The paint on the hood of the 2000 f150 truck started bubbling and the paint on the running boards started to flake away. in both areas the paint came off in spots in both areas. while driving i have seen this on numerous f150s, explorers and other ford vehicles. i even noticed this on the passenger's door of a brand new show room ford model. *ak

Metal paneling for driver door is cracking right below the window. both doors keep jumping out of alignment making it difficult to close the doors, and it is also scratching the exterior paint. also, metal roof is beginning to collapse in on passenger compartment. dealership informed consumer that stress on passenger compartment could be causing these problems, but cannot determine what is causing the stress. please provide any additional information / documentation.*ak

I bought a new f150 pickup from korum ford and after a week i noticed an excessive amount of rust on the under carriage and under the hood of the vehicle, i took it to the service manager to look at and he said it was normal, i did not agree with him and took it to two other dealers and i was told that a brand new vehicle should not have that much rust on it and said it was excessive. i took the truck back to korum and told them i did not want the vehicle for safety reasons and the amount of rust that was on this vehicle. korum wants to treat the vehicle like it is a used vehicle and make me pay more money to swap for a vehicle with less options. i believe the amount of rust that is on the vehicle now will prematurely weaken the vehicles parts and i will not get the full use of the vehicles life with out taking more money out of my pocket. *ak

I have a structural crack in the metal on the lower rear corner of the drivers side door. it is currently one half inch in length and growing. after doing some research and some investigation on similar ford f150's i have found that this is not an isolated problem, but rather a fairly common one. i have also noticed that this is very issue has been brought to the attention of the ntsb. i called ford today, and received the unsatisfactory answer that, since my warranty is expired a repair is not covered. i hope that the ntsb is looking at this matter closely and will issue a decision on it soon. i am worried that the structural integrity of my vehicle is compromised, and that the manufacturer ford has not taken the proper steps to fix this problem. i believe that ford and the ntsb will be to blame if i or a member of my family is injured because of a documented door failure. *ak

I have a 2000 ford f-150 4wd suipercab pickup. on the drivers side door, there is a crack starting in the sheet metal. it is currently located to the right of the window, under the weather stripping and is starting to proceed out. currently it is about 3/8 to 1/4 long. there is another one that appears to be starting about an inch above it. i'm concerned that the crack will progress across the door and the door will fail. i'm not the only one with this problem. a website called www.f150online.com. there is numerous complaints (22 pages worth) that has the same problem. i went to a local ford dealer and they said that it is off warranty and there is nothing they can do. they have no way of fixing it. please look into this and help us fix this problem. it will eventually rot out. thank you.*ak

I noticed a 1/2 crack on the drivers side door, next to the power window. i also noticed alot of other complaints on this same crack. i take good care of my truck and see no reason for a stress crack like this. i feel that since there are alot of other complaints, ford should fix this problem as a recall, especially if they are making a kit to fix this. i have been buying and driving ford products for over 20 yrs. this was my first new f150 and i wasn't expecting a problem such as this one!!*ak

I have a 2000 f150 and i too have the famous crack on the driver's door. i talked to my selling dealer, they just wanted to put a new door on my truck at full cost to me. i thought this was real bad as this truck has very low miles. i talked to ford customer support and they denied that there was a problem with door cracks even though i provided the tsb letter to the ford customer support rep. i was told it was not covered under the manufactor's or extended warranty i purchased. furthermore, i was told that i would be responsible for all charges.

I own a 2000 f150 supercab and the doors are having the popular crack next to the window above the door handle. i have a friend who owns a '97 and both of his doors are doing the same thing. if these cracks continue all the way across the door frame the door will fall apart and will provide no protection in an accident. the local body shop owner has fixed several of the '97 to '02 f150 supercabs. this is obviously a flaw in the design and/or engineering.*ak

There are two situations: #1: multiple rear spring failures on several f150 s-cab 4wd vehicles from 1995 thru 2000 build date. the main leaf cracks at axle spring perch resulting in a puncture of bed floor on some incidents. all requiring spring replacement and recently repaired by using after market heavy duty springs on both sides. #2: multiple vehicles also experienced front fender alignment change resulting in front door forward edge binding. not caused by front bumper or fender impact. several occasions of severe bind resulting in door skin and forward lip damage when door was forced open to allow egress of operator. repairs were made by realigning front fender assembly and some door hinges needed replacement due to distortion caused when door was forced open against the rear edge of offending fender. no cosmetic repairs have been done so the door forward edges and fender rear edges remain severely bent but clearance is adequate to prevent binding after repairs are done. note: these vehicles are operated off-road and on graded gravel roads on kaho`olawe island as part of mixed fleet of vehicles in support of unexplored ordinance clearance on the former naval gunfire and bombing range. to date we have experienced no similar problems with any of the 30 or so 1985 to 1986 chevy pick-ups used in identical manner and no vehicles were over-loaded usually carrying only one to three passengers and hand-carried gear in the bed. we suspect that severe spring wrap can occur when torque transmitted by the limited slip differential is changed from tire to tire. all vehicles are v-8 auto-transmission (gasoline fueled fords and diesel fueled chevys). *la

Door crack developed in door about three inches up post on back side of glass area. most f-150's 1997 - 2000 i have looked at have the same crack. ford claims normal wear but have a repair kit. i can't see how this is normal since they have a repair kit and replacement door. this should require a recall, please investigate. dt

The driver's side door has a crack in the metal and we contacted the dealer and he advised although there is no recall ford has engineered a door repair kit and they are willing to fix this defect for a cost of $675.63. if this is not a defect then just why would ford make this door repair kit? this is a separation of metal and the concern we have is if there is an accident what will keep this door from possibly causing a death. i have been in contact with several people who have this exact same issue and ford customer service turns a deaf ear. how do we get this problem to be recognized as a defect by ford motor company? i know if you put the question to the public in regards to how many ford full size trucks have this problem you will have a major response. dt

Submitting this form after noticing a crack had formed in the door skin in the lower right opening where the window is. noticed this defect in many vehicles like mine and although am aware of a quick fix that ford is performing, i do not believe this is satisfactory dur to the price and age of the vehicle. feel that this requires a new door with strengthened points where the cracks have appeared. the cracking points to weakened structural integrity and possibly a safety hazard in an accident as the door structure is weakened.*ak

I have read a number of complaints about the crack in door of this vehicle since the new body style changed in 1997 and it still hasn't been corrected. it seems to me there is a weakness in the sheet metal in the doors and it has me concerned should i be in an accident involving a side impact. we all know how a tire can kill someone so lets not wait till someone gets hurt before we realize there is a problem here. thank you , william e. carlisle. *ak
