Over a period of 3 months, i was experiencing a rough idle, loss of power when accelerating on flat surfaces as well as climbing hills. i took it to a mechanic who said it was 2 bad coil packs. they fixed it and 2 weeks later same incident occurred and they replaced it. during this time, i could always smell the odor of gasoline. after the large expense i was assuming, i called the ford dealer where i bought my 2006 f-150 lariat. the service manager of 22 years apparently never heard of the coil pack going bad along with the spark plugs breaking due to this. after arguing for a week with them, they finally agreed to pay for the replacement of all 8 coil packs. during this sequence, a coil pack was going bad weekly and i had to continually have it in the shop. ford needs to address this issue and as i can see, there are a lot of these issues out there and ford continues to disregard a recall. there is a definite safety issue as gasoline will emit from the crack in the coil pack and could cause a fire under the right condition. this is unacceptable.

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 ford f-150. the contact stated they have had to replace the ignition coils five times in less than one year. this failure has caused the sparks plugs to crack and be replaced. the sparks plugs that cracked were on to separate cylinders. this failure has also caused fuel to be spilled into the engine and can possibly cause problems with the catalytic converter. the caller stated that this causes the vehicle to sputter at times when trying to accelerate pass someone at higher speeds. the dealer stated this is a known problem, but the manufacturer has not given them a fix for the problem. the failure mileage was 21000 and the current mileage was 49000.rl

I have a 2006 f150 with the 5.4 engine. i have never replaced the spark plugs and the truck has 144k miles. i am now stuck with ~$1800 to pull the cab to get to the heads to get the plugs out. 2 mechanics cannot get it out normally. i am told that a fix for stripping the heads is with a sleave that i cannot get out of cylinder #8. i was never informed to have the plugs changed at 80kto 100k miles. i would not have known anything about this. i think the fix is a poor design and i was designed to cover another plug issue. i am woindering why 2 wrongs do not make a right and i am wondering what recourse i have. i have purchased or traded 3 new trucks and currently drive a mustang, all purchased in the last 4 years. i am seriously wonderingif i should ever buy another ford truck at this time. i have been more than loyal to ford products over the years.

Sparkplug popping out while driving 60 mph on highway ,thought it was a blow out of my tire had to quickly move over to the right and exit .found out it was the sparkplug . later after a few phone calls to dealers and mechanics this is a problem that happens regularly and that ford knows about this problem. this should never happen. i feel cheated and i would have never bought this truck f-150 at all if i new about this. after all this i will contact the media and local papers to let people know about this problem. i also found out if will start a fire if i kept driving. *tr

2006 ford f150 80,000km in for service the dealer called and indicated while removing the plugs 6out of 8 broke a common issue with the 5.4 triton 3valve engine. quote $2000 or possibly more. i purchased the truck for over $50,000 and now it will not run and has sat for 2 months, the ford dealer also has three other trucks with the same issue they have advised to take the truck elsewhere???? all shops in my city are refusing this engine to work on what to do i'm stranded by the manufacturer to whom i have been a loyal customer. as i research this issue it has become so widespread i don't understand why ford motor company has not been taken to task over this very serious issue. *tr

My 2006 f 150 has shut off twice on me while driving on the freeway. and after barely avoiding the semi behind me i managed to pull off the side of the freeway and turned the key off , after waiting about a minute i turned the key on and the car ran fine for about three months and then it happened again on the freeway.the light comes on to signify that the problem is the electronic throttle control, but i called around a few places and they all say the same thing ,they cant do anything unless the check engine light is on. does some one have to die in order for ford to fix this problem.. is it worth losing a life over? *tr

2006 supercrew 4x4 f150 that began missing and shaking badly along with rich smell of gasoline this morning. was taken into shop where it later hydrolocked and was now unable to start. assessment by ford technician found the engine to have a faulty injector on cylinder 6 that was stuck in the open position allowing fuel to dump directly into cylinder until full and the piston was unable to move anymore apparently resulting in some bent rods according to technician. was advised that engine was blown and needed $9500 for replacement engine since vehicle was just out of warranty at 56,000 miles. found out that many of the 2005 models of this vehicle had recalls on the same injectors making this type of repair covered, but my vin does not show this recall since it a 2006 model. this bothers me because my truck was actually shown to be manufactured in sept 2005 and possibly had the same batch of faulty injectors installed in it. *tr

I own a ford f150 2006 truck. i took the truck in for the 100k service per the factory specs for a tune up/changing of the spark plugs. the spark plugs are defective and build carbon around the bottom and when they are removed, the ceramic bottoms break off into the cylinder of the engine.

I have a 2006 f-150 with 99,000 miles. the engine developed a miss when under heavy load. checking the scheduled maintenance recommend by ford, the spark plugs need to be changed at 100,000 miles. i tried to change the plugs myself and broke the first one. i stopped at that point and had it towed to the dealer. they broke five additional plugs and the vehicle was down over night. ford has issued technical service bulletins on changing the spark plugs. this is a known issue to ford. when i contacted ford they said there was nothing they can due since its out of warranty. i was stuck with a $300 labor bill which did not include $75 for spark plugs and $98 for the tow. ford needs to be held accountable for there engineering mistake.

During routine maintenance spark plug change six of the oem installed sparkplugs broke off in the cylinder head of the engine. ford dealer admits to having problems with this design engine and states this occurs often. ford dealer stated that ford admits an issue with this design sparkplug and has a tsb detailing the procedure for broken plug removal but has issued no formal recall. dealer advised that ford also has a special tool designed for this 5.4 3 valve series motor that is engine specific to remove the broken piece of the sparkplug because this happens so often. all but one of the broken plugs was able to be removed using a specialty tool purchased at an automotive parts store. ford dealer was unable to get the last broken plug extracted from cylinder head with thier special tool. engine needed to be diassembled and cylinder head removed so that the broken piece could be extracted. this repair cost $1708.00 to complete. along with $85.00 diagnostic fee to tell me they could not get the broken piece out. the repair took two weeks to have completed. i feel that ford should issue a recall for this issue and they should reimburse me for my costs due to thier faulty design flaw.

When we purchased our new ford truck it was making a rattling noise in the engine and we were informed that it was no major problem. come to find out the engine needed to be replaced so the dealership keep the new truck and put in a new engine. when they delivered the truck a few weeks later it was making the same noise. so we had it taken back to the dealership and they had to get another engine to put in the truck because the second engine was not any good either. we bought the truck in march and did not even get to drive it until the end of april. it was in the shop for over 30 days and it had around 8 to 9 hundred miles put on it by the dealership. *nm

I reported my catalytic converters went bad to richmond ford llc. i have a 2006 ford f-150 xlt with 44,000 miles. the service manager informed me that the 3 year, 36,000 mile factory warranty was past. it was during a routine state inspection my mechanic found the issue. i again called my mechanic. he informed that there is an 8 year 80,000 mile federal emissions warranty. i again called richmond ford llc. spoke with the service manager, he told me that there was no such warranty. i had to take my truck to a local exhaust specialist. it took a week and over $2000 to repair my truck. i called ford motor companies customer care line. they informed me there was a federal emissions warranty and it was for 8 years or 80,000 miles. now i am out $2000 and i am fighting with ford to recover my expenses, lost time from work with no success can you assist or provide me with any contact information to assist me in this matter. your assistance would be greatly welcome. *tr thanks, brian m dougherty

Two separate occasions i experienced a fuel injector failure on my '06 f-150 while traveling on i-65 on 10-10-06 and on i-10 on 10-14-06. i was told by a dealer in culman alabama that i could drive it on to memphis with the engine light on. upon arrival in memphis dobbs ford told me there was nothing wrong and i had to take his word. on my trip back to tampa the engine light came on again and i had to towed to american ford in tallahassee. the replaced #6 fuel injector. later, while in memphis #5 injector failed and was replaced at landers ford in collierville. a few days later the engine light came on again and this time it was the catalytic converter, which had to be replaced. *jb

After one week of ownership, on 9/2/06 the truck dieseled when started for about 5 minutes before idling. it could not be turned off. when it finally idled, the check engine light was lit, it idled rough, knocked when accelerating or under a load and the gas mileage dropped as i was driving about 2 miles per gallon. from this point on, it was hard to start. this happened with 1000 miles on the truck. it was taken for service and the dealer told us that the catalytic converter and oxygen sensor was defective? this seems to be the result of this problem and not the problem as upstream fuel/air mixture problems cause leaning/riching which will manifest itself as cat or oxy sensor defects. these parts were replaced and 1 week later the check engine light has re appeared. *nm

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford f-150. while driving approximately 60 mph, the contact's foot became stuck to the accelerator pedal when he attempted to apply the brake. the vehicle fails to brake properly unless the pedal is touching the floor. the dealer was unable to determine the cause of failure. when turning the steering wheel, the contact hears a squealing noise and it becomes difficult to maneuver. the dealer replaced the power steering pump, but the squealing noise is still audible. the current mileage is 37,000 and failure mileage was 9,346. the consumer stated the brake and gas pedal were designed too close together. the consumer has mistakenly hit the gas pedal when trying to brake. the master cylinder had an internal leak. the muffler had a leak. updated 06/06/07. *jb
