| Defect Summary | Ride control, llc (ride control) is recalling certain readymount assemblies, p/n 746641mt and 746646mt, with corresponding aftermarket customer part numbers: gabriel g56944 and gabriel g56945, and privately branded partsmaster with part numbers g68944 and g68945. the readymount assemblies were sold as aftermarket service equipment for use on certain 2000 through 2005 ford focus vehicles. these assemblies were assembled with a nut without the necessary washer. the absence of the washer can allow the readymount assembly to pull apart the top mount. | |||||||||||||||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2002 ford focus. he wanted to purchase a kayak holder from thule. thule advised him that they would not warranty his vehicle because the roof rack for his year make and model did not pass there crash tests. there had been no failure to date. the current mileage was 50,000. | |||

| There is a line that went straight into the engine's intake that has been leaking fluid since 2,000 miles and was inspected by deler who told to me that it was nothing. but the engine case should not have a large leak of fluid that soon. finally now, they have done something on this and replaced the hose, as it was seen once more and knows of all the times reported. i hope this is just not a easy fix or this now hasn't caused any damange to the inside of the engine itself, as the engine has been in the shop for riding rough. they told me last time that the part of the transmission that was fixed would fix this. i think it is due to the oil leak on the top of the engine case since it was new. a new car should never have a oil leak on a engine case. | |||

| I own a 2002 ford focus that i purchased last june. i had went into the walmart , and when i came out i saw a car which i thought was mine but it didn't seem like i had parked that close to the car-i proceeded to the car unlocked the trunk with my key-put my groceries in the trunk and opened the drivers side door-which then i noticed shoes in the floorboard on the passengers side and realized my keys had just opened the door and the trunk to someone else's ford focus-so i grabbed a buggy real quick got my stuff out of the car-locked the doors and went and found my car. my husband called the dealer and they just laughed and said that you have a one in a million chance something like this would happen -they could change the locks but didin't think it was necessary-would probably never happen again-i emailed the ford company. they called my husband talked to them-they said they would make a report and to call the dealer back and see what they wanted to do about it. after my husband talked to both of these party's it was decided they weren't going to do anything. we are going to have to get a burgular alarm-so i won't have to worry about someone getting in my car , stealing items if shopping,etc,etc,etc. mostly wanted to make you aware and see if you have had any other instances of this happening. you pay a lot for a car-for everyone who owns one like it to be able to get in your car. scares me too=that car thieves may catch on to this | |||

| The design of the cup holders in the front seat, with the big opening on the sides, is a major flaw. while making a turn, whether sharp or normal, a drink can easily tip out of the cup holder, and fall onto the ground of the car. when i made a right turn, my normal sized water bottle flew out of the cup holder, due to the opening, and started rolling around on the ground. had i not picked up the bottle, or noticed it flew out, it could have easily become lodged between the brake and / or gad pedals and caused a major accident. *tr | |||

| On november 9, 2002 while doing errands i noticed smoke coming from the engine area of 2002 ford focus (5 months old). it was a wet and rainy day and the windows were fogging-up. i had to roll the windows down to defrost the light mist on the windows, as the defrost button would not work. the smoke became so thick i decided to pulled over and call for ford road service. by the time i was giving the rep. my location people were running from thier homes to move thier cars. i told the rep. the car is on fire. i hung-up and called the fire department. the fire department responded in less than a minute. i ran back to my new car and watched as it burned. the fire departement said the engine fire was caused by an electrical short. i was also told that i pulled over just in time. my insurance company has not been helpful. ford assured me that they would take care of everything. i am waiting for ford motor to take car of everything. i told them in a fax i sent last week that i want that "blue oval" service they constantly talk about - maybe someday. thanks, denise keyes | |||

| The original firestone tires (205/50r16) wear out prematurely. the vehicle becomes unsteady on bumpy, wet or snow covered roads, causing the driver to lose control. the rear tires vibrate and chatter when driving on wind roads and on open roads at highway speeds, also the rear tires were showing irregular and premature wear. the manufacturer representatives stated that improper factory alignment specification were the cause of the problems. auto door locks malfunctions. the rear hatch door was misaligned and would not close properly, the rear window washer would not spray properly and the rear window washer nozzle failed, there was an odor coming from heating or a/c system, the power steering line was leaking. the transmission was difficult to shift into 2nd gear and reverse when it was cold, the child restraint brackets was putting dents in the rear seat *yh | |||

| I have a 2002 ford focus zx5 that is well maintained. within the first 2-3 years, i have had to replace the front brakes and rotors. in 2004 i had to replace the battery. in 2005 i had to replace the right rear window motor. presently the left rear window motor isn't working; the window will not go up. the rear front window is not working properly and the air bag light comes on each time the car is started and stays on. the cd player had to be replaced in 2005. in 2006 all four tires had to be replaced because of factory dry rot. i regularly service and maintain the car, and have approximately 28,000 miles on it. i take excellent care of my vehicle and feel this car is not made with quality parts and that it is not safe. although i drive at normal speeds, it does not get the mileage stated on the sticker. *jb | |||

| I recently purchased a used 2002 ford focus. i have been having trouble with the brakes, the radio, and water leaking in through the front passenger side. the brakes squeak everytime i apply them. the radio only works for one minute and then it fades out, all you can hear is static. the most important of these problems is the leak. it has rained really hard three times in the past month, and all those times i have found the carpet in the front passenger side soaking wet. i have taken it back to the dealership from which i bought it, but they say that it is not covered under the 90 day warranty. i have reaserched on the web and have found that there are many complaints like mine. the ford company should be made responsible since they are the manufacturers of the car. *nm | |||

| Ford focus: back door will not always latch. my son almost fell out of the car, thankfully he was strapped into his car seat. i shut the door and was driving away when the door flew open. focus is white,only 1 1/2 old and has rust spots all over the car. the trunk of the car has the most rust.the radio dial has melted feels like you are playing with bubble gum. have also had problems keeping the car on the road in rain and snow. i take the turnpike to work and feel that i am going to slide into another car if i go faster then 25 miles an hour in the rain or snow.*ak | |||
