My fuel control module shorted out which caused my pcm to be erased. it seems to be a common problem after researching it, but no recall has been issued. my pregnant wife was driving my truck and lost all power. this resulted in a near accident due to having no power steering and less brake control. if this is such a common problem with the placement of the control module why has this not been recalled. $1000 later i hope this doesn't happen again. *tr

The torque converter on my 2005 ford f-150 has had two torque converters fail in the drive train. one failed within the 3 year or 36,000 mile warranty period. the second torque converter failed around 50,000 miles. i believe this information warrants an investigation into the ford line of torque converters for the ford f-150 truck line.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. the contact stated that the four wheel drive feature malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to engage the four wheel drive system while driving 60 mph. the front end of the vehicle shook violently when the failure occurred. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer where the dealer replaced the four wheel drive sensor because water had entered the old sensor and caused the malfunction. the replacing of the four wheel drive sensor did not remedy the issue. the contact called the manufacturer and they advised the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer. the failure mileage was 70,000.

I was coming to a stop when the transmission would not release from gear and then finally did with a loud clunk. when i went to drive forward the engine revved up and then jumped into gear jumping the truck forward. there was no warning for a transmission failure it all of a sudden lost all gears. the mechanic at the ford dealership said it was a known issue to them and that one of the internal seals probably broke and caused a catastrophic transmission failure.

2005 ford f150, 139,000 miles. truck started making grind/buzz noise intermitingly and would stop when accelarator was released. took to ford dealer and was told 4wd vacuum switch damged from water and driver side independent wheel end needed replaced. new switch has water shroud to prevent water damage which would indicate this is a known problem.

A spark plug blew out of the cylinder head, destroying the coil above it. no hint of any problems prior to blow out.
12/27/2010129650
On certain model ford vehicles using their 5.4 liter engine (which includes ford/lincoln models) the spark plugs are of a 3 part design which will separate and shoot out of the top of the engine while running causing serious injury or even death and extensive damage to the engine. ford is aware of this problem as i have been told by several service managers but ford refuses to do anything about it because for every vehicle repair is a 1500.00 repair bill for the dealer/ford. for people whom don't have 1500.00 to replace spark plugs which should be a 50.00 repair, they remain at risk.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. the contact stated that she heard a grinding noise while driving at any speed. the noise was heard intermittenly. the dealer could not duplicate the failure. the vehicle later locked into 4-wheel drive while driving less than 55 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they found that the solenoid and the switch for the 4-wheel drive were defective. the contact paid $185 to have the vehicle repaired. the dealer was unsure if the repair would correct the failure because the electrical switch was susceptible to water damage. the current and failure mileages were less than 37,217. updated 08/11/09.*jb

While driving, the vacuum solenoid for the 4 wheel drive tries to engage the 4 wheel drive - even at highway speeds- resulting in a horrible sound. the sound was like i had run over a shopping cart or hit something in the road and was dragging it under the truck. this happened 5 times in two days in less than 30 miles of total driving. the noise is so loud and alarming that it made me immediately apply the brakes and pull to the side of the road because i thought i had hit something/someone. at first i wondered if my muffler or drive shaft or some other part had fallen off of the truck. this false engagement of the 4 wheel drive happens without any warning in all kids of driving conditions (slow, fast, breaking or accelerating). a new, redesigned (now has a cover on it to keep moisture out- which was causing the failure) vacuum solenoid was installed on truck - a $27.00 part. dealership kept old part. tech. at dealer told me that this part will go bad at some point and need replacing on all the trucks with the part. he said not if but when. ford knew about the problem - hence the redesigned part. ford has not notified owners of this part and it's impending failure. *tr

2005 ford f150 truck 4x4 auto transmission experienced mechanical failure with no warning. lost forward low gears. only has 57k miles. truck was always dealership serviced and maintained as recommended. no harsh weather conditions experienced. no heavy towing done. replaced with rebuilt transmission. old part will be made available.

2005 f150 stalled without warning while driving sometimes at highspeed on the highway. it happened very frequently and the check engine light finally came on so i took it to the dealership for repair. i was told that the throttle body would need replacing at approx $750.00 and was told that this is a typical repair for this vehicle. i understand many others have had this issue. prior to repairing i stalled several times in the high speed lane and had to pull over to the left hand of the 4 lane highway which i was fortunate not to be hit. this seems to be a very serious safety issue.

I own a 2005 ford f150 5.4 automatic w/ 63,000. unexpected failure of transmission caused by, as dealer stated, a degradation of a bearing which came loose and became lodged in side of the transmission. i replied to the ford service manager does this mean that what caused the failure was a defective part, he answered yes and gave me the quote for a new transmission. i have done some research and have found over 6,000 cases of customers with same issue( no towing, proper maintenance intervals and documentation, etc.) yet investigation is being conducted to find solution to the premature failure. talked to 3 nationally known transmission repair facilities and they also have stated numerous problems with the 4r75w and 4r70e/w transmission that ford is installing in its vehicles, primarily with the exact same symptoms.

Transmission failed while driving. leaving me stranded on the highway. front bearing went out ,root cause of failure according to aamco mechanic. truck only has 49,000 miles. truck has always had a vibration . lance cunningham ford always pointed to tires, drive shaft. i believe that the true problem has now came to light. unfortunately the original warranty was for 3 years or 36,000 miles. *tr

I bought this truck with 48,000 miles on it. it had a bad shake in the rear area. also a bad brake shimmy. took to ford dealership i bought it. couldn't find anything wrong. told normal! i worked in the service dept of a ford dealership i know normal. 53,000 or so miles bad clunking from transfer area wouldn't go into 4 wheel drive 1/2 the time took to ford, told nothing wrong again. 72,000 miles transmission goes out. told nothing could be done, out by 2000 miles. i was a service manager for a ford dealership they could do a supplement on the warranty. i asked for 1/2 of cost told no. even after documentation of all the services and complaints told to bad so sad. this truck has had transmission troubles, 4 wheel drive trouble, the power window switch fell apart in the door and a bad brake shimmy even after i had a 4 wheel brake job done, its still there. no help from ford at all! *tr

5.4l, supercrew-- engine was replaced by ford at 38,000 miles (after complaint to ford cust svc) due to injector failure and cylinder hydra-lock. now at 46,000 miles, complete transmission failure. only used for daily driver, no towing, never off-road. transmission failed on initial start on 60 degree morning, no pre-failure indicators. paid $2800 for transmission rebuild. i have noticed a fairly large number of problems reported on sub-standard factory transmission and engine parts on ford trucks. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. while driving 40 mph he stated that the gear shift indicator disengaged when he came to a stop, which caused the vehicle to jerk hard. there was also an increase in the rpm, which caused the vehicle gear shift indictor to engage without warning. the contact stated the transmissions slipped out of gear would not accelerate. the failure mileage was 9,000 and the current mileage was 19,000.

Upon acceleration our f150 excab makes a grinding noise. also, would not disengage from 4hi, had to stop and start a few times to get it to disengage. talked to ford dealer here and he said if the grinding noise happens again bring it in while it is happening so a mechanic can go for a ride. the problem is it is very sporadic and probably won't happen when there is a mechanic in the truck. *tr

Please help a consumer! i question the safety and long term value of the new ford f150 trucks my name is jim and i am writing you as a last ditch effort to inform the public about a production issue with the ford f150 trucks that vibrate under normal driving conditions. about three months ago i purchased a new f150 and from that point i have had a vibration and transmission issue. ford has not been able to correct it and in the process i found that the dealership i bought the truck from forged some invoice documents. i was shocked to find this problem all over the country when i started to look into it. you can see for yourself if you search google for topics like 2005 f150 vibration. if you would like, i could send you a list of websites to help. in all fairness to ford they deserve a chance to inform the public about this and i am in the process of working with a lawyer to get my money back. i have attached a copy of my nightmare to this email and just wanted to let you know i have followed every protocol set by ford. i have also noticed that ford just likes to have problems delayed and expect people to run out of money when trying to recover their original purchase. you will also find emails attached from people across the country with the same problem. this story is not a waste of your time. please feel free to search the internet, you will find all the supporting information you need. can you please find the time to help get the word out and make things right? i just want my money back and do not want anyone else to fall into this trap. help from the press would not allow ford motor company to stonewall people. lets give ford a chance to help the consumer. call anytime 248-431-5857 - i am willing to provide all supporting info including service records, research, and contacts from across the usa. thanks jim smith. *nm

My paint job was defective and thin, my windshield was not sealed properly, there are ticking noises from under the dashboard, the front end is too heavy for the added weight to the truck, the transmission stalls the truck when it rolls backwards in drive, the truck shakes at high speeds and has excessive tire wear, which is the only thing that ford has all but admitted to by extending the excessive tire wear/ride harshness warranty from 1yr/12,000 miles to 3yrs/36,000 miles. have you ever heard of a car company giving away something unless there was a serious problem with this vehicle. *nm

Automatic transmission on 2005 ford 150, goes into nuteral when you stop on a hill and will roll backwards even though the truck is in drive or the truck will roll forward even with the truck in reverse. the truck also goes into nuteral when going down a hill and you take your foot off the gas . transmission then clunks when goes back into gear. also when tuck down shifts when going up hill it seems to hit a dead space in the transmission. was told this is all normal by ford reps. *nm

I currently own a 2005 ford f-150 4x4 supercrew truck and have started experiencing some grinding/ pulling in the transmission. i first thought it would probably just go away and now it just gets worse each time. the problem creates a rather loud noise and has greatly concerned me. i contacted the dealership where i purchased the truck, rivertown ford/ columbus,ga, and i discovered that this problem seems to be wide spread with the f-150. i am in process of trying to solve this problem now. ford motor co. needs to issue a recall for this issue. *nm

 1) driving down a paved road going about 35 mph. 2) heard a loud bang and then a metal grinding sound. the driveshaft forced its way and busted through the center carrier bearing. it only needs to happen once and it cannot be fixed. the center carrier brearing is snapped. this part holds the driveshaft. without the bearing, the drive shaft will hang down and grind against the pavement and throw it out of balance and damage it. eventually the driveshaft will break in two. then the truck will lose power to the wheels which can cause an accident. 3) the driveshaft from ford is nonserviceable. if any 1 part fails you are buying a complete new driveshaft for upwards of $1,200.00. none of the parts can be replaced. the driveshaft for my truck costs $1200.00 from ford. the center carrier bear could not be replaced because the bearing is installed before tube was friction welded (bad) in place. the bearing cannot be changed without cutting driveshaft apart, destroying the driveshaft. this part is only $35.00 but you have to buy a complete new driveshaft. i found a company that specializes in driveshafts and makes serviceable driveshafts for ford trucks. i have heard others have this problem so this is a common driveshaft defect with 04-05 ford f-150 trucks. i bought the new driveshaft from http://www.driveshaftspecialist.com f or $725 + installation. this is less than what ford charges but is not something i feel should have to be replaced on a newer truck with this mileage and that is driven very lightly unless there is a defect in design like there is with ford f-150 drive shafts. this is something thiat is supposed to last the lifetime of the truck.

This past march, during a heavy snow storm i tried to engage my 4 wheel drive on my 2005 f150 and it wouldnt engage. since then, i've noticed a noise coming from my right front wheel (that's since progressed to my left front wheel). found a tsb #06-8-15 that affects the iwe solenoids on 04-06 f150's. replaced the solenoid, and still have noise. now being told by a ford mechanic that my actuator hubs are probably shot from water getting into the old solenoid and traveling down the vacuum hoses to the hubs.

Four wheel drive does not engage. no indicator lamps. ford had to replace 4x4 motor. 34,000 miles but 38 months so was not covered under warranty. *tr

Front wheels do not engage into 4-wheel drive. indicator lamps display that system is engaged and functioning properly causing a false since of security when traveling on snow covered roads. mechanic replaced part # 7liz-3c247-a (actuator). a couple of mechanics said it was a poor design and this vacuum system was prone to water and dirt and would eventually have to be replaced again. *tr

2005 f-150 driveshaft goes bad prematurely. the middle joint in a 2 piece drive shaft is cheaply made and unserviceable. it causes drivetrain vibration and could fail causing injury to passengers or other drivers though a accident. the part failure is a common occurrence in this vehicle and many have been already replaced. my 2005 f-150 has 72000 miles on it. the driveshaft is bad and must be replaced. many other trucks have the same problem and do not know what it is. i paid a dealership to diagnose the problem. it took them awhile to figure it out. unfortunately i did not have the money for the repair. i could not see spending 900 dollars for the same defective part. i am still looking for a reasonable and quality replacement. drive shafts historically last a lot longer than the ones ford is putting out . this is a dangerous and expensive defect. people are spending money trying to fix a vibration and overlooking the driveshaft because it is so hard to believe that the driveshaft is bad. so it is overlooked for some by the time they figure it out it could be too late for the passenger or a innocent motorist sharing the road with them. do the right thing make ford pay for or replace these driveshafts. time is ticking away and the miles are clicking off on all those trucks with these drive shafts. *tr

Having intermittent extremely violent shaking issues with our '05 ford f-150. it only happens now and then, but when it does, you cannot even steer to get the truck off the road. it has no relation to speed or braking. went to the dealer, they said they found the problem and replaced one of the arms, but it happened again. i noticed there are hundreds of similar complaints with all years and numerous makes of the ford truck posted online under violent shaking. it seems that this is a serious problem that ford is not looking into, and it will cause a death, or many if it is not addressed. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. while driving between 65-70 mph, the entire vehicle vibrates. the dealer is currently inspecting the vehicle. the contact stated that the vehicle is unsafe to drive. he believed that the driveline was the cause of the failure. the failure mileage was 30,000.

Ever since delivery of vehicle (2005 ford f150 lariat 4wd), vehicle shutters or jerks on acceleration from a complete stop. initially there was also some popping on turning and acceleration, which was fixed by the dealership. the shuttering has been fixed, but after 3 repair attemps, the truck continues to jump/jerk on acceleration from a complete stop. the dealership states this is normal, but the driveline only jerks when in 2wd mode - it does not jerk in 4wd. to get the shuttering to stop, ford installed a shim kit to align the driveline, which they state is a problem they finally found. *jb

I have a 05 ford f150 and my diferential has gone out and needs to be rebuilt i had this issue while under warranty but ford always found excuses and now that its out of warranty i started to research and i have found alot of complaints where people complain of loud noise and vibrations at the above speeds of 45mph

Driving on road in school zone (25 miles per hour) children playing on sidewalk. children were jumping on off sidewalk into street. applied my brakes. heard clunk in the back of the truck then - no brake. used emergency brake to stop. failure occurred as axle broke, apparently loose for long time - not original owner, purchased from dealer. c clamp holding axle in place is dissolved into small pieces causing axel to come out. caliper is toast (only thing holding axle into place) rotor, brake pad, all rear axle components - completely failed, caused over $3,000 in repairs to truck. extended warranty won't cover stating when the tire rubbed against the curb - they consider that as impact - ford wants no part in fixing - said no reported problems with c-clamp (no recalls) or axel breaking or slipping away. a true nightmare! - you pay for extended warranty - but they don't pay for the repair, you buy a truck from a dealer, yet they don't check safety - only tires, wipers and small stuff. consumer is forced to bear any defective parts on their own. really frustrated. *tr

While driving on highway @ 60mph, my 4 wheel drive activated without my touching the dash control. the front axle made terrible grinding noises and the vehicle slowed dramatically. dealer told me it was a vacuum line and ford replaced under warranty. *tr
