While pulling into my garage i heard a strange clunck noise from the rear end. it turned out to be my spare tire falling off. the factory spare tire carrier cable broke. the cable showed no signs of corrosion, i finally found the crimped on end in the driveway to confirm the cable broke at the point of crimp. thank goodness this happened in my driveway and not at 70mph, who knows what kind of damage or who would have been killed as a result of this. i called my local ford dealership to inquire on a recall or at least a tsb, none existed. i installed a safety chain to catch the spare should the cable break again.*ak
