While driving vehicle at any speed from 10 mph to 70 mph the truck will go into safe mode (limp-home mode) going down to 5 mph and losing all power steering. when diagnosed it is the throttle body control to me this is a safety issue what happens if i am driving 70 mph on the highway and it goes into safety mode and i lose all power steering. does someone have to die before there is a recall on this??? it will cost me around $1000.00 to fix per brondes ford in toledo ohio and i am told ford has 2 or 3 vehicles a week come in for the same problem. to me this is not standard maintenance.

While driving, my 2005 f-150 would suddenly act as if the transmission was in neutral. the wrench symbol on the gauge panel would illuminate, but the engine was still running. the only way to clear the problem was to pull over, put car in park, shut engine off, restart engine and shift to drive. luckily this never happened on the highway, but it could have led to a serious accident. i had the truck repaired, and the dealership had to replace the throttle body. this is not covered under warranty acccording to the dealership. truck has only 58800 miles on it. i have seen this issue on this site and others and nhtsa really should investigate this issue.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford f150. while driving, the vehicle lost some power and the engine light illuminated which read engine failed soft mode. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, but the could not duplicate the problem. the dealer told the consumer the vehicle was safe to drive, however once the consumer approached a light, the vehicle stalled, the fail safe light came on and the brakes locked up. smoke emitted from under the hood and then there was a fire. the vehicle was destroyed.

Needed tuneup, 75,549 miles, took f-150 truck to local auto service facility for a tuneup. 2 plugs broke off in head due to plug failure plug motorcraft # pzt1f. thus the head had to be removed to take out the broken plug. this was very expensive. we have one of the spark plugs used in this vehicle. *tr

A week after i had picked up my new 2005 ford f150 lariat the 5.4l engine started knocking and sputtering. after taking it back to the dealer they determined that the problem was related to faulty sprockets on the cam shafts (bulletin ssm-18342). i brought it in for service and a week after getting it back the knocking and sputtering is still there and getting worse. now i'm going back to the dealer insisting the engine be replaced. i don't expect a lot of cooperation.*ak

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 ford f150. the spark plugs in the engine are popping out at the cylinder head which indicates there was not enough thread on the spark plugs. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic who replaced the spark plugs and while replacing one the other also failed. the dealer or the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 100,000.....mw

I had stopped at a local shop on my way back to work and when i went to start my pickup to return the engine would not turn over. on the third attempt, it finally started, but smelled like a motor burning up. i was proceeding up a hill and was approaching a stop sign. when i pressed on the brakes, there were no brakes. i could not stop the truck at the stop sign. i coasted through the stop sign at approximately 10mph and i pulled right into a parking lot. no matter how hard i pressed the brake pedal i couldn't get the truck to stop completely so i put the transmission into park. i then proceeded to call for help. when the mechanic arrived, he found that the vacuum hose had come unattached. after speaking with a ford mechanic over the phone, he stated that the mechanic had since several trucks in the same make and model as mine that also had this same problem occur. at this time, my truck is in the process of being fixed by the mechanic who told us of this problem. *nm

Bad vibration from rear of truck 55-60 mph intermittent. ford state it is aftermarket tires. had truck in 2 times with factory tires and 3 times with new tires for same vibration. pinion angle changed twice on truck causing more vibrations that ford won't fix. now truck is leaking engine oil from rear main. i am afraid to take truck on long trips for fear of driveline failure. numerous complaints on web of same problem. why is ford not made to fix this issue?truck has 6,200 miles on it and almost a year old. this could be a big safety concern if driveline failure occurs at highway speeds. i have been an auto mechanic for 18 years at dealerships and i know a tire vibration from a driveline vibration. *jb

Two weeks after purchasing my f150 i noticed a ticking sound coming from under the hood while driving down the highway at approximately 55 mph and with the a/c on and the fan in low. i drove for another week to determine what the noise was and found that it is apparently a relay that is being cycled when the a/c compressor turns on. the switch will cycle anywhere from once every ten seconds at 55 mph and above with the fan in 1 or 2 to once every thirty seconds. the switch seldom cycles while the vehicle is at idle but can be heard to cycle when the a/c is switched on or off at idle or while the vehicle is in motion. there is no apparent affect on the a/c system operation. the ticking is very loud and annoying. this is not normal for a new vehicle. i took the vehicle to my dealer and they did several things, first they recharged the a/c system and tried to return the truck to me. i drove it down the street, noted the ticking still there and took it back. i spoke with the service manager who told me that the ticking is normal on these trucks. i pressed the issue and he made some adjustments and ultimately changed the switch/relay that is cycling. this, however is the wrong solution, obviously the switch works, what is not working is what is causing it to cycle so frequently (as often as once every ten seconds). after a full day at the dealership, i took the truck and haven't had the time to take it to another dealer to see if they had another solution. *nm

When i start the truck it makes a ticking sound and when i have the a/c on it makes the ticking sound every few seconds. i took it to the dealership 2 times so far and they say that it's normal sounds from the a/c compressor but i'm not sure that it is normal because when the truck is started with the air off it does this. also when braking, the steering wheel shakes strongly and uncontrollably. this is everytime you brake and at any speed until coming to a complete stop. *jb

Ford f150 2005 , after about 100 to 150 miles on truck driving on a road with slight hills noticed vibration , at or about 2100 to 2400 rpms in any gear flat or hilly surface and at any speed as long as 2100 to 2400 rpms are reached , truck vibrates through out the truck , contacted dealership where purchased 3 times first was told to bring truck back in for further testing , second time drivable tech went for ride noticed vibration , third time service manager drove truck noticed vibration , contacted ford , ford states issue is normal for truck not going to do anything , but has tsb for issue 05-15 , so i am to assume that ford is now producing trucks that vibrate at set rpms . the truck now has about 650 miles on it and the vibration is getting worse but ford or the dealership will not do anything to fix the issue.*ak

The complainant purchased a truck for his business at the colorado river ford dealership in bullhead city az. the dealership obtained the truck from california and had same delivered to bullhead city. the complainant picked up the truck at the dealership and immediately noted a pronounced engine knock. calling the service departments attention to this problem they told the complainant that the noise was normal. the complainant then made them start up two similar trucks on the lot that did not manifest the same knock. the complainant requested a new truck from the dealership that refused to honor the request. the complainant had the dealership contact the manufacturer in detroit who advised that this problem is known to accrue in some 2004/2005 models and that to correct same a new part had to be ordered which the dealership could not replace as they lacked the proper tools to do so. the dealership then dismantled the engine. the complainant again advised the dealership that he would not accept this defective truck, as he had purchased a new truck to be in proper working condition and the dealership was now attempting to compel the complainant to accept a truck that was defective from the factory. to date the truck remains at the dealership. the complainant refuses to accept this defective (from the factory) truck and the dealership refuses to give him another new truck in lieu of the defective one. your assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated, constantine chuck bentas. *nm
