This is for defective valve stems. i purchased new tires from mavis tire corp. in november 2006 and in june 2008 i had 1 valve stem fail. it happened while the car was parked. i brought it back and had to insist to have it replaced free of charge since it was a defective part. at that time i did not know of the problem that existed with the stems. now i am beginning to wonder if the other 3 valve stems will fail as well. i am sure they will not replace them free of charge without a recall. *tr

While attempting to back up my vehicle(1998 ford f-150 4 x 4 6 cyl) i thought i was hung up on something as there was a great deal of resistance in doing so. when i got out to check for obstructions in the roadway, i was horrified to see that both of my front tires were facing each other (toed in). after much ado, and many men stopping to see what my problem was, i learned that the front passenger side tie rod had let go without any warning! with only 60,000 miles on my truck, everyone told me to investigate why this happened because it should not have occurred. it is my understanding that ford used to have a greased fitting holding the tierods and has switched to a nylon fitting that is non-greasable to save money>.... i can tell you that i was very sick to my stomach to think that my tie rod could have let go while traveling on the highway and i would have been facing the possibility of disasterous consequences. that did not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. i bought this pick-up because i thought i was safer driving a big vehicle. little did i know that some small little nylon part was defective and was compromising my ability to steer my vehicle. would you please tell me how many more people have had this happen to them?? my garage tells me they have seen plenty!*ak

While traveling at the speed limit on i-295 in jacksonville florida a bridgestone tire mounted on the left rear of my vehicle suffered a blow out. while blow outs do occur, in this instance the tread came completely of the tire prior to a very violent explosion of the tire. this caused extensive damage to my vehicle and loss of control. i have contacted bridgestone regarding this, and they have chosen to deny, and ignore the problem. the tire had plenty of tread and appeared in good condition. it was being operated at the correct pressure of 44lbs cold. i am extremely worried that bridgestone may be hideing a problem that good possably cost someone there life.*ak (dot number: 7b73pua189 tiresize: p265/75r16)

Had a tire blowout while on interstate. goodyear dealer inspected tire and determined that there was no cuts or punctures that caused the blowout.goodyear offered a discount on a new tire based on tread wear.goodyear dealers , however do not have the tire needed. i contacted goodyear and they said they are on back order and i should just but a used tire to use until tires are available.i don't want to use any used tires and i am now afraid of my other tires on any interstate driving.goodyear was very uncooperative to try to help me in any way except to say they don't have my particular tire. i would be willing to upgrade to a better tire and install a complete new set if they would consider their discout on the better tires. i feel that i have not been treated fairly as the tire defect was not any fault of mine...can your organization help me in any way? i have some more interstate trips to make and do not feel safe without having new tires installed.nd. *ak (tiresize: p275/60r17)

Heading in to work on tuesday, july 17th, i experienced a blowout on the left-rear tire of my ford f-150 pickup truck. i was the only person in the vehicle at this particular time. i didn't think much of this event until i heard the news today about these tires being investigated by nhtsa. from my observation, this occurrence was due to a vertical rip in the side wall and not directly related tread separation. i'm looking to purchase a replacement set tires this coming weekend for the vehicle. i would like to be updated on the latest investigation status of this model tire and if i should preceed with my current purchase. a timely response would be appreciated. thank you! *ak (tiresize: p235/70r16)

I was driving on a local highway at 70 mph and luckily my sister was driving behind me and noticed my passenger side rear tire going low. i began to merge my truck over to the emergency lane when the tire completely failed and the rear of the truck began to swerve. once i pulled over and looked at the tire i saw a six inch gash roughly one inch from the raised firestone letering running horizontal with the seam of the tread. another gash was observed in the same location smaller in size but on the same seam roughly twelve inches from the six inch gash. although my tire is not on recall i would like to have my tire inspected by the nhtsa so that if there is a defect in this particular tire a warning can be submitted before other accidents or injuries occur.thank you for your concern, jason kominoth. *ak (dot number: w2081pt238 tiresize: p235/70r16)

I prucahsed my new truck on or about sept 1998. since then i have not had but prblems with the firestone tires. they rode like you were driving down a rocky road i tried rotaing them and keep a close eye on the air pressure of the tires. the two front tires were real bad and i ended up just buying two more from the local firestone dealer in greenville, ky. i am a ky state police trooper and now when there is something wrong with a tire they felt as if they were out of round but could not convince the firestone dealer so i just bout two more. i moved the two rear tires up front and put the two new ones on the back. even with the before the new tires i noticed that the tires did not maintain a constant air presuure in them and recently during the hot weather we have been having here i have to add additional air to the tires. i have contacted firestone and ford about this but no one is saying anything. in the comming week i am going to buy me 4 new tires and just get them off i dont trust them if you would like them i would be happy to give them to you for futher tests. *ak

I live in the florida keys where it is pretty warm but where the maximum speed limit is 55mph and mostly much less. there are few high speed (highway) miles on my tires. having said that, i drove to port orange (daytona beach), florida to see my father who recently had surgery and on the way home (only 8 miles into the return trip) i suddenly got a vibration in the ride. i was doing the speed limit of 70mph on the interstate i-95. i pulled over and checked my tires and didn't see anything and so assumed the problem was the road. i then drove a short distance and changed lanes but the vibration didn't go away so i kept to a lower speed (around 50) and took the next exit where i pulled into a parking lot and did a detailed examination of my tires. what i found was a raised area on the tread of the front left (driver's side) tire. it was approximately 12 inches long and 2 1/2 to 3 inches wide. it was difficult to detect visually because it was not raised very high but was easy to detect by running my hands around the tread of the entire wheel. i checked all other tires and didn't notice a problem so i located (with the telephonic assistance from my parents) a firestone dealer back in port orange where i had just come from and drove there. at first the guy in charge told me i would have a 2 hour wait since he had lots of paying customers in front of me but after explaining (rather forcefully) that this was an emergency problem due to a defective product and that i had an 8 hour drive ahead of me that his product had already delayed by at least 1 1/2 hours he finally told me he would get me in the bay in an hour. at first, he was only going to replace the one tire. i insisted they inspect all the tires and it was a good thing i did... they found the tread on the right front was also separating and that it was also dangerous and would need to be replaced which they did. i want the remaining two replaced. *ak (tiresize: p235/70r16)

The first incident with an occurence date of 10/9/99 was when i located a lump in the left side front tire. while driving at slow speeds the steering wheel would move side to side as the lump or raised portion of the wheel would come into contact with the road. at higher speeds it felt like the tire was out of balance. i finally located the lump and had the tire replaced. i was informed at the time the belts had seperated. the tire was replaced but only after the price had been prorated according to the manufacturers warranty. the second incident was much more serious. while returning home from the northern part of the state the tread completely seperated on the right front tire. i was travelling on a highway known as the cimmaron turnpike. the speed limit on the turnpike is 75 mph. i noticed a vibration and then the whole tire let go. the tread stripprd off and tore up the whole inside of the fender as it continued to go around. it tore out the inner fender well liner . it looked exactly like the tires being shown on the news reports concerning firestone. after these two incidents these tires were replaced under the manufacturers warranty but only after they had been prorated. i replaced the two rear tires in april of 2000 prior to taking a trip because i thougt they might do the same thing.*ak( dot number: tire size: 235/70sr16 )

While driving at less than 10 miles per hour on a country road the spare tire support cable on my 1998 ford f-150 failed, causing the tire to fall beneath the truck, bounce, and strike the undercarriage. the unit had not shown prior signs of wear when the spare tire was last serviced about 16 months ago. the unit has been cycled probably five times during the life of the vehicle. there were no warning signs of thumping which would indicate a loose fitting of tire in the spare well. while no one was injured due to the low speed and location, a release on a highway would likely have resulted in an accident and possible serious injury. i plan to order a replacement part and will retain the damaged unit for inspection.*ak

Tire tread separation. about two weeks ago front end began experiencing steering problems which caused the steering wheel to move from side to side and the front end to bounce. when it first started, i checked the tires and couldn't see anything wrong. after about 4 days of this and repeated visual tire checks, tires finally showed visible signs of tire tread separation. we had the two front tires replaced with new general 550 as tires. about three days ago (24 jul) i noticed that the rear end of the truck was bouncing and that something wasn't right. a visible check of the remaining two original general as 550 tires did not reveal a problem, but i knew something was wrong. after driving my son to driver's ed this morning, i stopped for gas and noticed tire tread separation in the back tires. i know you are looking into tire tread separation on the am gen 550 as tires and i wanted you to know that all four of our tires had separated and had to be replaced. i do a lot of expressway/highway driving; thankfully nothing catastrophic happened due to this incident. i learned from it too...tire tread separation does not show up immediately and when it's discovered, it could very easily be too late.*ak (tiresize: p235/70r16)
