Defect SummaryCertain aftermarket fuel filters sold under the purolator brand name, p/n f65277, shipped from january 16 through june 2, 2006, for use on the above listed passenger vehicles. due to incorrect design, the quick connectors may not fully seat with the tube interface, even though the person making the connection may believe that the quick connector is fully attached.
Consequence SummaryFailure of this connection could lead to fuel spillage and, in the presence of an ignition source, a fire could occur.
Corrective SummaryUfi will notify owners and replace the filters free of charge. the recall began on august 4, 2006. owners may contact ufi filters usa at 800-230-5876.
NotesThis recall only pertains to ufi filters usa (purolator) aftermarket fuel filters and has no relation to any original equipment installed on the listed passenger vehicles.customers may contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

Defect SummaryFord is recalling certain 1997 through 2003 model year ford f-150, 2004 model year ford f-150 heritage, 1997 through 1999 model year f-250 less than 8,500 lbs. gross vehicle weight rating (gvwr), and 2002 and 2003 lincoln blackwood vehicles manufactured from june 20, 1995, through august 4, 2004, originally sold, or currently registered in, connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin, and the district of columbia. prolonged exposure to road deicing chemicals may cause severe corrosion of the fuel tank straps which secure the tank to the vehicle.
Consequence SummaryAs a result of the corrosion, one or both straps may fail allowing the fuel lines to separate from the tank, or in some cases, causing the tank to contact the ground. either scenario may result in a fuel leak presenting a fire hazard.
Corrective SummaryFord will notify owners and instruct them to take their vehicles to a ford or lincoln dealer to have the fuel tank straps replaced with straps that have increased corrosion protection. early in this campaign, if replacement straps are not available, dealers may install a cable support under the strap as an interim repair or a steel reinforcement over the existing strap as a permanent repair. any repairs will be performed free of charge. the safety recall began on september 16, 2011. owners may contact ford motor company customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332. ford's recall campaign number is 11s21

EA11006FORD MOTOR COMPANY05/04/201108/19/2011Fuel Tank Strap Failure Due to Corrosion11V385000
One or both of the steel straps holding up the fuel tank and attaching it to the truck frame can corrode and fail (break or separate).if one strap fails, the tank may tilt and drop and possibly contact the road surface.if both straps break, the entire tank may drop to the road.if either failure occurs while the vehicle is being driven, contact with the road can abrade the tank and create a hole from which gasoline can spill.when the tank drops, it remains attached to the vehicle only by the fuel filler hose and/or supply lines, or in rare instances, by the skid plate, if present.in some cases the weight of the tank sufficiently strained the hoses and fittings and caused separation and subsequent fuel leaks from those connections.the fire hazard created by leaking gasoline is increased by the possible presence of sparks created by the metal tank being dragged along the road.corrosion of the straps appears to be caused by prolonged exposure to road deicers, frequently road salt, used to treat snow or ice covered roads.states in which large quantities of deicers are applied to roads during the winter season (salt belt states) account for the predominant portion of strap failures.vehicles in these salt belt states are prone to experience corrosion related failures more frequently and earlier in a vehicle

The agency has closed this investigation based on its review of complaint reports, discussions with complainants and field and technical data provided by ford.the subject vehicles are 1/2 ton pickup trucks and are natural gas vehicles (ngv) that are fueled by gasoline or compressed natural gas.the agency has received reports alleging improper operation of the natural gas fuel pressure regulator allowing release of excess amounts of natural gas into the engine compartment.ford reports that the regulator contains an over pressure relief valve that will vent natural gas should the pressure exceed a set threshold.the complaint reports and data reviewed by the agency indicate that an improperly operating pressure regulator can result in an overpressure condition and activate the regulator pressure relief valve.the released natural gas is directed through a vent hose that discharges the natural gas in the vicinity of the right front wheel house and away from the engine compartment's extremely hot areas/surfaces.owners are normally aware of this problem by the presence of an illuminated warning light inside the vehicle, odor of natural gas or the sound of venting gas.when the operator turns the engine off, the natural gas supply tank solenoid will close and the regulator will not release natural gas.at vehicle restart, the solenoid valve will remain closed to prevent leakage and the vehicle will only operate in the gasoline mode.a safety-related defect has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.accordingly, this investigation is closed.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist.the agency will monitor this issue and reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.

At 50,000 miles , and earlier, the engine warning light came on, the truck lost all power, and the power steering failed. upon taking the truck to the dealer, it was determined that the throttle body was defective, and needed replacing. needless to say, i think that this should not have happened at such a low mileage and should be covered under a recall. thanks for allowing me to vent. brent carnelli

Driving at 50 mph my truck dies. tow to a ford dealership (thomas ford, beverly ma.). diagnostics show blown pcu. dealer replaces pcu at my expense. finds that, or says that, the pcu was blown by the fpdm. ford does not have any in stock and 3 months behind in production due to bad economy. dealer pressures me into buying used fpdm because 3 other trucks on lot has same problem and they will buy part if i don't. 3 months without truck if i don't. dealer also says i should complain to ford motor company direct because (they believe) it should be a recall. fmc did nothing. not even expedite a new part. pcm was $970 part only and fpcm was $343 part only. fpcm cracked because mounted on dissimilar metal under spare tire.

My 2004 ford f-150 died in the exit to a local plaza blocking traffic from exiting. after about a half an hour i got the truck started and drove to the ford service dept. i was told the fuel pump driver module has corroded through and that this part was on national back order because of the number of failures due to the poor location of the module. i was fortunate to find the last replacement part in the western ny area but since have talked to other's all over then country trying to get the same part with no luck. the fact that tis part is on national back order should be proof enough that this is a serious problem. i was charged $375 ($160 for part and $200 for labour for a 15 minute job). i believe this could pose a serious safty hazard if a vehicle fails in the wrong place.

On mon. march 1 of this year i went to my truck, a 2004 ford f-150 to go to work and it wouldn't start. i had it towed my local repair shop and was informed later that day that the fuel pump control module, which is mounted on top of the gas tank, had corroded and shorted-out. this module is designed to regulate gas flow from the fuel pump and when it fails, it completely shuts down the pump...no gas means no go. i was then informed that ford motor co. does not have any and that the part is on back-order until may!! after calling 9 different ford dealers and getting the same answer of good luck in finding one as there has been a run on these in the northeast due to heavy salt use it seems no-one has any. i know this was not a safety issue in my case but to tell customers to wait 2 months before they can get their truck back is insane. and if it happens while driving it could be a major problem. i just feel ford should have been better prepared for this ...2 month wait is unheard of. *tr

The 'engine fuel control module' on my 2004 ford f-150 4x4 extended cab, 6 3/4ft bed, 5.4l 3v engine 4x4 has failed due to poor design. the module is located under the bed of the truck, and cracks when hit by pebbles that are inevitably kicked up. water then gets into it and it fails causing the vehicle to stop and not run at all. once the mechanic found out what the issue was, he then tried to order the part. the module is on national back order, 3 months i'll have to wait to receive it. this is my only source of transportation and i do not know what to do. i paid over $30.000 for this vehicle and now i cannot drive it because of a $77 part that i cannot get. ford should be held responsible for this issue and the time that i will not be able to use it. if it is on 'national back order', then obviously there is a design issue and a recall should be issued. 3 months back order is not acceptable. is ford motor co going to give me a ride to work, the doctors, etc while i wait for the part to come in? something has to be done. please do your best to look into this and find a solution. thank you again for your time and consideration. *tr

 1) my truck will still out when coasting to red lights or when idling. 2) when the truck stalls, i loose power steering and power breaks, yesterday it died out right on top of some railroad tracks and was giving me trouble trying to restart. it would say low oil pressure on start up, however that's because the rpm's weren't high enough to create enough oil pressure. it will then go into engine failsafe mode. 3) the ford dealership says i need a new throttle body and to reflash the pcm. however i have not been able to make the repairs yet because i can not afford them. *jb
