We have fallen victim to ford's compartment fire issue. from everything we have just researched, it appears our f150 caught on fire around 5 am sunday july 30. it had been parked since 10:30 pm. in trying to research this bizaare incident, i discovered their recall which i never received. i have owned the vehicle since 2001. i have not had any prior problems with the vehicle, which is why i found this so bizaare to wake up at 5 am to my wife yelling your truck is on fire!. luckily, i have never been motivated to clean our garage so we could park inside. however, our home did suffer damage to the siding. ford is not being aggressive in ensuring this is being handled. *jb

Our ford f-150 year 2000 started fire under the hood, while we were sleeping. the truck was parked in the diveway at about 12:00 the night before and the fire started at about 6:30-7:00 the next mourning. the truck was burnt to the ground, it totaled my vehicle that was next to it and it damaged our home. if someone hadn't noticed the fire on their way to work and woken us up we would have lost our home and maybe even our lives. the investigator that was sen't to our house to investigate the vehicle is confident that this is related to the cruise control switch. the truck was standing still unoccupied turned off for atleast 6 hours before it wen't up in flames.when we came out of the house the whole hood was on fire, by the time the firemen came the whole truck was burned and it started on the house. the firemen at the seen told us that nothing looked criminal and they believe the fire started under the hood. their is no doubt in my mind that this fire occured because of the cruise vcontrol recall.

Electrical problems. most significantly the truck shut off while i was driving down a road at about 50mph. zero electrical and the power stearing was out and i had to muscle the truck to the side of the road, my wife would not have been able to do this.i waited about 15 minutes and it started. had i been in a turn i may not have been able to turn the truck fast enough and hit oncomming cars. i took it in to john elway ford dealership and they said they couldnt find anything wrong with it and said they could do nothing. they said there was no error code logged in the computer so nothing was done. today, aug 13, 2004 the truck started but the odometer was not lit but then lit when i backed out of my parking space. my wife later took the truck to the store then to a playground where it failed to start again. this is the third occurance of this and the ford dealership said they could not find anything wrong. when i called ford they agreed that they could not do anything if they could not recreate the problem. i also have an occasional grinding from 2nd to 3rd gear that i have taken it in for several times only to be told sorry we cant recreate the problem. my main concern is losing electrical power while driving. if this happens to my pregnante wife i am very concerned that she could get into a bad accident.*ak

Ford f150 xl 2000. 11/28/03 coil #2 had to be replaced. 07/08/03 coil #4 had to be replaced. 03/06/03 coil #3 had to be replaced. on 04/05/04 my wife bessie was driving and the truck stalled. the steering wheel locked up and she had no control over the vehicle. luckily, she did not get into an accident. she came to a complete stop, put the truck in park, turned the ignition off, then turned the ignition key and the vehicle started up. my wife was very upset. i contacted chapman ford rep. bob 609-646-2000 concerning this matter. he asked me if i had the vehicle detailed lately. i advised him i had the vehicle washed last week. he advised me that water probably got into one of the coils and is causing the problem. i did not have the engine washed. these coils are defective. the vehicle bucks when the coils go bad and has very little power. on 07/02/03 the sensor and processor had to be replaced. vehicle stalled while driving 65 mph on 2 occasions. i lost complete power of the vehicle. luckily, there was no accident. it costs over $200.00 to have the coils replaced. i have spent well over $600.00 in coil repairs. ford nor chapman ford have compensated me for the defective coil repairs. i have a total of 8 coils and they are going bad one after another. after doing extensive investigating gentillini ford tim champion in woodbine advised me that chapman ford should have fixed the sensor and processor for free because it was under warranty. chapman ford charged me for the sensor and processor. i communicated with service mgr. jim bailey @ chapman ford for several months concerning this matter. chapman ford finally reimbursed me for the sensor and processor. *nm

Spark plugs rusted/seized into the cylinder head causing it to have to be removed in order for the (rusted/broken) spark plug remains to be removed. poor design allows standing water to accumulate around the spark plugs causing the rusted condition. when i notified ford of this problem, and included photos of the rusted and broken spark plugs, i was told simply that the truck was out of warranty, and no adjustment, or reimbursement would be made for the repair. additionally, the factory installed spark plugs were not the correct ones for the engine. they were even two different part numbers.  Ford motor company is not contacting current vehicle owners of serious recall notices. i surrendered my 2000 ford f150 pickup to barber ford of ventura, california when i traded it in for a newer model. since then, i have received numerous notices on safety recall #05s28 for this vehicle. i have contacted ford motor company numerous times and asked them to contact the current owner with no resolution. i have now received another notice dated july 2007. today i called the nhtsa to file a complaint that ford is not contacting the current owner of the vehicle of a serious safety recall per federal regulation. i was told by your staff that she would not take a complaint, that i needed to contact ford, or the ca attorney general's office, or the federal trade commission. i have already contacted ford numerous times with no resolution, was referred back to the nhtsa by the ca attorney general's office, and referred to the nhtsa by the federal trade commission. so, here i am, back to you, the nhtsa. ford motor company is not complying with federal regulation and nobody is willing to enforce the regulation, not even the nhtsa. any suggestions????? thank you. *tr

We parked our 2000 ford f-150 truck in our driveway on monday at 5:30 in the afternoon, and at 7:00 the next morning(13 hours later) it burned to the ground. our neighbor was leaving for work and heard the tires explode, saw it was on fire and called the fire dept. . he also took pictures. i have called everyone, emailed, lawyers ,t.v., consumer agencies and of course ford motor repeatedly. because i had no insurance, there has been no interest. i still have the truck melted to my driveway. there was only 50,000 miles on it and we purchased it new. we have borrowed a vehicle and rented cars to get to work. we own our own business, and it has been a difficult time, especially since we cannot afford to purchase another car, nor should we have to as the average consumer does not expect their vehicle to go up in flames while they sleep. i have contacted ford numerous times, and have had to repeat the same story over and over. and of course, they just sent a letter telling me to contact the insurance co. please help us to retrieve a vehicle. tell me, what does ford do with the recall when it concerns a melted burned up t ruck? i still have it melted to my driveway. i refused to have it removed in the hopes that justice would prvail, and it is our evedence. thank you for your time. my name is michelle whelpley, my phone mnumbers are 863-299-2002-, and 863-221-7925. thank you. *ak

I noticted that the cruise control did not work around may of 2004. we were taking a long trip and when i would push the button the cruise light would flash on and then go off. after several tries i gave up on it thinking i would take care of it later. on the morning of 9/17/04 my wife moved my truck onto the street so she could goto work. that was around 7am. at about 9am i went out to the truck to leave and saw smoke coming out from the wheel well. i pulled the hood release and opened the hood. the fire was coming from the plug at the rear of the master cylinder. i grabbed a handful of dirt and threw it on the fire causing the flame to go out but it tried to reignite. i then unplugged the wires and it stopped arching. i took my truck to the mechanic who works for the department and he explained to me that it was a sensor for the cruise control. we put on a new sensor due to the fact that it was leaking brake fluid and left the wiring harness unplugged. the damage was black soot marks on the inside of the hood and a burnt wiring harness. i have not replaced anything else except for the sensor in the master cylinder.*ak

Our 2000 ford f-150 had not had any previous problems. one morning it was driven for about 40 minutes, then parked in a lot. while in the lot, it caught fire (with not even a key in the ignition). we think it had maybe been parked an hour before it caught fire, but nobody knows for sure because someone else spotted it burning. fire inspectors determined that the fire started in the engine compartment, and that there was no foul play. the fire appeared to start towards the front, and on the battery side. by the time someone noticed it and called the fire department, most of the engine and hood area had pretty much been torched. it was put out by the fire department and we considered it a total loss. we contacted the ford dealer where the car was purchased, and the ford motor company. both replied that they were not responsible and unwilling to help in any way. 8jb

Fire was minor and in left rear corner of engine compartment. the only item that actually burned was the cruise control deactivation switch (ccds). the 15 amp fuse for that circuit was blown. the switch head was photographed initially but was damaged and lost when someone vandalized the truck in storage. however, the connector for the ccds remained and one of the brass contacts was still inserted. it was melted off from electrical arcing activity.
