In multiple incidents, on hot summer days, the car has suddenly accelerated (with no foot on the accelerator) when backing out of parking spaces and sometimes when put into drive right after the sudden acceleration in reverse. it has required rapid, firm braking to prevent the car from hitting other vehicles. about a week after the problem started with this car, it started to happen occasionally with my other ford five hundred (a 2005 model with a little less mileage). a separate complaint has been filed on that vehicle. research online has revealed that hundreds of ford five hundred owners have reported this issue and that the throttle body is the likely culprit. *tr

My car has done this for a while however has continued to get worse. it will jerk when it changes gears. it is so bad at times it feels like something is going to fall out. along with the jerk it will completely go out of gear and the accelerator only rams it up. i have been passing cars on the interstate and it go out of gear, i have been on side roads and it go out of gear and all i can do when that happens is role until i can get the car pulled over. eventually the car will jerk and it will go back into gear. i have not had a wreck but have come very close just because people behind me and the car stalling all of a sudden. god has just been with us each time this has happened. i know other people have this same problem with this car. it is very expensive to get fixed and mine is parked as we speak because i cant afford the part nor the labor. the ford dealer says it is the valve body. if i drive it much more it will cost double to get the transmission itself fixed. i am very upset due to the fact that i do really love this car. it seems that everyone who has this vehicle is having the same problem. there is a forum that is on the web that people have shared their experiences and we all are alike. it is a shame that we would have to wait until so many wrecks before a recall on the transmission is made. do we have to wait until someone is killed or hurt really bad to prove that this is a true problem. if this many people have the same transmission troubles can they not see something is wrong. they didn't make this car for very long. i don't know if it is because of that and ford doesn't want to fix something that was only made for 3 years. my request is sincere and i just hope that ford will see that yes it is a great car that they made, however it is very dangerous and waiting for someone to sue before fixing it after everyone telling them about, it is not good. *tr

Car lunges forward in reverse and drive and while at a stop position. mainly when the air conditioner is running. i'm always afraid of hitting the car in front of me while parking or going in reverse. god forbid a person is walking across a crosswalk. i see many complaints here but no one chooses to do anything about it. took it to dealer and they said never heard of the problem and nothing to worry about. well ford will have a lawsuit if something terrible happens that causes injury or a accident to a parked vehicle and or person. i don't understand why this website is here if nothing is being done about it!!! i can see with other complaints its the dealers problem. we aren't all crazy about what's going on with our vehicles seeing how there similar stories here!!! *tr

On a daily basis, at low speeds, going forward or reverse, my car will surge or rev up when turning the steering wheel. often times, it is when i am backing up and have the air conditioning on. it will surge and the brake has to be immediately pressed or the car will surge in the direction that you are traveling. this seems to be a common problem amongst 500 owners very similar to the ford freestyle. this could easily lead to a fatality if the incident occurs at the correct time. *js

I was turning on to a road and when i went to accelerate the engine just revved up like it was in neutral. i have had this car in to bob boyd ford 2 times because the transmission jerks but they have told me there is nothing wrong with the transmission. the first time i had it in there for the jerking they said it was the computer and it needed reset. i have done research on the internet and found other people having the same problems as me and i don't understand why this problem has not gotten a recall issued for these cars. i am going to take it in one more time but if they tell me there is nothing wrong again i will be pursuing legal help with getting a class action started. if the nhtsa is really concerned for peoples safety and well being they should look into the problems people are having with the transmissions in these cars. all i had to do was look up on google 2006 ford 500 recalls and i found all kinds of complaints about the same problems.

Cvt transmission started making a clicking sound while in park, we took it in to our local dealer, they diagnosed it as under a tsb, but there were no parts available to fix it. so while we waited for the parts to be made (as we were told), the transmission went out as my wife and 7 month old child were driving it. so now i have a broken car with no parts available to fix it. repeated calls and emails to ford customer service had offered no solution.

2006 ford 500. the car will suddenly surge at idle...it also surges during gear shifts from park to drive and park to reverse. if you do not have your foot firmly on the brake pedal the car will suddenly surge forward. this can lead to damage of the vehicle or injury to a pedestrian. arfc website has 125 reports of this problem. seems to get worse around the 60-65,000 mile range....conveniently out of warranty. taking car to dealer today for evaluation and repair.

5/29/2009 transmission had to be replaced at 86,000 at a cost to me of $5197.36 total. brand new ford transmission installed warranty given of 3years 100,000miles. 6/21/2012 again transmission needs to be replaced at 150,000 4weeks after warranty expires. i understand ford has had so many problems with thuis cvt that they stopped installing them. ford dealer commented they have had to replace so many and are surprised a recall has not occurred. very distraught that i am going through this again.

This ford five hundred surges or revs up the engine, in forward or reverse, when driving at slow speeds, usually into parking spaces or at red lights. this is a dangerous situation because we have no warning that it is about to happen. i have noticied it is worse if the a/c is on. we have avoided several accidents by slamming on the brake, it will even continue to surge if the brake pedal is held hard to the floor. the vehicle started doing this within the first 150 miles that we owned it. the incidents are unprediciable and dangerous.

I have a 2006 ford five hundred that will lunge forward at odd times especially when the a/c is on. it is a major problem and i believe should have been recalled a long time ago. i bought my ford five hundred in jan 2008 and it has been doing it ever since. the dealer also replaced with used transmission and two weeks later that one was doing it. problem started for me at about 45,000 mi . the dealer i purchased from said there was a bulletin out but no recall so i had to take the used transmission or buy a new one.it will just lunge forward even when braking or stopped. what a pain. i am amazed i haven't rear ended someone. please recall this ford before someone seriously gets hurt*dh

The vehicle will stall and jerk. the vehicle will lunge out even when the brake is pressed. it has done this in parking lots and while driving. this is dangerous as it almost caused an accident by jerking backward immediately when i shifted to reverse when i was in the parking lot- my foot was on the brake and the car still excelled.

My ford five hundred is losing power while driving down the street without warning. no car should be performing this way and no known mechanical issues. the car is driven daily and maintenance has been kept/up to date. i think this is an issue with this ford model and year should be a recall on it.

I'm not sure if this is a power train or other problem, car lurches dangerously at low speeds, and when changing gear into and out of reverse. i hit a post parking in august of 2010 due to this, and it's been getting gradually worse. took it to the dealer who replaced a broken upper motor mount that was connected to the transmission. didn't help, although it seemed like a good guess at the time. it helps to keep foot firmly on brake when changing gear or holding still, while the car tries to lurch forward (or back) with unplanned acceleration. seems to be getting increasingly worse and now i don't feel it's safe to let anyone else drive it, like at valet parking. taking it back to dealer tomorrow, but we let warranty expire recently darn it. we get so many fake spam warrantee-expiring phone calls that i got confused and dropped the ball. throttle control module may be giving false signal to carburetor, not sure what it is.

I purchased a 2006 ford 500 in march 2011. i have had problems with this car from the very beginning. on many occasions, proceeding to back out of parking spots the car accelerates and lunges on its own. it will then jerk and go dead always starts right back, displaying a wrench light. several times waiting in drive through lines or at traffic lights this has happened. i always feel as if it is dangerous to pull it into gear if anyone or anything is within 10 feet of me. then there are the time on the road when i suddenly lose power. i have discussed this problem with the dealership on several occasions and all they tell me is there is nothing they can do because they could not duplicate the problem. this seems to be a very dangerous situation that will eventually cause harm to one or many people.

I own a 2006 ford five hundred and noticed during the summer months it would occassionally surge when putting it in reverse or drive and had to hold my foot on the brake. i took it inot a shop and they showed me my top motor mount was broken and said that was common on this vehicle and could account for the surging. i had it replaced and it seemd ok until i took it in for an oil change at the local ford dealer. they suggested i also have the fuel filter changed and the next day while waiting to park for a concert with my son (hot day w/ac on) it started surgin forward much harder than it had before. while parking i almost hit the wall! after some research i see this is a commonn problem on the 2005-2007 ford vehicles sharing this powertrain. c'mon, ford do the right thing and get this fixed with a recall, do you really want to wait until someone dies like toyota did?

Addendum to odi id number : 10386714 the fuel pump, fuel filter had to be replaced, and the injectors flushed - cost $800 ++. dealer now states codes show pcm needs to be replaced. repair covered under federal emissions warranty (8 years or 80,000 miles) due to my current mileage being 79,008 miles. dealer covered car rental until part arrives and is installed. i have a bucking behavior, after traveling approximately 2 hrs at speeds over 60mph (interstate travel). the car would lurch severely and hesitate, the engine revved very loudly, and the speed reduced to 40 mph, even though i had my foot to the floor on the gas pedal. after driving off the highway, it would do the same thing at city speeds and had little to no acceleration. dealer said the codes showed it was the fuel pump and it would do the bucking and lack of acceleration after the pump heated up. dealer said the car was unsafe to drive. the fuel pump, fuel filter had to be replaced, and the injectors flushed.

Starting since february 2010. my car lunges forward whenever at a dead stop. when shifting to drive and reverse. i have had to have my foot on brake and even almost had an accident while parking and hit the wall. went to dealership and first they said it was my engine mount that was causing it. then went again because the problem still occurred and they said i needed a new battery. then they claimed it was my air filter which is a lie. i called the ford headquarters and all they can do is take down when i called and what it was about. they are no help whats so ever so what is the point of them even existing if they cant help solve the problem. they claim each dealer is independent and that they can advise that i go to a different dealership. i have wasted a good deal of time and money. luckily i was smart and bought that premium extended warranty. i still have spent close to over $400 on repairs. each time i went i had to pay a deductable of $100.00. the battery i went to sams club to get because the dealer wanted $140 but i got mine for $75. they advised to get my throttle body clean and that was $95. they said i need to have my transmission flushed which is another lie. i didn't get that done because i only have 60,000 miles on the vehicle. the transmission fluid was as red as can be and is still good for probably another 40,000 miles. the point is ford knows about the problem and they do not want to fix the problem it apparently is happening to tons of folks out there. they need to just fix it because even though i had my throttle body cleaned the problem still comes back here and there. i just hope that no one gets killed and then ford will finally get this right. i plan on seeing if i can get some legal help and will explore that avenue because i get my oil changes almost ever 3500 miles and i follow all the manufactures service policies. i do my part as a customer and they havent done there part as the company that made the vehicle.

This car is scaring me and anyone else that has to move it in or out of a parking space or when approaching a light or stop sign. it lunges forward when putting it in any gear and when at a stop. this has been happening for over a year. i am so afraid someone is going to get hit or property damage will occur. your foot can be pressed on the brake and it still lunges forwards or backwards. this problem started at 38,000 and is getting increasingly worse.

Vehicle was in reverse to pull out of driveway, vehicle lurched and then would not accelerate. turned off key, restarted, pulled into street, vehicle again lurched, wrench light illuminated on dash, vehicle shut itself off. turned key off and restarted--car did samething again in the middle of the street. last time, rekeyed vehicle worked from that point. car taken to dealer & had a code of u0401 in transmission. was told throttle body was defective. have not replaced part at the point due to cost.

Increasing to and finally ending in the car shutting down, my '06 five hundred began sudden accelerations when being placed in gear. several close calls when in parking lots could have resulted in injury to people. not good and scary. it started with occasional surges, and became very frequent until the light came on revealing the throttle control is the issue. i am currently grounded until it can be fixed. i care about people's well being and hope ford cares too!

I own a 2006 ford 500. cvt transmission. 114,000 miles . 3 weeks ago, i noticed a surging on occasions . felt like it needed tune up. after tuneup the surging continued.my mechanic said to take it to a ford dealer , have it checked out. when i did , was told by the service manager that i needed a new transmission.belt slipping on cones in transmission, cost $5600.. said could not rebuild transmission , because ford did not supply them with the equipment to do this. said they ran test to find problem while driving. was told they also checked transmission fluid, and it was ok.cost was $80. to find problem.that afternoon , i checked transmission fluid , and dipstick was hard to remove , because it had not been removed since car was new. after getting it to free-up, it just slides in and out. after inspecting fluid, noticed color of fluid is color of unused motor oil..almost clear. also had a few bubbles in it.color is supposd to be blueish-green, as it gets older turns dark green, or brown. went back to ford dealship, informed serv.mgr that fluid was never chked also there was no belt , it has a chain in it.cost $900.+for chain.he said drive car until wrench indicator came on .next day, wrench appeared. car lost power ,continued to run ,however could not rev rpms. cut off, then restarted car, this clears codes..still in lingo.also motor support on top of engine is broken, this effects transmission. part is partially rubber and heat from engine causes it to break. cost of this on ebay $200.thru ford, replaced $600+.throttle contol i understand is like $800.+someone need to look at all the problems that are listed about this on the internet.. i looked at trading car , value on trade was $5300. with good transmission..which cost $5600.car is a 2006 model,. are cars only suppose to last 5 years?.the cvt was suppose to be so great to help increase mileage but ford used it a couple of years , then went to 6speed auto.honda has used cvt for years, no problem.whts the deal

My 2006 ford 500 cvt when going from idle either forward of reverse will lunge if my foot is not firmly on the brakes. my wife and son have used the car and both have almost had accidents from this happening in parking lots. this happens almost daily and before the 60,000 mile warranty ran out i did take the car back to autoway ford in st petersburg fl but it still is occuring. i heard about the freestyle issue and know they also have a cvt transmission is anyone looking into this issue with the five hundred

2006 ford five hundred automatic transmissions does not work properly once the car has warmed up. when slowing down the car shifts abruptly and also shakes the car. when accelerating the car shifts down harde than normal then upshifts and or down shifts whiel accerlating at a normal pick up. soemtimes the transmission goes into a false neutral then but if the foot is removed from the gas pedal the car is still revving up. very odd. this issue started to show up around 52, 000 miles and i have contacted a local dealership and sked if ford intend on fixing. the response was there are no plans for repairing the issue. this problem was identified in consumer reports but the write only stated how the transmission shifts abruptly. i do not consider myself an elder but i do know many elderly people drive these cars and how it could potetnially frighten an elderly driver. basically this should be corrected by ford before someone gets hurt.

On jan 8, 2009, i had traveled approximately 1050 miles from oklahoma to ohio. while in ohio, 6 inches of snow had fallen, and the roads were slick with snow and ice. in preparing for my return trip on jan 11, the traction control and abs warning lights came on, and there was a significant change in control and braking in the vehicle. upon driving further, the transmission warning light came on, and the vehicle went into reverse with a huge bang sound and vibration. the vehicle's cvt transmission would not change gears in drive when the transmission light was illuminated. upon turning the vehicle off, and back on, all lights would go off, and come back on within 5 minutes. after the 6th restart, the check engine light came on as well. the transmission light, after a few restarts, did not come back on. however, the abs, traction control and check engine lights stayed on for approximately 650 miles. after that time, all lights went out, but the rpms went from 2000 to 3500 on their own while the vehicle was in cruise control on a flat road. that corrected itself about 100 miles later. upon taking the vehicle to a dealer on my return, they told me that since no lights were on, and the vehicle was now acting normally, they could not duplicate the problem. my factory warranty expires in 14 days, and i am not sure if i'll be able to duplicate the problem to the dealer by that time. the service department blamed the malfunction on the cold weather and the snow, but the awd vehicle with traction control was, to my knowledge, manufactured to deal with snow and cold weather. one does not need awd, traction control or abs during dry, warm days. *tr

I have a 2006 ford 500 and while sitting at a restaurant i put my car into reverse to back out of the parking space when it surged backward and i had no control. so i braked and put in forward. then it surged forward and i had to hard brake it to stop the car. it had been making a noise like there was something wrong with the power steering. i called the dealership and a tow truck and had it taken in. the dealership ran a diagnosis and said it was the throttle bottle. since i was about 50 miles from hone i had it towed back to my city where i am having the throttle body replaced.

We have a 2006 ford 500 which had the cvt transmission replaced after 4 weeks. the transmission continues to have a significant delay in engaging in reverse. my wife and daughter did not wait until the transmission engaged and have on occasion lurched backwards almost running over her little brother. with the front of the car on a decline the car will roll forward when in reverse until it engages and the user depresses the throttle. olathe ford and a factory rep. inspected the vehicle and supposedly the vehicle is within specs. i don't think so, the car also whines when turning corners. i think the cvt transmission is out of specs. ford doesn't use it anymore, nor do i want to. i have had many fords, this will be my last if this isn't resolved to my satisfaction. the car also has the instrument cluster which intermittently goes out, windshield leaks water and air. answer soon, i am going to bbb, nhtsa and kansas consumer protection. this car is a lemon, i want a working one. *tr
