Re: ford truck 4x4 f350 diesel. this is my 2nd complaint to you in about a year for the same problem. there are no warning signs, just failure of the alternator. we have a 2002 ford f350 super duty diesel, crew cab, 7.3l engine. today, we are installing the 5th or 6th (we've stopped counting, but have records) alternator!! this occurs at least every year, and we have the old alternator now. this is beyond riduculous, expensive, and unsafe. it warrants a look see by you. our truck only has 88 thousand (can't see, the alternator is out, but this is approximate) miles. please, help! if this were to happen while we were going down the highway, at high speeds, someone could be hurt or killed.

I have a 2002 f350 ford truck, i was driving along when i heard this big pop noise with shaking i stop and smelled gas ,i shut it off open the hood and the motor was starting to catch on fire, needless to say the spark plug blew out hit the coil and fuel line which rupchured it and caused the fire. if this had been my wife or one of my kids driving it they might have been killed. i think ford should step up and recall there problems that they no they have and fix them before sombody gets hurt or worse killed, this isn't right that they can get away with thisnowing what can happen, they said i caused it,how did i do that when hundreds if not thousands have had this same problem. i hope that you can do somthing about this before it's to late ! thanks they fixed it and it done it again.

My ford f350 superduty quad cab lariat le diesel had been sitting in my back yard for about 5 hours with the block heater plugged in. i heard an explosion and looked out the window. the front of my truck was on fire. the fire consumed the intercooler, air conditioner evaporator and all the headlights, grill, rubber on the bumper and all plastic, rubber parts, wiring, hoses under the hood including both batteries. *tr

7.3 l diesel engine in my 2002 ford f-350 would just stop dead at numerous random times, sometimes while just sitting still and idling, others while driving in traffic. after turning ignition off, engine would restart and run normally. dealer replaced the cam position sensor (cps), which solved the problem.

Loss of the cps sensor on my 02 ford f350. the sensor went out while i was traveling down i87. i was able to pull off the road but the failure left me stranded with no cell service in the middle of a northeaster on 4/16/07. *tr

Out of state on vacation. shut vehicle off and then it wouldn't start. called ford warranty - only ford dealer in area couldn't get it in until the following week. talked to friend that is a diesel mechanic who advised that the cps always goes bad in 7.3's and to replace it. located one at napa for $190.00 - borrowed tools and installed. truck then started right up and has run fine since. only 46,000 miles on truck!! took old cps to local ford dealer along with bill and am attempting to recover expenses under warranty as the manual says it is covered. local dealer wasn't very optimistic. *jb

This happened several months ago, but my f-350 power stroke had the dreaded cam position failure. my daughter was stuck at an intersection in 5 o'clock traffic and the truck was dead. i carried a spare sensor in the glove box knowing that this is a very common failure. imagine being in the left lane of the interstate when it decides to fail. lose power steering and power brakes. read about cps failures on thedieselstop.com. could fail when turning left in front of on coming traffic. i feel this is a very dangerous flaw in this motor. *jb
