as it apparently can happen over and over because of inferior parts. this is my first occurence in my 23 months of ownership - thank goodness. there are so many similar reports and i ask that you be fair to the consumers and force ford to recall these parts with a suitable replacement part. please treat them equal with toyota and any other manufacturer. ford has a bad door cable or mechanism and they should be held responsible for this issue.

I was driving on the highway when i heard a noise like when you have one window down but i was driving alone and so i know i didn't roll down a window and when i looked back, the passenger side rear windown was falling down into the door. i tried pushing the power window button to try to get it to close but had no luck, just a rumbling noise. i was very upset because this is the 2nd time in less than a year that this has happened to my 2004 ford f-150 truck. it is very expensive ti repair and i think ford should issue a recall since i know at least 2 other people that this has happened to.

First noticed ticking noise in my 2004 5.4l 3v v8 engine. oil was at correct level. i went down a road i routinely go, and started hearing a very loud clanking. spark plug blew out of the hole and now trying to fix. hopefully wont have to replace the head. apparently i am not the only owner of this engine with the same problem!! this is just the one cylinder, but i have 7 more! am i going to have to do this with all of them? i had to have it towed to the only people who will try to fix it. other repair stations say they wouldn't touch it and that they had, or have been threatened by, a lawsuit from the vehicles owner. this has already cost me the replacement of the ignition coil, a an expensive spark plug, and a lot of down time. *tr

We own a 2004 f150 lariat 4x4 pickup with just over 50k miles on it. in less than 3 months two (2) of the four (4) power windows have dropped without warning. these windows have simply fallen down driving the vehicle without any bumps or accidents preceding them falling. what is worse is that my two year daughter was in car seat yesterday next to the back window that dropped as we were driving. what if some debris from passing traffic or semi trailer had blown by...this would have been a major catastrophe. and all ford can say is...sorry, it will cost you $400 to fix. well, that isn't good enough. something needs to be done about it. far too many incidents like this are happening. see the following hyperlink for others with similar problems. http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/f-150/2004/windows_windshield/window_does_not_roll_up.shtml. *tr

I have a 2004 ford f150, with a 5.4l engine. i went to have battery replaced and after replacement the engine would not idle. the repair firm i had taken it to, called champion ford in sandy, utah and the technician told them ford had a service bulletin out saying that the vehicle might not idle and the engine will shut down after the battery has been disconnected and replaced. they had to take my truck over there and the computer had to be reprogrammed. what is a person to do, have the computer reprogrammed every time the battery dies or is replaced? sounds to like ford should have had a recall to correct the problem. that's a nasty surprise for anyone. *tr

The vehicle wrench light came on and the engine quit. had i been on a freeway, a serious accident might have occurred. i called the warranty service for a wrecker as it was still in warranty. about 40 minutes later, the wrecker arrived and the driver asked me if i had tried to restart the engine. i hadn't, tried, and it started. i researched the internet and found some information including a suggestion to disconnect the battery to reset the computer. unfortunately, i did that and when i took it to the dealer the following tuesday they couldn't tell what caused the problem. it happened again on march 25, 2009. again, i was glad i was on a side street. i will take the truck to the dealer tuesday even though the warranty has expired as this could be a very serious problem on a highway. *tr

2004 ford f150 fx4 supercrew. there is an intermittent buzzing noise inside the cab when the truck is idling in drive. the noise usually happens, at a stop, after drving on the expressway for 20 minutes or more. it sounds like some sort of sensor getting hot possibly overheating. the noise usually goes away after the vehucle cools down. however, during summer driving the frequency of incidents is higher.

Safety issue, in cab electrical failures. feb 4th 2006, it rained 1.5 inches. my truck sat in the rain with all the windows up. in the evening i opened the door and drove away. as i had jumped in the truck, i had realized i did not have any dome lights. as i drove away (engine running fine), i realized i did not have any readouts on my instrument cluster and several other things not working. about 10 miles later, i hit a bump in the road and all my non-working items began working. the only side effect was my tripometer quit working. at this time, september 14, 2006 i continue to have this problem. specifically when it rains or is humid. i currently have driven my truck approx 200 miles in the past 4 days without any of these items working. during these 6 months, i would approximate this issue as 1x per week problem, with the resolution being a hard hit on the dash while i am driving. however, i am at the point now where hitting the dash does not solve the problem. here is a list of things not working when i have this failure. the air bag light blinks upon start up then stays illuminated. no dome lights no speedometer no tripometer no odometer no tach no fuel no engine temp no operating volts no oil pressue no audible alarm the key is in the ignition no audible alarm when the lights are left on no auto power locks no power windows (therefore stuck in position of last normal operation) no radio no ac no defrost (problem occurs when humidity is high = fogging windows.) i feel i have some safety issues that make this truck unsafe. i am at 50,000 miles warranty, how do i get the mfg to fix correctly, for free. *nm

Mice have eaten through the wires to my fuel sending unit. several months ago the did ate through many wires in my engine compartment. it is my view that this presents a severe potential for fire which could easily injure or kill. these have been expensive repairs that could have been prevented if ford had not skimped on protection of their wiring harnesses. i can't believe that ford that claims their vehicles are built ford tough can't be protected from a small rodent. the first incident in august of 2005 cost over $1500 to repair and this second incident is estimated at approx $500. *nm
