Purchased a 1999 ford f250 super duty february,2009. in september 2009, recieved a letter from ford informing of a recall to the speed control (05s28). on october 6,2009, took the truck to nearest ford dealer which had performed the necessary part to prevent the truck from igniting a fire. on october 17,2009 while the truck was parked in our driveway, it caught fire. we learned from a neighbor: they pulled in their house and seen smoke coming from the truck under the hood. they ran over and grabbed the water hose and tried to open the door, it was locked. they called the local fire dept. and the fire started.the truck's engine started up, the headlights camer on and the wipers started going back and forth. my neighbor looked in the window and seen there was no keys in the ignition. the firemen arrived and force and forced the hood up and put out the fire.it was a total loss. we contacted the local dealership where the recalled part was replaced and told us to contact ford motor company. we did, they sent us a letter of needed information from us. when submitted all information and in december 2009 got a reply they were unable to associate with us on our damage.

Tl*the contact owns 1999 ford f250 super duty. while driving 25 mph on a clear day the contact suddenly lost control of the vehicle's acceleration speed. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, who stated that the electronic sensor that controlled acceleration had no link to the accelerator pedal. therefore, when the sensor failed, it needed to be replaced. this failure has occurred three times. *ak update 05/10/07*tr

I was driving my 1999 ford f250 diesel truck at 70 mph (speed limit) when i touched the brake to release the cruise to stop at the traffic light upon entering plains, tx. the cruise did not release and i braked harder......the engine kept at over 2,000 rpm and did not slow down.....i braked harder to stop at the light and the engine never slowed down......i pushed the off button on the cruise control and pumped the brake and it never slowed......i had to brake pretty hard to come to a stop at the highway intersection.....the engine was still racing at 2,000 rpm......i jerked across the intersection and stopped the truck on the side of the highway by turning off the engine.....when i restarted the truck, it would not go forward. i had the car hauled to the nearest ford dealership, brownfield, tx. they said it sounded like an electrical problem......then they told me it was the transmission......the truck only had 28,000 miles on it......they replaced the transmission for $2,800. after telling my friend, a mechanic, the problem he sent me this message: go to: www.nhtsa.dot.gov/hotline/ and file a report on the incident with the truck. after thinking about what you said happened, there may be a problem with the throttle components. it could happen again. if it does , shut off the ignition. trying to hold that engine with the brakes (not saying it did) could blow the torque converter on the transmission. the reason for filing the report is they will investigate for safety and they will also let you know if a similar report has been filed. tom. *nlm
