Subj: broken gas tank at seams on my 2006 ford f150 truck i have a major problem with my 2006 ford f150 fuel tank leaking at the manufactures plastic welded seams. i bought my last 3 trucks from north county ford, in vista, california. my 3rd truck was a brand new 2006 ford f150, and all 3 trucks i bought from north county ford, i paid extended warranty on each one of them, and that was over $9,000, and i never used 1 penny of it, i never needed any warranty or extended warranty work until now, for the faulty leaky plastic gas fuel tank under my truck. i could not figure out why my gas gauge said low fuel, when i had just put fuel in the truck the same day. when i started my truck, i smelled gas, so i got out of the truck, and could see it coming out of the fuel tank area. i went to the gas station with the low fuel light on, because i wanted to get home before something bad happened, and i put more fuel in the truck, and just going only 15 miles the gas disappeared and the low fuel light came on again, but i did get it home. i jacked up the truck and started it, and climbed underneath, and was surprised to see that it was a plastic black fuel tank, not steel or metal. i was just like a cheap swimming pool that you would put two of them together, and you would seal it in the middle to make a tank. but the seal is now broke, and i

On filling up with gas at a station, the front end of the gas tank fell down and hit the ground. the front strap that holds the tank rusted out and broke. the truck is 38 months old with 28000 miles on the odometer. no visible rust is showing on the pick up bed and the automobile has never driven on winter roads. i bought the truck new. a definite safety issue is involved. if the truck was moving when this happened, an explosion would be the result. *tr

I reported my catalytic converters went bad to richmond ford llc. i have a 2006 ford f-150 xlt with 44,000 miles. the service manager informed me that the 3 year, 36,000 mile factory warranty was past. it was during a routine state inspection my mechanic found the issue. i again called my mechanic. he informed that there is an 8 year 80,000 mile federal emissions warranty. i again called richmond ford llc. spoke with the service manager, he told me that there was no such warranty. i had to take my truck to a local exhaust specialist. it took a week and over $2000 to repair my truck. i called ford motor companies customer care line. they informed me there was a federal emissions warranty and it was for 8 years or 80,000 miles. now i am out $2000 and i am fighting with ford to recover my expenses, lost time from work with no success can you assist or provide me with any contact information to assist me in this matter. your assistance would be greatly welcome. *tr thanks, brian m dougherty

Filed previous complaint about my truck. it now blows black smoke when it cranks. it is a good indication that it receiving a rich mixture of gas. this needs to be researched. i know it ties in with the mass air flow sensor, but ford indicates everything is normal although i am seeing black smoke now when i crank up my truck. *tr

Ford f-150 2006 with 5.4 l leaks fuel out of the top of the fuel tank when filling, the fuel stations pump does not shut off when the tank is full causing gasoline to be spilled on the ground. this started and then the fuel gauge stopped working so i have no idea how much fuel to pump before this happens at every fill-up. the dealer has replaced the fuel filler tube and has ordered a new fuel gauge but for two weeks has been unable to solve the problem. this is not only a safety issue but also an environmental issue. i was informed by an online ford expert mechanic, that there were other instances of fuel leaks on this model (gaskets at the fuel pump assembly). *tr

Fuel economy is not in accordance with standards on the 4.6l f150. i have checked and checked it time and time again. i am supposed to actually get better gas mileage on the highway. around town and on the highway, since the purchase of my truck in 2006 it has been getting 13 mpg. i just recently placed a k&n filter on it in order to help with the mileage. i am now getting 15mpg highway and around town. before the change, the trucks idle was rough and dropped below 1,000 rpms. after the change, it's still the same. i took it to a two different ford departments and spoke with them about the concern that i had and both told me it was the way i drove the truck. wrong. when there is black soot on the exhaust pipe and it's not clean, that's an indication of a maf sensor or one of the oxygen sensors have gone bad. i have nearly 25,000 miles on my truck and am fixing to replace the maf sensor due to the fact that a maf sensor will not show up as being damaged and no computer codes are relayed through this. the oxygen sensors would show computer codes. i do have it on file at wayne morris ford in perry, ga where they had checked the truck and stated nothing was wrong, i was just getting bad gas. this was before i changed out the air filter. it is aggravating in knowing that one, i am driving a truck that now gets 15 mpg city/highway where before it was 13 mpg when i should be getting 17/20 mpg. *also, here is a keynote. the 2006 cruise control assembly was messed up on the truck when i first purchased it and they replaced it with a 2007 cruise control assembly and placed a newer 2007 computer in it due to the fact 2006 was not picking up on the cruise control.*tr

A few days later the engine light came on again and this time it was the catalytic converter, which had to be replaced. when they said the other catalytic converter needed to be replaced. had this truck in the shop 6 times for engine light. *tr

The engine stalled and a mechanic later determined that a substantial amount of water was found in the gas tank. prior to the stall the truck had been kept in a location where it would be impossible for someone to put water into the tank. when i explained this to the ford dealership mechanic, he indicated that he personally had seen other cases where water had mysteriously appeared in a ford f150 gas tank which appeared to be attributable to the fact that rain water landing inside the trucks box drips through the seams and rivets of the box directly onto the fuel pump passing into the gas tank when it remains parked for a substantial period of time. when i googled water in the fuel tank, i find that the first item to come up is ford f150 owners describing the inexplicable discovery of substantial amounts of water in their gas tank! (please try googling this yourself. ) *tr

2006 supercrew 4x4 f150 that began missing and shaking badly along with rich smell of gasoline this morning. was taken into shop where it later hydrolocked and was now unable to start. assessment by ford technician found the engine to have a faulty injector on cylinder 6 that was stuck in the open position allowing fuel to dump directly into cylinder until full and the piston was unable to move anymore apparently resulting in some bent rods according to technician. was advised that engine was blown and needed $9500 for replacement engine since vehicle was just out of warranty at 56,000 miles. found out that many of the 2005 models of this vehicle had recalls on the same injectors making this type of repair covered, but my vin does not show this recall since it a 2006 model. this bothers me because my truck was actually shown to be manufactured in sept 2005 and possibly had the same batch of faulty injectors installed in it. *tr

2006 f150 fx 4 -4x4 super cab 5.4 l. i traded the exact same truck in an 04 model year for this 2006. ford has refused to fix ( for 3 model years ) : drive train vibration, drive train howl/whine. the 04 was in the shop 6 times with no fix. my 06 in the dealership now. i haven't made the first payment or the first oil change. problems not present on test drive. started at 500 miles. other problems include : brake pedal is mush. it never firms up. it will go to the floor. doors wont shut without slamming. super cab doors wont shut tight without pushing top in. my best fuel economy is 13 mpg highway with the cruise on. the new f150's are a disgrace to the ford name. $ 38,000 p.o.s. !! my last ford. *nm
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE - DELIVERY

I purchased a 2006 f-150 on july 6, 2006 with 9,177 miles on it. on july 10, 2006 i allowed my 24-year-old son to take the truck 700 feet to his mobile home to take a washer and dryer from my home to his. he was within 3 feet of the porch of the mobile home with the truck in four wheel drive in reverse when the gas pedal stuck and knocked his mobile home about 3 feet off the foundation. he had just let off the brake a little to ease back. the truck and mobile home seem to be totaled. my husband and i went to the dealership on 7/12/2006 and he said he was not going to do a d*** thing about it and threatened to call the police. i told him the manual said to go to the dealership. asked if i should call ford motor company. he stated that he did not make the vehicle and he didn't know what to tell me. we paid cash for the vehicle and had it towed to a secure lot until further investigation. i asked my insurance company to investigate. we purchased the premiumcare extended service plan. if nothing else, it should have fell under the implied warranty. *nm
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE - FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM - INJECTORS

Two separate occasions i experienced a fuel injector failure on my '06 f-150 while traveling on i-65 on 10-10-06 and on i-10 on 10-14-06. i was told by a dealer in culman alabama that i could drive it on to memphis with the engine light on. upon arrival in memphis dobbs ford told me there was nothing wrong and i had to take his word. on my trip back to tampa the engine light came on again and i had to towed to american ford in tallahassee. the replaced #6 fuel injector. later, while in memphis #5 injector failed and was replaced at landers ford in collierville. a few days later the engine light came on again and this time it was the catalytic converter, which had to be replaced. *jb

During normal highway driving the gas tank was ruptured on a f150 supercrew 4x4 king ranch by unknown debris. the gas tank does not have a protective shield. it is available as an option, it is standard equipment on the 4x4 model, which i found out later. upon arriving at our destination we noticed the fuel was spilling, i called roadside assistance, they recommended i call the fire dept. they were able to stop the leak and the vehicle was towed to the nearest dealership. the gas tank was replaced and i do have the old tank. *nm

Acceleration when applying the brakes. this has occurred several time the most recent being today. i almost ran into a building pulling into a parking space. the time before was at a red light, no one was in front of me and the time before that i was hauling an antique car on a trailer with trailer brakes that actually kept me from hitting anyone when the truck brakes caused an acceleration. i am afraid to drive this truck. i also had a problem with the fuel pump pouring fuel out of the truck onto the exhaust system.
