I have a 1992 ford f150 supercab 4x4 truck with dual fuel tanks. i noticed that the fuel gauge stopped working about 1 year ago. last week, i filled the rear tank, drove 30 miles to my place of employment, and my fuel gauge was registering 1/2 of a tank. on the 30 mile drive home, the fuel gauge went from 1/2 to empty. i assumed that i had lost the sensor in the rear tank as well. last night, on the drive home, i refueled my rear tank just to be sure i had enough for the weekend. this morning, when i exited my truck at work, fuel was pouring out of the front tank fill cap. when i tried to remove the cap to release pressure, fuel shot out approximately 1-2 feet. i searched the internet about this issue and found recall id 93v12500. when i called my local ford dealership and asked about the recall, i was told there was no record of a recall for this. i then contacted nhtsa, who informed me to contact ford manufacturing. i contacted ford, and was told that my vin number did not fall under a recall, and when i asked to speak to a supervisor, i was refused and was told that nothing would be done. *tr

(my ford f-150 - truck - v.i.n-#1ftex15yonkb68349) the truck was stalling and i had the fuel filter changed on 03/01/04-thinking that it was the problem, but the truck kept turning off. i was putting gasoline in the back tank and then the front tank started overflowing so on 03/11/04 i took the truck back. they checked why this was happening and the mechanic found out that the truck had been on recall for check valves, which i was never notified. i called ford (champion) in corpus christi -(361-994-6200)to fix it and they told me take it in but then they said they wouldn't cover it under warranty since my mileage was too high. it was under the 12 year warranty, so i called the main office & said the same thing. i took the truck back to the mechanic and he did the job. i had previously paid $31.77 for the fuel filter change then $42.10 to check why it kept turning off and the initial fee for the valve to be installed was $212.96 - total amount spend - $286.83. *ak

When both fuel tanks are full, pressure builds up and forces fuel to spew out of one of the gas caps. i have had a coupld of motorists flag me down to tell this and then when i stop it continues to spurt out for a few minutes. when both tanks are less than full, the fuel will return to the emptier tank every time until both tanks balance the amount of fuel. this also causes the pressure build up and fuel to spurt out of the gas cap. this problem had been handled on a recall notice by the prior owner of my truck so i am told by ford that their obligation is done. my opinion is that my vehicle is still a safety threat from fords parts (even a second set of parts after the recall). ford insists they will not pay for this. i am having my mechanic fix this for me at a price of nearly $800 so i feel safe to drive my truck that ford wont take responsibility for.

Front fuel tank pump making whining noise after only 35000 miles of shared service.notified dealer and was told that problem is a common one. premature failure could cause vehicle to stall in dangerous situation. ignition switch switch assembly malfunction made it difficult to remove key or to put key back into ignition. also key will not go into accessory position.
11/27/1998111/01/1998
Just purchased vehicle from dealer. used with no warranty. i questioned noise coming from rear tank before buying vehicle and salesman stated that's just the fuel pump and it is common with pumps mounted in the fuel tank. when truck was switched to rear tank the truck started hesitating on take-off. vehicle was taken to repair shop. they said that the fuel pump (rear tank) needed to be replaced and that it is common for ford trucks. i waited a week, and began having the hesitation problem on the front tank also. the repair shop suggested the fuel filter was also bad. when trying to change out the filter, they said that the o-ring in the line going from the filter to the engine had a failed 0-ring making it impossilbe to install the new filter. the fuel line has to be replaced because of this defect. the truck is in the shop now awaiting a fuel line from ford dealer.

I purchased a used vehicle which had a malfunctioning check valve w/in the fuel pump assembly causing fuel to return to the opposite tank and then due to overfill and pressure in tank causing it to come out of fuel cap. this issue was covered under nhtsa campaign id's: 93v125000/01i008000. i brought the vehicle to a dealership and they refused to repair the vehicle saying it was outside of the 12years/150,000mls warrantee date. i was rather upset b/c the paperwork recieved by the nhtsa's associate administor for enforcement states ford is responsible for the remedy fo these vehicles from this date forward, regardless of vehicle age, mileage, or ownership. i have already been injured once from ingestion of fuel when i opened the fuel cap to investigate why there was fuel leaking out of the cap. *ak

The oil pan on my 1992 ford f-150 rusted all the way through and has begun to leak oil. i have investigated the repair cost to be between $300-$400. i have also found out that this is a reoccuring problem, with this vehicle make, model, year & engine size (4.9). i am very concerned of the cost and reoccurrance of this problem! i have also experienced the failure of one of the intanks of our (dual gas tank) fuel pumps. this cost me $385 to have replaced. i believe i shouldn't have had to pay for replacement of a faulty product! if there is any means of having the manufacturer cover the repairs of this vehicle i would be greatful for the information. thank you for your time and consideration. james weigel. *ak

I have a problem with my fuel tanks over flowing. this was previously addressed in a recall invloving a back flow preventer valve which did not correct the problem. however ford was able to convince then nhtsa that this would solve the issue.the problem is with a defctive desinged fuel pump. the pump itself which is located inside the gas tank has a valve which allows the un used gas to return to it. on duel tank models, should this valve fail and remain open it will allow fuel to return to the wrong tank allowing it to overflow. ford has since, re-desinged this pump, those people who have since had a pump go out and have paid to have it replaced received the newly designed pump which will not allow this problem . by having the pump replaced ( which is exatly what ford wants to happen) ford will claim no responsibilty ther by reducing their cost's should a re-call happen.my wife just re-turned home all up-set. she had the neighbor and her 1 1/2 yr old baby in the truck, she had just stopped and fueled up.she made a stop at the store. our neighbor remained in the truck with the baby{with the truck running for the a/c}. she was statled my a lady pounding on the window to get out of the truck quickly, gas was pouring out from undermeath. the tank was overflowing!!!!!! this is not only a serious fire problem,,,,, but a envirometal one as well!!! how many ford trucks do you suppose are on our nations highway's pouring out gas as they go???? sincerly charles thurmond. *ak

This is in response to campaign id number: 93v125000. my truck was repaired for this problem the first time 6/94. the problem has once again returned. i filled the two tanks and had an overflow when one tank was pumped into the other. this occurs when the selection switch is set on the front or the rear tank rendering the truck undriveable, and a major safty hazard. it is my understanding from the nhtsa notice that this problem must once again be fixed by ford because the remedy did not correct the problem. granted the repair lasted 4.5 years but it was fixed with faulty parts because it has once again malfunctioned. i feel that my life has been put in jeopardy due to this malfunction and it should be corrected by ford at no cost to me. *ak

At 30,951 miles this vehicle had to have a new oil pan put in, and a new gas tank as the other one was leaking which can pose a danger anywhere at anytime just by a simple cigarett to the ground. i don't think oil pans should rust out. i was told this was not an uncommon problem with ford. they did not want to deal with me further claiming my vehicle was old. in years maybe, but not in mileage. the transmission leak has not been fixed yet. they do not stand behind their products as it is evident these are indeed faulty parts used by ford. how can an oil pan rust out? a fuel tank rusting out at the same time? also a transmission leak? i have sent letters to no avail. they just say it is being forwarded. we all know what that means. i don't think they should be allowed to do this to us, the comsumers. we will not feel safe in any ford vehicle. what would have happended if the oil pan decided to go while we were driving on the highway with other drivers. i shudder to think of a disaster that could have been. thank you for allowing me the opportunity to voice myself. but, can you help me? sincerely, scott wilson. *ak

*ak

 1) in 1992 we purchased a brand new 1992 f150 ford p.u. with duel fuel tanks, gas engine. we are the original and only owners. we had fuel tank problems in april 1994. we took the vehicle to the dealership for repair on 4-27-94 where concern #93568 and concern code #n99 was noted on worksheet and comments of repair were r&r fuel pressure regulator...skid plate tanks. installed check valves. check for leaks - ok. 2) in may 2005 we experienced fuel overflow from the rear tank filler cap. when the filler cap was removed fuel gushed out. front tank was being used at the time. we switched to using rear tank. we took vehicle to our repair shop (not affiliated with ford) on 6-1-05 and he informed us of fuel cross flow campaign notice #01m05 - dealer repair and advised us to take to dealership. june 11, 2005, while switched to rear tank, front tank started spewing gas out though filler cap while driving, leaving big trail of fuel on roadway. with engine turned off, fuel continued to spew out of front tank filler cap onto ground creating fire hazard. 3) contacted marilyn of sanderson ford dealership (707-433-6598) in healdsburg, ca on 6-15-05 where we purchased p.u. and told her of problem. was told that there was a recall on this problem but that we had missed the dates of free repair as they were 12 years or 150,000 miles from vehicle warranty start date. they could not give an answer as to why we did not recieve a recall notice. we were advised to contact manufactuer. contacted damian of ford motor company, customer relationships (1-800-392-3673) on 6-15-05 and was told same thing, that we had missed the time frame of free repair and that we would now have to pay for it. the truck has not been driven since as we feel it is a severe safety hazard. we are contacting you in hope that it can be repaired free of charge. obviously the truck had a problem in 1994 and that problem was exacerbated in may 2005.
