May 19, 2011 at around 4:20 am we were awaken by our neighbors that our truck was on fire. our 2001 ford f150 was on fire, an explosion had made a huge hole in the hood on the front of the driver side. the truck had last been driven the morning of may 17, 2011 and had been sitting in our driveway since then. the firemen said the fire was due to electrical wiring. we always kept up with all required maintenance. we had no idea of the problems fords were having, we now only have one vehicle to get around and the worst part is that it's a 2004 ford f250 which could also be a recall vehicle. our income is very tight because my mother is very sick and we are sending money for her medication and expenses, we have no way of getting another vehicle. our ford f250 is a diesel and diesel fuel is very high. someone please help! not sure what we're suppose to do or if ford will be responsible.

On two occasions, my 2001 ford f150 (5.4 engine, auto, 4wd) has had the throttle accelerator stick during acceleration. the first occasion occurred in february 2010, and the second occurred may 28, 2010 at approximately 10:45 am cst. on both occasions, i was accelerating from a stop at an intersection. on the first occasion, multiple attempts were made to pump the brakes and also the accelerator, when these actions did not respond to the problem, i shifted into neutral and turned of the ignition, and pulled over onto the shoulder of the road. on the second occasion, the same attempt was made, pumping the brake and accelerator pedal; after several seconds and many depressions of the brake and accelerator, i made one final, very fast depression of the brake, which resulted in a noticeable clunk sound and accompanying jarring sensation, similar to something disengaging. after this, the truck returned to normal operating conditions. no check engine indication was noted before or after either of these occasions of stuck accelerator. fortunately, on both occasions, traffic was very light. if traffic had been heavier, a collision would have been likely to occur. *tr

My 2001 f150 throttle speeds up intermittently. never sure when it will do it or how high it will go. the highest record so far is about 2600 rpm. i normally put it in neutral, pull to the side, turn off and restart the truck and all works well again. ford garage has looked at it and stated (nothing they can do until it codes or does it in their presence) . i still have to drive it but i do not lend it out to anyone. i am just wondering when and if it will ever tach full speed and really get me in a jam. *tr

I own a 2001 ford f-150. on december 16,2006 it caught fire and is now considered a total loss by our insurance company. it has completely burned to the ground. only the shell of the vehicle and the two flat rear tires are left. the insurance company at this time has not told me the reason this has happened. on dec. 16th my fiance had driven it into town that morning and returned home and parked it in the yard next to our mobile home. he arrived back at home at about 9:30 am. he took another vehicle down to our neighbors house to do some work on it and about 2:00 pm someone else in our neighborhood came to get him saying his truck was on fire. the fire department said the fire did start in the engine compartment. as a result of the fire our siding on our house was melted and we had a motor home parked in front of it also that had some damage to it. if it was a windy day the flames would have reached the house and it would have burnt to the ground. we have not had any problems with the truck before this had happened. now that this has happened i have heard of people talking about other truck fires and have found other incidents of this happening while doing research on the internet. this is how i found out about this site and i thought i should report our fire. *jb

I am requesting a recall for the ford speed control systems. they are causing uncontrolled accelerations which do not respond to the breaks. i was stopped in a drive through window with my foot on the break. the vehicle was at a full stop. suddenly while my foot was on the break the engine accelerated out of control. because my foot was on the break the vehicle was not able to move forward. this was not a mistake of putting my foot on the accelerator because i was preventing the vehicle from moving forward by having my foot on the break. quickly i placed the vehicle in park preventing it from driving off the end of the drive through. afterwards i proceeded to conduct research and found that many other people are reporting the same problem. the ford speed control systems are causing uncontrolled accelerations which lead to severe accidents and deaths. *nm

Dt: the contact owns a 2001 ford f150. the contact stated while driving with the cruise control on the vehicle accelerated at speeds of 90 mph and above, almost causing an accident. while this was occurring one could smell a burning odor, and see smoke coming from under the hood. after this occurred the contact took the vehicle to dealership, and the dealership assured him that they would not touch the vehicle until they ran a diagnostic test and made sure the vehicle was under warranty. the consumer left the vehicle at the dealership, and when he returned he found that the dealership blew up the engine. this happened when the dealership attempted to start the vehicle because of the cruise control still activated which caused the engine to blowout. the dealership did not want to replace the engine because later found out that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. contacted the manufacturer, and the manufacturer hung up on him. *ak

Ford motor co. issued a voluntary recall on thousands of f-150 series pu's in early 2005, concerning the cruise contol switch. my cruise control quit operating so i checked what ford asked. sure enough the switch was full of fluid. i was told by my ford dealer that this was a recall problem and would be fixed when parts came available. i called the dealership in july 2005 and was informed that the parts were available. upon taking the vehicle in,i was told, even though the vehicle had the recall problem, it would not be fixed at this time, as some models were still under investigation. i have no experience in vehicle recall investigation, however i do have a fair knowledge of automobiles, and if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's a duck!

I have a 2001 ford f150 supercrew pick up. i don't recall giving a notice in the mail, however i saw a story on tv about a woman whose home burned down due to the defect of the cruise control. my wife drives the vehicle to work everyday in weslaco and the dealership is just a block away from her office. this is not the dealership that the vehicle was purchased from. my wife took the vehicle to the local dealership twice to get the recall fixed but the customer service department was so rude she didn't leave it. the last time was just wednesday june 8th.there is more to tell about this but not enough space. i am unemployed and my wife's income is all we have right now so our insurance had lapsed so she parked the truck outside my mother in law's house and my wife was driving her mom's car. tuesday june 14th at about 4pm someone knocked on my mother in law's door and told her that the truck was on fire. she called the fire department and they came and put it out but the entire truck was gone. the fire marshal told hundreds of photos and documented everything. he told us that it was defintely the recall of a factory default. he said there had been 5 cases in weslaco all the same. the fire starts in the motor under the front side left tire. the tire popped, the hood was totally burns away the bumper and the paint on the sides. the dash board, side mirrors and the motor is all one molded piece. the winshield exploded with glass everywhere. i am only thankful that it didn't burn down the house or that someone i love wasn't driving it when the fire started.

On or about march 15, 2005 i got into my f150, 2001, ford pickup and started the vehicle, when immediately smoke began pouring out from under the hood. this was in the morning at the start of my day, and the truck had been sitting all night and the engine was cold. when i looked under the hood i observed a red hot glow on the driver's side around some wiring. after certified ford technicians examined the truck i was told that this was a result of a defect in the cruise control switch which i understand your agency is investigating. these repairs cost me $728.00. am i able to recoup my repair cost? *ak

Take a look a my vehicle history, i baby my truck - never used off-road. i have replaced several items that i feel should have been fixed by ford. i had to buy a warranty that cover most of the stuff. some parts with defects that were replaced. most replaced at 40,000-80,000 miles 1.) transmission completely replaced 2.) rearend replaced 3.) i'm on my third set of all 4 ball joints 4.) tie rods, tie rod ends (replaced twice now) 5.) coil 6.) headlight housing (3-4 times) 7.) brakes, numerous things worked on and replaced dealership was never able to stop the thumping noise that is still there, said it was normal (not) 8.) idler arm (replaced twice) 9.) sunroof switch replaced twice, reported loud bang when opening. a&b kia said it was normal - no, now it is completely broke and will barely open and have to force closed. 10.) sideview mirrors vibrated 11.) abs sensor replaced 12.) keyless entry replaced 13.) steering bearings replaced 14.) back bumper is rusting these are just some of the things i can remember right off hand. i've got all receipts. i take care of this truck - wash and wax once a week by hand (unless really bad weather) then i just take it to the car wash automatic or actual people washing. keep inside just as nice. if you want to check out a vehicle for safety/recall information you should start with mine. *ak
