VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 ford f150. while driving at low speeds, the cruise control light would illuminate on the instrument panel and then the vehicle would accelerate. while driving at high speeds, the cruise control light would also illuminate, but the vehicle would not accelerate. the contact had to depress the brake pedal or push the button to disengage the cruise control; however, the light would sometimes illuminate again. the current mileage was 41,869 and failure mileage was 41,700. updated 12/02/08. *lj the consumer stated the vehicle would immediately accelerate. updated 12/03/08. *jb

 1) unknown events leading to failure, normal driving, events happened when i first turned on vehicle and during backing up .2) the engine raced out of control and lurched until ignition key was removed (it grabs the gas pedal from the driver like cruise control does) if someone or something is in vehicle's path it or they will be crashed into. then the vehicle and 8 cylinder runs like its on 4 cyl and the air conditioner doesn't work. 3) taken to ford dealer coastal ford in mobile al,they rebooted computer but would not replace computer board, they said just bring it back for reboot if it happens again, diagnostic did not reveal reason for racing engine they were not concerned that if the events happened again an accident could not be prevented or the truck being destroyed which means it could not be taken back for reboot or how to prevent this event .i wanted them to replace the supposedly defective computer board (in my opinion that's the problem) old part still in vehicle .no damages yet but since i professionally bass fish, i could be run over, the truck might race into the water,or someone else and their equipment could be run over and if backing into the garage with a boat the house and boat could be damaged or if the boat trailer has to be dealt with the person behind the truck could be run over. 2004 f150 extended cab v8 engine truck is the vehicle. 6 events over the last 4 months (it just came out of some of its warranties, ford dealer said the computer was warranted for 8 more years)*jb

2004 ford f150 xlt 4wd supercab(brakes constantly squealing)conditions were normal even braking.i never had to slam on the brakes. 've brought my vehicle back to ford dealership three times over a period of 4 months.corrective actions are scuffing the brake pads and deglazing the rotors.it's fine for a month and the squealing is back as well as a deposit of brake dust on the wheel.i've also had two incidents concerning the electronic accelrator(ford calls this drive by wire as it is digitally controlled acceleration)the trouble light displayed in dash panel twice over a period of 4 months.the last incident caused the vehicle engine to violently sputter and misfire causing loss of power .the vehicle was checked with diagnostic equipment and i was told that nothing appeared wrong with the accelerator module.the brakes i can live with but the electronic accelerator is paramount for the vehicle to function.no accelerator(digital) no go.loss of power, control and you might cause an accident causing injury to you and others. *ak

While parking a 2004 ford f-150 pickup truck i experienced an unintended acceleration incident. this occurred as i was engaging the brakes of the vehicle. as i applied pressure to the brake pedal, the engine revved up and the vehicle lurched forward. to stop the vehicle from accelerating i took my foot off the brake and let the vehicle stop on its own. i later told the owner (my uncle) about the event, and he immediately told me that he had a similar occurrence while backing up the vehicle. he told me what was happening was my foot was touching both the brake and accelerator pedals at the same time. i examined the distance between the brake and accelerator pedals and sure enough my foot would bridge the gap between the two, engaging both at the same time. the following day i had the same situation occur again, but this time i was able to get the vehicle to stop by moving my foot leftward on the brake pedal. a personal note about my experience with ford full size pickups, i have been driving various models since the mid 1970's and have never had an unintentional acceleration occur. this particular model comes equipped with adjustable pedals that may play apart in the problem. but i think the size of the accelerator pedal may be the major contributing factor in causing this problem. i feel this is an ergonomics problem that will need to be addressed before someone gets killed or maimed. i have know doubt people would have been seriously harmed had they been within four feet of the front of the vehicle when this unintentional acceleration occurred. *la

Dt: last year owner's vehicle began having acceleration problems. the first time owner drove the vehicle at 35 mph and when he took foot off of accelerator and put in on the brakes vehicle surged forward like it wanted to go 70 mph. then a week later, his wife was backing out of the driveway and left skid marks because the vehicle accelerated and she tried to stop it. the owner took vehicle to dealer last year. the first time mechanic called ford, and they could not advise what was causing the problem. on april 14, 2005 dealer replaced the throttle body, but this did not help. yesterday the service manager spoke with an engineer from ford, stating that consumers accidentally pushed the gas pedal and the brake pedal at the same time. in the last four years owner has purchased four new fords, and none h had this problem. sometimes the problem happened once a month. sometimes it happened several times in a week. there was no warning when it happened. owner was not aware of any results from diagnostic tests done by dealership. owner was driving vehicle in an unsafe condition. *ak

About one week after i purchsed my truck i was stopping at stop sign, and my truck suddenly acclerated. this happens ocassoanally. it can happen once or twice a week or it can go a couple months without a incident. i had it to the dealer (zimmerman ford in cedar rapids iowa) they reprogramed it and that did not fix the problem. i have told them many times that it was still occuring and they said if they could not duplicate the problem while they had it they could not do anything about it. i have been having thie problem for 18 mounths now. i came very close to having a accident 3 times and will not drive the truck anymore. it is not safe to drive. i called ford motor company and they refered me back to the dealer, which has gotten me nowhere. i see where there have been 8 or more complaints on your websight with the same problem. my ford dealer said they have a thing called oasis for dealers to report thease problems to ford and there was not any complaints with this problem.

Traveling approximately 10-15 mph slowing to stop at light. started to apply brakes and engine revved up. engine was fighting the brakes. pressed both feet on brakes and still truck did not stop. pressure in the brakes, so there was fluid in the cylinder. had to swerve around one vehicle and had to put the vehicle in park to get it to stop. i came within inches of hitting another vehicle. once i got the vehicle stopped it worked just fine, so i drove it to the dealer. the same thing had happened previously, but the dealership looked at it and said nothing was wrong. this time when i took it in, described the problem and told them it had been in once before, they took me a little more seriously. this is the second time this has happened in 3 months. the truck only has approximately 8,000 miles on it. the dealer has had my truck for two days and can not get it to replicate the problem. they have contacted ford and said they would let me know what they find out. *ak

The control buttons on the steering wheel do not perform intended function, or fail entirely. occasionally when the dash lights are lit, the buttons do not light. they may or may not come on later in the drive. the volume + button makes the cd track or radio station skip to the next one, the volume - button makes the volume increase. the mem button does nothing. the cruise control started slipping, as if it forgot that it was on. and the truck accellerates, or slows. when the cruise was on yesterday, the resume button didn't work, and the set button caused the truck to accellerate. frequently, the cruise control simply will not turn on and set at all.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL - LINKAGES
04/04/20041800102/27/2004
Stopped at a red traffic light with vehicle in front of me, the light turned green. i pressed the accelerator but nothing happened. i instinctively pressed farther on the accelerator, and then the engine revved too high which caused me to have to slam on the brakes before hitting the car in front of me. the throttle delay in drive by wire system is too pronounced and could lead to an accident, either in the manner that happened to me, or if i were to pull out into traffic thinking i had enough time but really didn't because of the throttle delay. the delay is usually around one second from the time i hit the gas to the time the engine rpm changes. i took the vehicle to the dealer, and they re-flashed the pcm to the latest version they had, but it did not seem to make any difference in throttle response. there is currently no tsb for this symptom.
