When put into drive or reverse the whole car lurches forward and could cause an accident if you are not carefully. this seems to be a very common problem. going to take it to the dealership and see what they say is wrong. but this should definatley be looked into by ford before someone gets hurt or killed.

At very low speeds (example in a parking lot) trying to park the car it will surge really hard even when foot is on brake.. makes parking very dangerous.. i almost hit a person and almost wrecked into another car another time.. when shifting from park to reverse with foot on brake the rpms go waay up and it is as if someone is flooring the gas pedal.

The vehicle surges/lunges forward/backward when going from park to reverse/drive without any gas being applied. when brake is applied the vehicle still doesn't stop and i have no control of the car when it happens. the car mainly does it when the air condition is on, but will do it other times as well. the car has shut off twice while driving with the wrench light appearing on the instrument cluster. when i tried to restart the car it shut off again. when i turned the air conditioning off the car stopped shutting off. this is very dangerous and should be recalled by ford, before someone gets seriously hurt. i'm having to pay out $800 for a part that has been reported by thousands of other ford owners. ford needs to recall this part. *tr

Car accelerates when air conditioning is on (more so when turning wheel) whether in drive or reverse. already had accident in reverse. noted several complains about this from owners on google. almost had another accident in jack in the box drive thru where car accelerated unexpectedly. missed car in front of me by inches. had foot on brake, car was in drive but not moving when this happen. acceleration over powered brake pressure. very, very scary. please help. otherwise love car. please contact my cousin. see below. *tr

When after starting car and gear shift put into either drive or reverse the engine will surge causing car to lunge. if not aware of issue and have foot on brake would hit what ever in the way of car. the same thing happens when pulling into or out of parking space. i had my car fixed at a ford dealer and then contacted ford motor about the problem and they don't seem to take the issue seriously. according to my ford dealer the problem is in the throttle body. i went out on the internet and found other ford 500 owners reporting the same thing. the big problem is that it doesn't happen all of the time. the main reason for this compliant is that ford doesn't want to acknowledge they have a problem. *tr

With the a/c on and the car traveling at low speed, the car surges(lurches) forward or in reverse depending on the gear shift selector. it happens, for example, when pulling in to a parking stall. as i'm approaching the final position where i'm nearly ready to put the gear shift in park, the car will lurch forward nearly hitting the car parked in front of me. it also happens when pulling into my garage or at a stop light. occurrences are obviously when it's hot outside which is why i've got the a/c on. it doesn't happen all the time with the a/c on, just some of the time.

My 2007 ford five hundred sel fwd with the 3.0 v-6 (81,421 miles) and 6 speed automatic transmission will intermittently surge forward or backwards without gas pedal application when idling in gear. it is as if i floored in in a jackrabbit start. it does not do this every time that the car goes to idle in drive or reverse (for example, if i am in traffic at a stoplight) but it will do this at least once every time i drive. i have had to keep my right foot firmly on the brake pedal while backing or in a parking lot to keep the car from hitting pedestrians, other cars, sign poles in parking lots and my carport's wall. it will suddenly rev up when in either drive or reverse without my foot on the gas pedal and try to move in an uncontrolled manner. it may only do it once or it may do it three or four times in just as many seconds. i was unaware of this problem and nearly hit another car the first time this happened. there was no warning. no check engine light activated. my car is equipped with a tachometer, i have seen it jump as high as 2000 rpm from a 750 rpm idle and then fall right back to 750. the fact that i have not hit anyone yet is proof that this is not a pedal misapplication error, but my concern is that an inexperienced driver or someone who is unaware of this defect will be surprised by it and kill or injure themselves or someone else. this is the first time i have ever owned a vehicle with such a problem i took my car to my local ford dealer and was told that the problem is a defective throttle body which is being replaced tomorrow. i researched this problem on the internet and have found reports that the replacement part is no better than the original. the fact that a defective part can cause a vehicle to act in such a dangerous manner is symptomatic of a factory defect and should be acted upon by the nhtsa as soon as possible.

Starting around march 2011, my 2007 ford 500 would lurch when i moved it from park to reverse or from park to drive. it seemed to get worse with the air conditioner on. i took it in for service and they cleaned the throttle body. this did not really fix the problem. since then, the problem has gotten much worse. it now lurches when i am sitting still. if the brake is not all the way to the floor, it will lurch several inches. i have almost had several wrecks because of this. i am scared to drive the car. it now has 95,000 miles on it but is not paid off yet. i was quoted $800 to fix the throttle body. i feel like with the extent of the complaints on this part, ford should recall this product on all of these vehicles.

In novemeber of 2010 my 2007 ford 500 began to leap foward or backward after shifting from park to reverse or drive. this action has continued for the following months. it seems to happening more and more often. in may of 2011 it lunged when i was backing out of my drive way causing damage to both my vehicle and my husbands who was parked near me. i took it to the dealership today after it lunged in a parking lot last week almost hitting a child walking by. i assumed it was the transmition. however, i am told it's a bad electronic thottle body and is not covered any the powertrain warrenty. i am told it will go out sometime, there isn't any way of knowing when but it will go into fail safe mode. after searching online i see ford had a recall on this part that included models older then mine. the problem isn't fixed as many ford owners are experiancing the same problem.

My 2007 ford fivehundred has recently start lunging forward. the dealership tells me it is the throttle body and it needs to be totally replaced. recently when i was at an intersection, i took my foot off the brake and the car lunged forward into traffic. i was able to stop the vehicle in time to prevent an accident. a few days ago someone walked in front of the vehicle while in a parking lot and the car happened to lurch forward. i was able to apply the brake quickly enough to prevent him from being run over. i've been told this part is not covered under my extended warranty.

Purchased a new ford five hundred in 2007. have kept up with all regular maintenance. after putting about 20,000 miles on the vehicle, i started having a problem with sudden acceleration. i would come to a stop at an intersection, mailbox, or drive-thru and let my foot off the brakes and the car would jump -- accelerate on its own. my foot would not even be on the gas pedal. i took it to the ford dealership and was told that the transmission had to be reprogrammed. i specifically asked could it be a problem with fuel system and was told no. i had the work completed but the problem persists to this day. i have had several near misses with rear end collisions. finally as i was entering a parking space, the car accelerated on its own and hit a post in front of the parking space.

2007 ford five hundred sel accelerating and lunging while pulling into a parking spot, garage, or drive-thru lane. occurs in drive and in reverse. sudden acceleration lunges the car several feet and has caused several near-miss incidents. can't park too close to another car in parking lot or garage or pull up behind another car very close at a red light for fear of car lunging into the car in front. very scary not being able to control this. afraid to coast into parking spot without foot on brake for fear of hitting someone or some thing.

2007 ford five hundreds frequently surge forward and backward when first put into gear. there are hundreds, if not thousands of owners of these cars with the same safety issue - potential running over/into people/other cars & structures.

Yet another idle surge issue. the nhsta site is loaded with them, and the internet has even more. vehicle surges dramatically when removed from park and placed in reverse or drive, especially with a/c on. also surges forward on initial acceleration from a stop. i own automotive test equipment, and can see the engine computer commanding the throttle in excess of 16% without throttle being applied. the situation has been occurring over a year. it's obvious that it's a throttle-by-wire issue involving the computerized throttle control system. vehicle borders on unsafe to drive.

With a/c on i start car. put car in forward or reverse. engine surges then settles down, this is quite dangerous. brought it in for warranty help. was informed that it may be throttle body and throttle body is not covered in drivetrain warranty. ford, are you kidding me? vehicle has 41,170 miles, the warranty for this item apparently ran out at 36,000 miles. this is a safety issue more than anything. this is a huge safety issue. putting car in gear and having the engine surge is a recipe for disaster. *tr

In september 2010 (at 42k miles), my 2007 ford five hundred sel started to suddenly lurch forward or backward when shifted from park, especially if the front end was sitting higher. when this happened, the wrench and check engine icons would light up and the car lost 95% of its power. turning off the engine for 30 seconds or so would cause the wrench icon to turn off, but the check engine icon would stay lit. the car would drive normally and the check engine light would turn off overnight. after this happened several times, a ford dealer said that itwas the tcm module which wasn't covered by my extended warranty. i paid $1000 to have the tcm replaced by a certified ford mechanic. in april 2011 the car began to repeat the same symptoms. i've had the car to 3 ford dealers, but they all say they can't do anything unless the car is actually malfunctioning at the time. i was passing another vehicle on a 2 lane highway recently when the last incident occured. fortunately, i was able to get back into my lane before meeting an oncoming car. i say fortunately because the car loses all power until the wrench icon goes out! this is a tremendous safety hazard and i don't understand why ford is stonewalling. didn't they learn from toyota's brake issues?

2007 ford 500 transmission problem. driving on interstate and the transmission starts to buck out of the blue. cannot pass people on normal roads or barely make it up hills, acceleration is very slow. failure occurs every time the car is driven, getting worse every day. it used to occur at higher speeds, now it is happening anywhere above 30mph. have not done anything to correct problem, been reading up on it; and everyone has the problem and there is no cheap fix yet.

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 ford five hundred. the contact parked the vehicle for about an hour and when they returned, they were able to start the vehicle, but it would not go into drive or reverse. the contact stated the gear shift knob would move, but the gears would not change. the engine would rev up, but the transmission would not change gears. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and when the vehicle was turned on the dealer was able to get the gears to change, but could not determine why the gears did not respond previously. the failure mileage was 35,000 and the current mileage was 40,200.rl

Car: 2007 ford 500 limited. moving shift lever from park to reverse or to drive, after about 1 second the car lurches forward or backward. i keep the brake locked down when changing gears for several seconds until im sure it wont jump but i have to remember to do it.this is dangerous. when this first started happening, i almost ran over someone. i hope you can identify the problem and let me know or have ford put out a safety recall and a fix for the problem. thanks

Car: 2007 ford 500 limited. moving shift lever from park to reverse or to drive, after about 1 second the car lurches forward or backward. i keep the brake locked down when changing gears for several seconds until i'm sure it won't jump.this is dangerous. when this first started happening, i almost ran over someone in a parking lot as i wanted to back out of a parking spot. i took this in for service and mentioned it to the service manager. as he drove the car around to the back, he said he noticed it too and asked the transmission man to look it over. since i was having the transmission oil changed, he thought it might be related to old fluid. (car had about 70k miles at the time). its about 5k miles since the service and the caris as bad or worse than it has ever been. i believe the problem is related to the computer getting a wrong signal from one of the throttle sensors and causing the engine to surge. dealer said he had not seen the problem before and didn't know what to do. the problem is still occurring but since only my wife and i drive the car, we are compensating by holding the brake for several seconds after moving the shift lever. i hope you can identify the problem and let me know or have ford put out a safety recall and a fix for the problem. thanks

My wife has a 2007 ford 500. since 40k miles, she's had continous problems with the vehicle surging at inappropriate times. i also had a 2007 model 500 as a company car. i began experiencing the same problems in/around the same mileage. several other people with our company were also driving 500's and experienced the same problems. ford sent a representative to green ford in greensboro, nc and diagnosed the problem as the electronic throttle body. the vehicles were repaired out of warranty. the problem has gotten progressively worse. as a result and after the vehicle almost surged into our daughter, i took my wife's car to the ford dealership today. the service rep acknowledged some problems with the throttle body, but advised it was not a problem in all vehicles. i told him about the same problems with my 500 and the problems with the other company cars. i even offered to provide him the name and contact information for the other dealership, but was told they were in a different district and had a different reprsentative. i asked if they communicated with each other to which i received an intelligeible response. i work as an insurance investigator and will ensure this problem is not overlooked. i've almost wrecked the car 3 times in our carport and parking lots as a result of sudden surge. it appears toyota is not the only car company with sudden surges and/or problems with throttle problems. we've been fortunate that nobody has been injured, but i don't believe someone should be hurt or worse before a company does the right thing and takes a proactive response to a known problem. thank you.

Engine idle speed is excessive at intermittent intervals while transmission is in reverse, causes vehicle to inadvertently accelerate at inappropriate speeds. local repair shop scanned vehicles repair codes, determined it to be a transmission failure. authorized dealership, said nothing was wrong with the vehicle after they scanned it. vehicle, went into a creep mode immediately following one of the instances, but the computer reset itself after several minutes.*tr

It started out as a loud thump that rocked the car when shifting into gear... that has continued but now it also when accelerating hesitates then you hear the thump and then it will accelerate. i have had this at my dealership 3 times now and they refuse to fix it. they continually say the cannot recreate the problem. i also have a airleak in the car that is so loud you cannot hear the radio when driving on a interstate. they are blaming that on the antenna on the outside of the car. i have less then 20,000 miles on this car and a extended warranty. i have no idea what to do to make them fix it. i worry about the safety of this, i have a newborn and am afraid if it is the transmission, which it sounds like, that it could seize up and possibly cause a accident. *tr
