Defect SummaryOn certain trucks equipped with speed control, gasoline or natural gas engines, the speed control deactivation switch may overheat.
Consequence SummaryOverheating could result in smoke or burn and an underhood fire.
Corrective SummaryDealers will install a fused wiring harness into the speed control system free of charge. the recall began on august 7, 2006. owners may contact ford at 1-866-436-7332. (note: also see recalls 05v017 and 05v388)

Defect SummaryOn certain pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles equipped with speed control, the speed control deactivation switch may overheat, smoke, or burn.
Consequence SummaryA fire at the switch could occur.
Corrective SummaryBy letter dated september 12, 2005, owners were instructed to return their vehicles to their dealers to have the speed control deactivation switch disconnected. owners who have had their speed control deactivated are being notified that parts will be available and advised to make an appointment to reconnect the speed control beginning in february 2006. owners who did not have their speed control deactivated are being notified to have their system remedied beginning in february 2006. owners are urged to avail themselves of the free disconnect service as soon as possible because of the significant risk of fire. owners may contact ford at 1-800-392-3673. (note: also see recalls 05v017 and 06v286)

 Tl*the contact owns a 1997 ford f250. the contact's wife received a recall notice on her 2001 ford expedition for the vehicle speed control. when his cruise control stopped working, he investigated to determine if his vehicle was included in the same recall. the contact found nhtsa campaign id number 05v388000 (vehicle speed control); however, the dealer stated that his vin was not included. the ford manufacturer stated that nothing could be done. the contact believed that his vehicle should be included in the recall. the failure and current mileages were 118,000. updated 01-14-08. *kb the consumer was informed the recall didn't affect model year 1994- 2002 ford f250's. the cruise control switch leaked brake fluid onto the electrical connections and shorted out the switch. updated 12/12/07. *jb

 The vehicle was parked in garage with engine off, gear was set in first, the truck suddenly began rolling backwards accompanied by a horrible clicking noise. *ak

 While driving with cruise control activated system locked up and would not disengage, vehicle was put into neutral to gain control. please give any further details. *ak

 Motor surges, violently at times, during warm-up period. causes vehicle to lurch at its worst. continues to get worse. ford engineer reviewed problem 12/20/99 claimed commercially acceptable then stipulated no further warranty work for this problem is authroized. brought truck back this week, (time # 6 in 3 months) and they refused to investigate or work on that condition any further. *ak
