I was driving my 2004 ford f150 supercab down the street in my neighborhood on my way to work. i rolled up the power windows and heard a weird sound from the passenger door. i decided to roll it back down to see what was going on. as soon as i pressed the down button, the window just fell right into the door. it was a little frightening and could see how it could cause a wreck if it happened on the interstate. when i got to work, i got out to check it out. i could still hear the motor working, but i could hear pieces of glass and knew the window shattered. *tr

I was driving on the interstate at 65 mph when all of a sudden my window disappeared startling me. i had my kids in the car who were frightened by the gush of wind. it surprised me and i was not certain what happened my window was just gone on the drivers side.the window had fallen into the door. apparently after my research i learned that ford has had many problems with its window regulators failing causing this issue. this is extremely dangerous and could cause a serious accident. i hope for before it is too late and harm is done that ford will own up to this problem and have recall to repair the window mechanism that fails. if ford does not do anything than nhtsa should.

While driving on the interstate the drivers side window, without warning, fell down into the door. i heard a popping sound and the window disappeared. i feel this is a safety issue because of the sudden distraction could have caused me to loose control of the vehicle. i looked at your web site and discovered this a common problem with this truck and believe ford should be required to address the issue.

Power window regulator failure on passenger side window of 2004 ford 150 crew cab. the window fails without warning and falls down inside of the door. this can be a problem if the failure occurs during inclement weather or while driving as it did with my truck. used a wood brace to hold window up with plastic to cover in case of rain and duct tape until parts arrived. no window visibility and possible theft problems. i park my truck outside at work and leave the work area so i never know what condition my truck will be in or if it will still be there when i return at the end of the day. until i have the part and time to fix this, i'm not sure what could happen.

Drivers side window regulator failed, window 'fell' while vehichle in motion. electric window now is inoperable. ford will not fix under warr, or recall. part if very expensive and not a re-designed part, still original equip, faulty design. i cannot and willnot put the same type of part back in, so my window has been made to stay in the upright position. i believe it's a saftey hazzard to not be able to havea functioning window. and there are three other window that could fail at any moment.

I own a 2004 ford f150 and have had 3 window regulator failures, 2 while driving. the dangerous one was on the drivers side at night during a rain storm. ford dealer states he replaces 1-2 a week but is not yet a recall. he says it wont get a recall until someone dies. i think it is a known dangerous problem that ford needs to take care of but wont until a recall is mandatory. please recall this problem before someone dies and only then mandates a recall. thank you for your time.

My girlfriend & i were driving our 2004 ford f-150 on the freeway going about 70 mph when we heard a really startling, loud bang & saw my drivers side window slam down into the door. i thought someone was shooting at the truck or something & swerved into other lanes in a panic. we were almost in a serious accident because of it. after taking the door panel off & seeing all the wire cables hanging there & broken plastic pieces i did some research & found thousands of complaints about the same thing. this is a safety issue for us & others. we were fortunate enough to not be injured or injure anybody else. from what i have read, we should expect it to happen again which really bothers me. we have 3 small children & if this had happened or happens again when they are in the car & we get into an accident, we all could get seriously injured or even killed. this is completely unacceptable & needs to be recalled immediately. ford needs to be held accountable for putting out faulty parts before someone gets hurt or killed. we know there is a problem, why hasn't anybody done anything about it is beyond me though. and to add insult to injury they are asking over $400 per window to replace with the same faulty part. i'm not positive, but i believe it will happen to my passenger side window soon too because it has not worked right since the first couple weeks i bought my truck, not even a full year ago & its been making noises. recall immediately please!

While driving around 55 mph, front passenger window fell into the door with a loud slam. unable to use the window controls to raise the window. this is the 4th different window in this vehicle and final window to go within a year and a half. this is a 2004 ford f150 supercrew and the dealer states it is the window regulator as was the case in the other window failures. they say the regulator part (small plastic piece) that fails is normal wear and tear, however they no longer make that part, they have changed manufactures and the new part should not do this. the motor and the regulator are still good, however you must purchase both of these in order to get the new plastic piece, which is now an all inclusive part around 200.00 at dealer.

The drivers window regulator failed while driving, and the window came crashing down. i was not using or adjusting the window in any way prior to failure. the weather was cold and wet leaving water damage to the interior and causing difficulty driving in the adverse conditions. i was not dressed to be in 60 mph cold blasting air and my hands were having problems steering. the dealer did not accept responsibility for this. ford contacted me and accepted responsibility but only wanted to pay for 50% of the repair cost. this is not acceptable. my vehicle has very low miles and is in like new condition. after investigating the issue with the regulator, i was amazed that there are many thousands of ford owners with this same issue. and '04-08 f150's have the vast majority of complaints about this problem. many have had multiple windows fail. i had to replace the regulator myself as the costs to get this done is over $500 at the dealer, and over $400 at a repair shop. when i removed the regulator i was shocked at how poorly the parts were made. the design looks to be flawed as well. clips that can fall off. cables that can fall off small plastic wheels. and the power motor reels two cables up together. this is going to bind up and fail in a very short period of time. the motor reel had both cables tangled when i pulled it out. it appears to be designed to fail. this is a very heavy piece of glass, and the mechanism supporting this assembly is completely insufficient. it is obvious that it was not designed for extended use.

In 2009 i had a window regulator replaced in the rear of my 2004 f150 fx4 behind the passenger sea,t this year in june the rear window regulator behind the driver had to be replaced, and now in november the rear passenger regulator has again failed in less that 18 months. in both instances they were replaced under a warranty i bought at hall ford in newport news and paid each time a $100 deductible to have it repaired. i find it unreasonable that a part would fail three time in 17 months and since ford is the only company that makes the part i can find i have no choice but to get another ford branded part that i feel will just once again fail on me. there are many complaints on this on not only forums, but the nhtsa has received many reports of this issue. after contacting ford directly and getting canned responses that there is no recall no programs and no warranty. i feel as if there is an issue with either the design of the part or the materials used in the manufacturing of the part that is causing some kind of fault resulting in the failure and ultimately the replacement of the window regulator with a ford part only of the same design.

The power window assembly failed while driving 65mph on the interstate with my 10 month old english lab. i heard a loud pop and the window dropped. luckily it did not shatter, but my dog of course went for the window as most puppy's do. he climbed over my lap to the drivers side window nearly causing me to crash before i could get him back in place and get the truck pulled over and slowed down safely. i didn't realize that this was such an issue until i took the door panel off and saw the mangled cable and broken plastic pieces in the door. i started researching it via the internet, landing me here. it looks like the repair will cost approx. 300.00-500.00 per window. i simply can't afford that in today's economic climate. this is a very dangerous issue...please help get the vehicle's that use the flawed window assembly's recalled before people really are hurt and/or killed.

About 2 years ago my drivers side window in my f150 fx4 went down and out. didn't think much of it, now my passenger rear window is just grinding gears. my truck only has 48k on it and is well serviced. after reading several complaints i decided to put mine in since this is crazy. this should be a recall issue, it might not cause death but ford and parts stores aren't open 24/7 so you have a wide open truck to steal or steal your belongings while you window is down.

2004 f150 sc window regulator failure. i am on my third regulator in the drivers door now. yesterday i found the passenger window down and i have the truck in ford dealership now for repair. i have started using the old reliebile club on the steering wheel to keep from having my truck stolen when the window regulator breaks and the window is dow allowing anyone to enter my truck even when i have closed all the windows and locked it when i exit.

I parked my 04 f150 in a public parking lot, locked it, and shut the door. i heard a popping sound, turned around and my drivers side passenger window was down. i opened the passenger door, and the window had fallen down in the door. i tried to roll it up and it did nothing but make a grinding noise. from what i've read, it has happened to countless ford pick ups. i can't afford to fix yet, so i have a piece of wood wedged in the door to hold the window in place. there really should be a recall on this defect.

On 6-1-10 the passenger side power window failed on my 2004 ford f-150 truck. on 7-31-10 the drivers side window also failed. on each occasion the failure was preceeded by an alarming bang from the door, on each occasion loss of vehicle control was narrowly avoided. these failures were fixed at ford dealers totaling $ 656.00 on both occasions the dealer retained the failed parts.

I purchased a used 2004 f-150 truck 3-months ago and it was parked in the driveway for 2-days. upon opening the driver door i noticed the passenger window was in the down position and would not raise. my ford dealer indicated the plastic parts on the regulator had failed and dropped the window inside the door. i don't understand why. noone was opening or closing the passenger door or attempting to raise or lower the window. had this happened while the vehicle was moving or next to a passenger, the results could have been catastrophic. when i park and lock my truck, i don't expect the windows to fall out or down into the doors. this then becomes a personal safety issue and provides an opportunity for theft or vandalism of the vehicle. the plastic parts are obviously cheaper to use and not engineered for the stresses on them or the weight of the window. i'm out $458.00 in repair bills for a single window repair. two ford service advisors i spoke with said they had never heard of the problem on a ford. it's all over the internet but they have no knowledge of the problem? there should either be a formal recall or ford should make the repairs at no cost and substitute metal clips and parts rather than using plastic. reimbursement for past repairs should also be included. i'm thankful my vehicle was neither robbed or vandalized and that i discovered the problem before the storm hit my area. undiscovered, there could have been serious interior water damage in addition to the window repair.

Failed window regulator. actually the third over 1 year. first the drivers side window regulator failed, plastic slide became brittle, cable broke away and smacked the inside of the door hard enough that it scared me...i thought i had been shot at by a gun! did not lose control of the vehicle but if i had been in congested traffic, i might have. that was may 30, 2009. exactly one month later on june 30, 2009 the passenger side front door window dropped out of sight while driving along. today 6/29/2010, the third window drops out of sight on the driver's side rear door of my fx4. this time, it was raining. i had to drive home and cover the vehicle to avoid more water damage.

2004 ford f-150 side windows fall down. i have owned this truck less than 1 and a half years and have replaced two regulators to fix this problem. my concern is the danger of these windows when you are traveling along and they just fall down into door. concerned that a child will be hurt while in the vehicle because there is no warning, the window just falls and no more window. at that point you have no protection from the elements, how do you get safely off the road in a bad rain storm with no driver window or if a child would be in a child safety seat in inclement weather and you would be on a major highway. i know ford has remade this part several times but is not informing the public of this hazard.

Tl-the contact owns a 2004 ford f-150. while the car was sitting in the parked position the rear passenger side window involuntarily fell down. the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where the contact was informed the window regulator failed. the window regulator was replaced. the failure has since recurred on the front passenger side window and the front drivers side window. the failure recurred while driving on the front drivers side window and while parked on the front passenger side window. each time the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where the window regulator would be replaced. the manufacturer was notified and informed the contact they were not aware of this type of failure. the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 87,000. sm.

I have now replaced both the front driver and passenger side window regulators on my 2004 f150 lariat. the driver-side window fell in june 2009 @127k mi. the passenger-side windows fell today (6/17/2010) @ 149k miles. the costs of replacing the regulator in each case were as follows: passenger side: $$539.47 driver side: $500.00 given all the reported incidents of this that i am seeing reported on various websites and forums, i strongly recommend that the nhtsa demand a manufacturer's recall for this obvious quality defect that is: 1) costly to repair 2) creates a dangerous in-car situation when it occurs during operation of the vehicle. thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. -bec

Driver door power window fell into door, will not come back up. motor sounds as if it's running, but window does not come up, also some noise from inside door panel sounds like parts rattling around when window motor runs.

I have had all 4 window regulators fail in my 2004 f-150 super crew. one of the 4, fell slowly, but the other three dropped suddenly and violently, causing a me to be startled while driving. thankfully no accident occurred in any of the 4 incidents. however, two of the incidents occurred in below freezing weather and a rain storm, creating unsafe driving conditions until i could get the vehicle to the dealership for repair. ford is aware of this problem and refuses to accept responsibility for the defective regulators. they claim it is not a safety issue and there has not been a recall. i beg to differ whether it is a safety issue. the window has dropped suddenly while i was driving, sounding as if the window was shattered. being startled while driving is a safety concern as well as possibly having to drive with the window dropped in adverse weather conditions.

Problem power windows, within one week the drivers window fell to the bottom of the door, and next on the freeway the passenger window slammed down, apparently the cables are inferior. so how come no recall for this junk. ford wants 700 to replace with the same inferior parts. ford f150. and no i don't live on a dirt road and it's not a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

I have a 2004 f150 crew cab. i have had all windows fall down while driving or finding my truck sitting parked with the window fallen all the way down.. i have had things stolen out of my truck and the interior soaked. i have called ford customer care every time and they do not give a damn about the faulty plastic window regulators they are having so many problems with. it is ashame they are not being proactive beore something serious happens because of it. if my wife and child were lost and in a bad area and the window fell down with no way to get it back up she would be vulnerable. if a storm came and she was driving in an area with no refuge in the cold with a baby in the car, then what? they are also not willing to help pay for the repair even after the 3rd window had the same problem. i am furious they are not standing behind faulty parts the chose to use and will never buy another ford again! it is a very, very, very well known problem. at least toyota is standing behind their screw up. no wonder people buy japanese. it is very disheartening. please help do something about this problem before something happens.the failure mileage was 65,000, the current mileage is 80,000..............mw

Both rear windows in my 2004 ford f150 broke at the same time and the windows dropped to the floor. i have had these replaced twice already and they keep breaking. i was just sting at a light then heard something like a rock hit the side of the truck then the window just dropped it was the cables that hold the windows up snapping. i have three very young children and live where there are extreme temps. i cannot have my young children exposed to these kind of environments. ford is the only place to get these parts because they know there is a problem with them. *tr

The driver side door window broke. i was at cvs and rolled the window down and it wouldn't roll back up. my husband took the door apart to get the window up but it won't stay up. we have checked and are having a hard time finding the part. seems it's a dealer only part, we are checking junkyard because the part is almost $200 for the part, and this is the second time we have had to fix the window in this truck. the truck is a 2004 and i have had it 2 1/2 yrs and had to fix the window twice in that time. *tr

I own a 2004 f150 and had the driver's side power window regulator fail on my truck as have thousands of other people from what i am reading online. i was traveling 65 miles per hour when my window fell into my door. the day prior i rolled my window up at the post office and heard a crunching or cracking sound as the window reached the top. i too did not think much of it until my window fell in. to correct the problem i paid a ford dealership in loveland, colorado $400 to replace the damaged parts in my door. the old part is no longer available as i assume they threw it away. i believe this to be a major safety hazard as at 65 miles per hour in a driving wind a lot of dust/dirt debris entered my truck until i got pulled over on the highway. luckily i did not get anything in my eyes. ford should be forced to recall these regulators and refund peoples expense that have already fixed this. *cn

This safety concern is in regards to the power window regulators found in my 2004 ford f-150. the first window regulator (driver's side) went out while in north dakota. there was no warning just a loud pop, followed by the window falling in the door. the passenger side window regulator broke one week later to the day. when both of these broke, i was left with near zero visibility inside the cab of my truck while driving or sitting. if there is any sort of precipitation, you are no longer protected. also, the safety of my family, property, and truck has been jeopardized. another problem arises when you go to get the problem fixed. i took my truck to a ford dealership in jamestown, north dakota who new of the problem as soon as they saw my window. however, they were going to replace the regulator with the same part that obviously has built in obsolescence. why would anyone pay $400 to fix one window, only to have it break days later; leaving them stranded, hurt, or worse. with literally thousands of complaints on the internet, and many submitted on this site, it concerns me to wonder if this problem has caused a fatal crash or incident yet. maybe this is what it will take to have this problem looked at in detail. if ford motor company is willing to stand behind a plastic window regulator that has broke in my truck twice, and thousands of other similar trucks, just to save a buck so be it. i am just one person speaking, but, when is a buck worth more than someone's life. *tr

Window failure in my 2004 f150 ford pickup. window just falls down & tape will not even hold it up. this is a well known failure by ford & no recall. also, my automatic transmission is slipping for the second time. it only has 47k miles with these well known & documented pervasive problems. *tr

I was driving down the road when my window on my ford f150 lariat came crashing down two weeks ago( my child was sitting next to the window she is 6 mths old) & it distracted me long enough to look back @ the road & there was a car stopped to make a sudden turn & i couldn't slow down fast enough & i hit them in the rear. all 4 of us went to hospital with minor injuries. it was my fault the cop said but i told him about the window & he didn't give me a ticket thankfully. its still @ the body shop being fixed the problem was the window regulator & it is being replaced but the body shop manager says these go out way to much this is the 3rd one replaced on this truck, so i looked online & couldn't believe how many people have this problem i think you should research this & put a recall on them & make ford fix them for free this is definitely caused from ford trying to cut corners & save $ but this is a serious problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr
11/18/2009560001
This is a failure of the driver's side window falling down into the door while driving. this seams to be a very common problem for the ford f-150 pickup. while it has not lead to a crash to my knowledge, the potential is there. imagine driving down the interstate in crowed traffic and your window drops down without warning. your attention will definitely be distracted from your driving and during inclement weather this could be even more dangerous. everything i have read points to the same product failure. a recall should be mandatory before someone gets hurt. *tr

Right rear window in my 2004 ford f150 fell while driving home on i10 with a infant and a two year old in their car seats. i am really upset that ford has done nothing about this. we had to drive over 150 miles with the window down in approx. 107 degree weather in arizona. please make them fix the problem. exactly one month later the passenger side rear window fell down as well so now i have two pinned up windows because i cant afford to fix them, we are a military family with my husband serving the enduring freedom tour in afghanistan. *tr

I was driving home on wednesday, sept. 16, 2009, and the passenger side window in my 2004 ford f-150 pickup, fell into the door. i could not get it to go back up and have no idea why this occurred. this could have been a very dangerous situation, as i was passing a large truck at the time and thought that i had been sideswiped. ford should fix this problem based on the number of occurrences that i have now seen. *tr

I own a ford f150 v8 5.4 tritan about a month ago my passengers side window fell down in the door while i was driving down the road. it scared me and caused me to swerve while driving. this is definitely an issue. about a week ago my drivers side e window did the same thing while driving on a two lane winding road. it crashed down into the door scaring me and almost causing an accident. after doing some research i realized that this is problem many other ford owners are having and not just a fluke. something needs to be done about this before it causes an accident resulting in someone's death. *tr

On thursday, august 13, 2009, i was putting my son in my truck to head off to work. as we pulled away, he started saying something about the window. i looked back and the window next to him was down about 3 inches. by the time we got to his daycare, the window was all the way down. i had to go back home, pull the window up and jam it into place. i won't be able to take it in until monday. this is at least the 5th time a window has fallen on this truck in three years and i have also had to have the rear power sliding window motor replaced twice. the previous occurrences have been under either factory or extended warranty, but this one will not be. fortunately none of them have happened while i was driving like other drivers i have seen on this website. how many more people need to complain before the agency takes action? this is obviously a big problem as well as an expensive problem. *tr

I attempted to put my passenger side window down & it crashed down into the door with the glass shattering as it dropped into the door frame. approximately two years ago i had the drivers side window looked at it sounded strange on operation. ford dealers disagreed. one month later the window failed to operate & ford fixed the window at their cost. i also had them check all of the other windows because they too did not sound correct when operating and nothing was found wrong at that time. i am now without a window & will contact ford about this problem & hope they will fix it at their expense as i feel this should not be my responsibility for a truck that is only 5 yrs old. *tr

I was in the neighborhood, 3 houses away, when an oncoming car came. i swerved my passenger side mirror then struck a mailbox. the passenger window was down. in the process, on impact, the glass from the mirror exploded. when the mirror exploded, only then, the shattered glass flew into the window cutting a vane in my right arm. i bleed profusely for 20 min. i managed to slow down the bleeding but eventually went to medical center then to the hospital. glass flew into and fragments of glass penetrated the seats in the vehicle and clothing on the body. *tr

I have a 2004 ford f-150 fx4. i bought this truck last september and it has 42000 miles on it. for the past week my window has been making a grinding sound like maybe sand in the parts when i roll it down. today the window popped and fell down. i feel this is a safety hazard to me or any passengers. i took the door panel off and the pieces that look broken are plastic. i refuse to pay $400.00 to get it fixed. *tr

My drivers side window just fell open while driving and would not go back up. after investigating the power window unit had broken. 7 days later the same thing happened to the rear passenger window. the dealer told me this is common and is a defect but ford refuses to recall them. the dealer said it will most likely happen to your other 2 windows as well! $400 each to repair. *tr

I have a 2004 ford f150 with 39000 miles on it , one day last week i heard a loud pop and the passenger side window fell to the bottom of the door . this is the second window that failed since i bought the truck new , i have heard from other friends that they had the same problem with there 04 and 06 model trucks . this could be a safety problem if it was raining or snow . i have read on web sites that this happens to all ford f150 trucks and ford refuses to start a recall for this problem , plus they charge over $300 to repair the regulator. *tr

I own a 2004 fore f-150 crewcab. in june 2007 the driver window failed during operation. it was repaired by an independent mechanic for $262.20. in march 2008 the passenger window failed during similar circumstances. the same mechanic repaired the window for $266.91. in june 2009 the rear passenger window failed during operation. my husband and i have identified the failed part within the regulator and are seeking to repair it ourselves. we are eagerly awaiting the rear driver window to fail and hope we are not driving at highway speeds when in it happens. *tr

I have a 2004 f150 truck that my deceased husband owned. he passed in 2006, therefore the truck sits in my garage most of the time. it only has 28,000 miles on it. i drive a 2004 mustang. i was rolling the window down over the weekend, and it started graveling and suddently just fell in the inside of the door. i took it to the ford dealership where we purchased the truck and it cost $390.79 for them to repair the regulator and give it an oil change. i keep the oil changed in it even though i don't drive it much. why is this regulator not on the recall list. i have researched the internet and i see that a lot of folks have had the same issues. *tr

I have a 2004 ford f150 with 3140 miles. i was driving when the driver's side window fell with no warning, which cause me to almost hit on coming traffic. it happen so fast that i thought i have been hit that made me lose my been alert while i was driving. i almost hit a car head on and felt sick. i have seen in the web just how big a problem ford has with windows falling down but yet they say there is no problem. they are very happy to have ford owners pay $300 to $400 every time the windows fall and they will continue to fall. it will come that somebody will be hurt or kill in an accident just because ford in not doing anything about this serious problem. i do hope that a serious injury is not what it takes for ford to correct the window problem. *tr

 1. the driver's front window failed and fell down into the door. it will not roll back up. it has not yet been replaced. apparently a very common problem with this model of vehicle. as a rescue worker i see how this could be a safety problem if this were to happen while driving down the road. the window could shatter and cause a wreck. *tr

Window sounded like gravel was in it, then window fell while driving. seems to be a common problem on the 2004 f150s, and ford will not cover, and to boot..the part alone is over 200$ and of course they stock them....because they go out. volkswagen had a similar issue, but with their clips, but they had the guts to admit they were bad and replaced them for free.... *tr

I was driving down the road leaving work when my passenger side window rolled down on its own, tried to roll it up but all i herd was a crunching sound. was doing about 45mph when it happened, scared me a bit, because it happened so suddenly. today 5/7/09, however when i woke up and went outside, my rear drivers side window was down, i again tried to roll up the window and herd the same crunching sound, but this time i knew it was the regulator, since i had just fixed the other window 2 weeks before. the part was replaced the first time for $265.00 and im guessing its going to be the same price again. *tr

I have a 2004 f-150. the window regulator broke and the window will not go up. this is the second time this has happened. the first time my truck was parked in a parking lot not being used while i was in afghanistan. it was taken to the local louisiana ford dealership where they said it happened all the time. i was charged around $400 for the repair. about 4 months later the same problem happened while my parents were driving with my 2 year old daughter in the truck. i once again contacted the local ohio ford dealership and the repair cost is going to be about the same as last time. i talked with the service manager who gave me the ford customer care number. ford does not seem to care that this problem is happening. they told me that there was nothing they could do other than document my concern. i was given this website to file a formal complaint, and am amazed at how many other people are having the same problem. i have contacted the federal trade commission and filed a complaint with them as well as notifying my state attorney general. a onetime problem is understandable but for this to happen twice to my truck and seeing how many other people have had the same problem is pathetic. i hope the nhtsa inspectors see how many people are having this problem and force ford to correct it. please have ford recall this part before someone gets hurt, or a truck being stolen over a faulty piece of plastic. thanks *tr

Passenger window regulator failed for the second time, window slammed and almost caused an accident while driving. drivers one replaced 5 months ago. now being told that the rear two are going out as well and need to be replaced. dealership recognizes that there is a problem with these regulators, called ford customer relationship center and all they would do was offer me a $750 gift card if i agree to buy a new ford truck in the next 30 days. are they kidding!!! i have always owned ford trucks, but am going to look at the new tundra now as i can see that ford does not stand behind their products, so much for being built ford tough..... *tr

Driver side window made a pop while going down, the window stopped about halfway down and then would not go up or down, the window motor still operates, and the window is in the track. the operation cable the moves the window up and down broke off at its connector, resulting in the unit needing to be replace. this is a frequent complaint on these vehicles. *tr

2004 ford f150, 40k miles. driving down road, hear loud pop, then the drivers side window fell into the door. luckily glass did not shatter. determined that window regulator had failed causing the problem (loud pop then window falling into door). subsequent search of this failure indicated it is quite common. federal government should require ford to issue a recall to proactively replace these defective parts. could cause driver to suddenly lose control of vehicle. *tr

I was driving and went to roll down my driver side window on the way home from work and the whole window just dropped into my door never to be seen again. to my luck, it began to rain.....badly. as if getting wet wasn't enough, every time a vehicle would pass me going the other direction at an intersection i would get splashed with nasty road water in my face!!! it sprayed me so bad once when a vehicle passed me that i hit the curb and could have easily had a horrible accident or worse, killed someone on a curb!!! this cost me over $300 to have the whole motor assembly replaced in the door and sounds like it is all too common due to a poorly designed plastic tab that breaks. what will it take for a recall on this? some poor persons' child getting hit at a bus stop during a rain storm? can't wait for it to happen again. *tr

Drivers side window was down sunday, warm out, went to put it up and nothing worked, just a grinding noise. after removing the door panel , window regulator gone bad, wiring everywhere. after a minor internet search thousands of complaints about this part. apparently when they fail the window drops and in some instances the windows break, causing major damage in the door. this is a safety hazard . now i have to pay to have this repaired, but i will not pay ford for there incompetence and refusal to correct a known factory defect !!! 2004 ford f150 !!! i had reservations in buying a ford and now i know why,, same company,, nothings changed. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 ford f-150. the contact stated that all four window regulators stopped working on his vehicle. within two weeks of each other, the regulators completely failed. when the last regulator failed, the driver's side window shattered inward while driving approximately 65 mph. prior to the failure, the contact heard a loud popping sound. he took the vehicle to the dealer after the first failure and was provided the necessary part to repair the vehicle himself. he filed a complaint with the manufacturer. the current mileage was approximately 60,000 and failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

I was driving when i heard a loud pop! at that point my driver side window rolled down and couldn't be rolled back up. ford said they would look at it for 200.00 and that was just to look at it. i tore into it myself and found the window regulator to be broken. ford wants to charge me 198.00 for the whole assembly. this i believe to be rediculous. also my passenger side window does not want to role up with the passenger side control so that is inopporative. one more thing my cruise control doesn't work half of the time. my major complaint though is the window regulator as this seems to be a major problem with ford components and even the ford mechanics i talk to say this is a big problem. *tr

I have had to replace the drivers side window and regulator twice on my f 150 truck. as i was putting the widow up each time i heard a loud screeching noise as it approached the top of the door, then i heard the breaking of glass inside the door, then the window dropped completely down inside the door and it will not come up. this is twice i have had to replace it at a cost of about $400. this occurred on 02-25-2009. the first time was approximately two years ago. i searched the internet and found this is not an uncommon problem with the 2004 f150 fx4. i do not believe i should have to pay $400. every two years just to roll up my window. *tr

We recently purchased a 2004 ford f150 supercab. two of the windows did not roll down properly from that door, but did so from the driver's switch at the time, so i figured it was a problem with the individual switches. then later the next week, the driver's window and switch began to fail. the window may roll down, but may not roll back up when the switch is pressed. each door is sporadic with these symptoms. i read on-line at the volume of failures with the ford windows motors & regulator with this model, and wanted to submit my complaint as well. the windows have not completely quit working, but from what i read, it is just a matter of time. *tr

Driving down road at 70mph, went to open drivers window for ventilation and without warning the window just fell down into the door like a guillotine. i then proceeded to drive 12 miles in 20 degree weather with the window down to a repair shop. was informed the 2004 ford f150 power window failure is very common and that it would cost $400 to repair a broken plastic part because the entire unit must be replaced. i googled this issue and the internet is swamped with frustrated owners with have also experienced this particular failure. this is a serious safety issue that ford is not willing to address. *tr

Ford really needs to take ownership of their window regulators...not only is this the fourth regulator i've replaced in my 2004 f150.....i've also replaced 1 window motor on the rear sliding window. other friends also have the same issue and it seems fords window regulator problems are not car specific but are cheaply built and expensive to purchase for consumers. my next car will be a toyota. *tr

In the last 6 months there has been two separate incidents where the power window mechanism has broken and caused the window to be inoperable. this however is the fourth time this has happened. every window power window mechanism regulator on my 2004 ford f150 has broken all within a span of two years. it all started with the driver side rear, then the driver side front, then the passenger side front and now the passenger side rear. yesterday 01-21-2009 in the middle of the day while driving in the rain. the regulator gave out and the window came sliding all the way down, in the f150 the windows go all the way down into the door so the glass is all the way into the door pocket, there was not a way for me to manually pull the window up and secure it without removing the door panel. i was unable to roll it up at the time of the incident causing water damage to the interior of the vehicle, personal property and my son. my son was in a car seat in the rear till we were able to get home two hours later in the cold & rain. this is absolutely unacceptable and ford will take no responsibility for these faulty parts. four window mechanisms in two years on the same vehicle is not just coincidence. *tr

While taking my son to school, the rear passenger window motor made a loud popping/grinding noise, then the window sank down into the door. this happened once before to me (same noises in cold, rainy weather, both times) on my front passenger window. since it cost me almost $400 for the first window, i replaced the part (the entire regulator) myself this time. there is a little plastic piece that holds the wire in place that seems to have broke. when it did, the regulator got the wire wrapped up around it in a non-fixable condition. this is a major design defect that needs to be remedied. i still have the bad part if you need it for investigation. *tr

This is the third time one of the windows has fallen into the door of our ford f150 pickup. the window is paralyzed in the door frame after a regulator snaps and the window crashes into the door. the window will not roll up after this part breaks. each time this has occurred for us, it has been a different window. it is the regulator in the door for the rolling mechanism that snaps. we also very rarely open our windows because of the hot weather, so that did not cause it. it is ford using faulty parts on their vehicle. we were not hurt during any of the three occurrences, but this could be a potential danger for people while driving. *tr

At 37k miles and 35 month old, the passenger side window fell out of the track. the dealer replaced the regulator free of charge even though the warranty was up at 36k. at 39k miles, the driver side regulator failed. dealer ship had been sold and new ownership would not consider helping with the premature failure. *tr

I opened the driver's side front door of my 2004 ford f-150 with only 27,000 miles on the odometer and i heard a clunk sound in the door. the window was no longer in place and had fallen into the door. took the door panel off and confirmed that the window regulator had failed prematurely. it should last a whole lot longer than it did. i read online that this is a widespread problem, latent defect in the design, and ford will not fix it once the vehicle is out of its basic warranty. i need ford to recall the vehicle to fix this latent defect. *tr

My mother and sister were driving the truck when they heard a very loud noise and then the driver side window fell all the way down. they were unable to lift the window back up. this was the first incident. the second incident happen when i woke up last week on november 9, 2008, went out side my home and noticed that the passenger front window was down. i tried to raise up but it would not move, it appeared that the same thing had happen to this window as the one on the driver side. i took the truck to my mechanic to take a look at it and sure enough the same thing had happen to this window as the driver side window; the regulator assembly had fail which made the window fall down. in both instances i had to replace both parts; i have so far paid about five hundred dollars to fix this defect. i searched the internet and noticed that i am not the only person that has had this problem. *tr

Arrived home from work and rolled up both the driver and passenger windows. i put up my sunshade, locked the doors, and walked up my driveway, hearing a thump behind me. when i turned around, my drivers side window was down. i attempted to roll it up again, and hear a grinding noise from the door, with no window movement. after disassembling the door, i found the window regulator is broken and there is cable wrapped all around it. i did some internet searches to see if anyone had information on repairs, and there is a lot of information, as this is a very common failure. given the loud noise and sudden drop of the window, i'm very glad this didn't occur as i was driving, it could very easily cause an accident. *tr

2004 f-150 crew cab 4-door, 77,000 miles. in the last 2 weeks, starting october 20, 2008, i have had 3 windows fall into the doors of my truck. windows effected are the rf, rr and lr. the first was the rt front passenger window which fell in the door while traveling on the interstate at 70 mph, at night and during a heavy rain. when i attempted to crack the window for air circulation, i heard a loud bang and the window fell all the way into the door causing me to swerve and nearly miss a vehicle in the next lane. the failure also soaked the interior of the truck and many items in the front seat. i had to continue driving in the rain for several miles to a gas station for a plastic bag because the door panel had to be removed to get the window back up. the rt rear was next followed by the lt rear windows. each window failed with a loud bank and slid into the door while attempting to roll down the window. all 3 windows are being held in the up position by wedging screw drivers between the door and window. 3 windows in less than 2 weeks! the estimated cost for repair is 1500 dollars which i cannot afford. this poses not only a safety issue but also a security issue. judging from the frequency of complaints on these window assemblies, ford needs to take responsibility for replacing, through a recall, these faulty window assemblies. *tr

3 months ago my driver side window fell into the door frame. it was still under warranty so the dealership replaced the window regulator. last week the same thing happened to the passenger side window and i am no longer covered by warranty. it is apparent that this is a very common issue with 2004 ford f150's and ford should step up to the plate and recall these regulators. it is very irresponsible of ford to require their customers to pay for their faulty engineering. i was not even using the passenger side window when it fell into the door frame. *tr

I have had 2 window regulators fail on my vehicle within 2 months. the regulators have been on separated windows but both have been on the drivers side. at any given moment the cable snaps and the window falls down into the door. my first instance was the end of july while on a road trip. now it is the beginning of october and my rear window dropped into the door frame with 57k miles on my vehicle. i do have an extended warranty; however, why should i pay a deductible everytime a faulty part breaks. not to mention there are many people that don't have extended warranties. there are several reports of this happening. i have 2 windows left. should i expect those cable to break at any given moment? should we expect to replace all window regulators every 50k miles? ford need to recall this faulty part! it is scary and potentially dangerous to have the window fall down all of the sudden when you are driving down the interstate. when the window falls down there is no way to get it back up. everything in the vehicle starts to blow around and you can't see. i can't imagine what it would be like if it were raining when the regulator cable breaks. i appreciate any help you can provide. *tr

2004 xlt regular cab: under 14,000 miles on the vehicle and when i go to roll up the window the other day, i hear a pop and it sank back into the door. another bad window regulator! quoted $380 to fix from the dealer. if you read previous comments on the 2004 f-150 you'll see that this is quite the common problem. and for every post about window problems on this website, how many other people have this problem and don't report it here - 10x as many? 20x as many? this is obviously a widespread problem that ford motor company needs to live up to. the replacement part is exactly the same, so i guess i can expect another replacement soon! and to think that i thought that only getting a standard cab with 2 windows might help me avoid this problem!!! luckily, my incident occurred in fair weather. i can only imagine the safety concerns that i would have had i been in inclement weather. *tr

As i was driving through my neighborhood the passenger side window suddenly fell into the door with a loud thump. afterwards, the window failed to operate. 2 days later as i was driving on the interstate the driver side window suddenly fell into the door with a loud thump and afterwards failed to operate. this is a failure of 2 windows within 2 days in a catastrophic failure mode. i was not harmed in this specific incidence but this occurrence could be dangerous in poor weather. i do not believe the manufacturer will repair the failure even though this is a common complaint as evidenced by a quick internet search. *tr

Safety issue, in cab electrical failures. feb 4th 2006, it rained 1.5 inches. my truck sat in the rain with all the windows up. in the evening i opened the door and drove away. as i had jumped in the truck, i had realized i did not have any dome lights. as i drove away (engine running fine), i realized i did not have any readouts on my instrument cluster and several other things not working. about 10 miles later, i hit a bump in the road and all my non-working items began working. the only side effect was my tripometer quit working. at this time, september 14, 2006 i continue to have this problem. specifically when it rains or is humid. i currently have driven my truck approx 200 miles in the past 4 days without any of these items working. during these 6 months, i would approximate this issue as 1x per week problem, with the resolution being a hard hit on the dash while i am driving. however, i am at the point now where hitting the dash does not solve the problem. here is a list of things not working when i have this failure. the air bag light blinks upon start up then stays illuminated. no dome lights no speedometer no tripometer no odometer no tach no fuel no engine temp no operating volts no oil pressue no audible alarm the key is in the ignition no audible alarm when the lights are left on no auto power locks no power windows (therefore stuck in position of last normal operation) no radio no ac no defrost (problem occurs when humidity is high = fogging windows.) i feel i have some safety issues that make this truck unsafe. i am at 50,000 miles warranty, how do i get the mfg to fix correctly, for free. *nm

I own a 2004 ford f150 4-door p/u. over the past several years three of the four window in my ford f150 have fallin at different times ( window regulator ). ford refused to pay for the repair and i was told they know about the problem, however, were not going to issue a recall. this week my 4th window regulator broke causing the window to fall again while in a shopping center parking lot. i advised ford this was unsafe and how can anyone secure a vehicle with faulty window regulators. someone could lose control of their vehicle if this occurs during driving and this issue should be addressed. *tr

Driving on the freeway a loud bang and the driver side window falls into the door and will not roll back up. rear driver side window fell into the door three months ago while parked in front of our house. apparently the window regulator fails and the windows fall inside the door. upon searching the internet there are hundreds of people that have experienced this same problem with the ford f150 window regulators. ford is charging between $250 - $500 to fix the regulators per window. some people have had to fix the same window more than once. *tr

Two weeks prior to now i had to replace the whole track assembly for the window on the driver's side. driving down the highway, the window just fell into the door panel. this could of resulted in a serious accident because of the window just falling! two days ago, the same thing happened to the passenger side window. the windows going down when you are not expecting it is scary. these windows unexpectedly going down can result in an accident. i feel that there is an engineering defect in these window systems. i have both original ford parts that came out of the door panels. i called ford, but they told me they can not do anything about this. *tr

Two weeks ago i was driving home from work across the monitor merimack bridge tunnel in hampton roads virginia at 58 mph and the rear window began to go down without the control switch being used. it startled me and i swerved over and almost hit the car beside me. i had to get it repaired and it cost $454. this morning i was driving to work in the rain and the same thing happened to the right passenger side window and now it will not go up. the parts must be defective because i have only had that window down three times in six years and i have never had the rear window down that broke at first.

On saturday, 3/6/10 my third window regulator went out on my ford f150 xlt quad cab. i purchased the truck in august of 2008 and i have replaced 2 regulators so far. this seems to be an issue with this truck, there are many of the same complaints that i have found on the internet. i contacted wittmeier ford when the first one went out and was told that the window regulator was not covered under the warranty. the second window regulator went out in november 2009 and i had it fixed then. this is now the third regulator that went out, i went to wittmeier ford today and was told that they would not be covering this window either. please review this website for other complaints. http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/f-150/2004/windows_windshield/window_does_not_roll_up.shtml. *tr

Vehicle was parked in a parking lot overnight. the failure is that the power window regulators blow out, just stop working and the window slides to the bottom of the door. this is the second time within a year of me having had a different window's regulator replaced that this has occurred. to correct the power window regulators have to be replaced, its a dealer-only part so you can't save by going to a non-dealer workshop. *tr

I own a 2004 f-150 crew cab xlt pickup that i purchased used 1 year ago. since owning the vehicle i have had both the driver's side window regulator and driver's side passenger window regulator failed, in both instances the window was being raised, at about half way up the windows suddenly stopped and started sliding down its track instead of going up. the cost of repairing the driver's window was $590. to date. i have not been able to afford to replace the rear passenger window, it is held up with wood wedges. there is something wrong when units fail with less then 6 years of wear on them and it can be a safety issue if it happens while you are on a trip. i have had to keeping extra wood wedges in my truck just incase another window fails! *tr

On dec 31, 2008, while driving to dinner, i heard a loud noise and assumed something hit my vehicle. my window then began slowly sliding down. i was told that the regulator was broken and i needed to replace the entire mechanism (regulator and motor), i could only get the part through a ford dealership. the complete repair (part and labor) cost me approx. $380.00. on nov 16, 2009 (11 months later) the same thing again happens to my rear passenger side window. i was not driving this time. the vehicle was parked at my home. i received an estimate stating that i would be paying nearly the same cost as before. *tr

My complaint is for my 2004 ford f150 window regulator. i now have 2 windows that are broke and ford wants approx. $500 each to fix. the first situation was with the whole family in the truck, we heard a loud pop and thought we hit something, then the window just slid down inside the door. we were out of town and had to find tape or something to hold the window up because it was cold outside. the 2nd situation i was by myself coming home from work and pop again which made me so mad that it could happen twice. i had to take the door panels off and the windows are now held up with a rip cord and all the electric windows have been disconnected so we cannot even open any of them. ford needs to fix this poor design that they know about for free and recall this model. *tr

Own a 2004 ford f-150 4 door. i have had to replace three of the fourpower window regulators. all three were still under warranty also, the transmission hesitation/loss of rpm/ while driving more so on the freeway when the rpm's reach about 1200/1500 or loss of rpm on deceleration. the dealer would not look at my tranny. truck was still under warranty. now 1 year later my tranny has gone out. i have no warranty and not sure how much it is going to cost to get replaced. i believe this all could have been avoided if the dealer would have just looked at my tranny when i asked while my vehicle was still under warranty. mileage is approx. 98,684. less than 99,000. *tr

I have an 04 f-150 and just yesterday my power window regulator went out on me and now cannot roll window back up. i live in wisconsin and just my luck it has started to snow. i am very disappointed in the quality of my first ford product i have purchased in 15 years. i have been reading up on several hundred posts stating that they have had to replace this same regulator several times on the same vehicle. please advise as to what we can do to resolve my issue. i had to take the day off of work in order to locate a new regulator. i went to my local auto parts dealer and said they had to special order it. then i went to the next nearest town to a ford dealer. finally purchased the regulator for $200.00. after owning this vehicle for just under 1 month and having to replace something that has had so many complaints on, i feel you as a well respected company needs to step up to the plate and admit faults. please respond with what you can do for me as well as what i can do to resolve the problem. thank you very much for you time and hope to hear from you in the near future. *tr

I was driving my 2004 ford f150 on the highway when all of a sudden i heard a loud bang. i thought i had been hit by a bullet or ran over something that could have made such a loud noise. when i got home i checked my truck for any damages and didn't find any, so i proceeded to get my groceries down and take them inside. when i came back outside i went to the passenger side door to get the rest of my groceries when i heard another loud noise once again i went and check the truck and couldn't find anything but noticed that my drivers side window was down. i thought then i don't remember leaving my window down but i went and got my keys to close my window when, i turned the key to get the window up i heard the motor running but the window did not come up. so i took my truck to a body shop and the repair man said it could just be the regulator because he could also hear the motor. he then removed the panel and found out that not only the regulator was going to have to be replaced but also the motor. *tr

Three power window regulator went out on my ford f 150 2004 each within about two weeks of each other. after the first one, i took it to the ford dealership because it was still under warranty and they asked us to pay 100. about two weeks later another window went out, same thing... about two weeks later a third went out and when i asked ford to replace the forth window so i wouldn't have to come back and pay another 100, they told me flat out no. they said i have to wait for the window regulator to fail and that i would still have to pay for it. *tr

The third (of fourth) different window regulator broke recently resulting in another trip to the ford service department. there have been a total of three broken regulator cables break within the past year (last two within the past 2 months). this latest occurred while driving resulting in an alerting distraction to the driver. the window basically just dropped down into the door and would not return to its closed position. this particular window (back passenger side) is where we keep the baby seat and unfortunately our child was not in the car at the time. in all three cases the regulator assembly had to be replaced at my expense although this is clearly a manufacturer defect resulting in unsafe situation. vehicle is a 2004 ford f-150. *tr

I had 3 window regulators just quit causing the glass to just drop in my 2004 ford 150 lariat. my warranty was 23 days over and the ford call center as well as corporate offices, (313-845-6173,313-845-5761, 313-845-5831) flat out told me it was my problem there were no more warranties. i paid to repair 2 of the window regulators and ford did assist with the second on 80% of repair. but i have owned 5 ford trucks and the only issues we have had is with the f150. i have searched the internet for the past 5 days and i am not the only one, there are hundreds of complaints about the 2004 ford lariat f150 series truck windows. you could be driving and your window just drops out into the panel. its not safe. my husband's coworker ,said his wife was driving there f150 on the freeway with their son in the back and the window dropped and she thought it was a driveby cause the window was gone and there was loud bang noise or thump. this is not safe. *tr

The back passenger window on my truck will not roll up or down. it slides down little by little while i drive and i have to manually push it back up. i am afraid it is going to fall into the door and shatter. and it is a security concern since anyone can slide the window down from the outside and unlock the door. i have read online that this is a common problem with the truck and an expensive fix as well. it sounds like something ford needs to step and recall. *tr

I was driving with my driver side window down and as i went to roll it up due to rain, i heard a loud pow inside my door and the window fell all the way back down. as it turns out, my window regulator broke. after researching this, i found this to be a very common problem with the ford 2004 f150. this is very inconvenient do to weather conditions, theft, children safety, pet safety, and cost of replacement (possibly 3 more times). *tr

I had both passenger front and rear windows fall within a day apart from each other. it's the part that holds the window in place i believe they are calling it the actuators. the cable is breaking lose from this assembly and causing the cable to crinkle in the motor, so every part of that window gets destroyed. no incidents thank god, but this could have been a bad situation in other circumstances. i have seen so many complaints on different websites and still nothing is being done about it! i guess somebody has to die for ford to start a recall i just hope it's not me or my loved ones. *tr

2004 f-150 fx4 - drivers side window fall down due to cable - repaired under warranty . rear passenger and rear drivers side windows fell down within a week apart due to cable coming off tracks, or rollers. notified ford motor company of this problem and i was advised to take it to a local dealer to see if it could be a malfunction. dealers charge to diagnose generally and i should not have to pay for something that is not my fault, as they are rarely used, especially at the price they charge. i noticed a lot of complaints to ford for this same problem. please look into this, or is this a clunker they want you to trade for a new clunker. *tr

No crashes just incidents of window failure on f-150. all window regulators have had to be replaced due to poor workmanship. it is an obvious ford defect that needs to be addressed. the actual part in question is a small plastic piece, but the repair runs on average $400.00 per window for replacement of entire system even though regulator works fine. *tr

2004 ford f-150 super crew has had 3 window regulators fail since 2008. the most recent was on 9/2/09. the others were in april of 2008. in each instance, the vehicle was parked in a commuter parking lot when we arrived to see that the window(s) were down and would not roll up. we are fortunate that this has happened when we are not actually driving the vehicle. this could be a very serious safety issue if the window were to drop while driving in bad weather with a small child in the vehicle. ford needs to recall this item and fix it for free. it is a very expensive repair at the dealer. our particular truck has just under 45,000 miles on it. *tr

My daughter was driving my 2004 f150 when she heard a 'pop' type noise, then the driver side window fell down into the door. this is an extreme safety hazard as it is completely startling and can cause an accident. fortunately she was driving in the city at reduced speed when it occurred and no accident occurred. it did scare her as it was totally unexpected . she called and told me about it so i called my mechanic. his known repair history for the f150 indicates that the noise and the sudden window dropping is that of the window regulator breaking in the door. apparently this has been an ongoing problem and ford has undergone 3 revisions, or is on their 3rd model of that window regulator and this is a danger to all who drive when this occurs and quite possibly a danger to other vehicles on the road due to a possible accident occurring. . this product must be recalled due to faulty design as no window should do this. i want ford motor to replace both my window regulators, b/c if it has happened to one, it will probably soon happen to the other. and when my mechanic says the track record to repair this will cost a person $250 - 400, that is completely unacceptable. *tr

3 of the 4 window regulators on the ford f150 truck have gone out in the past 2 months. each time it costs about $350 to replace the part. as the failures occur, you can hear a grinding sound as the switch is activated, followed by a cascade of broken pieces falling down inside the door somewhere. then the window goes neither up nor down. if you check some of the auto forums, this is a frequent complaint for the 2004 model. by the time it is all done, it will cost me $1200 or more. the parts are obviously defective!!!!!! ford should make good on this problem. *tr

As many others, i too have a 2004 ford f-150 with defective power windows. the regulator in the driver side door has broken twice and the regulator in the rear passenger door has broken once. ford charges $400 to repair it. the service man told me that the defective piece is a plastic wheel with a cable. the part alone cost $190. 2004 was the year the ford redesigned the f-150. they obviously engineered a cheaply made electric window regulator and are aware of it but have not recalled the part. ford should be made to uphold its commitment to providing quality products. in five years, i have only lowered the rear window maybe five times. so the problem is not overuse. it's simply poor craftsmanship and terrible customer service. *tr

I own a 2004 ford f-150 fx4. i have had the regulators on both my driver side window and rear passenger side window. both went out at separate times but both while i was driving. this is a huge safety problem. thank god when this occurred i didn't have children in the back seat as the window fell so hard it could have shattered on them. this is my 4th ford vehicle and my family has been a true ford family for years my father wouldn't have it another way. it is just truly sad that ford will not acknowledge their mistake and faulty product and take responsibility for this problem. they should issue a recall on all these window regulators. if not i'm sure they will lose many ford families and customers over this. it is very disappointing. *tr

This is not a safety concern i don't guess, unless it happens when a child is by the window. i have a 2004 f150 supercrew the window just all of a sudden fell down into the door panel and would not raise back up. after talking to the dealer who knew exactly what the problem was by over the phone description said it was the window regulator. i went online and noticed that i was not the only one, i have read close to 200 post on this same problem. it is a shame that ford is allowed to put defective parts on these vehicles.these regulators cost $370.00 to be replaced and that's one door. according to others that have had this problem usually the other 3 window regulators will break within a year after the first. please make ford recall and fix there defects! *tr

July 11,2009, we have a 2004 ford f150 supercrew with 56000. we were in town and let the rear windows down. the left rear popped very loud and the window fell into the door. i have not fixed it. i talked to the local ford dealer about it, he said there is not a recall and would cost about 400.00. fast-forward to aug. 6, 2009 my wife was coming home from school(teacher) she let the drivers window down to let some of the hot air out. she got on the hwy. and started rolling the window up about halfway it popped very loud . it startled her so bad she jerked to the right and ended up off the road. before she could stop the window had fallen into the door. she is ok and was able to drive on home with shaky nerves. this is clearly a safety issue in which nhtsa ought to investigate fervently. ford needs to make this right and now before someone gets really hurt. *tr

There was no warning for the eventual failure of my window regulator on my 2004 ford f150. one day i went to roll the window down and the whole thing fell down inside of the door. after i was able to get it back up, i had to wedge materials between the window and door to hold it up. i have been unable to use this window for drive-thru and sometimes when it rains, my drivers seat gets wet because the window falls down halfway. i have been unable to have this problem fixed due to the cost of parts and labor, therefore i have gone months trying to just deal with the situation, until i could pay the $400.00 that it costs to fix this problem. however, upon doing research online, i see that i am not alone and that this is a common problem with ford trucks, therefore, if i don't have to and i am not responsible for the repair, i'd rather not be! i have also been afraid that someone will be able to get inside my vehicle because if they really wanted to, all they would have to do is roll the window down manually-very easy to do with it being broken. *tr

While driving my 2004 ford f-150 crewcab pickup truck one day, i heard a 'pop' (like a rock hit my window) on the driver side window, and the next day i hear it again. the next night my driver side window fell into my door while out driving and scared me so bad it made me swerve off the road. a police officer saw this and accused me of being intoxicated so i therefore had to go through a field sobriety and breathalizer test. the police officer apologized but it was very nerve racking to go through that. that night i took my door apart to find a jungle of wires in my door that once connected to the tracks that held my window in place. it is not repairable, but replaceable so therefore i am very upset. i have been working on cars since i was fourteen year old, and never have i seen such a horrible idea for a window motor. this should be recalled immediately and should be treated as a serious safety issue. i am very thankful that i commuted on back country roads this night because if i were to be on the interstate or a highway, there is no doubt in my mind that i would have wrecked and been seriously hurt or even killed. the noise was so loud and quick it is impossible to prepare for it and after reviewing the design of these window motors, regulators, and elevator cables, it seems as if failure is inevitable and is only a matter of time before they break. i just hope the other three windows don't give out before they recall them. *tr

While driving, i heard a loud bang and then the drivers' side window fell down into the door with a loud crash. it scared the heck out of me, as i thought someone had hit me or been hit by debris on the highway. this caused me to hit my brakes because i was very confused for a moment looking around for what happened. this made several drivers behind me slam on their brakes and of course honk at me because they could see no reason for the hard braking. after getting home and figuring out what happened, i looked up the problem on the internet an found literally hundreds of posts from other ford owners regarding the same problem. i also found it will will actually happen to all four of my windows because the plastic piece used at the end of the cable brakes due heat/cold/moisture. the replacement cable is not available as a separate part, but instead must be purchased as part of the whole motor assembly which costs approximately $350/$400 per window after the cost for parts and labor to install. *tr

I drive a 2004 ford f150 and i am now on my 3rd window regulator replacement. i have talked to many people who have had the same exact problem and we are sick of paying good money for a horribly made vehicle. it is a risk to carry anything in my truck because it could be stolen due to my windows falling down sporadically. i think a recall is definately in order. *tr

This is the third window in my ford f150 that has fallen into the door, the last two were fixed by the regulators being replaced. i am getting fed up with this, i looked online, and so far have seen well over 450 other complaints on this same vehicle. the first time it happened to the driver's front door window while i was driving. the window was rolled up, and all of a sudden i heard a loud pop, and the window fell down into the door. the regulator had to be replaced, along with some wiring that was damaged from the window falling. the second time it happened to the right rear passenger door. the window was rolled down, and when i went to roll it up, it made it about half way up, then again the loud pop, and then the window slowly slid back into the door, again the regulator had to be replaced. and just recently, barely a year later, that same right rear passenger window has broken again. this time i noticed it when i went outside to get into my truck, the window was down, and it wouldn't roll up, the motor just spins freely. now i will probably be forced to spend another $300 or so to fix the problem. i believe from the frequency and number of vehicles affected that this should be a technical service bulletin, but ford refuses to address the problem. *tr

May 20009 front passenger window had loud pop noise window slammed down into door and became inoperable. 2 weeks later the rear right side passenger window had a pop noise but this time only slid down into door. window is inoperable. june 2009, truck was broken into from the front driver side lock, & somehow the rear left window popped & slid down on the way home after filing the police report. unsure if the last window issue is related but when the front driver window was repaired 2 years ago under warranty the dealership worker told me that it was a defect ford has. *tr

Window on the ford f150 2004 model. window fell down and will not roll up, grinding noise. needs a new regulator but you must buy the motor also. cannot find a used one because it has happened to numerous trucks and you have to buy brand new. cost $400 to have fixed! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 ford f-150. while driving 55 mph, the rear passenger side window suddenly slipped down into the door. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the window regulators failed and needed to be replaced entirely. the repair work was not performed at that time. five months later, the same failure occurred with the front passenger side window. he believes that the failure was due to a manufacturer defect, in which they should be responsible for the repair. the failure still persists. the failure mileage was 52,000 and current mileage was 57,900.

2004 ford f150 lariat crew cab (four-dour) pick-up. heard a loud pop inside the front passenger door then the front passenger window just fell from the up position back inside the door leaving me without the ability to close it. the same thing happened to the driverside front window a about a year prior. i currently have 40000 miles on the truck and the previous event happened around 32000 miles. both times the vehicle was in motion at highway speed and scared the crickets out of me!!! *tr

Drivers side power window failed on my 2004 ford f150, making it impossible to raise window. incident happened while in rural area of missouri over 60 miles from home, luckily my wife and i weren't driving down interstate 44 in the rain. if this happens while driving at 70 mph, someone could easily have an accident. the glass falls inside the door panel, because of some type of window failure. it is not acceptable for many owners of ford f-150's to have the same problems. *tr

I was raising the drivers side power window on my 2004 ford f150 when i heard a loud pop. at first the window stayed in place about 3/4 closed then it dropped down into the door. i took the truck to my local ford dealer who told me it was the window regulator and he was happy to replace it for $388.32 + tax. i had no choice but to replace it. after i got home and did some research on the internet i learned that this is a common problem on both the 2004 and 2005 models and i can expect the remaining three windows to follow shortly. as common as this problem appears to be i feel ford should issue a recall on the part. *tr

Have had 2 window regulator failures on one of my ford trucks and 2 window regulator failures on my other ford truck that my daughter drives. i am down to 50% working windows and my daughter is at 0%! her last one occurred 2 days ago while she was driving and it scared her so bad, she almost drove off the road! mine happened yesterday! the parts have not been replaced, the windows are being held up with tape which won't hold very long. *tr

I was driving down the road in my 2004 f-150 and the rear drivers side window fell down in to the door. i had a friend with the same year f-150 that had this happen so i call him. he said it would cost me $450 to repair at the ford place and that is was a faulty window regulator. in addition, he said the mechanic at the ford dealership told him this was a very common occurrence and he did not know why there had not been a recall. he also said that this would very likely happen to the other windows in the truck and there is nothing that can be done to prevent it. i don't understand why there has not been a safety recall for this problem. *tr

I have a 2004 ford f-150. just yesterday i got into my truck and went to put the window down and heard a pop and the window fell completely down into the door. i went online to research and found out that this is an extremely common problem with the f-150. i would hope that a recall should take place given the amount of claims from f-150 owners. *tr

Power window regulator failure: this is the second power regulator failure on my 2004 f150. first regulator was on front driver window last year. second regulator failure was last week on passenger window. repair cost is approx. $450 per failure. i have a crew cab with four window. my research indicates this is a very frequent problem with f150 models 2004 through 2008. these failures can happen at any time. first time was on the highway during winter. my 2 year old was in the back seat and had to endure some very cold wind during our ride home (lucky for us it wasn't raining). *tr

I have a 2004 ford f150 supercrew and the rear driver side window just fell down and when i got it to the shop to have it worked on the driver side front window fell down as well. they said it was the regulator on the window that broke. this truck only has 37,500 miles on it and the windows are not used that much. i am afraid that before long the other two doors are also going to have this issue and once again i will have to go and have it fixed and ford will not own up to the fact that they have defective parts in the door window assembly. *tr
05/27/2009520001
Three of the four power windows in my 2004 ford f150 have had experienced window regulator failures while driving. all three have occurred in the past year. the vehicle has never had an accident and there is no reason the regulators should have failed from regular use. i checked with ford and there is no recall despite the fact that there is an obvious defect in design to lose 3 out of 4 window regulators. *tr
05/23/2009580001
It can happen at anytime and i hope it isn't monsoon season like it is for me when it happens. i was just rolling up my window and when it reached the top something snapped. the window slip back down into the door. this isn't the first time or the second, this is the third time around. check out any web site on ford trucks and this will be the top complaint. some may say that the door windows aren't a safety issue, only issues involving the windshield. for me the safety issue is theft, i didn't buy the truck with an alarm system for nothing. so, when the window pops and you can't roll the thing up i'd say there's a safety issue. driving in the rain with a make shift garbage bag window isn't so safe either. my aftermarket warranty paid for the fix the first two times, but a haven't had the pleasure of informing them that it's happened for a third time in two years. i'll be sure to mention the website complaints to them as well. i know there are a lot of angry ford truck owners out there that would appreciate if this safety issue was taken seriously. i know that ford has bigger problems right now, but with the amount of complaints i've seen about this issue there should be some inquiry to a safety recall. *tr

2004 ford f150 window hazard / broken i was driving on interstate 15 when all of a sudden the window collapsed... simply falling down into the door. i attempted to roll the window up, but window will not roll back up. my 1 1/2 year kid was getting pounded with wind. when i got home, i removed the door panel to find what looked like a wound up spool of fishing line. instead it was the window regulator that had failed. the very next day, today may 18, a second window gave out while driving on milliken ave in ontario!!! this is very dangerous and scary event when your traveling 70 mph and the window falls! ford really needs to take a look at this design and fix the problem!! recall. *tr

Bought this truck used with no warranty. within 1 year, 3 of the windows in my 2004 ford f150 have slid down into the door with me being unable to roll it back up. the first two times it cost ~$350 each time. i am now saving up money to fix it a third time. this third time, it happened to a window that was fixed last year, making this the second occurrence for that window. i have read numerous customer complaints about this defect. please make ford recall their trucks so this can be resolved once and for all! i am broke and driving around with a shower curtain wrapped around my car window in a red neck southern town! i cannot see out of that window! i can't afford to keep fixing this window with the economy the way it is and i'm out of a job! *tr

I purchased my truck used from the local ford dealership when it was three years old, it was a certified used vehicle. roughly one year later the driver window fell into the door and when i pressed the switch to put it back up, i heard a grinding noise come from the electric motor and the window did not budge. it cost me roughly 400.00 dollars from ford to replace it. this past weekend i was driving along and the rear passenger window did the same. i had my dog in the back seat of my truck and when the window fell my dog went straight for the window. luckily i grabbed him before he got any closer to it. thank goodness it was not a small child. this is a huge safety factor and ford should stand behind their product better and recall these problems because apparently this is a big problem. if a child gets hurt because of this problem the law suit will cost much more than if ford just recalls all the problem. thanks. *tr

We have a 2004 f150 with 30,000 miles on it. our front passenger window fell down while we had it parked at the airport for 3 days so no one was touching it and it was closed. we could not pick it up so when we got home we got the window up. we can not roll this window down and have it up with tape. we were told that it is not covered and has not been recalled but there have been many complaints according to the website autobeef.com. we have not fixed this problem because it is going to cost us $400 and we do not have that kind of $ to fix something ford is responsible for. *tr

I have a 2004 ford f150 and i have had nothing but problems with the windows. i have had 3 of my window regulators go out on this truck and its only 5 years old. i feel this a major problem with these trucks since i know i am not the only person who has had this same problem. first i hear a loud bang in the door (even when i'm not operating the window) and then the window drops. this is a safety concern since i have children, and for safety of the truck itself. i'm afraid that if im at work or school that this will happen and the truck will be vandalized or stolen. *tr

Ford lariat f150 while visiting a friend on april 20th, 2009 , my truck was parked in driveway, windows all up & doors locked. when i got ready to leave, driver window was down and it would not go back up. ford dealers already closed , i drove home. have searched several sites to see if there were others with this problem or complaints of this. i was shocked there were so many 136 complaints here site #1: http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/f-150/2004/windows_windshield/window_does_not_roll_up.shtml site #2 : :http://www.fordf150.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=47037 site # 3 : http://www.mycarstats.com/safetystation.asp?cars=1338942 why so many complaints but yet ford doesn't recognized it. we have been a long time ford owner ,but this problem makes me think i don't want another ford. had other window problem with rear sliding window not working, but always worked when took in to dealer while under warranty. doesn't work at all now. windows seem to be a big problem for ford on their trucks. what will it take a window dropping down and shattering and someone getting hurt from it or cause a serious accident .also defeats your purpose of locking it up, if the windows are going keep falling down. i will be surprised if i get any kind of response to this . i figure, like most , it will be looked at then thrown out. will have to take to the dealer in the morning. i feel ford should be responsible for this ,since it has been going on for several years with this year of truck. *tr

I believe that the ford regulator is a very big safety issue. a window that can just fall down into the bottom of the door with no warning. here is why i find it a safety issue. i live in nebraska and i deal with some pretty nasty weather . my wife and i are expecting our fist child and if we go somewhere in the middle of winter and the window falls down in a snow storm this could cause a threat to my new born. i believe ford motor company needs to step up to the plate and get this resolved. i am in the military and have server over seas, i am not a big fan of putting my family in danger. this is a problem that needs to be resolved it could but my family at risk. *tr

The driver's power window in my 2004 ford f-150 suddenly dropped down into the door and will not close. this happened while the truck was parked in my driveway. had this happened, while on the road, it could have well caused an accident - especially in inclement weather. when using the window control, the window motor runs; however, the window doesn't emerge from the door. this is a known and dangerous defect in 2004 ford f-150's, yet ford refuses to issue a recall. instead, ford charges $400 for repairs, using the same defective parts! ford must be held accountable for this! *tr

I own a 2004 ford f150 and on dec 21, 2008 my rf window came crashing down and scared me half to death. the window was rolled up and just fell into the door making a loud noise. i was an hour and a half away from home traveling on a 2 lane highway that is very hilly, curvy and usually windy. it is one of 2 hwys that lead in and out of a very popular offroad area called ocotillo wells. most of the traffic on that road consists of big trucks with trailers full of quads, motorcycles, buggies and family members. i seriously almost flew off the road because i was so shaken for that moment. it was so sudden and loud that i thought my window had been shot out. people do hunt in the area so not a far fetched conclusion. i got home safely and had the window repaired the next day. yesterday, april 5, 2009 it happened again. i was with my pregnant wife and 2 dogs on our way home. this time it was the rr window. it came crashing down in the same manner and scared us half to death, again. this time one of my dogs nearly jumped in my lap making it difficult to drive. the remainder of the ride consisted of my wife trying to keep one of my dogs from almost falling out the window. nothing like wind in the face for some dogs!!! my truck is in the shop again today with this same repair/safety issue. i'm writing this because i have read numerous accounts on the internet regarding this same issue. i'm very frustrated that this problem can actually cause someone to lose control of their vehicle and crash. i know this first hand because it has happened to me twice since dec 21, 2008. i still have 2 more windows that have not broken and have no idea when they will come crashing down. will my family and i be statistics because of and really cheap part??? or will i kill someone's family??? i am also not pleased with the fact that they are charging all of us almost $400 per window to fix the problem. ford should be fixing this problem. *tr a very concerned, jeff shores

The drivers side window regulator failed in my 2004 f-150 xlt. the window popped and then dropped while i was driving down the freeway. it was very cold out. a quick search of the internet will show you this is an extremely common problem with this model, and i believe it to be a danger to drivers. *tr

I have a new body style 2004 ford f-150 and just the other day my passenger side front window just dropped into the door while i was driving about 55 miles an hour down the interstate. there was a sort of popping noise and then the window just fell into the door. the situation startled me a great bit, but luckily there was no accident. upon further personal investigation i found that the failure of the window regulator was the reason for the window dropping. the cable driven window regulator is made up of cheap plastic parts that are obviously not strong enough to hold the weight of the large window over time. *tr

I have a 2004 ford f150. december 28, 2007 a thousand miles over warranty the passenger side window fell. no buttons were touched. it just fell. now a little over a year later the driver side window does the same thing. this time the same dealership, duval ford 9043876541 wants over $500 to repair the window. if this part is continuously breaking then why is it not on recall? it is not normal for a window that is barely put down just falls and break. that's not even considered wear and tear. that's just poorly made and assembled. these are just a few of the websites that i found with other people complaining or trying to solve this problem: http://wiki.answers.com/q/what_causes_ford_f150_truck_windows_to_go_down_at_whim http://www.fordf150.net/articles/idx.php/0/019/article/how-to-repair-the-power-window-regulator--motor.html http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/f-150/2005/windows_windshield/power_window_regulator_failure.shtml i just think this is ridiculous and needs to be looked into further. this should not be happening. not twice in a year and the same thing on separate sides. unacceptable. *tr

My 2004 f-150 electric windows keep failing. they fall into the door while i am driving and it happens with no notice and at highway speeds. when it happens it is quite distracting because of sudden there is a loud noise and a huge force of air coming into the cabin. when it first happened i thought someone had fired a weapon at my truck. the first time it happened the dealer fixed the problem under warranty but would not fix the other windows even though they admitted the problem was common with my type of vehicle. it happened again just after warranty expired and the dealer split the cost with me. the third time it happened i was on my own. it is a several hundred dollar repair. the problem appears to be a simple piece of plastic with a pulley that allows a cable to wind around a motor shaft. although the cause is simple, the repair is not and the entire door must be taken apart. the biggest problem is that the failure will scare the driver and significantly take your mind off the road. if a child is sitting next to the window, the event could even have more several consequences. ford apparently knows of the problem based of ford mechanic comments about the issue being common to the 2004 f-150 and the number of repair kits they go through. below the date is the most recent occurrence. *tr

Well its a window regulator problem or the pulley system that rolls the window up and down. i've had my truck for about 4 years bought it brand new and im having to replace 2 window regulators so far. i hardly use my windows and i have noticed a lot of others having the same problem where there window falls down into the door making a loud bang. luckily both times i was there to see it but if i wasn't i could of had tools inside stolen or the truck stolen. it would also have been very dangerous if i had been driving at the time the window slammed down into the door both times it has happened after i turned the car off and all of a sudden the window slams down. i see hundreds and hundreds of people on the internet that are trying to find a recall and there is no recall. the part by itself is 200 or more dollars that's if u fix it yourself. if u get ford to fix it then its another 300 or more. the pulley system is cheap and plastic the cables are always in a big knot and chips out of the wheels for the cables. the new one i got looked exactly the same as the first one making it seem to me they aren't trying to fix the problem. i would like to know if a recall is going to happen it seems like it will be an ongoing problem. *tr

2 window regulators have broken causing the window to drop into the door and not roll up in my 2004 ford f150 pickup truck. first time happened in july 2008 (driver's side), and the second time (front passenger side) just happened on january 3, 2009. both times while driving on interstate hwy while the windows were in the full up (closed) position. both times i heard a loud boom or pop and then the window proceeded to slide down into the door. a mechanic at the dealer has unofficially admitted to me that this is extremely common with my make/model and year and that it was his opinion this was a defect. i was able to have a friend repair the driver's window in july, but have not been able to financially afford to repair the passenger side yet. *tr

While driving in 100 degree weather, loud pop was heard as if something had been shot at the truck. wife swerved and when she pulled over found nothing wrong with exterior of truck. when she tried to roll down the driver side window the window just fell inside the door and would not roll up. forced to drive around in 100+ degree weather. plastic part on window regulator snapped and because we complained about passenger side making noise both were replaced. have two more in the truck and ford dealer will not replace them until they actually break. *tr

2004 f-150 window regulator failure, both rear and front driver side windows do not work and my vehicle only has 38,000 miles on it, both windows failed within 2 weeks of each other and the driver window failed when the vehicle was parked, the window fell down into the door so hard it set the car alarm off, had i been driving this could have been a significant distraction and safety hazard, ford refuses to acknowledge a problem with these window regulators but i have found numerous complaints/failures on the web where folks were driving and the window fell into the door and in some cases shattered. *tr

The problem is with the regulator assy for the windows. the first was the drivers side window with 37,513 miles. i asked dealership if warranty could pay for it and it was covered even though the 36/36 expired. the next window was the right rear (fell down into the door just like the front driver side) that was on 8/14/08 and 57,916 miles. i had to pay 342.55. now it is 12/23/08 and the right front passenger window fell down into the door. i called the dealership and they could not help me until tomorrow. now i have plastic and duct tape on my truck. i wanted to file this because i know there have been other complaints on this matter.

*tr

When i started to roll my window down it just dropped down all the way. tried rolling it up and it sounded like broken glass! i googled repair power window on a ford 2005 f150 and low and behold i found complaints.com and was shocked to see all of the complaints on this very subject! ford is making a killing off owners by using cheap, breakable parts and by not recalling this yet! this should be recalled. my window sounded like someone shot me and it won't go up or down. i have less than 10,000 miles on this truck and found ford made clips that hold it in place. unfortunately, you can't replace the clips you have to replace the whole window regulator. the question is, how did this design ever get past qualification testing? ford's design engineers should be embarrassed to have made such a poor part. after calling our local ford dealer, the service department says, yes, this is a very common problem and they keep plenty of the regulators in stock! what can a person do. ford wonders why they are in trouble with sales. *tr

Ford f150 2004 driver's side window dropped suddenly while driving with a loud noise. i removed the window regulator assembly and the problem is the plastic clips that hold the control cables in place. they appear to be cheap and fragile and break easily letting the cables come out of their guides and therefore dropping the window unexpectedly. luckily i was driving slowly in a parking lot but if it would have happened in a highway for example it could have led to an accident because there is a loud noise and then the window just drops into the door. *tr

Nothing led to the failure, the regulators just failed. at the time i drove my truck maybe once a week, as i was a stay at home mom. i believe i was on my way to kaiser for a well baby check up when i tried to roll my window up, it just dropped in to the door, never to be seen again. at least not until my husband rigged it to stay up. about 2 months later, the same thing happened to a different window as we were pulling out of the driveway to go on a camping trip. that was a good kicker for the 2+ hour drive. the truck didn't even have 40,000 miles yet. it's been about 2 years since then and i still can't afford to pay nearly $800 to get them both fixed. the second window regulator that broke isn't rigged as well to stay up, it still falls. so, it's great when it falls all the way down on my way to day care in the morning so my two toddlers can freeze. i love ford! not really, i wish i had never bought this truck or stepped foot in their dealership. but as long as they are getting my money, they don't give a

I purchased my 04 ford f150 brand new back in 04 from paul miller ford dealership in lexington ky. since that time, no real problems. in july of this year the passenger side window without reason or circumstance fell off track and into door leaving me to pay for a new window regulator. repair was made at crossroads ford in frankfort ky. in september of this year the same issue occurred with the driver side window leaving me again to pay for the repair when it happened without reason. searching on line, i discovered that many more owners of the same make and model have experienced the same. i have already paid nearly 300.00 in repairs after the esp. october 3, i contacted ford dealership who advised me there are no recalls on my vehicle and that they would not assume any financial responsibility for this issue. i can understand 1 window, but now 2 and there are 2 rear windows that may potentially do the same. i also believe there is a leak in the 3rd brake light on my vehicle where water continues to poor in; however, ford denies that as well. in both of these repairs at crossroads, the window regulators were replaced and no reason as to why both would fail. there were no preceding events to report, the vehicle was parked in both instances when these happened. hopefully someone else has reported this similar. *tr

After rolling down window to gain access into work parking lot in the morning, the window regulator clip broke resulting in the window being stuck in the down position. truck was then left unattended with personal possessions and window wide open and vulnerable to theft while i was at work all day. several dealers were contacted and then i finally found someone who could fix my problem the following day for $340. truck was then driven directly home and the window was covered with plastic to prevent weather from entering vehicle overnight. window regulator was then replaced with identical window regulator. this does not appear to be an isolated problem on 2004 ford f150 window regulators, and i am glad my case was not as severe as others (i.e. windows falling into door panels). however, i do think this is a material/ design defect that needs to be addressed with ford motor vehicles. ford truck owners should not have to worry about their windows failing each time they use their truck because a cheap piece of plastic is being used to save on cost. this is a simple issue that could be resolved by using a metal clip. *tr

While putting up the driver's side electric window in my ford 2004 1/2 (new style) f-150 supercrew i heard a loud bang and the window disappeared. the bang was so loud that i thought someone had shot out my window while i was driving. if i had been in busy traffic this could have caused an accident. fortunately i was on a 25 mph road at the time and no one was hurt nor was there an accident. the problem was with the window regulator cabling. the cabling separated from the window which resulted in the loud bang i heard from my drivers side window. from my research this is an ongoing problem. this problem has the potential for some very serious consequences if the driver were to overreact to the loud gun shot sound when the failure occurs. *tr

I was driving to the airport this morning to pick up a work colleague for an important meeting. as i was driving i heard a loud pop that sounded like something hitting the door. i swerved and nearly hit the car next to me. startled, i pulled over at the next exit to see if maybe someone had thrown something at my truck. there wasn't a scratch or dent anywhere. i got back in started down the road when the window suddenly dropped out of sight so i pulled over again and the found that it would not go back up. there was seemingly nothing to do at that point but take my suit jacket off and hope to not sweat through my shirt before out meeting. i picked up my colleague, late, then were late every subsequent meeting the rest of the day. as soon as i could, i took went to my local dealership who already seems to know what's wrong before i can finish telling him what's wrong. he tells me it's going to probably be in the range of $375 to fix. after renting a car to get back to my office, i checked online to see if this might be a common occurrence only to find hundreds of complaints about multiple windows on the same vehicles needing to be replaced. so, after nearly wrecking my truck, running late, appearing disheveled at my own customer meetings, and driving around in 100 degree weather in a suit and tie, all because of a problems that my (previous) favorite automaker is fully aware of, i'm so mad and frustrated that i can hardly see straight! on top of that, it sounds like can probably look forward to the same thing happening 3 more times (at least). the only thing i can think to do is to send complaints wherever i can find and keep copies of those complaints so that when the next window pops and startles me into oncoming traffic, i'll at least have proof i did make everyone aware of my own personal experience. this is such a potential danger and expensive inconvenience to the customer that i request a recall from ford to replace all window motor/gears before. *tr

The failure occurred when the vehicle was unattended. the failure is the window regulators on my 2004 ford f-150 crew cab. the failure left my vehicle unsecured with newly purchased christmas presents inside. my major concern now is if another fails for the same window or another window while my pregnant wife is driving and the window just starts falling into the door, how is she going to react and maybe cause an accident or even worse it happens while traveling in cold weather and having no way to secure the cold weather outside the vehicle. i understand from the my local ford dealer that they carry these parts in stock because of the number of failures and they keep in stock what moves. the only thing done for me to correct the failure was to have the parts replaced, ford's repair on this part is close to $500 before any taxes. after having the parts replaced, the tech showed me the failed part and its where a wire rope that controls the movement of the window attached to the window support and that wire rope attaches to a piece of plastic, the plastic is what broke and to my eye doesn't look like it could ever survive the life of a vehicle. *tr

I have a 2004 f-150 fx4 that has 6 power windows, including the backslider and sun-roof. i purchased this vehicle in dec. of 04. when the truck was at 35000 the driver window fell into the door, i live in the hottest city in az. the dealer was happy to fix the problem, but the parts were on back order, because this is a common problem for this year truck. that is what the dealer told me! the solution mean while, a pair of visegrips on the window frame rail, that actually work great even though i had to do it myself. they did fix the window under warranty, but a week later the passenger window hit the floor too. luckily still under warranty, but while taking the truck in for the passenger window the backslider quit working so they fixed it as well. 3 down 2 to go! two weeks later the driver rear window makes a popping sound and went into the door. #4 and would you guess 14 miles out of warranty, $388 later window is fine. one week to the day driving to phoenix az. a slight bite cooler then we are, the passenger rear window popped and slowly went down. after an hour in a wal-mart parking lot i got the window clamped up. the dealer told me to wait for a recall and i will be paid for the two windows at $388 a pop. i was also told that it is a design change to the regulator in the window. a plastic clip is used on the cable that pulls the window up/down. my other question is do they replace the regulator with the same type and if so when will it break again. *nm

*nm

Second window drive failure in 6 weeks. very loud bang from door (sounds like truck is hit by large rock/hard object) which is very startling, then window glass slides down into door. on the freeway this is extremely distracting and dangerous. the first window failure (one month ago) cost me $430.00 at ford dealer to repair. i was never informed that this was a frequent problem. after second failure in 4 weeks, i went on the web and discovered that this is happening to thousands of 2004-2005 f-150's, and ford refuses to address it! i'm waiting to talk to dealers service manager about second failure to try and get ford to pay for the repairs, as well as inspect the other windows and repair them as necessary. it's only a matter of time before they fail as well. - this is a well-known design defect!!! ford has already changed the design/part # for the faulty part (regulator/cable assy) three times- and it still fails without warning! these trucks should be recalled and fixed at ford's expense!!!! *tr

While driving in a funeral processional in the rain my back passenger window just fell. my family were soaked, we did find a trashbag and taped it up but i missed part of my mother-in-law's funeral so my wife was upset beyond words. i thought that it just jumped the track but no such luck. so i ridged it up till i could take it to the shop. a month later my drivers front window fell while driving in 60 degree weather. i took it to the dealer and the warranty had just expired . $860.00 out of pocket. i went home and looked it up on the internet and found hundreds of complaints on this regulator that ford should take responsibility for and recall. other models has not had this problem. so as long as i own this truck i will have to drive around waiting for the next window to fall. *tr

Passenger side power window collapsed into the door while driving. briefly heard a pop/bang in the door thinking something hit the door, then the window went straight down without control. now i have no way of retrieving the window back up and securing it. plus unable to secure my vehicle or keep the elements of weather out of my truck. i will not use the truck to pick up my you children in this condition. i presume that this could be a significant safety hazard in similar situations with a distracted driver loosing attention to driving or in a severe weather condition. i will take it to a ford service dealer and share my displeasure with this incident. for my safety and everyone else safety, i will get this repair. this incident is severe enough to hurt or kill someone if it is not addressed. i am still shaking with fear while typing this complaint. *tr

While driving on the freeway my passenger side window unexpectedly fell through the door. when i pressed the button to open the window a tad the regulator broke and the window began to fall. a week later the second back passenger window came crashing down also. thankfully it was while i was at the store and the car was stationary. i had to fix this out of pocket last week for about 700.00 for both windows, the repair guy at ford said this wasn't covered or issued as a recall. now fastforward to yesterday, my side driver window comes falling down and i had to use a doorstop to hold it up. i feel this is a widespread issue that ford has not come to terms with. this should have been a recall issued years ago. checking the internet there a numerous sites where angry customers of ford are experiencing this problem way to frequently.(ex. http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/f150/2004/windows_windshield/window_does_not_roll_up.shtml) we have always bought ford, but with the recent problems this might change. *tr

While driving down the highway, the driver's side window suddenly dropped into the door and couldn't be raised. it was raining at the time and quite chilly which made driving hazardous as well as uncomfortable. since this occurred on sunday during the new year's holiday on an isolated stretch of highway no immediate relief was available. after driving 40 miles under these conditions i was able to purchase some plastic and duct tape to make a temporary repair. the repair made obscured my vision on the driver's side, again a hazardous situation. the part that needed replaced was a window assembly regulator. *tr

On 25 march 2011, i encountered a loud pop in the door on the driver-side of my 2004 ford f-150 regular cab truck, and the window disappeared into the door frame. i removed the door panel and discovered that the cable mechanism within the window regulator had failed. without further delay i turned the truck into my ford dealer to have the window regulator repaired, and received a repair bill of $301.86 (the regulator alone cost $159.36); the ford advisor stated that they had the part in stock since the window regulator failure was a common occurrence. i did not inspect the regulator to determine why the cable mechanism had failed. after this incident i visited www.nhtsa.gov to determine the extent of the problem, and learned that more than 240 other 2004 ford truck owners had experienced the exact same problem in one door or the other in their trucks. as might be expected when inferior parts are installed in a vehicle, such as the window regulators in the 2004 ford trucks, the passenger-side window regulator also failed. in the second instance i determined that a small, cheap piece of molded plastic on the window regulator had failed because of the immense pressure applied to it when the window was being raised. details of that failure are listed elsewhere on this website. *tr

In late-june 2012 a loud clunk/thud/pop/small explosion occurred in the passenger-side door of my 2004 ford f-150 regular cab truck, while the vehicle was stopped and idling, and the window dropped into the door frame. when i returned home i removed the door panel and discovered that a small piece of molded plastic, 1 1/8 x 1 7/8 (probable cost to ford about 39 cents) on the window regulator had disintegrated/failed, allowing the regulator cable to release the window. i have found a replacement window regulator on the internet for $70 (ford charges $175 for the part) and will repair the defective item myself. i notified ford of the failure of a less-than-quality plastic piece on the regulator and asked for reimbursement. ford responded: there are no factory warranties or programs in effect on your vehicle that would provide financial assistance for your current vehicle concern. however, they did add: recommend that you keep your repair receipts in case ford initiates a recall or customer satisfaction program in the future based on customer feedback or further engineering review of similar complaints. i see from the large number of complaints on this website by ford truck owners that i am but one of hundreds who have been affected, and obviously, there will be hundreds more; the odds are very high that the majority of the plastic pieces on ford truck window regulators will fail sooner or later, and i seriously doubt that the 2004 ford f-150 truck is the only model year that contains plastic parts in the window regulators. $70 to replace a failed piece of plastic that initially probably cost ford about 39 cents to produce is a sad commentary on quality.
