I was approaching a red light and as i lifted my foot off the brake pedal..............the car accelerated abruptly and i was unable to stop causing me to pass red light, almost striking an oncoming vehicle that was making a left hand turn and driving onto sidewalk. fortunately no one was hurt and an accident was avoided due to my quick response. the vehicle has excelerated abruptly on several other occassions. i was parked in a publix's parking lot when i put my vehicle in reverse the vehicle once again excellerated almost hitting parked vehicle behind me. i was advised the throttle sensor was defective on 2005 & 2006 ford five hundred models and no recall yet! this defect causes vehicle to accelerate abruptly (even when parked) or not excellerate at all! there have been many reports regarding this issue and nothing has been done about it. when a life is lost or someone is severely injured..................is that when some action will be taken? according to reports even if the part gets replaced it does not gaurantee it will not go bad again. repairs have been known to cost between $450.00 to $750.00.

My car started lunging forward and dying when i was either idle or when i stopped and started up again. the throttle light and engine light came on. sometimes when you would turn the ignition off and then restart the throttle light would go off. i have noticed some difference in fuel mileage. if i don't have my foot on the brake and it starts forward sometimes it would lunge, but not all the time. i have taken it to get the computer flashed by a goodyear place in north little rock, ar. it has occurred several times more since they flashed it. that was about three weeks ago. the date now is sept. 20. i wanted to report it, because with the lunging in heavy traffic, i am afraid that i will rear end someone all because of the lunging, which is unexpected. thanks, joyce lee p. o. box 415 rose bud, ar 72137

On jan 8, 2009, i had traveled approximately 1050 miles from oklahoma to ohio. while in ohio, 6 inches of snow had fallen, and the roads were slick with snow and ice. in preparing for my return trip on jan 11, the traction control and abs warning lights came on, and there was a significant change in control and braking in the vehicle. upon driving further, the transmission warning light came on, and the vehicle went into reverse with a huge bang sound and vibration. the vehicle's cvt transmission would not change gears in drive when the transmission light was illuminated. upon turning the vehicle off, and back on, all lights would go off, and come back on within 5 minutes. after the 6th restart, the check engine light came on as well. the transmission light, after a few restarts, did not come back on. however, the abs, traction control and check engine lights stayed on for approximately 650 miles. after that time, all lights went out, but the rpms went from 2000 to 3500 on their own while the vehicle was in cruise control on a flat road. that corrected itself about 100 miles later. upon taking the vehicle to a dealer on my return, they told me that since no lights were on, and the vehicle was now acting normally, they could not duplicate the problem. my factory warranty expires in 14 days, and i am not sure if i'll be able to duplicate the problem to the dealer by that time. the service department blamed the malfunction on the cold weather and the snow, but the awd vehicle with traction control was, to my knowledge, manufactured to deal with snow and cold weather. one does not need awd, traction control or abs during dry, warm days. *tr
