The tread completely seperated from the sidewall on both sides of the tire at high speed. john pierce the ford dealer service manager agreed that it had to be a faulty tire. the dealer will only replace the tire but will not fix the 750 dollars worth of damage caused by the blowout. my main concern though is the other tires. i was driving this time but most of the time my wife and children are in the truck alone. how safe is that. the service manager also said the tire manufacturer would only honor the prorated warranty and nothing else. dt

I purchased this vehicle new , at about 10,000 mile i noticed that the tires were wearing very quickly. i brought the vehicle into the dealer and also an authorized bf goodrich dealer and they checked the wheel alignment which they both found to be with in specifications. both the dealer and the bf goodrich dealer came up with almost the same conclusion. which is why i am submitting this letter to you. my research on this matter with ford found the following 1) ford installed smaller tires on my vehicle then what was indicated on the vehicle description sticker that all new vehicles come with on the window. the sticker indicated that the vehicle have p275/70 r 17 installed but the vehicle was delivered to me with p275/60 tires. seeing if this was a isolated case i found a different ford dealer which also installed smaller tires than what was specified on the new vehicle description sticker. i took pictures of this practice which i have. when i confronted the service manager of why these tires are on these vehicles his answer was that ford uses what they have on hand at the time. the 2nd important finding is that the air pressure that is indicated in the door pillar indicates to use 26 lbs of air in the front tires on my 2001 f 150, according to fords own information and three authorized bf goodrich dealers that air pressure is not correct and should be within 30 to 35 lbs. i investigated the 2002 f 150 with the same tire size as my vehicle and they have the correct air pressure now stated on the door pillar sticker @ 30 to 32 lbs. the difficulty that i am having and probably many other owners of this vehicle is that bf goodrich will not warranty the tires because they say that i was using the inncorrect air pressure in the tires , when in fact i was only following fords specifications that was on the door pillar for this 2001 ford vehicle and which have now changed in the 2002 models without letting the 2001 owners aware of this change . thank you dt

Found tire separation on 3 of 4 original tires. separation was located approx 1/2 from rim and approx 1.5 inches long. on two of the tires the separation was located on the outside and one had the separation located on the inside of the tire. this was the one that concerned me more than the others because most people don't look on the inside of thier tires. these seperations were all noticed when tires where being rotated and balanced. tires were shown to the local goodyear dealer who stated that they had never seen a tire seperate at that area of the tire and they would replace at a pro-rated price. i took the truck to the local ford dealer and the dealership replace all three tires at no cost. the truck is still under warranty. *ak

From acceleration of 25-50 mph, a severe vibration would occur in front of vehicle. at 70 mph or more rear end would vibrate severely along with a roaring and grinding sound. vehicle been to the dealer four times, dealer was unable to locate cause of problem. *ak the vibration is extreme to the point that consumer is afraid to ride in the vehicle. the popping sound in the drivers seat feels like the seat is trying to move forward out of the locked position. when consumer purchased the vehicle the vehicle had a noise underneath. it was told to consumer that it was being repaired with a new muffler that had been ordered. at the time the muffler was being repaired the vibration also was worked on. the work did not correct the vibration problem. a service man test drove the vehicle with the consumer and again the vibration presented itself. four new tires were installed but this didn't solve the problem. *jg

TIRES - SIDEWALL
11/01/2005707/10/2005
I have a 01' svt lightning. i along with probably hundreds others on nloc.net all report problems with the stock goodyear f1's @ correct tire pressure. they all split the sidewall. i've had about 7 f1's split on my truck in with in the past year i've owned it. all of my splits were on the front. i can't speak for all the rest of the lightning owners on their tire locations. i also had a problem with those tires pulling my truck from side to side in the ruts in the road. i thought maybe it was normal for such wide tires. i run nitto tires on it now with no issues (splitting or pulling) what so ever. i no longer use any type of goodyear tires on any of my cars and truck. kramer goodyear told me the last time that goodyear is aware of the problem and they'll prorate me a price on a new f150. after the 7th time i asked why would i want to keep buying another overpriced f150 over and over again that i know will split sooner or later and i'd be right back in here getting a prorated tire again? the 295/45/18 goodyear f1 is a defective tire and someone if they haven't already are going to be killed running these tires. lightning are high performance trucks and most people that own them, race them. ford should really cancel their relationship with goodyear(nascar should too). goodyear is all about the name and their products are junk. it's amazing firestone gets in trouble but not goodyear. *jb

I own a ford f150 2001 supercrew with 64,000 miles on it. i bought the truck new. in feb 2004, i had to replace the right front tire. not wanting to have a tire on the left front that was worn while a new tire was on the right front, i asked the tire agency to put the spare, which had never been used, on the left front wheel mount and to use the old left front tire as the spare. when the spare was brought out from the undercarriage of the truck, several grooves about the size of a mans finger and about 3/8 of an inch deep had been rubbed into the sidewall of the spare. the tire agency did not recommend using the spare so i kept the old tire in place. i went to the ford agency where i had bought the truck, seguin motors and told them my story. seguin motors told me that this damage was cosmetic and that the tire was safe to use and that ford was not liable for this cosmetic wear. one of the seguin motors repair people told me he had seem these groves on the spares of f150s that were less than four months old. the only conclusion i can come to is that it is a design flaw in the undercarriage that holds the spare. my spare is not safe to put on the ground and it certainly isnt safe to use this tire with my family in the truck and drive it at highway speeds. any damage to a tires sidewall is always suspect. one would think with all the problems that ford has had with their tires in the past that they would certainly want to preclude any problem with their tires in the future. i hope you can help me in the resolution of this problem.*ak

Luckily i was driving in a parking lot and had just crossed a speed bump. my spare tire fell off the underside of the truck. the spare tire cable had broken. as of this date i have not yet notified the dealer. as this is a safety issue i fully expect ford to pay for the replacement. i could have been traveling on the freeway and caused a huge accident when the cable broke and dropped the tire. *jb

While driving from oklahoma back to arizona i started to experience severe vibration. i pulled over, and noticed that the right tire had a huge blister with belt strands protruding from the inside tire. i took it off, and noticed nothing that could have caused it. i took it to earnhardt which the tire mechanic stated that a screw caused the belt separation. i find this hard to believe considering that the tire only had 18500 miles on it and the location of the screw (very small too) was not in the vicinity of the huge blister. it's my belief that the heat was the primary cause. i hope others won't incur the same problems with general tire (graber aw p255/70r16) on 2001 ford f-150.*ak
