Driving down the highway our children rolled down the back power windows and they would not go back up - swerved into other lane trying to contin the situation becasue of the noise from the traffic has to exit the highway immediatley to note that the windows would no longer go up - had to manually push them up to keep them up - although while driving they will go back down - which cause a jump in reflexes. to temporarily fix the problem we have applied duct tape. also when it rains there is now water accumulating on the passenger floor board and spreads to the nack seat floor board - has door seals checked and will replace although this is a real health concern becasue of rust and mold.

My 17 year old daughters' 2001 ford focus had her stranded after work august 13 when she put her key in the ignition, but it wouldn't turn. we called aaa, and they couldn't 'fix' it, so we had it towed to the nearest ford dealer only to be told the repair will cost between $450.00 and 1000.00!!! i'm a single mom and my daughters' still in high school for gosh sake. i thought this vehicle would be a safe and dependable one. i spent a lot of my savings on this car and insurance for her. i don't know what to do now, i've got a vehicle we can't start.

I have had my ford focus wagon for three years now. i had to repair a alot of things on this car! tranny, alternator, fuel pump, timing belt, and the only door that opens from the outside is the passenger right front, which my kids have to climb through to get to the back because both back doors broke not even four months from the day i bought it. also the driver door only opens from the inside because of the companies defected car door handles. my friend has the same car, and its the same way. not mentioning how everytime i stop it dies out and i have to try and keep starting it. it seems there is always something wrong with it.

2001 ford focus zx3. the key will go in the ignition but it wont turn, and i googled it and this is a very commen occurance with the focus. in this situation i was lucky cause the car was at my house and not somewhere else with my fiance or my 5 year old daughter and 5 month old son that could have been very unsafe.

I parked my car on the side of the street and turned it off. when i came back to it about 20 minutes later i put the key in the ignition but it would not turn. the key would not turn forward or backward at all. i tried moving the steering wheel back and forth to try and get the key to move but then my steering wheel completely locked up as well. i was then unable to move anything on my car and it was stuck on the side of the road in a metered parking space. i had to call a tow truck which cost $69. i had it taken to the nearest ford dealership and they replaced the ignition lock which cost me $530.73. this is the second time my ignition has been locked up. *tr

Turned off my 2001 ford focus (with only 36,320 miles on it) as usual and when i returned to car and attempted to start it up, the key would not turn in the ignition. had to have it towed to the dealership where they had to drilled out the tab, and build and install new key cylinder for a total of $427.84. they did not offer the old part to me and i didn't think to ask for it. thankfully, it happened during the day while i was at my dentist's, and not at night after work. have since found out that a class action law suit has been filed in california. there should be a recall of these cars. *tr

2001 ford focus. key won't turn in ignition, won't budge. i tried moving the steering wheel, tried using the other key, tried pressing the key in harder- nothing. ignition has given me problems before: it would take two or three tries before it would turn, but it's never refused to move like this. also, there were times when it didn't want to give the key back; i would have to jiggle and turn it, but it always came out after a few seconds of struggling. *tr

My daughter was driving on the freeway when her car just died, while driving. it started up again immediately, but it has happened several times in the last month. i went online to view recalls, and it stated that 2001 ford focus had a recall on this issue. i also found 2 other items that are happening to this vehicle that were also recalls. i made an appointment with the dealer to have these recalls fixed, but when they pulled up the vin number, they said that there were no recalls for this particular car. the other recall i found was the electrical system, and battery failure. i have already burned up one battery because of this issue. the recall states that the cabes overheat and may melt. this vehicle did this as well. the other recall is where the latch on the back door begins to not latch properly, causing the door to come open while driving. the back door will not latch properly on this vehicle either and at times we have to open and close it several times in order to get it to latch. these 3 recalls are all things that have happened on 2001 ford focus vehicles, which our vehicle is, but because our vin # doesn't match the recalls, they refuse to fix them. these are true safety issues. my daughter could be killed because of these issues. how can i have my vehicle added to these recalls? i am extremely upset and concerned that these items will not be addresses when ford knows that they are a problem on other 2001 focus vehicles. i will sue should something happen to my daughter due to this issue and fords unwillingness to correct the problems. *tr

My son & i got done eating i left the restaurant parking lot & thought i would stop by the next place when my rear passenger side door opened up out into traffic. lucky no one was riding in the back. and no accident happen. after several attempts of playing with the lock i got it to close & haven't used that door since. i made several attempts in contacting ford directly and all i got was a survey form which had nothing to do with my problem. back in 2005 when they recalled my car for failure on door locks i had taken it to valley view ford and had it serviced. now three years later the problem exists and nobody wants to do anything about it. maybe it takes someone to die and sue them. very unhappy with ford, i now will never buy another ford again. *tr

I will start with the fact the car is on it's fourth battery. it has had the wiring harness replaced along with every sensor in the car some twice. there was a steering column recall done on it. the two back windows tracks have been broke a total of six times. the door handles brake three so far. the stereo is broke for the second time. i have had to do the brakes twice so far and all this and the car only has 63,498.8 miles . *tr

I own a 2001 ford focus. problems started one month after purchase. window wiper motor blew but was under warrenty. then after warrenty expired everything started to go wrong. trunk hood would not latch closed, then door latches started to stick , then had to climb into passenger seat to open drivers side door because it would not unlock and door handle plays games and opens door when it wants to. fuel pump had a recall, thank god because i kept stalling on highway. then while driving home from work the back passenger side door flew open on highway, almost caused accident. then engine blew with only 123,000 miles on it. i have all oil change records to prove engine oil was changed every 3,000 miles give or take 20. engine had to be replaced and that left me without a car for a week. paid $1900 for an engine from a totaled focus. called ford motor company and they told me to hold my engine receipt so that when and if they get any complaints maybe in 2 years or so i'll get a refund. total money that i have put in car is over $4,000.00 and it's still not paid off yet. now i need a new front axle because that is going bad. why can't ford help me when i have questions and why is it when i go to a dealer and they can't help and then i call company itself they go and call dealer i went to and they go by what dealer mechanic says and not customer. i will never buy another ford again. and now the dealer i bought it from went of of business.*ak

The ignition cylinder on my 2001 ford focus locked up last night and will not allow me to start the car. the steering wheel is locked, and the key will not turn. the dealership says i need to replace the lock cylinder. after doing some research on the internet, i can see that this is a very common problem happening to many people, and sometimes it happens more than once. if this is the case, ford needs to offer a recall. paying $300+, plus towing is not something i was planning on paying. *ak

I am the owner of a 2001 ford focus and have always had problems with it. on 10/28/2004 i stopped for gas with my two small children. after re-fueling, we all got back into the car to leave and the key wouldn't turn. my whole stering column had locked up-the steering wheel wouldn't budge, the shifter was locked as well as the brake pedel. although many strangers tried to help me start my car, me adn my children were stuck at the gas pump for over an hour. after having my car towed the driver told me that this was his seond focus that day with the same problem and his company tows several a month.

Every single door on my 2001 focus has given me problems. there is only one door on my car that is currently operating correctly, which probably won't last long. my two front doors do not open from the outside. my rear passenger door does not close. i have also had problems with the rear drivers side door not closing. on several occasions i have not been able to open the drivers door from the inside. ford has made a terrible product and i imagine many people are out of a lot of money due to ford's carelessness. i will never buy another ford as long as i am driving and i will encourage others to do the same. i consider the ford company to be careless business people. their first concerns should be safety and quality. if my son were to ever get hurt because of their lack of concern, it would become an extreme issue. i would like ford to either fix the problem with my car or buy it back because i simply do not want it. *jb

I bought my focus brand new in 2001. after about a year i noticed the two back doors were difficult to open and close. there was minimal use of the back doors until about one year ago. i began to use them frequently noticing the interior light remaining on while driving and the doors slightly open. on a couple occasions, a door would swing open while driving. i was able to open them when they were locked b/c they never were shut completely. i went to the dealership to have them look at them and they said if was $300 a door to have the latches replaced. i bungeed the doors shut and refuse to fork over the money to replace the latches. i have put so much money into this car since the warranty has been up and feel that ford should recall this item so i can drive safely in their focus. *nm

So many problems don't know where to start, ok lets talk about the doors. we bought the car new in 2001 and almost immediately started experiencing difficulties. the trunk wouldn't latch and the door light would be on or it would latch but wouldn't come open we complained to the dealer they would adjustit. however, the problem would be back in a day or two, and it was getting worse. the doors started to jam,and fly open while moving. took it to the dealer and they told us to call ford company complaint line and they said it was a mileage problem, and they explicitly said they would not help. we have called the dealer and the ford motor co. many times and they are no longer helping, even though the mechanic at the dealer said the doors had internal damage. please understand this has been an on-going problem and the last time our 9 yr.old would have fallen out of the car had he not been wearing his seatbelt. oh,yes then there is the seatbelts, brake lines, door knobs, brake rotors, fuel pump, wheel bearings the list goes on we have a lemon please contact us to help. *jb
