Defect SummaryCertain continental contitrac tr owl, contitrac tr bsw, general grabber tr bsw, and contitrac bsw tires manufactured between may 29 and june 11, 2005, and sold as original equipment on certain ford trucks and sold as replacement tires. these tires can wear prematurely which fails to conform to federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 119, new pneumatic tires for vehicles other than passenger cars.
Consequence SummaryAffected tires may not meet the endurance test requirements of the standard. continued use of the affected tires can result in tire failure which could lead to vehicle damage or motor vehicle crash.
Corrective SummaryContinental will notify owners and replace the tires free of charge. the recall began on december 7, 2005. owners may contact continental at 704-588-5895.

 Dt*: the contact stated while towing a double axle trailer at 55 mph on normal road conditions one of the trailer's tires exploded. the tire failure was not apparent until the contact was alerted by another driver. the trailer double axle prevented the contact from loosing control of the vehicle. there is not dot# for the misssion tires.

 Continental contitrac tr lt275/70r18 tires bought 3 ford f-350 brand new with these tires on them and we had a blowout on one truck on the highway and you can see the sidewall is blistering on the others- 15 tires in total. there is a recall on these tires in canada but not in the us.*jb

 Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford f-350. the vehicle has continental contitrac tr bsw, size lt275/70r18 125/122s tires. while driving 5 mph, the vehicle vibrated. the contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the passenger side rear tire was flat. the face of the tire detached and he noticed premature wear on all four tires. as of november 14, 2007, the dealer had not inspected the tires. the tow truck operator felt that the tire was defective. there is a recall for the tires: tread/belt (nhtsa campaign id number 05t022000); however, the manufacturer had not verified if his tires were included. the failure mileage was 16,000 and current mileage was 25,000.
