I noticed a tapping sound coming from my engine approximately 2 days before i ejected (blew out) a spark plug while cruising at approximately 55 mph. i checked my oil the day before the blow-out and the oil level was fine. i was traveling on business at the time and fortunately i was able to limp to a hotel a couple of miles down the road. i had my truck towed to a repair shop and had to pay $800.00 to have the problem repaired. when i asked the mechanic what caused the spark plug to blow out, he simply replied that it happens a lot with these ford engines. *tr

In my case there were three separate occurrences where my spark plugs shot out of my engine. the first time it happened on the highway cruising along about 70 mph. i actually thought i blew a tire.this was at night so in the morning i checked it out with a friend's help and saw the plug sitting right where it wasn't supposed to be. so we went and bought a new plug and coil pack and threaded it back in and believe it or not it stayed there and still is there today. this first time was roughly 3 1/2 yrs ago. the next time it happened while my same friend was driving my truck to his house but this time it was a different plug and we weren't so lucky threading it back in. the threads were stripped out so we helicoiled it back in ourselves and it is still there today. this second time was roughly 2 yrs ago. the last time happened in a parking lot right as i started my truck up.the plug actually hit the underside of the hood when it blew. so again i bought a new plug and coil pack and luckily it threaded back in again. so now i am very gunshy naturally everytime i drive it. to properly correct this problem it would cost a small fortune and to sell it as is who will buy it. also on this same vehicle my transmission blew at 39,000 miles when the warranty ran out at 36,000 naturally i was told there was nothing they could do. that cost me $3,500 and a week stranded. i had to have a new transmission installed at a dealership. the truck is a f150 harley davidson edition. it now has roughly 94,000 miles on it. the dates are all approximate along with the mileage when they occurred. *tr

Electrical: at 306 miles the solenoids had to be replaced. upon shutting the vehicle off; the dash board would still illuminate. also, upon shutting the vehicle off it would continue to run. this has happened a total of four times. the transmission completely failed with no warning. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and was told the windshield had a leak which corroded the electrical system. the electrical problems started at 44000 miles. the gasket had to be replaced, and the harness wiring had to be replaced also. upon trying to start the vehicle again the battery would be completely dead. please provide any further information. *jb

I was driving down sr 33 in polk city when it seemed as if my car was slowing down. i had the pedal depressed but the truck continued to slow down. i had to pull off to the side of the road. when the speedometer fell back down to zero i attempted to take off again. once again, the truck would get to 50 and then not shift to the next gear. this was the first and only signs something was wrong. i assumed it was a problem with the transmission. i drove to work (15 miles) in second gear, called a tow truck and had it towed to lakeland ford. i was told the overdrive clutch burned up and the direct drive pak burned up. the ford dealership wanted $2,326.09 to fix a 2002 vehicle that is not even two years old and has 44,176 miles on it. most of the miles on this vehicle were highway miles always driven with overdrive on and only was something towed. this vehicle has the towing package in it so this problem should not have happened. my warranty was 3 years/36,000 miles. truck is now at aamco with transmission being rebuilt. *la

At about 75k miles, a very faint whine was coming from the back end of the vehicle, mainly audible with acceleration and at speeds of about 35 mph. it slowly progressed, we took it to a local ford dealership and was told that this is happening with many ford 150's with this year, it was a defect in the parts (the material it was made with). we were told to continue to drive it until noise was too loud. at 92k miles, it was a pretty loud whine at all speeds except about 70 mph, and then progressed to a grinding noise. i just took it into the dealership, they said the rear differential, pinion and carriage gears were torn up. they found a replacement and total cost is $1800. at this point ford is not fixing part, since there is no extended warranty, but this is not a part that should be going out at 90k miles either, and with the dealership saying this is happening often and there was a defect in the part, ford should be recalling this, or at the very least paying for the fix when it starts to go bad. *jb

Dt: the contact owns a 2002 ford f150. the rear end differential made a whining noise. they told him that it will not hurt the vehicle but it was not normal since the june 16,2005 contact was trying to get vehicle fixed. they replaced the rack and pinion twice, but problem recurred. the manufacturer told contact that they could not fix the vehicle. technician at dealership said he owned the same vehicle and it was doing the same thing. the dealerships laughed when contact brought the vehicle to be fixed. at 40-45 mph contact could hear the noise ,and if when pulling ta load the noise got worse. the dealership tried to fix this problem, but ford kept sending wrong parts that were not correcting the problem. contact has have an extended warranty on vehicle. *ak *nm

Truck is a f-150 with a 3.55 limited slip axle. there is a very noticeable whine coming from the rear differentail. noise starts at 40 mph but is most noticeable at 60 mph. noise is with slight acceleration, if i take my foot off the gas it stops. i have had the truck to the dealer three different times. they have replaced the bearings, drive shaft and gears but it hasn't helped. this is a widespread known problem but they don't seem to have a fix for the problem. i would never be able to sell this truck with this problem.*ak

Loud high pitched whine in rear end at open highway speeds (3.31 gear ratio) detected day of purchase on march 25th 2002, reported to dealer of purchase (homer skelton ford, olive branch ,ms) next date. as of march 25th 2003, one year, two dealers, 29,000 miserable miles and some five repair attempts later i still have the same problem. there is defiently a problem with the 3.31 ford rear end. i have recently driven another new 2003 ford truck with 3.31 rear end, vehicle also had noise. then drove another new pick up with the 3.55 rear end which was totally quiet. in the course of this year i have filed numerous complaints with dealers and directly with ford. one week after purchase, when the first attempt to fix the truck failed, i attempted toget the dealer to take the truck back but they said that was not an option. this vehicle is suppose to ba a top of the line ford pickup retailing for over $30,000.00 with a 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. ford either can't or won't fix it. they have just offered me a buy back on the truck which if accepted would cost me as follows the out of pocket expense at the time the truck was puchased. $1,875.00 cash down payment 6,162.10 equity of trade in 874.52 sales tax a total of $8,911.62 . in addition to the cost of installation of personal equipment which totals about $400.00. this is not even considering payments on the truck for 12 months. now ford has offered to buy the truck back if i pay them over $5,000.00 additiional dollars for the mileage on the vehicle. this would make my total cost over 13,900.00 for owning a defective ford pick up for 12 months. in essence there is no warranty. it should be ford's responsibility to fix the defect in the vehicle. if they could not fix it they should have given me another truck long ago. it is their fault that it has taken a year to get to this point. i travel in my job and had no choice but to drive the miles on the truck. they certainly were not pleasant ones.
