My 1 and a half yr old son and i had just pulled up to church. i rolled down the front passenger window to talk to a relative and as i pressed the down button i heard a loud pop. i wasn't sure what the noise was, so i went to quickly roll the window up and check the outside of the truck. as i tried to roll the window up, i realized it was the window that made the pop because the window quickly fell the rest of the way into the truck. as i did not have any other option, my son and i had to drive 15 miles home going 45 miles per hour in the cold february night (i had to bundle him up as best as i could) because there was not another option for us to get home (and the window would not stay up). after research online (and talking to ford dealers) found out it was the window regulator and quite common in 2004 ford f150 lariats. i feel this should definitely be a recall because it could be very dangerous if this happened on the highway going 65 - 70 mph! 09/27/10 (63500 miles) - driving in town the rear driver side window just fell down into the window. no ford dealer in our town we had to drive 45 minutes in the cold of october with a piece of cardboard in the window (that kept moving and causing the window to continuously fall into the truck and having to make many stops along the way). same issue - window regulator had to be replaced. 04/10/11 (69000 miles) - driving home from church in town the window started to fall into the truck. as this is the third time this has happened, we are 100% sure it is the window regulator! setting up an appointment with the ford dealer to get it fixed. researched online, and this has happened to many other 2004 ford f150 lariat truck owners! again, we are very thankful we were not driving on the highway at 70 mph with our little one in the back in the middle of winter! very unsafe!

While driving on the freeway, i heard a loud pop (sounded like a gunshot) that made me swerve. after stabilizing my truck, i realized that the cause of the loud pop was a broken window regulator on the passenger side. then yesterday again i was driving and the other window did the same thing, this has now happened to me 3 times!!!!!!!

2004 ford f150 - windows suddenly drop into door while driving. there are thousands and thousands of complaints on the www for this problem - please issue a safety recall this happened twice to me while the vehicle was in motion (while driving). just trying to find out what made a noise and having my children suddenly pelted by rain and other road debris is a serious, serious, safety issue. i believe i've read that nhtsa has petitioned ford to issue the recall, however, they have clearly stated to their consumers that they will do absolutely nothing unless nhtsa issues a safety recall. please help consumers have the voice your organization was designed for - to not have manufacturers ignore consumer safety issues that can cause injury and even death. if your organization cannot help, who else can we turn to since the manufacturer is completely ignoring the consumer safety problem??? *tr

I have a 2004 ford f-150 lariat with 83,000 miles on it. about 5 months a cable popped on my driver's side front window and the window fell. now, 5 months later the drivers side rear window did the same thing. a loud pop then the window fell. apparently this is a common problem in ford vehicles and ford refuses to fix them. not to mention, it's costly for the owners to fix at $350-$400 per window this is a potential safety hazard and someone should hold ford accountable. *tr

My drivers side window went out one day, then about two days later my passenger and back left window went out. i brought it to the ford dealership to get it fixed, along with what i thought was a spark plug and coiles. well i a found out that a 2004 f-150 i have to replace the engine. while it was in the shop my back right window aperantly went out . it was working when it went in, and when i got it back i had a plastic tarp on my window, panel was off, and noone had told me they let it rain in my truck or that the one window that had worked was now out also. *tr

I, like thousands of others of concerned consumers, have experienced faulty window regulators in my 2004 ford f-150. last night, my rear window broke when trying to role it up. several months ago, my driver window broke when i wasn't even using the window or near the truck. i just walked out to my truck with the window down - thinking someone had broken into my truck. when complaining to ford, they said there is nothing that can be done. the guy at the ford service department at my local dealership said he had the same truck at the time and had already replaced 3 on his truck. as for correcting the problem when doing the $350 repair, he told me the repair is the same as it was manufactured and he acknowledged problem would repeat over time. paying over $30,000 for a truck and having windows breaking like this is absurd. for ford to refuse to correct the problem is more absurd. consumers need your help, please do something. *tr

It looks like there will have to be a number of injuries or deaths before a recall is put in effect here. i have a ford f150 supercrew 2004, the driver's side window dropped and shattered suddenly while driving in heavy traffic with a loud noise and shattered glass. i thought i was shot at, at the time and was very lucky there was not a serious accident killing and injuring many people. kids were crying and all inside vehicle were very upset. afterwards i removed the window glass and the regulator assembly and the problem is the plastic clips that hold the control cables in place. they appear to be cheap and fragile and obviously break easily and for no reason, letting the cables come out of their guides and therefore dropping the window unexpectedly. i have taken numerous pictures if anyone from ford, nhtsa or anyone else would like to see. this incident really screwed up a otherwise great day because of shoddy engineering and quality from a american car company (ford). i am in the process of buying and replacing this window regulator myself at a cost of $187 + tax + time + inconvenience with no assurance this will not happen again. *tr

I have a 2004 ford f150 lariat supercrew. on 6/11/09 i rolled all the windows down to air out the vehicle and then rolled them back up and heard a loud pop coming from the right rear window. then the glass just fell down into the door. on 6/22/09, the same thing happened to the left rear window. after searching on-line i discovered that this is a very common problem with other owners of ford f-150s. i then called ford and they would not do anything to resolve the issue. i hope you guys can make them bear responsibility for these obvious defects. *tr

You need to recall the 2004 f150 power window regulators. i had both of the rear passenger regulators go bad (supercrew). i have replaced one already because the window went down by itself, would not go back up and the cable got all eaten up. did i mention that it went down on the highway and my 4 year old was in the back seat. my 2 year old is on the other side and her window had the same issue. the window is tuck in the shut position and have not messed with it yet. i am going to tell you that she is not riding in my truck because of the faulty equipment. i don't want to take my chances. please feel free to contact me should you have any questions. so far, i know 4 people who have replaced at least one (or more) regulators on their truck. *tr

I own a 2004 ford f-150 super crew lariat: driver side window broke while at lunch, very loud noise and then window would not roll back up. had window regulator replaced (under extended warranty) in july of 2008...thought it was only an isolated incident. 6 months later, the same thing happened to the rear passenger window. repaired for another 100 dollars under warranty. this time window broke while the truck was parked in the driveway. i fear the other 2 windows will break now. i am surprised the glass has not shattered and have been fortunate that i was not on the freeway during either incident. it makes a very loud sound when it breaks. service guy at ford suggested i call ford customer satisfaction. spoke with rep and she has absolutely no record of this happening to anyone else yet the discussion boards on the web are full of 2004 ford truck owners with the same issue. i have owned fords for the last 25 years and have been happy with the quality. but something is obviously wrong with the design or the materials on the window mechanism. it's a $45,000 truck, 84,000 miles and i take perfect care of it. ford advertisements say it's built ford tough and i believe them but the windows should not break this easily and only after 4 years. *tr

When the window cable breaks (the cable holding the window) the window falls down inside the door. this has happened to three windows on this vehicle in four years. there is no warning signs. the window just falls down. this is a safety issue if there is someone next to the window when it breaks. something could fly through and hit the person or child. this could also cause sever property damage if this occurred during a rain storm. personal property could be stolen out of the vehicle when the problem happens. there is no advance warning. you leave the vehicle with all windows and doors shut and locked, then return to the vehicle with a window completely gone. in order to repair the window the complete inside of the door has to be removed. most of the time the local ford dealer does not have the part on hand and has to order it. that causes difficulty since there usually is no way to secure the window without the cable. it is difficult to get anything inside the door to prop the window up and it is very unsafe for personal safety and property safety to drive without a window. it usually takes approximately $100 or more for the part and two hours to repair. it would make more sense to have the window lock in a closed position in order to secure personal and valuable items and secure personal safety. having the windows fall into the inside of the door is a safety issue for children and adults alike not to mention the property damage and expense of valuables lost that could occur. what if the vehicle is stolen when this happens? since it is a factory defect who is responsible. the vehicle owner took precautions and locked the vehicle with all windows shut, then the cable breaks and the window falls down. the vehicle is completely open to all kinds of damage even to the point of stolen completely at fault of the manufacturer. *tr

My f150 lariat supercrew 4x4 only has 19,000 miles on it and is very well kept. while power rolling my window up, i heard a loud bang, like my truck had been hit. upon inspection i noted that my driver side front window would not stay up. after contacting my local ford dealer (advantage ford) i was informed that it was a faulty window regulator unit and that it was a common problem. i contacted ford in the desire for them to fix this free of charge (warranty had expired based on years but not miles). they would not do so. the dealership charges $365 to fix the window or you can purchase the part for $150 and do it yourself if you are so inclined. i have found numerous reports of this problem with these trucks online and this part should be recalled by ford and fixed free of charge. *tr

As i was driving home from work today my drivers side window made a loud pop noise and it fell into the door, i was not lowering my window at the time, just basically driving normally. i am now unable to raise it. last year it happened to me with my driver side back window. i had to take the door panel off and have it fixed. after reading previous complaints and seeing that it is a problem i am very worried about the safety of my children while i am driving. i am now going to try the dealer tomorrow to see if they can fix it under warranty. living in arizona where the temperatures are very high this can be a dangerous problem. *tr

I was driving down i-85 south heading towards lagrange, ga at approx. 65 mph and my rear window just fell all the way down. it scared the living daylights out of me because i thought the rear door had opened up. i took it to the shop and was told that the regulator went out. i explained that the rear window is hardly ever used and my mechanic stated that there have been a lot of issues with ford and this specific problem. the repair was $ 294 dollars, but the bigger concern is that my recent inquiry of the internet leads me to believe that this is not an isolated incident. there have been thousands of complaints and nhtsa has made a recommendation to ford to recall these defective regulators, however, to date, they have ignored said recommendation. i believe this not only to be a defect, but also a safety issue. please consider reviewing your recommendation to ford and make it a mandatory recall. thank you! *tr

Upon rolling my 2004 ford f-150 passenger power window down to get on a military base where i work on a daily basis and they check your identification for security reasons on a daily basis. i drove past the check point and tried to roll power window up. i then heard a loud pop which sounded like a gunshot and the window just dropped into the door. i tried to roll the window up but just heard a motor inside the door housing.needless to say the window was stuck in the down position for a day or two until i could take the door panel off and push the window up and taped it in the up position. this happened to the driver side door about 2 years ago 3 days before i deployed to iraq. my wife had the driver door fixed at the ford dealer for $100.00. my ford truck is still under warranty because it is not driven that much, due to me being out of the country for months at a time but i have read over 1000 complaints about this same window situation. what does it take to have a company recall a product. i have not taken my ford f-150 to the dealer yet, but i am expecting to pay at least another $100.00 to fix it. the bad thing is i have 2 rear windows that i can expect to break and will most likely end up replacing them also. hopefully before my warranty is up in another 8000 miles. you would think ford would fix these defective products in good faith since america has stood by them in the current economy as they seem to doing better than gm and all the other bailout car makers. *tr

2004 f150 crew cab - a few months after the warranty expired, the drivers side window regulator failed causing the window to fall into the track without warning. the result of the failure caused me to swerve and narrowly miss on coming traffic. a few months ago the passengers fwd window failed in the same mannor. then just sunday 12-27-09 the right rear window failed the same way. so 3 of 4 regulators failed, causing $1300.00 in repairs. just waiting for the 4th to fail as well. something has to be done to ford to cover the costs of repairs. this design has an obvious flaw and all the dealers are saying is lodge a complaint as they steal your money. make ford take some tarp money and reimburse the general public for there design error. no deaths have been attributed to this problem but do not wait until one occurs before action is taken. *tr

While driving, heard a loud pop, klunk. after rolling down my window, tried to roll it back up, but now won't roll up. this has happened to 3 of my windows. the problem with 1st window occurred 1 yr ago--other 2 window broke w/in a few weeks of each-other. i've had one window repaired. the dealer said a small plastic part broke and that it is a common problem. cost to repair one window: 360.00!!! this is a safety problem---if you cannot roll your window up, it leaves the driver vulnerable. why would ford use a small plastic part on such a big component of a truck? is there a recall on this part? if not, can you please explain why not? i would not be so upset if this problem occurred in 1 window, but three?? now i'm waiting for the 4th window to go. and at 360.00 a pop! something just isn't right. *tr

Window mechanism on 2004 ford f-150 fails suddenly and window is stuck in the down position. this has happened twice on two different windows. this can be a personal safety issue of course as well as a huge security issue. dealer told me that ford used cheap plastic parts in the 2004 and they get hundreds of customers in for this repair. *tr

Power window regulator failure 2004 ford f-150. today i had the power window regulator fail on my truck. i was driving in traffic in salem oregon and all of a sudden my drivers window just fell into the door. this startled the heck out of me with the load thud it made. i honestly thought someone had thrown something against by door or something, which made me jerk away from the window nearly side swiping a vehicle to my right. luckily that drive was on the ball and veered out of the way. after reading all of the complaints i thought i must add to this list. i can not afford another near $400 times three when the others go bad. i have a three year old little girl and i fear that the next time this happens she may be in the truck and who knows what could happen then!! ford needs to be forced into replacing this faulty design which is a safety hazard. thank you *tr

The drivers side window in my truck fell this morning. i fixed the window on the passengers side exactly 1 year ago this week. i brought it in last year to fix the window and they changed the cable or motor not really sure, but i have an appointment tomorrow to fix the drivers side now. same part needs to be changed just different door. at $200.00 each time. i have searched the internet and have found thousands of complaints from other ford owners with the same problem on the 2004 f-150. maybe a recall should be issued on these parts. *tr

Over the past year of owning my 2004 ford f-150 supercrew 5.4 ltr. triton, i have replaced 3 out of the 4 power window regulators on the vehicle. i do not consider these normal repairs however as they have all occurred within such a short period of time and were all exactly the same in nature. the first occurred on a trip from colorado to salina ks. over the thanksgiving holiday, i thought the failure was due to the extremely cold weather, which made most of the trip completely miserable by the way, however within 6 months another power window failure occurred and just the other day the third. i think it's ridiculous that so many persons have lodged the same complaint about these faulty components and ford made aware of the issue yet they choose to do nothing about this specific problem. *tr

Three of the four windows in our ford f150 extended cab have gone down never to come up again. no one was injured, but the open window with no way to close it certainly provided for possible injury especially today as the third one broke just before a heavy thunderstorm with strong winds. we were able to get the truck into the garage before the bottom fell out. *tr

Windows in f-150 our failing. cable just snaps and they fall quickly into door. three out of four windows have fallen in my truck. the first occurred during a down pour. this was quite a surprise and i was fortunate that i was not driving down the interstate when this occurred. the third and last occurrence occurred just last week while on a business trip. two of the three incidents were extremely distracting, one occurred while parked. based on my conversations with the dealer, search results on the internet, and my own experience i'm concerned anyone with a child that removes their restraints while in motion might encounter the same issue. one of my windows in the back was broken but did not drop down until it was touched by a co-worker, and dropped very fast. thank goodness this did not happened by a child who unrestrained themselves while moving. *tr

Within a one year span of time i have had two window regulators/motors break on my 2004 f-150 extended cab. the truck only has 59,000 miles on it and i have heard of many others having this same problem with this model and year. there are no outside factors affecting this problem, it is a manufacturing issue. both times i just simply went to roll down my window, heard a pop and then my window began to slide down. i had to use cardboard to keep it from falling all the way into the door. both times the regulator and motor had to be repaired. *tr

I drive a 2004 ford f-150 super crew the window regulators keep failing. it has happened to all 4 doors in my truck more than once. i have had ford replace 2 of them and due to the high cost i am repairing them the best i can now. the incidents started march of 2007 (just when the warranty is up), what happens is that you will be driving along and roll down the window. a loud noise will occur and the window falls to the bottom of the door. the problem with the window regulators is that the cable system does not stay in place. i know that many other people are having the same trouble with this, so please get ford to recall this problem before someone or something is injured. there was no injuries or other mishaps due to these failures you could call these near misses. these failures could cause injuries or damage to other cars on the roads. thank you for your time. *tr

There is a problem with ford f150 window regulator cables. they are under pressure, fail and snap with an extremely loud bang. the one on my driver's side front door window failed on 07/17/08 at 23,446 miles when i was going down the road at about 35 mph. the noise was so loud i thought someone shot my door, causing me jump and swerve in my lane. the one on my front passenger's side window door failed on 08/24/09 at 30,779 miles going down the freeway at 70 mph. internet research reveals that this is occurring to many people. this piece is obviously defective and the problem should be remedied by ford before someone gets hurt. *tr

The windows on my ford f-150 truck have a faulty part. i've had to replace 3 window regulators within 6 months. the last two being less than a month apart. the only answer i get from the dealer is that when one goes the rest go. that's unacceptable! this has cost me over $400 each time. there's a noise like a pop and then the window rolls down by itself. i can't secure my car. i have to take all of my personal information out of the truck each night, i.e. insurance card, invoices from repairs, etc. *tr

My husband has a 2004 f150 and in september of 2008 he heard a popping sound in the passenger window - shortly after that... the window fell abruptly down into the door. this was a costly repair and i felt it was a safety concern at that time, but took it to just be a fluke of some sort. well a few days ago on may 27th, 2009 he heard the same popping sound, this time coming from the drivers side window. to my disbelief the same thing happened again to the drivers side window - the window fell abruptly. this time i decided to search the web for a re-call and found numerous complaints from people about the same exact thing. this is not only a safety issue and the parts should be re-called immediately before someone gets hurt. *tr

2004 ford f150 window track failure. the driver's side front window regulator/track broke causing the window to fall into the door. within 6 months of that time, the driver's side back window failed in the same manner, less then 6 months later the passenger side front door window failed as the previous 2 windows and within another 3 months, the passenger side back door window failed in the same manner as the prior three windows. obviously, this is the fourth window track that has failed. each time the failure happened while driving. the only alternative offer by ford motor co. was to pay a dealership to replace the window track. *tr

2004 f150 supercrew problem: windows rolling down by themselves both rear window(rl & rr). cause: problem was traced to the window regulator, or fault of. the white plastic clip holding the end of the steel cables (next to the pulleys) broke off. one end broke off causing the window to slide down by gravity and friction when in motion (sometimes still - i.e. overnight). if unaware of the situation, like i was when it first happened to the rl window, i used the electronic switch on the driver door to pull the rlwindow up but could hear the motor (on the regulator) eating away at something. after opening up the door, i noticed that the cable was being mangled by the motor. two weeks later, the rr window had the exact same problem, the white plastic clip holding the end of the cable broke off from one end. other end already cracked and barely holding on. it turns out that the parts used are bad and need to be replaced, actually need to replace the entire regulator. this needs to be replaced before something bad happens (someone can vandalize my car, or... what if i get into a bad accident and my 4 and 2 year olds are in the truck with me. what's going to happen then? i don't want to find out.) i want them to be all regulators replaced because there is no recall and i believe they will eventually break off. two already did. they are a safety hazard. *tr

Loud popping noise driver side window just fell down in the door while driving down the road to my house. i thought i was shot at or something if i had been in traffic i would have probably hit someone it scared me so bad. it was the failure of the window regulator. it seems ford knows they have a defective product on these regulators but has not recalled them. *tr

I purchased my 2004 f-150 three months ago and i have now had to replace the window regulator three times (two on the same window). i have found many complaints online from consumers with the exact same problem. ford needs to step up and recognize this problem. it costs anywhere from $200.00 to $400.00 to get it repaired each time. i cannot afford this on a monthly basis nor should i or anyone else need to put up with the obvious defect with fords window regulators. thank you for your time. *tr

I was sitting in my home office with my 2004 ford f 150 parked right outside where i could see it. all of a sudden just out of the blue, the driver side window (which was closed) drops completely into its cavity with no cause and the alarm starts beeping. it turns out after inspecting the vehicle, doing a little research online, and then removing the door panel to further inspect it that a cable which operates the window to go up and down had broken. i have not taken this any further yet as it is the weekend, but will contact ford on monday to see what their reaction is. i feel this could be a very dangerous situation if it were to happen while someone was driving the vehicle. my online research turn up many instances of this happening to others with ford f 150 trucks, some reporting as many as 3 instances! *tr

During the first week of july 2007 the passenger's side window suddenly slid down when i activated the electric window. during the second week of the same month the driver's side window suddenly slid down when activated. i removed the inside panel cover of the doors and noticed the cabling hanging loose and wound around twisted on the motor that caused the window to go up and down. upon inspection, the problem was attributed to weak, bad or incorrect design. this sudden problem caused a severe safety risk to any driver or passengers. *ak
