While pulling out into traffic, transmission shuddered and failed to operate causing traffic to come to a halt. this was the first incident. several times afterwards, transmission would shudder and vibrate while shifting gears. took to dealership in november of 2012 when this first occured and they updated the transmission program. this update did not fix the problem. returned to the dealership on febuaray 22, 2013 for the same problem and they're reply was, this is normal. this is not normal, this car is a death trap. i only drive this vehicle about 9 miles to work a day and i feel very unsafe driving it.

Numerous times when driving my 2011 ford fiesta the rpm's shoot way up and the car won't accelerate when i hit the gas. even while driving at a speed of 45mph and try to go faster the car stalls and wont accelerate at all and get quite scary when this happens, especially on a highway when you could cause an accident. i have been driving and this happens and i have had to put it in park turn it off and turn it back on to get it to accelerate normally again.

Vehicle: 2011 ford fiesta, manual trans., fwd. road conditions: snow covered 1-2, no ice underneath, no slush buildup. incident: at stop sign waiting to turn left onto road. oncoming traffic in either direction is thru, no stop. no oncoming traffic. accelerating across two lanes to turn left- divided 4 lane municipal road 40mph speed limit. midway across road, front wheels began to slip, traction control activated and removed power. car stopped in middle of road. was unable to move vehicle in 1st/2nd/3rd gear without traction control removing power. in first instance, oncoming traffic had to stop while i exited vehicle and pushed vehicle into median where traction was found. this happened twice. after second occurance, determination was made to only turn right to not place self at risk of accident. follow-up research: early production ford fiesta are incapable of deactivating traction control. later models do and in the 3rd printing of the owners manual it is recommended to turn off traction control in snow or mud. this action would allow wheels to spin to pavement and generate sufficient traction to maintain or begin vehicle motion. additional information: above research was obtained by discussion with ford technical support/engineering. they also advised that it was not possible to retrofit my vehicle with the capability to deactivate traction control. i have had vehicles in the past of similar weight/powertrain/profile which were equipped with one-touch buttons to disable traction control when in the appropriate situations. these cars were very capable in 1-2 of snow with the traction control disabled. i have advised ford that i intended to provide this report to nhtsa and they likewise said they intend to self-report it as well. recommendation: i believe this to be a safety issue that needs to be addressed by whatever means nhtsa has available.

After having no problems with this car for the first 16000 miles it now jerks and the trans feels as if your driving over rumble strips when accelerating from a stop; bumping and jerking. seems like it cant shift gears and has no acceleration. the car performs worse the hotter the engine gets. this car rides anything but smooth. always feels like its going to stall. *tr

Numerous occasions while accelerating and decelerating the 2011 ford fiesta started to stall, jerk and buck like a bronco. it seemed as though it was not getting power to the transmission or drive train momentarily. this has been an ongoing off and on for about a year. we recently took it to the sunrise ford dealership, fort pierce, fl, and the service rep claims they could not find anything mechanically wrong. this vehicle is used to transport young children and adults. i expect the ford manufacturer to either remedy the issue or buy the vehicle back for what we paid for it!!! it could cause an accident because when it bucks it also slows down in 45-50mph traffic, and the traffic is bumper to bumper at times and we could get rear ended!!! something needs to be done immediately. should i also find an attorney that will represent us should ford motor be liable??? *tr

I bought the car new and have taken it to two separate dealerships to correct this issue and it continues. initially, the transmission light came on and the car began having trouble shifting. after the first repair, the car began shaking uncontrollably. the second repair corrected the shaking, but now (at 15,755 miles) the car will (1) make grinding metallic noises when shifting, (2) fail to shift on any incline (instead it revs to approximately 2500 rpms and sticks there), (3) jolt forward when the brake is applied as if the accelerator was pressed down, and (4) roll backwards on hills as if it is a manual transmission. i understand that (4) can be common among newer automatics that attempt higher fuel economy. however, numerous times the speed at which the car rolls back has incurred a safety risk. this seems to be another indication of an issue with the transmission. *tr

The car is at the dealer for the third time since the beginning of the month. while driving, all of a sudden the vehicle is not in drive anymore, and i have to coast to the side of the road, turn off car, and restart. it is as if the transmission just goes out. this can happen multiple times in one driving session and has happened on highway, on side streets, backing out of my driveway, etc. the engine light comes on repeatedly each time. car also lurches and sounds as if it might stall at random times when accelerating. each time, the dealer test drives after the fix have been from 0 miles to 6 miles, it does not seem like this test drive is long enough to see the issue. this problem is an extreme safety hazard to me and my family and i have lost faith in ford in fixing/dealing with this problem. *tr

Transmission, which has never been smooth when accelerating form stop now stutters and shudders rapidly when accelerating slowly from a stop. does not do it every time but does it frequently. i have had it in to the dealer to check it out and they say they have adjusted it but it continues to exhibit this odd behavior. the car did not do this in the first year of ownership. the dealer says the transmission is quirky. the stuttering and shuddering is not, as far as i am concerned, normal for this transmission and needs to be repaired or the transmission needs to be replaced. the transmission does not function as promised! *tr

Purchased this vehicle for my wife a little over a year ago.at first everything was fine but then at about four months we started having issues with the window not rolling up.the dealer took care of that issue with no problems.then we take it in for the scheduled maintenance (oil change/tire rotation) & our tires had inside cupping in which the dealer does nothing about & still have not.at around 22k miles my wife notices the vehicle starting to jerk when stopped or moving.over the past 8k miles this gets worse & gets to where the vehicle has stalled out numorous times (still or moving).i have made an appointment with the dealer to resolve this issue.not sure the cause yet.

22 days plus additional 6 days: told by ford dealership mechanic that oil pan is leaking oil, and water pump leaking. dye pen florescent light inspection shows front crank seal leak, inspection of engine block damaged threads. replaced engine per ford, removed transmission from engine, disassemble engine from engine mount, mount new short block and install, reseal components, re-time engine, install engine to transmission assembly, rechecked for leaks coolant and oil. ford fiesta broke down next day after i picked up car from ford shop for 22 days, automatic transmission would not go into drive, reverse or neutral, called tow truck for help to get vehicle back to ford mechanic, who still working on car. i am very disappointed with the quality of the 2011 ford fiesta, doesn't get 40mpg, gets 35mpg, does not accelerate when you need to kind of lags, then makes gurgling noise in the water pump. 2011 ford fiesta is not made in the usa and it shows, it's a lemon.

I have a various problems with the transmission. it keeps having a grinding noise like it has a hard time going into gear. i have noticed that the problem is worse when trying to quickly stop as well as accelerating right after. the transmission problem is currently keeping the fiesta in the shop right now but the dealership is saying that this problem is normal and there is no repair is available at this time. i have also had problems with the window not rolling up right. this was fixed but i think that over time it will start to be a problem again. the final problem is the sound system not being properly wired as i plugged my phone to charge and the radio stopped getting reception.

At crossroads ford, prince george, virginia: this 2011 ford fiesta...service engine soon light came on..dealership checked car tsb(power train central module-for transmission) only re-set/re-programmed transmission computer.(april 25,2011. on november 4,2011...i took vehicle back to morganton n.c.ford dealership.. my fiesta would not start and after 4 attempts to start the car it hestitated and started it jerked and sounded like it was badly missing....when driven to dealership the vehicle service engine light came on...it would not shift gears properly and the rpms went to 3000rpms before shifting into any gear. dealership stated vehicle didn't have a problem and again re-programmed and up-dated the transmission computer. i was very upset. in december 22,2011: transmission gears not shifting properly. i took vehicle to local morganton,n.c. ford dealership...they tested the pcm..it passed.tested tcm passed all controls. then tried to tell me...it was only a low-battery problem...but had to re-set the transmission computer a third time.then on february 25,2012...fiesta hatch-back lock would not lock to stay shut. i promptly took vehicle to morganton,n.c. ford dealership and the car is still there to be repaired and a part is on order. to fix this lock. i was given a rental vehicle. i intend to sue ford motor corp via n.carolina lemon law i am a very-dissatisfied customer>..my car is a piece of crap.

I brought the car 6 months ago. in the beginning the car was hesitant after acceleration and lacked power on hills. about a month ago it started to make clucking noises. after the car started, it refused to engage in any gear. i would able to reverse and then finally drived after the car warmed up and numerous restarted. this happened numerous occasions and i attempted to fix the problem 3 times at the dealership. the dealership did not find anything wrong with the car on their diagnostics and they were unable to replicate the problem at the dealership. finally, the dealership said the issue is the battery is low. don't think this would solve the problem through...

I recently purchased a brand new 2011 ford fiesta. in the past 5 months i have taken it to the dealership i purchased it from 5 times because the transmission makes a loud grinding noise and lurches forward when i am on a hill or in stop and go traffic. i have contacted ford directly and got the same response as when i took it to the dealer. they both say it is normal. after contacting ford directly the service manager at my local ford contacted me and went on a test drive with me where he said he both heard and felt what i was talking about. he then took a car right off the lot for a test drive and told me that one did not do any of the things mine is doing. a couple hours later i get a call from him stating ford has told him this is normal for the car to make these noises and lurch forward and that there is nothing else they can do for me. assuring me that the car is under warranty and that if the transmission fails it will be covered. i drive 70 miles a day in rush hour traffic on hills and to me this is a huge safety concern. there are many people that have complained to ford about the same problem so they did the tsb for this issue and it made the problem worse now when i am on a hill the car rolls back and the grinding noise is worse. i took the car back right after they preformed the tsb and told them and they are still saying this is normal.

The transmission seems to fail to go into neutral when brakes are applied. car started with transmission issues initially with the car trying to fight the brakes a few times just before stopping. at times the car significantly overcomes the brakes. on one instance the car failed to stop at red light and managed to creep into the intersection before stopping. the transmission does seem to have safety problems particularly it makes it hard to predict how the car will come to a stop from a high rate of speed. the stopping is jerky and the stopping distance is variable and inconsistent due to the jerky behavior of transmission.

I am writing this complaint as i am concerned about a safety issue related to the 2011 ford fiesta with the dual-clutch 6 speed transmission (power-shfit transmission). ford has made a defective product with the installation of the power-shift transmission it has built in a joint venture with getrag of mexico. there are many complaints on the internet relating to the transmission on these cars. i am concerned that the transmission which can give out at any time could be a danger to the consumer. also, the transmission has been shown to act erratically which could possibly lead to harm or even death to the consumer. example: i was getting ready to back out of my driveway in my 2011 ford fiesta when i barely touched the accelerator pedal and was whisked at breakneck speed down my driveway. it took me a second to grasp what was happening and i slammed on the brakes before i went out onto the street. i actually said to myself out loud whoa, what was that. this happened in my driveway but could have happened out on the road, in a crowded parking lot, any number of other places where the outcome could have been horrific. we don't want another toyota fiasco on our hands. ford is trying to come up with a fix for the transmission problems but they are also trying to keep the problems under wraps. this could be a huge financial blow to ford corporation and i know their priority is to their stock holders. my priority is to the consumer who may be put in harms way by ford's greed. i do not want someone to die because ford wants to keep this all hush hush until they can find a solution for this problem. do not drop the ball on this one. let's try for once to nip something in the bud before someone has to die. as i said above, we don't want another toyota fiasco. thank you.

Test drive was great. at approximately 100 miles the automatic transmission started to miss gear shifts at speeds below 15mph. the transmission would shift up into 2nd and unexpectedly shift back down into 1st, the same with 2nd and 3rd gear shifts. i am also hearing a metal chatter/scrapping sound below the car at all speeds. recently i had to suddenly brake hard and when i went back on the gas the car did not accelerate, it seemed to still be in 4th gear and did not shift down or select the proper gear. at 1000 miles i went to the dealer and they could not duplicate the problem. i am going back to the dealer for a second time and will be contacting ford if the problem is not corrected. i have had the vehicle for only 4 months and currently have 1800 miles on the odometer. this has been a problem since 100 miles new.

Occasional clunking noises when starting and slow to crank. after starting car, it refused to engage in any gear--either reverse or drive. turned car off, re-started and was then able to find a gear. this happened on numerous occasions. would try to reverse or drive and it would rev like it was in neutral. lacked power on hills and avg. mpg dropped. check engine light came on. dealer service department diagnosed it as a defective transmission control module (tcm). ordered part and replaced today. this seems to have completely fixed the problem. runs great now, with much more power and better gas mileage than since the first day i drove it off the dealer lot.

This vehicle, bought new in september, 2010, had loud sounds coming from the engine area. ford has put 2 new transmissions in it. the 3rd repair attempt was diagnosed as a problem that engineering has to come up with a solution. ford, on two of the 3 repair attempts, sent out a field engineer to inspect the vehicle. the first engineer (on the 2nd repair attempt) said to put another new transmission in the vehicle, (the 2nd new transmission to be put in the vehicle). this still did not solve the problem. the problem, according to the service manager (on the 3rd repair attempt, 2 at one dealer, and this 1st attempt at another dealer, - third overall) said it's the clutch. we took other cars out, and with the laptop, we were able to duplicate it on every one of them. the duplication he was speaking of involves the transmission and it's clutch system, just introduced this model year of 2011 by ford. it is the 6 speed automatic transmission, with a dual clutch. the situation is that when you come to a sudden stop, the transmission does not downshift to a lower gear fast enough. when you try to accelerate, after a sudden stop, the vehicle seems stuck in a higher gear. the car momentarily stalls before taking off. this is very dangerous when trying to cross lanes of a highway at busy times. we do not feel safe in it. we were told, in an email, by a ford customer service manager, as i explained to you on the phone the ford engineers are aware and are researching a solution to your vehicle's concern. your vehicle is safe to drive so you may continue to enjoy it while waiting to be contacted by (name wittheld) service manager at the dealer and myself.

2011 ford fiesta. consumer writes in request to initiate safety recall for bucking and jerking problem while driving. *tgw the consumer stated the bucking and jerking when slowing down and coming to a stop. at the last moment the transmission would drop into the lowest gear while the engine was still reducing its rpm. the engine is the pulling against the braking action when the rpm's bump up to 16-18 rpm. the consumer was informed by the dealer, that they were aware of the situation, but they couldn't do anything about it. they also stated it may require reprogramming a control module, which they couldn't do, unless ford initiated it. *jb

This is in regards to a new 2011 ford fiesta with the powershift 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. 3 times now i have experienced the transmission hesitate for an extended period of time before engaging. each time it has happened i have been coasting in traffic at speeds between 15-25 mph or so, waiting for oncoming traffic to pass and then attempting to accelerate across lanes of traffic without getting hit. when doing this, instead of accelerating quickly to avoid getting hit by traffic the car would act like it was revving but not engaging the clutch so i would end up just coasting across lanes of incoming traffic. to avoid having this happen i have learned that i have to quickly and fully stomp on the gas pedal in order for the transmission to realize i'm in need of quick acceleration. using only moderate pressure on the gas pedal yields the scary hesitation that has lead to near imminent collisions. light pressure to the gas pedal tends to make the car barely accelerate at all and sometimes feel like it's about to stall. it seems to me the computer gets confused in this scenario since you are first decelerating, then coasting, then trying to accelerate again all within a short time-frame.

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 ford fiesta. while driving driving approximately 10 mph, the transmission emitted a loud grinding noise with excessive hesitation. on a separate occasion the transmission failed to respond during acceleration. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer four different times for the identical failure. most recent the vehicle was taken to the dealer and an engineer inspected the vehicle and stated the transmission response was a common characteristic. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 500. kmj

My 2011 ford fiesta has issues with the transmission. it shifts hard and irratically shifts at lower speeds. i have taken it back into the dealership 2 times in the first 5 months of owning it and all they do is a software update on the second visit. the first visit, they said they could not find anything wrong with it. i now have another appointment for tomorrow and i have only had this car since february. i have driven it hoping that it would just work itself out since it was new but it has gotten worse over time.

2011 ford fiesta has a blubbering transmission, most notably when accelerating slowly. beyond this, my vehicle has now stopped accelerating and slowed to a complete stop at least 8 times in less than on month. after the very first incident, i was able to turn my car back on, but had the same problem happen again within 5 minutes. the second time, the car did not turn back on. i was towed to the nearest ford dealership where they found no problem, reset the computer, and sent me on my way. the next morning, the vehicle stopped again on the freeway on the way to work. i went to a different ford dealer that did a more thorough inspection. they replaced a fuse, explaining that it might be a power issue. my vehicle was fine for another week, but then stopped 4 times in a 24 hour period. i took my vehicle in to the dealership for the third time this month. they contacted ford engineers who helped the mechanics determine that it was a transmission problem. i am currently waiting on parts to be delivered to the dealership so that my vehicle may be repaired.

Transmission up shifts/down shifts very hard at speeds between 10-30mph. worse when in traffic.

Horrible horrible horrible!!! i have taken my 2011 ford fiesta in at least 6 times to fix the transmission which is completely shot and every time i get it back they state that they all do that, or its perfectly fine. that is complete rubbish! on the freeway my car will shift up and down randomly to the point that it sounds like the engine will explode. the car shifts really really hard and i smell burning clutch every time i drive the car. the most the dealership has done is reflashed the transmission computer. (which would not accept the flash) and to make matters worse the service manager even told me to get lost and take it somewhere else because he was done wasting his time on the car.

Transmission shift erratic ly when slowing down or while driving in heavily congested traffic. sometimes it will make vehicle lunge forward with very light fuel pedal application. transmission is also making an audible clunk when this happens. maybe a pcm re flash could correct the problem? this has been an ongoing issue since day one starting in december 2010.

The incidents i report are caused by the transmission. this new dual clutch system is not selecting appropriately the right gear and often cause to have the car moving ultra slowly at start. not to mention the huge metallic noises when downshifting at slow speed.

Transmission unexpectedly changing gears or selecting incorrect gear. sudden loss of power due to transmission remaining in too high a gear for engine rpms. lapse in gear selection causes erratic and dangerous acceleration. dangerous gear changes cause car to both surge and stall - depending upon engine rpms not corresponding to correct transmission gear.

Unusual clunking noises when starting in the cold. sounds like a dead-battery start, but louder. can start car, but not without this odd noise. yesterday, after starting car, it refused to engage in any gear--either reverse or drive. turned car off, re-started and was then able to find a gear. also, first and second gears are not engaging properly; there is a clunk when slowing down and it is herky-jerky. it is in for service now as i type, but the courtesy van driver told me they have had 2 fiesta's in already with this problem and he wouldn't be suprised if there were a recall. gulp.

2011 ford fiesta, have had for 28 days (purchased on 11/10/10) has been in to shop twice. first time the engine was very slow to turn on--like a dead battery with clicking noises. this time, the car was slow to turn on and would not go into gear, would try to reverse or drive and it would rev like it was in neutral. finally got it to function, but was very worried about driving it. took to dealership today, they recharged the battery and scrapped some paint off of some part and put some kind of oil on it. i was told that battery problems could affect some thing in the transmission's memory and that the car could forget how to go into gear or forget what gear it is in. this worries me as i drive quite a bit for work. i was told at dealership that all vehicles have problems with them (chevy, dodge, etc....) i am not completely satisfied with that. i am keeping all paperwork related to this because i don't think charging the battery and scraping some paint has anything to do with fixing this problem. the car has 1200 miles on it (mainly highway) and i really expected a much better product. i even had to miss a night of work due to sitting in the service department the batter part of the day.
